Shawn Meyer Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Hello Everyone, just wanted to welcome myself. My name is Shawn as you can see in my screen name. Anyway on to my first post. I know that the Crypt is closed as of this year, but I was wondering if I can still go through the exit of the Crypt like past years to get a picture of Diamondback's first hill? I was able to do this back in 2010 when I last went, but now that the crypt is closed, I was curious If I can still enter in that area to get a picture. Quote
PKIVortex Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 They have that area blocked off, So I would think that you wouldn't be allowed to go back there. Quote
KI FANATIC 37 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Welcome to KIC! I dont think it would hurt. Id say you could do so but you may be asked to not do that if someone saw you.... Quote
CoasterGeek101 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I did! Nobody cares.... a few maintenance people saw me and didn't say anything. But of course they still might say something. Quote
PKIVortex Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Blocked off for a reason, I wouldn't push it! If they wanted people walking back there they wouldn't have blocked it off. Quote
Shawn Meyer Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 Thanks guys. I had a picture of Diamondback from the first hill a couple of years ago, but deleted it because I thought it was blurry. I wanted to redeem myself when I come down in a couple of weeks to take a new picture, but I guess I'll have to wait until they fill that building with something new. Quote
Dieseltech20 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 I have seen plenty of people back there taking pics and such without incident. Most likely it is blocked off for those that do not know/realize the ride is gone. I can imagine people standing outside the entrance saying "How do we get in"? Much like those trying to get on SOB. Quote
BB1 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 but I guess I'll have to wait until they fill that building with something new. I would do that also to be on the safe side, hopefully the Haunt will be great addition! Quote
Balloondoggle Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Not that I'm endorsing you going into off-limits areas, but it's often easier to beg forgiveness than to ask permission. But you didn't get that from me. Quote
TOPGUN1993 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Considering they have removed the overhead netting of crypts exit, it's safe to assume they do not want the general public wandering on that path. Quote
Mr. Christopher Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 If you're going to wander back there against better judgement, at least bring a hard hat. Quote
beastfan11 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Or you could just ask an employee. I asked an employee if I could get my picture taken next to The Maestro prop from Phantom Theatre on The Bandstand a couple Haunts ago, and he lifted up the rope, let me go under, and even took the picture for me. Since your not causing any trouble a polite request is all you need. And if you get a no, then oh well. 1 Quote
Guest KingsIslandPR Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Guests are not supposed to go into the entrance area of the former Crypt ride, so please keep out. 5 Quote
The Interpreter Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 And it can safely be assumed he means the exit area as well. Quote
OldieButGoodie Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 The answer's always 'no' if you don't ask, but I wouldn't hesitate with a camera in-hand. Seems the worst that might happen is they'll ask you to leave that area, Quote

Thanks for clearing that up for us KIPR (I didn't see the previous post, sorry!) - none of us want to be in trouble! Glad we got that before anybody (hopefully) went down that path. Quote
CoasterGeek101 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Alright, I will stay out, but hey Don, if maintenance people aren't enforcing this rule than people will still go back there. Quote
Snowman Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Alright, I will stay out, but hey Don, if maintenance people aren't enforcing this rule than people will still go back there. So are you saying "Don" (who I can't imagine is in charge of maintenance or security) needs to post someone everywhere that's restricted or off limits? Quote
Gordon Bombay Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Maybe he was addressing the head of one of the five families? 1 Quote
Jr for Birdy Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Maintenance are not hired to enforce, you could be some photographer the park hired for all they know. Quote
LongliveKingsCobra Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Wow. Ignorant. I'm pretty sure a guy in a fanny pack with a Nikon (generalization, so sue me) isn't going to be someone hired from the park. Maintenance may not be there to "enforce" but they have or can get to walk-e-talkies (is that how spell it?) and can get the KI Police to come escort you out of the "restricted area". Quote
PKIVortex Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 I'm not trying to be mean, but it should be common sense if it's blocked off then you shouldn't go back there in the first place DUH! 1 Quote
The Interpreter Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 Being in a restricted area can get you far worse than just escorted out of it. Should the park choose, you can be ejected for the day, season or for life and/or be charged with trespassing. You could also get hurt, as has been pointed out. Don't risk it. Quote
kblanken Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 If you wait until Halloween Haunt, the area might be open. Kings Island said something about using the area for whatever it is they have planned. Quote
KI-ORIG-EMP Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 If an official photographer was there with the permission of Kings Island, they will have an escort to guide them. Quote
Jr for Birdy Posted June 12, 2012 Posted June 12, 2012 NO KIDDING! Maintenance are busy with there own projects, there not standing there debating on if some guy can take pictures over there or not. This topic is ignorant, use your brains and follow directions. 1 Quote
Shawn Meyer Posted June 12, 2012 Author Posted June 12, 2012 Sorry buddy for creating a bad topic. I just wanted to ask if that area was open for photography like it used to be. Quote
coasterfanatic83 Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Welcome to the shark tank that is KIC! Quote
TheCrypt Posted June 14, 2012 Posted June 14, 2012 Jr for Birdy is being ignorant. ...This topic is ignorant... It was a simple question, no need to flame. Quote
