  1. Actually, people need to stop being so emotionally attached to their opinion. If you are too sensitive, and can't handle someone disagreeing with you, an internet forum probably is not the place for you.

  2. Facebook is a self serving, ego fueling, privacy invading, waste of brain cells that could be put to better uses like watching grass grow or wood rot. I'm proud to say I've never posted or looked at anything on Facebook. Sounds like the level of discussion on the KI Facebook page lives up to my expectations.

  5. Mr. Bruno! Stop trolling the unknown public people! bahahahah xD it is making my day though. Okay this one is my favorite and I had to say, "what the hell do you think they do in the winter months" : "I know.,, it's sad.. They just need to close the park down one season and fix EVERYTHING (even if nothing is wrong) they should make sure it's all perfect ! Yess I understand that they're machines and they may break down sometimes. Or something but it wouldn't hurt to just take a season to make everything perfect and have them almost sure nothing will happen... And since they're machines they could need a. Slight repair at times,. But it don't hurt to try.(:" Haha, because shutting down the park for an entire season would definitely make people much happier. My favorites: "Is there still the red and blue racers?" (Voicetek beat me too it, but seriously people are posting on Facebook, so they have internet, why don't they just check the website) "Firehawk stole my keys and they won't give them back!!!!" "Kings Island should do a better job about the so called dress code... if a boy/guy cant walk around without a shirt on then a girl/woman shouldnt be allowed either..The only difference is one has boobs. Really now whats the difference??????????? A reply to this: "Agreed!!!!! Dress code clearly states that shirts /shorts/pants - clothes! must be worn. Yet you see girls/women walking around in their bikini tops flaunting their stuff/gut and being allowed to get on rides like that too. Not sure what's happened, but the employees and management this year are not as customer oriented this year at all. Guess they don't realize that we are who fund their paychecks!" Final one for now: Just curious, why do you guys change the names of the rides so many times?? Been coming there for bout 32 years and have seen that happen just about every year? Reply: well what is now called the wind seeker has been changed after is was bought out, and the use to be drop zone has been changed after and b4 and that is just a couple, i no when they sold out they would change some of the names, but really don't matter to me , I love Kings Island, and always will gonna be there hopefully in the next two weeks.

  6. Back in the 90's, when it was possible for the maintenance folks to easily adjust/lower the old skid brakes, I had the opportunity as an employee to take a spin on The Beast with all the brakes off. They occasionally did this early in the year in preparation for the start of the season to "break in" the ride. Having ridden it in normal operation hundreds of times, I can honestly say the most impressive part of the experience was the amount of speed the ride is capable of in the section between the break shed and the second lift (in the sections of track where the ride hugs the ground). The lack of breaks on the first drop didn't add a whole lot to the experience (although it did allow for the smallest pop of airtime in the back seat on the hill as you come off the first drop). The helix felt a little faster, but mostly a dramatic increase in roughness. Having ridden it without the breaks, I definitely think they are necessary (as much as I hate to say it) for the comfort of most guests and for maintenance purposes - I could see some of the turns needing yearly rebuilding if they let it go "full throttle." And while the speeds today are generally the same as when the skid breaks were used, I just think they are more noticable because of the magnetic trims. The skid breaks slowed more gradually, as opposed to the sudden "grabbing" feeling of the magnets.

  7. I was going to say the exact same thing. What's my favorite may not be someone else's. Unless the ride is unsafe, keep it. Taking a ride out just because it's in the way of something else doesn't sit well with me. What's so bad about cloned rides and areas? The thing you have to realize is that most park visitors are not like us. They don't care if there's another ride hundreds or thousands of miles away that's exactly like the one at their local park. More people in different regions get to experience similar things, I see nothing wrong with that. Same idea as my response above. How many different CF haunted events do you make it to a year? I go to CP's every year, and I work KI's. A vast majority of visitors only go to one. They don't care that there's Club Bloods at both CP & KI (which are vastly different... ours being the better of the two IMO). Even with the Overlords and Club Bloods, there's enough different attractions at each to warrant a trip to each event.

  9. Not a one, if you don't like it then don't ride it. The only rides I would take out, are ones that are not safe any more. If there is a ride that I do not like, I am sure there is some one out there that does like it, so no reason to take it out.

  10. This past Wednesday I headed down to Stricker's Grove with my girlfriend. This is our third trip there, and the second time we attended the 4H fair. The only other time we went was last year during the Customer Appreciation Day. While the 4H fair is slightly more expensive and it doesn't have the freebe's that the other days do, it does offer almost non-existant waits for rides. We got to the park around 5pm which is when the rides opened. Off we went to Tornado. First thing I noticed was that two of the nine rows in the train (1-3 and 2-1) were not working. We took our seat in the very last row, and off we went. While I wouldn't even come close to calling this ride rough, it did have a touch of jack hammering at the bottom of the first drop in the very last row, which I don't remember it having last year. However, this was the only seat that I experienced it in. "The Cliff" still gives you that familiar jolt. We headed back to the station, but since there was no one in line, the train didn't even stop, and we went around for the second lap. Little did we know, that would pretty much happen all night. If there was no one in line, the ride cycle on the flats would pretty much keep on going. There were a few other things that I had noticed throughout the day: Tornado was receiving a new paint job slowely: New sign stating that Stricker's is the home to 4-H: Pirate Ship, their new ride for 2012, wasn't quite ready: While I don't have pictures of either of these, the chaser lights on Tornado wern't chasing, and instead only had one bulb lit for about every ten. Also, a good amount of the lights on Tilt-a-Whirl were out. Scrambler received a new paint job: Tip Top had a couple of it's outer lights out. However after looking at pictures I took last year and the pictures on Stricker's website, the lights in the center of the ride had returned with a rainbow color, as opposed to the clear they are online, and the lack of lights all together in 2011. Other then that, here are just a few other pictures from our night: In the end, we had a great time, and can't wait to go back in the fall.

  11. ^I think it's just the fact that it's something completely new, not to the industry, but to the park. You also need to keep in mind the demographic KI attracts compared to a major operation like a Disney or Busch. Generally people vacationing in Florida have a lot more discretionary income than a blue collar Midwestern family spending one day at a Kings Island.

  13. I call the rides by their name now. They were changed and the names are on the map. If someone asks me where a ride is or I overhear them asking, I'm not gonna say "oh are you looking for Top Gun? Do you remember where Face/Off is? Yeah it's around the corner from that." Yeah it's great to remember the days of Paramount, but Paramount is no longer the owner of the park nor does the naming of the rides, I'll respect the park and current owners by calling the rides, what they have them named as. It's kind of like if someone changed their own name, would you continue to call them by their old name?

  14. Hmmm, let's see if I understand this correctly. I WORK so I can't go to KI during off peak times. On the weekends and some evenings, I have seen that the park has had parking over the hill in the north lot. Hey, I'm glad they're doing so well. But the cost of admission, putting up with the crowds (mostly teens who can't even watch where they're going because they're so absorbed in that useless cell phone and those darn basketballs) well, I guess I've become too old for all this. If it's going to take that plus having to shell out half a hundred to avoid that nonsense, its just not worth it. I have a pass and have only been I think 3 times this season. I also live nearly an hour away now, and going to an environment similar to work just doesn't appeal to me. More power to ya if you have the money to blow on it. My trips in the future are probably going to be once maybe twice a year. I wish money didn't rule everything out there.

  18. I commented on that one. She said "Six Flags it is then!" after someone told her it wasn't there anymore. What?! Also, everyone is spelling it Delerium, I know it's been said, but it's amazing how many people spell it like that. It's annoying me! Browntggrr...I'm finding your comments on the Delirium posts. You answer better than Kings Island themselves!

  23. It's not greedy. It's your choice to buy it. If it's too expensive you don't have to buy it. Being greedy would be making you pay $12 for a locker!

  24. I thought $45 was kinda cheap too. I mean yeah $55 is a good bit, but from what I hear you really get your money worth from it. When I go I plan to get one, so to me it would still be worth it.

  25. Why do that? This is easy revune for the park that helps fund future expansion.

  26. And why would they do that? It's a business.

  27. I like every opinion on here. Even the iso-critical meta-opinions seem rooted in a sort of 'tough love,' rather than impersonal harshness towards our new contributors. There's an underlying sense of friendly humor inherent in a lot of the "critical" posts, so don't take them personally.

  30. Best post in this thread. Why get rid of something just because YOU do not like it? There is a reason not just anyone can run a park/business, thank God. On really busy days most every ride in the entire park has a long line.

  35. The Racer and Beast. The Beast takes up too much land that could be used for other important things and The Racer is just an eyesore. If you didn't notice by now I'm trolling you. We all know that The Beast and Racer are amazing coasters and that the park should tear down that pile of wood in AZ.

  36. I was told by a supervisor (sketchy, I know) that the reason they do this is so that employees can more easily monitor the guests. She said that there were too many disturbances (fights, line-jumping, etc...) inside of the building, and it was difficult to handle the situations well because there were so many people in such a compacted area. They have an employee sitting outside, and they can monitor more people if they are outdoors.

  37. I'm not sure if this is it, but at Cedar Point back in the 90s, they'd pack all 3 rooms of Disaster Transport in the air conditioning. Then, this suddenly changed one year. They only allowed a single turnstile open through all the rooms, and a big long line formed in temporary turnstiles out of the building. It was reported by many employees that they changed to this style for fire safety reasons. So, this could possibly be the same situation with Flight of Fear at Kings Island?

  38. From Americana/Lesourdesville Lake. Somewhere I read that they think it's probably the last ride that can be saved from it. The Pirate Ship itself was actually installed last year, but the line and the control booth weren't built until this year. By the looks of it, they still have a little bit to go, hopefully it'll be operational by October.

  39. No. It's because they want to make the line appear longer than it is so that they can sell more Fast Lane passes!

  43. Cedar Point has the same schtick with the Overlord ruling over the ghouls; it's just the name of the event (HalloWeekends) that's different. Knott's Berry Farm, however, just axed their Overlord in favor of having the Green Witch be their new icon for their 40th anniversary.

  44. Not sure your age, but with a kid who recently turned 4 (as well as a newborn) I find Planet Snoopy's collection of coasters to be almost perfect, and well spaced out in terms of height requirements (not sure if it was planned that way or they just fell into it) Nevermind that if you removed any of the 3 coasters in Planet Snoopy you wouldn't net much space to anything else with other than another kids ride. The Great Pumpkin coaster was great when he was 2 and not quite tall enough to get on Woodstock Express. By the time he turned 3, he sprouted up to 40" and loves every ride on Woodstock express. Sure its small and meant for little kids, but it still packs in a great ride for even an adult. He just turned 4 and is now tall enought ride Flying arial chase. Previously I had never been on Flying Ace before until he hit the 44" mark earlier this summer, but you definently get the feeling that you're moving faster than what you'd guess it to feel like when watching it on the ground. You get a good starter coaster intended for small kids, you get a nice classic woodie with some air time, especially for little kids working their way up, then you get an inverted ride with your legs swinging free to give them that big kid feel. Get ride of Snoopy Junction and install an nice indoor wild mouse style coaster and you'd have a near peferct lineup of coasters for kids of all ages to progress thru as they work up to The Racers or The Beast. Next year he should be tall enough to progress up to the 48" coasters.

  45. Backlot Stunt Coaster! Get that ugly piece of crap out of my park right now, and bring back the 'Tiques and Flyers! That thing is nothing but a big commercial for a forgettable Mark Wahlberg star vehicle and/or Mini Coopers, neither of which has survived the test of time! Fun ride, though...
