  8. What confuses me is that he first said that it is new to the park, but then he later said its a major renovation. Renovation means fixing something that's already there. Am I the only one confused by this?

  14. From personal observation, the two largest impacts of a coaster's speed without significant modification are weather conditions and train weight. Compare the run time of a coaster on a cold morning with an empty train to that of a cool (not cold) night when it has been running full trains all day and is carrying a full load of passengers ... you will get a cycle time of several seconds shorter. A very fast way to see this difference is on Tennessee Tornado. On cold days with empty trains, it will actually be running so slow that it loses quite a bit of it's centrifugal (sp?) force in the spyro loop. You will hear it "fall" on to the upstop wheels a little past halfway through - it makes a pretty amusing groan as it does so. If it's been running all day with full trains and is nice and warmed up, it will clear the spyro loop without ever touching the upstops. The cycle time will vary by 4-5 seconds throughout the season, dependent on running conditions. On The Beast, you can judge the speed difference in the train by how far up lift #2 it catches the chain. On cold mornings with empty trains, the front car of the train will not reach the first evacuation staircase before it catches. Under optimal wood coaster conditions (at the end of the day, full train, cool, rainy - Haunt is perfect for this), it will catch with as many as 3 cars above that staircase.

  17. Information regarding the 3.1-mile course will be announced in a matter of days. The course will take Color Me Pink participants behind the scenes of some of the park's most popular attractions, including the Invertigo and Diamondback roller coasters and the KI & Miami Valley Railroad. Great to see KIC will have a team for this event. It's something KIC members will have fun doing together prior to the gates opening for the 2013 season.

  20. Maybe everything in Action Zone will be painted red and be renamed to "Red Zone" with the 2014 attraction being Red Streak, with everything also being painted red. Sounds like a great plan to me!

  23. That's happened to me there, and that may be the incident you're referring to. I forget who was with me at the time. I was quite perturbed, and pointed out to the ride op that it was in a zippered or velcroed pocket. It didn't make any difference. I unhappily handed over my phone, but that day I learned a valuable lesson: Never get your cell phone out in a Holiday World station! I don't think it was you I saw, but I noticed it several times prior to last season. I've noticed starting last year that they aren't as overly picky about having one out in the station anymore as long as you put it away before you get on the ride and don't have it out on the ride. Then they'll still take it, but then again, so will I if you have one out on the Tornado if I see it. FYI - As a side note for everyone, the prohibiting of taking pictures on the ride is also presented on the sign at every entrance and exit at Kings Island...along with the rider responsibility law, which states that it is your responsibility to follow said posted rules. Just saying.

  24. From Gregs Twitter With all the things that are being renovated in Action Zone (Thunder Ally and SOB being removed, and the Tower leaving) I think it is safe to say that what ever Greg is talking about to is going to be in AZ, and the only red thing in AZ is Stunt Crew Grill. So I think it is pretty accurate to say that is what he is alluding to.

  31. Man its been a while since Ive been on here! As some of you know me I played Steve in Urgent scare in the hallway and in the last 2 weeks in the morgue and most likely returning again to haunt the halls of the hospital. I would really love Urgent scare to be revamped for this year with new layout, rooms, scenes, and actors. Would be nice if we had all of Acton Theater to ourselves that would make for one incredible hospital. Guess Steve can only be wishing until its time for fresh meat to roam looking for a non existent cure to whatever it happening to them. Couldnt see why anyone would want to fix whats happening to them? Just look at Steve I loved what happened!

  32. First time poster. Long time browser. I am a big guy too. Last year I bought my family season passes. I was only able to ride on very few rides. Surprisingly I was able to fit on some of the rides in Planet Snoopy better than the "adult" rides. I really had some hard times because my oldest son was wanting to ride rides, and as a family my wife would have to always ride with our youngest and I couldnt fit to ride with him. The last day of the season last year, I went to almost every ride in the park that I had been "shamed" from and forced myself into the Walk of Shame again just to see how close I was. Since then I have been working on trimming down as much as I can. I hope by April 27 I will be able to ride some of the things that I used to be able to ride. Its been a difficult journey but since then I have lost about 40 pounds, I still hope to lose a lot more,

  41. My best piece of advice: Don't go on opening weekend. Seriously. I've made that mistake in the past. The extremely short off-season means they aren't exactly prepared for full opening. Expect late openings on everything (it was after noon before a single one of the coasters opened, many didn't open until 3 pm), one train operation on every coaster, and a few may not even open at all. When we made that mistake in 2010, Goliath, Superman, Mind Bender, Batman, and Georgia Scorcher all had over an hour (sometimes hour and a half plus) wait all day (a relative term as they were only open for a few hours) despite a fairly small crowd because of one train operation. Great American Scream Machine wasn't open, and I don't believe Ninja was either. We spent most of the day riding flats and Georgia Cyclone. For the first two hours we were there, we could only ride the train because it was the only thing open. I've heard the two years since then haven't been exactly peachy either. We also had problems with our season passes scanning for parking and admission (we'd processed the prior year), only a handful of food stands were open with long lines, and just generally seemed like everything was in chaos. I'd recommend that you wait a few weeks for them to get it together.

  43. Let's just say, we are ALL really proud of our Golden Ticket win over Holiday World this past year. In 2011 they beat us by 4%. In 2012, we beat them by 26% ... so ... yeah, we're proud of that and we want to hold on to it.

  44. Opening Day 2009 was the most memorable for me. Not just because of Diamondback but because that was the first time I'd ever gotten to really hang out with a lot of KICers. I won the drawing that Rex and The Beast (.com) held for a seat with Rex during the first rider auction which was a HUGE surprise to me. I seriously never win anything and when I got that email I went running through my house yelling "I GET TO RIDE Diamondback!!" My mom thought I was crazy. (Rex and I in the back seat. In the front seat is Jackson, aka Beast1979) I ended up staying the night before in the Super 8 across the highway with Angie (gigacoaster2k) who had become a really good friend over the winter. We're still incredibly close. She was the first good friend I made as a member of this site. Opening day, I also met my now-best friend Stephanie (kittenpooh), my now-husband Nick (dare-to-fly) and many, many, many others who have become really good friends. I can't remember all the usernames of the people in this photo, but they include KICers Makayla (ogrmac), Angie, (gigacoaster2k), Dustin (kiruler102), Derrick (PhantomTheater), Danielle, Jesse and Shawn Opening day 2011 was another memorable one if only because everything went wrong. I missed The Racer evac because Nick and I went to lunch at exactly the wrong time, but I got about a million texts about it. At one point, I finally gave up on trying to ride anything because like Chris (chugh43) said, everything went down when we tried to ride it! I took Stephanie's kids and spent several hours in Nick U with them while everyone else tried to ride Diamondback and Beast. The best part of opening day 2011 though was when we took Stephanie's daughter Mindy on her very first "grown up" ride - she'd hit the magical 48" mark over the winter and started her entrance into the enthusiast world with a night ride on The Beast!! Pretty much everyone in this pic met because of KIC. Mindy is on the far right after her "new favorite ride!" Opening day 2012 was memorable because .... oh yeah, I didn't go to opening day 2012 because some KICer decided to get married that day.

  45. I couldn't give you an exact reference, but I seem to recall one of those parks qualifying GoPros as loose articles. I have seen a helmet-mounted camera be rejected by ride ops at Kings Island within the past year. As always, your best bet is to contact the parks.

  46. I think we need some more Planet Snoopy rides as well and also possibly a "snoopyfied" wild mouse coaster

  47. I disagree that it was a "ride once" experience. I think those old dark rides were classics! They were something that became trip traditions. Even up through the Phantom Theater, these were rides that my friends, family, and I would ride at least once during every visit. We usually would hit them up twice, once when we got there and once when we left. To say that if a dark ride isn't interactive you can't ride it more than once is kind of ridiculous. That's like saying that Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, and The Haunted Mansion at Disney World are "ride once" experiences. I think that if the ride is done well, with interesting characters, scenery, and music that people will want to ride it again and again. I feel that's what we had with The Enchanted Voyage, Smurfs, and Phantom Theater and I think we could have something just as memorable if only someone would put the effort into making it that way.

  48. This came up in another thread, but I think it's a fabulous idea. I'd like a Peanuts dark ride boat ride reminiscent of the Smurfs ride. I think it's time for Boo Blasters to go and for something to occupy that space that's more in line with Planet Snoopy and something that would be just as memorable as the Enchanted Voyage or the Smurfs. Something like a Peanuts dark ride could really bring back that classic feel to the area and would be something that could be enjoyed by families for many, many years!
