  6. At some parks, the trees (and flowers, plants, waterfalls, pools, and Gardens) are indeed a major attraction factor! I would very much approve...

  11. The conversation about Son of Beast has been moved to this topic. In light of many threads about the ride and one giant thread that has devolved from discussion to rumors to jokes about the rumors, it's time to start anew. Hopefully this will create a more concise topic that won't require reading through 150+ pages to get caught up on. Facts: - The ride has not operated since June 16, 2009. - The park's current General Manager has stated the reason for not operating the ride is his dissatisfaction with the ride's performance. “Eight days after I took over, the accident occurred,” said Scheid. “We have struggled with it ever since. We have smoothed out the ride. Most people will say they are comfortable with the ride, but I am not comfortable with the ride.” - From 2000 - 2006 the ride was the world's only wooden looping roller coaster and operated with trains manufactured by Premier Rides. - On July 9, 2006 an accident occurred. According to an investigation by the State of Ohio Department of Agriculture: a cracked vertical timber [in the ride's "Rose Bowl" section] created a "bump." When a train navigated this section, some riders received non life-threatening injuries and the ride was closed for the remainder of the season. - Following the Department of Agricultures investigation [which faulted some aspects of the design of the ride] in which recommendations to improve the rides performance were made, the loop was removed and "new" trains were installed. - On july 4, 2007, Son of Beast re-opened nearly a year after its accident. The ride featured two modified trains manufactured by Gerstauler that were originally found on the Hurricane at Myrtle Beach Pavillion. To accommodate the lighter trains, the loop was removed. Son of Beast was still billed as the world's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster. - On June 16, 2009 - the ride was voluntarily closed down after a woman came forward stating she had suffered an injury on the ride in May of that year. The ride has not re-opened since for the reasons stated above: dissatisfaction with the ride's performance. Note: the incident in June of 2009 has never been officially stated to have been the reason for the ride's closure. As of this topic's posting on July 5, 2012: No decision has been made regarding the future of Son of Beast. References: Cincinnati Enquirer, "What's Next for Son of Beast?" - April 24, 2011. 12. I always thought that the peanut characters should span out across the entire park so that kids can meet their favorite characters without having to go to kiddie land. I know they are on international street occasionally but they should let the characters move freely on some days, not every day.

  13. My friend and his day came by my house around 7:30 this morning so we would get out to the park really early. We arrived around 8:45 and got really good parking. We made it up to the gates around 8:54 and a few minutes later they played the National Anthem and opened the park for ERT. We headed straight to Invertigo where we got 3 rides in and then we headed to Diamondback where we got 2 rides in. After getting off Diamondback it was 9:45 so we decided we wanted to ride Firehawk next. We went over and waited at the barricade. A lady from the cast of British Invasion opened the park by singing God Bless America, however the speaker cut out half way through it. Then the security guard took down the chain and we headed to Firehawk. We waited about 5 minutes before we were sent to the farthest loading dock. Firehawk was great, although the seats were uncomfortable, safety's more important. We then went over to Flight of Fear. However they were still testing the ride. So we waited about 10 minutes, battled off some bees, before calling it quits on this ride. After that me and my friend rode the Scrambler and then the Red Racer. We continued on to ride Adventure Express, which still beat the crap out of me. But it's still a fun ride. When we had gotten off the ride we saw Drop Tower's car drop. So we decided to go there next checking Delirium first. Delirium was closed (shocker) and so was Drop Tower. I'm not sure what was wrong with it, but the car stayed at the bottom while the catch car stayed at the top. I wasn't disappointed, so we headed to Flight Deck next. It had a short wait and we rode near the back. Still a really fun ride and it packs a punch. After that we went over to Vortex (where someone had puked on the ride). So that delayed the wait a little bit. But we were on in about 20 minutes. After that we rode The Beast and ate lunch, before heading over to Soak City. We rode the train over and were unaware that they had delayed operations due to a lightning strike. I wish the park would have made an announcement because a lot of people didn't know what was going on. The delay only lasted 15 minutes and they continued oeprations. We only rode Paradise Plunge and Pineapple Pipeline. But we were in both wave pools and the Splash River for most of the time. We stayed for a couple more hours before returning to the dry side. After that we rode Diamondback, Beast, Vortex, WindSeeker and The Racer (Racer 3 more times). All this in about two hours. Overall we had a great day! I was bummed out on our previous few trips because the park was so packed. But today the longest we waited was around 20 minutes for Beast or around 25 for Vortex. I'm glad I hadn't used my unlimited 20 oz. wristband because it came in handy. All three of us had one and we each saved around 20 dollars worth of money on drinks. With these wristbands we were able to stay hydrated all day without putting a hole in our pockets. Also, the ride ops were assigning seats on most of the rides. This made the lines run so much faster, so thank you KI! Another thing I noticed is that Vortex seems a lot more rougher in the front. We all three had a great day and we are going back Saturday (with my friend's mom and dad this time) to Soak City for the day. Today was a great day to catch up on the rides we weren't able to ride on the crowded days. Overall Ride Count: 21 Invertigo: 3 D-back: 3 Firehawk: 1 Scrambler: 1 Racer: 4 Shake, Rattle, and Roll: 2 Flight Deck: 1 Adventure Express: 1 Beast: 2 Vortex: 2 WindSeeker: 1 Also, the park seems to be having problems with bees. Workers in the Tower Refreshments wouldn't fill up any of the cups or give us a 20 oz. because of bees near the filter of the fountains. We went over to the funnel cakes place, so it wasn't too big of a deal. But there were so many bees and wasps flying around.

  14. Six Flags now focuses on the local markets, with coasters and attractions from the advertised park. Local is paramount, as Al Weber might say.

  15. I think I might be in the minority, but I actually like a little bit of wild speculation about the park…I think something big is going to be announced for 2013. Just a feeling I have…I have absolutely no evidence to back it up.

  17. That's the last thing we need is to have to yell fire in that building. Then it'd be an actual Crypt... People seem to forget the large swath of land White Water Canyon's queue line resides in. While severing the lengthy forested queue from the ride in favor of a clone of Jungle Cruise's indoor switchback sounds like grounds for the KI Facebook community to bear arms at the very mention of deforestation (of which they instantly had no problem with Swan Lake's demise after it was announced a Beemer were to dance upon its grave), I believe there to be more than enough space for a few flat rides, beautiful scenery, and a chance for that hidden lake in-betwixt WWC and the railroad to be seen in its full glory.

  18. Devoted fans of tearing it down would have to sign a document where they waive a right and pay a fee in order to tear it down? How could tearing down the ride create a death risk? If a demolition is controlled and done properly, not even a scratch should occur. Plus, a major decision would not be made at the park using a petition or vote.

  25. She didnt claim she had a busted blood vessel, she did have a busted blood vessel. As previously stated, just because this incident happened, did not mean its the reason it closed. See the very first post. Well since the park settled out of court, I would assume (just my own opinion) that she did have medical records. Because if she didnt, the case would have been thrown out of court.... My personal view of SOB? I really enjoyed it when it had the loop. The cars were a bit uncomfortable (I didnt like the trapping of my feet), the lift hill was very loud, and I was confused about pictures being taken before the first lift (I would have assumed it was on the first drop or even before/after the loop. But I did enjoy the ride in its first version. The first hill was one of the scariest moments I have had on a ride. It was fast (riding in the front seat was crazy!). The final turn before the loop was always exciting because if I remember correctly, it slowed down just a bit? But then the loop was great. The second Helix was better than the first. But it was a good ride. But after the loop was removed it just felt like it was rougher to me (later I found out that the trains were changed). After the removal of the loop the ride felt like it bounced side to side more. It was just not as enjoyable from that moment on. It actually was a ride I would skip because of the poor ride.

  27. My prayers are with the victims family/ friends & co-workers. A terrible tragedy that could have easily been prevented. To our younger members: whenever you enter the workforce and are around machinery, pay attention to LOTO (lock out/ tag out). Accidents like this can be prevented if proper procedures are strictly followed. TAKE NO SHORTCUTS!

  32. Why all the hate towards Raging Bull? I absolutely love that ride (next to The Crypt @ Kings Island of course!)! When I went to Six Flags Great America, lines for everything were minimal, but I didn't get to do Viper, Whizzer, their train, etc. But noo! You didn't get to do Ragin' Cajun, King Chaos, Condor, or Triple Play? I adore those rides, though a little less than The Crypt. Condor was my first and only HUSS Condor, and Triple Play is super fun, as well as King Chaos. I'm also dissapointed that you didn't get to ride Iron Wolf. I found Demon's ending very cool. I like how it interacts with the train and the walkway, as well as the sound of the train coming to a stop and the brakes releasing. American Eagle was very fun, and I actually liked the queue for the ride. I just didn't like the fact that we lost. It also shares the name as one of my favorite clothing stores! Final Thoughts: I feel that the straight spike on V2 is better than Wicked Twister's spiral tower. It's a looong way down if you're in the back seat, and I find it more thrilling than that of Wicked Twister. Also, Superman breaks down a lot (can anybody explain why? Edited to keep the Terpy away--Why does it brake down often? What is the cause for Superman: Ultimate Flight at Six Flags Great America breaking down often?), and is rather un-thrilling after the pretzel loop. Glad you had a great day! I hope I get to experience the park again, soon. It gives a new meaning of "a Six Flags day!"

  33. Great to see Gary get 7K. I've ridden with him several times also, he is a great guy and I hate seeing anyone question his integrity or the way he spends his time. He is beyond retirement age and still works he has lived a life and doesn't need to get one. Maybe some of the Facebook haters need to get off Facebook and get the life they suggest for others. If nothing else he should be an insperation to people I'm going to be 50 in a couple of weeks and hope I have his energy and spirit in 20 years.

  34. Heres an idea I have for a new coaster and what to do with SOB. "Beast's Revenge". A brand new B&M giga. The supports would be dark brown, with blood red track. The trains would be like DB's, with two Beast paws, claws extended, on the nose of the front car. Of the three trains, the colors would be black, silver, and red. This new coaster would also include $30 million in already existing theming! Thats where SOB's structure comes into play. Demolish certain areas of the structure and leave others standing. Scatter the wood on the ground around the demolished sections. Place one of the trains on the track of a standing section, as if the front car is hanging over the edge. Take the other train and drop it from the crane near a smashed section of track from 100 feet up or so, so it smashes up as if it fell from the track. Then use some of the broken timber to build the sign for "Beast's Revenge", so that fans of SOB could touch some of the wood from the coaster . The new coaster would weave in and out of the still standing sections of SOB. The back story would be that "Beast" was angry about what had been done with SOB and thrashed it royaly! I think this would be a great ride and would also save some money on demo costs. Plus pay homage to SOB at the same time. I'm sure there are reasons why they couldnt or wouldnt, but would still be cool.

  35. I can only imagine that the situation with Son of Beast and Kings Island would be like buying a new Porsche 911, only to have it not run and be forced to park it in your front yard. Like the Porsche, not only was it extremely expensive, it was supposed to provide thrills for years to come.

  38. I would love to see a revamp of Action Zone, but if you look in the past couple of years you have had Flight Deck receive a new paint job and then this year Invertigo has received a fresh coat. I would love to see SoB open in 2013, that would be revamp enough for me.
