Delirium - Why wasn't this ride Paramount Movie Themed?

Random question and thought....

1999 Brings the new "Action Zone" land to Kings Island and is home to the new "Drop Zone Stunt Tower" and "Face/Off".... Amazon Falls is renamed "Congo" Falls, XS Raceway becomes "Days of Thunder" and TOPGUN is hanging out in the back corner.

With a entire new "movie" based land why did that not continue with the 2003 installation of Delirium 5 years later? Nearly all of the Paramount additions had a movie tie in. (Minus Son of Beast)

What Paramount movie of that time period would of made sense to theme a giant HUSS frisbee after?

Do you like Delirium? Did it use to have a longer cycle when it opened?

That is all...

Maybe the mergers going to my head, but I feel like I remember there being rumors about it being themed to this Paramount “classic.”

I could be making this up. But the timing would kind of make sense.

That beautiful film, however, is not a Paramount one. "Volcano the Blast Coaster" at Kings Dominion was just themed to a... volcano, apparently? This always threw me off until I watched Volcano one time and saw the 20th Century Fox logo.

@TOPGUN1993 - As for your question, this is just hearsay I've been told over time, but my understanding was that as Paramount and Viacom kept getting shaken up over the years (even before the CBS dealings), the focus and strategy of the parks kept shifting. I.E. Someone new would come in on high and say: "we gotta make it a movie theme park" and then that person would get shuffled out just for someone else would come along and say "nah, let's just focus on making an amusement park" (still an incredibly profitable venture at the time, even without movie promotion). I don't think "Paramount Parks" was ever really strategically linked with the Paramount movie studio to any kind of large degree. I.E. when the studio side was cooking up films and marketing plans, most of them probably weren't aware that Paramount even had "theme parks" and those that ran the parks were focused on (and only paid to) run a seasonal/regional park, not necessarily elevate the overall "brand" if that makes sense? That's why you'd see "Tomb Raider: The Ride" cobbled together one minute and then just "Delirium" the next.

@silver2005 - agree with you about Star Trek. Those characters/that brand were all over the park when Paramount first took over, but that focus fell away rather quickly. Flight of Fear would've been better as a "Borg" ride to promote Star Trek: First Contact (came out the same year), but something had to be done to promote the Outer Limits reboot on the United Paramount Network (UPN) I guess?

I thought I read somewhere that initial developments would've seen either Flight of Fear or another attraction in Area 72 themed to Star Trek and/or specifically the Borg. It was possibly a new attraction for the Firehawk/Orion plot; although, I may be thinking of a similar Starfleet Academy attraction developed for Kings Dominion's King Kobra/I-305/Pantherian plot of land. Volcano: The Blast Coaster was likely only themed to a volcano because it used the old Lost Mountain structure. I believe it was one of the last Taft/KECO additions to the park as well.

Carowinds did get a relocated Stealth for 2004 and renamed it as the Borg Assimilator (complete with the giant Borg Sphere in the water). Kings Dominion's Star Trek attraction was cancelled at some point.

Does anyone know if Paramount Parks were always headquartered in Charlotte, or was there a time when they were headquartered closer to Kings Island? Interestingly enough it seems their old HQ building was one parking lot over from where the Cedar Fair Charlotte offices would then be located, and where it seems the official new Six Flags Home Office HQ is. It's kind of fun to see that the corporate offices have seemingly been in that same office park for 25 years now. KECO once had a trademark holder address at P.O. Box 300 Kings Island, Ohio. There were also a ton of initial trademarks addressed to Taft Broadcasting's former homes on Highland Ave. (Local 12) and Young St. (WLWT 5) around the Mt. Auburn in Cincinnati.

They were always headquartered in Charlotte. KECO moved their headquarters from Kings Island to Charlotte in 1986. When they were bought by Paramount, that office building remained the Paramount Parks corporate headquarters.

Folks, if you haven’t already, you really should read @KIghostguy’s fantastic book: https://rivershorepress.com/kings-island-a-ride-through-time

That's a Fox film. The other volcano film that year, Dante's Peak, was Universal.

Could you be thinking of Deep Impact, which was both a Paramount/Dreamworks collaboration and a disaster movie, or The Core, which came out around the time Delirium was built?

The Core is what I had heard rumors of in the past, but it wasn't released until after the ride opened if I recall correctly.

That’s what it was! That was driving me nuts. Thanks to all that chimed in.

Paramount released Jackass: The Movie in 2002…

I feel like this was a rumor/concept at one point. I vaguely remember something coaster related with shopping cart ride vehicles. Could’ve worked as an alternate theme to Italian Job/Backlot/Queen City Stunt Coaster.

The Core was released in March 2003 while Delirium debuted in April.

EDIT: Mr. 3000 is odd because it's a different studio. Might be why that one never materialized.
