If Ouimet was CEO during the Paramount acquisition...

Featured Replies

Maybe this topic would be more appropriate in a few years. Still, we've experienced a good two years of new management, and I feel like both this year's and next year's additions are reasonably indicative of what to expect from the new CEO.

How do you all think Kings Island would have changed during the transition from Paramount to Cedar Fair (2006-2009) if Matt Ouimet were in his current position then? Would the merger have ever occurred? How do you think Son of Beast's accident have been handled? Would Geauga Lake have closed, and would KI have received Firehawk? Would Kings Island have received Diamondback, and, if so, would it have been placed where it is? And what would have happened with Hanna Barbera/Nickelodeon in the transition to Planet Snoopy, if the transition would have ever occurred in the first place? And so on.

Just curious to hear what you all think.

Reason why we gave our guests Diamondback in 2009 is because it's the ride we wanted to add to our thrill ride lineup. We could have gone a lot of different directions. We wanted to add a B&M coas

  • The experiences will only be about 180 yards apart. They are both in Action Zone after all! (Yes, I understand what you meant. I had been waiting for a chance to use that image.

Many veteran roller coaster riders -- those that have ridden literally hundreds of roller coasters -- have told us they experience an abundance of airtime on Diamondback.

I'd love to think through all of those questions, but I can't get my mind past the first one. Would FUN still have acquired Paramount? My gut feeling is no. Which scares me with the thought that my home park would be New Six Flags Ohio.

Well where to begin....

New for 2012! Platapus Run, the longest water coaster in the midwest! Boomerang Bay would have remained.

SOB, no one really did exactly like you, so you're going, now. SOB extracted far earlier than our latter work.

New for 2013! Classic Eagles and Antiques returning.

Why state recent additions? Because those would fit more well in how he would have handled the post kinzel era better than the latter by our basic trends. Planet Snoopy and D-Back would probably remained the same in that time stream.

Basically, BB1 would love that alternate reality.

Good question. I think that SOB would not have lasted long after the 2006 accident. Maybe DB would have taken its place, because it would have fit in Action Zone during that time period with the color scheme. Geauga Lake would have stayed open, and maybe if we were still to get Banshee it would be in Firehawk's place. It would be neat to have Swan Lake still.

I still think that we would have Peanuts, but Hanna Barbera might have stayed. Ouimet seems like a guy who likes tradition. Also, I think the Crypt would have been replaced earlier by a new family dark ride.

I'd like to see your attempt at justifying why Diamondback and Intimidator were his biggest mistakes.

And, no, "Intamin is better" does not count as a reason. Nor does "B&M sucks".

I believe Mr. Kinzel himself has stated that he considers TTD to be his biggest mistake.

I have never said b&m sucks do a search.

They are bland flagship rides at their respective parks. Kinzel got it right with i305 to draw in more business from bgw.

Silly kids, this thread is about a theoretical situation involving Ouimet being CEO seven years ago. The B&M vs. Intamin thread is over here.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I actually agree with YoungStud. I don't think I305 would have been installed. However, outside of your personal opinion of Diamondback, do you really think that ride was a poor addition to the park? Diamondback stopped being thrilling to me somewhere in the middle of 2009, but I'd still argue that it was a great business decision. It's almost as iconic for the general public as The Beast, as it delivers a ride experience unlike anything else in the park. Gatekeeper has a similar effect at Cedar Point, and that was a Ouimet era addition. Do you think Diamondback would still have been added?

Reason we recieved db and kd got i305 is because kd has more competition around them. They needed a flagship ride. Their only draw was volcano.

Sure. That makes sense. I'm just wondering what you think of Diamondback from a business perspective. Specifically, do you think Diamondback was a good move for the park, considering what rides it had (or didn't have) at the time?

If you need a ride that would spike attendance, kinzel knew he had to go big and awsome so intamin was contracted.

Yes ki would still have recieved db cause it was one of many rides ki needed. It probably would have been installed in the parking lot.

Edit: actually a b&m invert would have came first than the hyper.

Well... Truthfully, if Kinzel and the other powers wanted 300+, did he really have any other option besides Intamin? Leviathan may have been in the planning stages at that point, but if the "B&M did CF a favor" thing is true, then B&M wasn't really an option.

Replace every coaster addition today with b&m and that's what it would have been if Matt Ouimet was in charge during the paramount takeover. I also believe more parks would stand out from one another.

Now why would every single addition be built by B&M, I feel it would be pretty stupid to hire a roller coaster design firm do design a Dinosaur walking path. And WindSeeker? Didn't know B&M designed flats. I don't think every addition would be B&M, lets not be haste here.

notice how i said " every coaster " not flat rides and Dino's.

No I305. Mr. Kinzels biggest mistakes was Diamondback & intimidator.

This is single handedly the dumbest and most biased post I've ever read on this site.

Let it go.

Riiiiight.....

To me Kinzel's leave was kind of bitter-sweet. It's bitter that we don't get coasters as often anymore yet sweet that Cedar Point no longer has his daddy in charge to give him whatever he wants.

b&m sucks

Why can't people just have a preference or state their opinion about one or the other ( B&M or Intamin ) and not get grilled about it.

Ouimet's been CEO for about two years, and counting Banshee we've already gotten as many new coaster installations as Kinzel gave us in over 5 years.

No, I don't count Firehawk as a "new" addition considering that it was relocated. The addition had nearly no cost in comparison to building a brand new coaster of its size.

Relocating GL's X-Flight (as Firehawk) involved a substantial capital outlay. Supposedly, not much money was saved verses what building it new would have cost.

Firehawk's station is rather impressive, and terrain modification (to match the existing coaster) was not cheap.

I edited it to be a bit more accurate. This is what happens when you are sustaining consciousness with copious amounts of caffeine.
