If I'm not mistaken, I believe that it was manufactured by HUSS, which also made Skylab, which was always broken down. You would think that they would have learned from previous expirience with them.

Rick

Just because Skylab had problems doesnt mean Kings Island should blow off Huss completely. First off, you dont know what your talking about. Skylabs down time couldve been any number of things that werent related to Huss. It couldve been down all the time because of how KI maintenance kept it up, the weather, the condition it was kept in. No one knows. Thats only one Huss ride. Shake Rattle and Roll is a Huss ride and is always running. Tomb Raider is a Huss ride. To say KI should not trust HUSS because of one ride that didnt work quite well for reasons probably no one on this board knows is qite ignorant.

I don't entirely agree with that... let's look at the PKI Huss rides off of the top of my head:

Delirium: Goes without saying

Skylab: More than its fair share of downtime and then removed.

Tomb Raider: Frequent downtime

SR&R: Consistantly running

The Bat: Huss-Arrow - Prototype, but was removed within 4 years nonetheless..

Now you can debate back and forth however you want, but if you look at their track record at PKI, it's not promising. It's a shame they make such awesome rides with such weak track records.

Honestly, I wouldn't list The Bat in this case. It was an entirely different company then and as we all know Bat was a complete prototype. I'll let that one slide. Now, for Skylab. It may have had downtime, but at the same time why is the same model running at Canada's Wonderland still to this day? Tomb Raider definitely sees a lot of downtime. Not sure how accurate this is, but I hear a lot of the ride's problems stem from the program that PKI chooses to run it on (i.e the long periods of holding the gondola upside down). I wonder if some of the problems could be resolved? Delirium always seemed to run very well, at least when I'm at the Park. Aside from first season glitches, does it really have THAT much downtime? Obviously the problem this season was fluke and completely unexpected to both PKI and HUSS, so it would seem.

Just some thoughts....

Yeah I have to agree. You can't always judge a book by it's cover. It could be many different things, while certain rides have problems not just Huss. Heck look at cars, new cars get re-called everyday. Things break, get over it.

It's good to know Delirium is Signal 1. It will have wondeful capacity once it opens up because everyone is dying to ride it. I will have to come back to the park and ride.

Actually if you look at the number of riders per hour Delirum has a poor capcity the thing is that is holds 50 and really not too many people get in line for it.

Well, it took them 2 months to get the thing running this year....

As for Delirium, it's nice to see these rides recovering. We just had Cliffhanger recover from some really harsh malfunctions.

Hope testing continues well!

How would it mess up after the first swing when it first opened?

The malfunction I am talking about is when Delirium will start it's cycle and then stop after it's first initial swing. The arm then sways back and forth slowly until it comes to a stop, or it is fixed by maitenance. smile.gif

It is PKI's maintance! Maxair never goes down and it is brand new!

That's why it's never down, it's new. As far as I'm aware Delirium has operated very consistently since it was built besides this break down which was unexpected and due to wear on the gear I'm guessing. Maxair wouldn't have this problem because it's new and hasn't had the wear and tear of several seasons that Delirium has had. Although, now that they know of this problem hopefully neither Maxair nor Delirium has long down time again.

Maybe that is why MaXair is so good because they have a new computer system. and that could be why Delirium has been down for so long they could be putting in a new computer system after the repairs have been done.

Dude, Delirium already has a kick ass computer/ PLC. It uses both a Control Logix, as well as a SLC-500 series PLC as a watchdog to the CLX. As well as the DeviceNet and ControlNet system that uses CIP (common industrial protocal).

Furthermore thats probably why Delirium and TR:TR goes down so much, due to the PLC shutting the ride down, because it detects something WRONG.

Again Delirium alread has a *****in computer system, no need to change.
