Phantom Theater: Opening Nightmare Construction Progress

Something that I never really thought about is who tears down the ride does Sally come in and do it or does Kings Island themselves do it?

Sally is the manufacturer responsible for both Boo Blasters and Phantom Theater Opening Nightmare, so it would be them making modifications to the existing Boo Blasters ride, rather than it being entirely torn out.

Although if this was a situation of a ride being torn out, it would've been handled by O'Rourke Wrecking Company, which were contracted for previous demolition works like Vortex and Firehawk.

I see thanks for the info, it’s something that I never really thought about, I do wonder if they’ll save any parts of boo blasters and reintegrate them into phantom theater. I hope boocifer stays aroundĀ

I know right! To be honest they could just be ripping out boo Blaster at the moment, no clue if there's any more progress on phantom or notĀ

They’re working on clearing out the props from the building and work is being completed in Florida I assume for Phantom, don’t worry. I think there’s just going to be a week where guests return on a random Friday during haunt and the outside entrance of Boo Blasters is just completely gone. It also is an indoor ride that’s technically a retheme vs brand new ride, so it could be a thing were everything’s taken out of boo blasters over a week (which I’m 80% sure has happened by now), Phantom props are brought in a Winterfest or off season week, and the ride can still be ready for like April.

Ā

Personal speculation, but I think on October 31 (or maybe October 13 because spooky number and it’s not on a weekend day) we’ll see some major teasers hopefully showing off the designs for the characters we haven’t seen yet properly because I need proper references to draw them!Ā

I was working in tech services in 2002 when phantom theater closed, we (tech services, ride mechanics and electricians) cleared out most of phantom ourselves. We took out all the animatronics, props, scenes, sound equipment etc. we initially moved all the animatronics to the ā€œschoolhouseā€ which was located at the employee entrance on western row rd. Picture attached of the old school house and they stayed in that building until they started using them as props for haunt. Ā after we cleared everything is when sally came in to install SDATHM, we worked along side of them installing all the controls, audio equipment etc but they did most of the installation.Ā

That’s pretty cool. Do you have any photos from the inside from the time?

I wonder if they have already started putting in the new props for the new ride, I do have a feeling that most if not all the Boo Blaster props have been removed. I do wonder what kind of easter eggs are in store for us for the new ride, if they are going to make references to the original Phantom Theater or the other rides that once occupied the building.Ā

I’ve been thinking about some of the old props that we still see from time to time. Garbonzo’s canon, the sarcophagus, and the organ were used in the stage show. The furnace is used in Slsughterhouse. I wonder if any will return?

I suspect the current phase of the renovation is dedicated to changing the sets over. Then it will be the animatronics, then it will be the props. If the castle facade is changed, I think that will happen during the off-season.

I'd love to see some (legally obtained) photos from inside the building during this phase!

This was way before camera phones existed. The only photos that I know that exist from after the closure is when we did a walk through with DAFE, there’s quite a few pics at dafe.org

Interior demolition of Boo Blasters has begun, in strangely public fashion (Note these were taken in public guest view areas, if this breaks rules let me know)

Ā

I know they probably wouldn’t tell us, but I’m curious if Sally Dark Rides take all the props from Boo Blasters and reuses them to create another ghost blasters attraction somewhere, considering I think they’re still making boo blasters as of like 2022 I think??

The first picture is actually the inside of a Park Services warehouse that is contained within the larger Boo Blasters building. From my understanding, it always looks like this and is NOT a part of the new Phantom Theater.

Guessing that probably means the castle is coming down. Fingers crossed we get something similar to the old Phantom Theater entrance.

I would love that so much, also correct me if I'm wrong but wasnt there creepy sound effects outside the original PT building too?

Outside of BBoBH today. Nothing crazy, but still cool to see. Crazy this is even happening.Ā

Do we know what this pile of rubble was before it was rapidly disintegrated by a Boo Blaster? There's nothing in the photo that looks damaged in that way, and I didn't see anything missing above it when I saw that pile on Thursday night.Ā

I'm glad that the castle may be coming down. Hopefully the new Phantom Theater can balance the more realistic style of the original with a little bit of the animated style of newer dark rides.

I have it on good authority that the facade will be an overlay of the existing exterior.

Yes, that would be a cool faƧade for sure and also to answer your other question. Yes, they used to play music and noise outside the queue.

Plus it if it follow the original concept art for it's facade.Screenshot 2025-10-11 205805.png

I think they could do a hybrid of the two. The original concept art would be a masterpiece if they could finally realize it (while also adding some good queue space). It won't happen with an overlay of the current facade, but it's nice to think about anyways. The castle definitely has some potential, though, with only a small amount of physical modifications.

They should definitely try to recapture some of the essence of this concept by incorporating the posters and signage back in. I'm fully prepared to walk up next year to see the dirty same old castle still visibly standing there with a new sign replacing the Boo Blasters sign, but I think the Sally Dark Rides crew will work their magic on more than just the ride itself.

In my opinion the purple castle worked very well with the Scooby-Doo theming but when the years went by and it was changed over to Boo Blasters, it became sort of an eyesore and it has gotten dirty damaged and even one of the fangs from the mouth is damaged. Could it be modified for the Phantom Theater Opening Nightmare? Yes I believe so but I would love to see a new opening, but nonetheless I'm excited to see the Phantom Theater return regardless of what the entrance looks like.:D
