I've heard a lot of rumors Excalibur will be removed for a Soak City expansion

I sure hope not! I hadn't heard this rumor, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for news on that one, because if it does end up being true, I'm gonna have to make a pilgrimage.

Excalibur is one of my favorite inversionless Arrows.

I hope not either :/ it's truly a one of a kind Arrow and I'd hate to see it removed. But it has low ridership and stands in the way of a massive waterpark expansion...the park will do what will make them more money and attract more customers.

^ I had the same feeling on Mille. It's not a bad ride by any means, but it is so overrated that I was disappointed after riding it. I have never ridden any other giga, but they all sound better than Mille from what I've heard. Honestly, Maverick is the best ride at CP because of how intense it is. I know I305 is incredibly intense, from what I've heard. Do Levi and especially Fury compare in intensity?

Also, I love airtime, but if we were to get a giga, I'd prefer it has ejector airtime, as DB is all about floater. Plus, the ejector airtime on the Voyage blew me away, so I'd like if the ejector airtime would compare to that out of control, intense experience.

Well, technically any new roller coaster could be classified as "a new experience" as no one has ridden it yet.

I meant how the park described the new WWC experience and how the Railroad would be different, but yes any ride could be considered "a new experience".

Anyone experience anything new on WWC? I experienced the new entrance, but being soaked from head to toe is not an experience I want at the park, although I do enjoy seeing others have fun getting drenched. I was hoping for new soaking features. It would be cool to have more coin operated soaking features.... I could get into that... ;)

I read somewhere (and its pure rumor, I forget where I read it, but it was definitely nothing remotely official) that the long term plan is to develop the land and extended boundaries behind Excalibur, but need approval of plans from the Army Corp of Engineering.  The plan is to turn part of that land into an additional parking lot and new entrance for Soak City, not sure if that is tied into the rumors of a Soak City expansion or not.  There is a good amount of potential in that park, I was surprised how little attention it seems to get in comparison to Cedar Point over the last couple of decades.  A good floorless looping coaster and a good invert and their coaster lineup will be fairly complete (I heard, don't know if this is true) that they can't go much over the height of Wild Thing due to air space restrictions.

I'd love to have copies of Renegade, Mad Mouse & Cosmic Coaster (kiddie coaster that would compliant The Great Pumpkin Coaster in terms of experience for little kids while taking up very little room) as well as their 'Tiques they recent installed.  I'd personally take Gemini over Excalibur, but to each their own.

Take a trip down to Louisville for a couple of coasters with even more insane ejector air than the Voyage.

I've never been there, but to me, Valleyfair's coaster collection seems like an amalgam of the smaller Cedar Fair parks. You've got Wild Thing, Steel Venom and High Roller in common with Dorney (Steel Force, Possessed and Thunderhawk),  and Mad Mouse and Corkscrew in common with Michigan's Adventure (same names). And then there's Excalibur, whose track structure looks similar to Gemini at Cedar Point and there is a Cosmic Coaster at Worlds of Fun. There's also Renegade and Prowler (Worlds of Fun), but Renegade came first. Not saying it's a good or bad thing (I'd like to ride Steel Venom someday), just something I've noticed just by looking at RCDB.

-MDMC, making comparisons; feel free to carry on with the decoding :D

That sounds great in theory, and I agree for the most part, but the odds of me ever making it back to Valleyfair are fairly low.  The number of people who attend both KI & Valleyfair more than once in their lifetime is equally low, so in theory if there was an exact copy, it would have little affect on my perspective of either park.  But with that said, by copy I mainly meant similar in style, namely a GCI woodie that I would expect KI's version to be a longer than Renegade, but the double turn drop was a unique element I'd love to see copied if KI ever got a GCI, a wild mouse would be a fun addition if it could be made to accommodate the 44" crowd and give those inbetween kids and their parents another coaster to enjoy before embarking on The Beast, Racers, etc.. and finally the kiddie coast is just that, but oppossed to the multiple hills that the Pumpkin Coaster provides, the one at VF goes for a sort of double circle effect that gives the rider some nice lateral Gs.  Honestly, I doubt KI would get anything like that small coaster for Planet Snoopy, the Pumpkin Coaster is better and the flats are excellent for small kids, however I expect at some point KI will see a more modern woodie as well as a wild mouse type ride, which would fill 2 of my hopes for the park.

I'd rather not have copies of anything and have unique rides at Kings Island.

I'd usually agree but I'd trade any KI coaster that is Dback, Beast or Banshee for an Arrow Mouse.

Please tell me you meant "is not"...

So not to interrupt the rousing discussion of Cedar Point and its coasters vs others but how about those permits? We have people who drive out to Batavia to take pictures of track that may or may not be ours, but we can't get one person near Mason to swing by the building department and see what they can find? Everything from site work to the new pumps at WWC to a potential 2017 ride would require public permits. An out of towner is asking nicely, please.

Permits are sometimes filed after the fact. Or kept from public view if information from them can financially impact the business. Sometimes you can get the permit, with pertinent information redacted from it. But then again, doesn't hurt to try.

So assuming CF is adding a new coaster each year (as they seem to have been doing for quite a while and will be doing for next year,) we can at least eliminate parks that are not (likely) getting a coaster and go from there. We can cross off Cedar Point and Carowinds right away, they got the last two. Carowinds is getting a bunch of new flats, and who knows for Cedar Point so far (my guess would be a Soak City expansion due to the removal of most of Challenge Park.) If King's Dominion is getting a dark ride, that would probably mean no coaster. Worlds of Fun is also getting some new flats. So we are left with

The rumor I have heard about Cedar Point is that Wildwater Kingdom will be closing at the end of the season, the slides will be moved to the Point as part of an expansion of Soak City.

http://www.imaginemason.org/PDFs/Public-Records-Policy_2007-2009.pdf

"Public records are available for inspection and copying during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m."

That counts me out.

I live in/near Batavia, so it's easier. Next time I am in/near Mason (at the park) I'll swing by.

Always sad to see a park end. But this would be a huge expansion to cp. And I can really see it happening.

This does make a lot of sense. CP's waterpark is pretty lacking in my opinion.. especially since there's an upcharge if you don't have a platinum pass. And Wildwater Kingdom is small and expensive for what it is, and fairly close to CP. From a business standpoint combining them would be their best option.

Walk into the building and there is a receptionist on your left IIRC.  You are asking for the building department, but what you likely need is the address for the project at hand; not sure how KI handles that (unless you have the project number, which is doubtful); in order for the person behind the desk to link to the project that you are looking for.

Beyond that, I have no clue, I've only submitted/paid for projects that I've been working won, I've never gone in and randomly asked for a permit for some project I'm not involved in.  Keep in mind, there are multiple permits for multiple stages of work.  You are probably looking for site plans this early, which may fall under the jurisdiction of the zoning department, rather than the building department.  Your best bet is to ask for the public records available for Kings Island (bring their main address) and see how much help the person behind the desk can give you.  Some people will walk you thru the whole process, some won't give you the time of day unless you are a very specific request.  I have not dealt w/ the building department in Mason very often, so I can't really tell you about the people working the desk there.

Also, be aware that there may be fees to copy said documents.  Usually they are free to inspect in the office, but if you want copies, they are usually made at the office.  You might also check online..
