  1. I want a puce color coaster. No - make that tutti-frutti. I don't mean to upset anyone (I know I will) but do you all know how ridiculous you sound? What the hell difference does the color of a friggin' ride got to do with anything? I mean - geez - this topic is about decoding, not preferences. IF it's a coaster or if it's not a coaster, the color is not gonna keep anyone off of it. My god - the general public could give a rat's ass as to what color a ride is. Besides that, when a re-painting is done, the color can be changed - as it often is. Look at Scooby-Doo, I mean Beastie, I mean Fairly Odd Coaster, I mean Woodstock Express (hummm - I gues the names can change too!). Furthermore, I don't care what color you want, nor do I care what color it will be - I'd like to see some detective work and some facts, which is what this topic is supposed to be about.

  2. I'm pretty sure you guys are putting way too much thought into this. Let's look at the clues: 1.) Cedar Fair trademarks the name Banshee. Think back to the teaser on the fence. Mysterious, bone-chilling screams? Unless the park is really trying to throw a curveball here, I don't see what other name could be used. Before anyone brings up Mustang, was the name Mustang trademarked? 2.) It would be almost unheard of for a seasonal park to start construction this early for a small attraction. AKA: The odds of us getting a wild mouse are pretty small in my book. 3.) We have footers on the ground! They look like coaster footers, they smell like coaster footers, they taste like coaster footers, they sound like coaster footers... you finish the puzzle. 4.) Does Cedar Fair have a history of building ziplines? I mean, not to be rude, but really? Do you honestly think that is what this is for? 5.) This is almost certainly B&M. But why Diamondhawk, why are you taking all our toys? Cedar Fair doesn't seem to exactly love Intamin right now. In fact, Intamin hasn't been used at Cedar Fair since 2010 for I305. I remember Don saying that Kings Island wanted to focus on reliable, high capacity rides after disasters such as Son of Beast, The Cyrpt, Backlot Stunt Coaster, etc. Also, if that's not enough proof, CEO Matt Ouimet said while at the B&M plant looking at Gatekeeper, that Kings Island was on his radar. 6.) Don is trying to throw you off with that tweet. And it clearly worked. Hats off to you Mr. Helbig. Don't look too much into this. I know the anticipation is great for the new ride, but not every word out of Don's mouth will have to do with this new attraction.

  3. Nobody did a tr on Opening Day that was with me the whole day, and I had a lot of time to kill in the car so why not...? I'll warn you now that these pictures aren't very good. I just took a few throughout the day real quick. I wasn't planning on making a tpr, but why not i guess. I was really excited to go to ki all week, but on Saturday morning I just wasn't feeling up to it. At the last minute i decided to go. I was dropped off and headed for tower drinks. Beastie1980 was happy to see me, i was just in time to jump into the kic photo. IMG_7298 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr I'm the one in the blue shirt in the top left corner. Me and Beastie1980 got to meet Terpy, that was really cool. Hey terp. After that we kinda split and most of went to feastus. Some ate while most of us just sat around and watched the show, it was like a rock and roll show or something... But they had Michael Jackson in there, and he's the king of pop so i didn't really get that. But I guess the MJ fans were happy, so who cares. Then the group split again and they tried to get a table at the Reds Hall of Fame Grille. Apparently that didn't work out so we all met up at hanks. Me, Beastie1980 (plus her sister summer and her mom), Muppetfan1999, and Fire-Beast-of-Fear all sat at the really short kids table and ended up talking for about 2 hours. IMG_7308 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr I liked this picture because there was a bee on his hat and I caught him as he grabbed his hat and threw it across the table. xD We didn't even notice until the whole group got up and left us ...almost xD. Indyguy4ki was able to take us to see Don real quick. I've never seen do before so that was neat. IMG_7314 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr I didn't really know what to say so I just kind stood there... haha. Us six kinda split away from the group and headed to Flight Deck hoping the line would be shorter than the others. On the way there we saw the teaser. IMG_7319 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr Apparently the line was not short... It was stretched all the way to the tunnel. I've never seen it that long before. We were all really shocked. haha. We decided since all the lines were going to be 2-3 hours we tried to figure out the ride that would be worth waiting for. They picked Diamondback. I wasn't all on board for starting my first ride of the season with DB since I've never rode it before, but at this point i really didn't care. We got over to DB with a nice line waiting for us. IMG_7349 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr (Rawr! lol waiting in line for DB) Me and Beastie1980 sat in the front of the car while Fire-Beast-Of-Fear and Muppetfan1999 rode in the back. It was really fun, everything i thought it would be. The ride photo was really bad, my whole head was sideways and it looked like it was about to fall off or something. xD We then started walking to the Reds Hall of Fame Grille and made reservations, and the we got in line of the Eiffel Tower wanting to see SOB gone. Halfway through the line our table was ready and we ditched the line and ran to the Grille. Its a lot nicer than i thought it would be. The prices weren't out of this world, and they had FREE REFFILS. Yeah, I'm not sure if those are going to stay or not but we were happy about that. We went out back onto the porch and it was really close to DB. After we ate we headed towards the old Crypt building IMG_7334 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr (you guys were standing tallest to shortest me and summer just couldn't resist snapping one ) and met up with Malem. Muppetfan1999 wanted to ride his favorite, Firehawk. That was good with me since nobody i know likes that ride and I don't really get to ride it that much. Firehawk was like an 1.5 hour wait i think. I rode with MuppetFan1999 and Summer. Me and him really liked it, while Beastie1980 took a pledge to never ride it again xD. After that we ran over to The Beast where we met up with Ohio Colts and his Family. IMG_7336 by vacationphotos2013, on Flickr We were about 4 rows of bars away from the gates when we had to stop for fireworks. About 10 min later we got onto The Beast. I sat with MuppetFan1999, we were both really excited because none of us had really had a night ride on The Beast. Both of us just had like a dusk ride. And we were off. Me and him were stunned, it seemed faster this year and it was the best Beast ride I've had. I loved the sound of the screams in the dark tunnels. After we hit the break run me and him both exchanged the 'THAT WAS THE BEST BEAST RIDE EVER' look haha. It was more fun with the Kicers too. Beastie1980 had to wait for her sister and her mom but me and Muppetfan1999 had to make a mad dash to the parking lot because we kept our rides waiting. Fire-Beast-Of-Fear also joined in and we tried to get out of the park as fast as we could. Almost no lights were on, the rides were all shut down, and nobody we in the park. Creepy... As we cut through river town, Planet Snoopy and down International Street, Fire-Beast-Of-Fear said goodbye while me and MuppetFan1999 sped walked out to the parking lot together since our rides were waiting for us in the same spot all the way near the big welcome sign. We said goodbye and Opening Day came to a close. Well actually the park closed 45 minutes ago but same thing right? It was really fun i hope to go for closing day as i will be moved down into our new house that is only 30 minutes from ki than the usual 4 hours. We headed back to our soon-to-be house where i got to pull staples out of the floor. Fun stuff. I'll definitely try to go for the next opening day. This was probably my favorite ki trip even though of the insane lines.

  8. Everyone knows how much venom is in the bite of Diamondback..... Could you handle the bite and burning venom of offspring?....... Last time there was offspring of a monster at Kings Island it decided not to behave, Are you ready to handle this?.... New for 2014 at Kings Island, BabyBack! The tallest, fastest, meanest, baddest coaster ever to slither the earth. Just remember, The Banshee was only a snack.....

  10. This is precicely what causes addict gamblers to 1. become addicted and 2. lose everything. Remember: The odds favor the house ALWAYS. Most such games are engineered to make the player want to win the biggest, best prize by spending the most the fastest. The responsibility of restraint is the player's. If you don't win after a few tries, STOP! You have other things to spend money on later. If you happen to win and are offered "Double or Nothing," STOP! Take your prize and go. You've already won; why take a 50% risk against your own victory?!?! If you do happen to "win big" on your first few tries, STOP! You really got "lucky." Statistically, however, your next big win will cost you more than the value of your prize! Don't get caught up in trying to win back what you've lost... it's hard for some to break out of.

  12. Hello, this is my first time posting. I love Kings Island and find it very interesting that there are footers already being placed and poured so early into the season. I hope it's a B&M giga that is different than both Diamondback and Leviathan. I would also like to see a b&m inverted coaster. "Banshee" (not saying thats the name of the new ride) looks like its going to be pretty large. So excited for 2014 already!

  13. Great Trip Report Original! Thanks for sharing your day!

  14. I myself really hope its a giga coaster or maybe KI and B&M have created an all new coaster that has never been thought of would be nice. If KI was to get the "first" of a kind rollercoaster would really put an exclamation point on the park.

  15. I'm just throwing it out there because it would be a tie in with Action Zone. I was just using the "Pterodactyl" reference to DA. But what else flies only as high as average trees? Zip line popularity has grown tremedously over the last couple years and the designers have made them extremely safe. So you're telling me Son of Beast and Thunder Alley were pulverized so the park can add a long zip line to Dinosaurs Alive.Mkay..

  16. It's not like we have a whole area themed to dinosaurs or anything.

  17. I'm reminded of a rigged Balloon-Dart game at the Montana State Fair one year. There were all these wonderful prizes visible in the trailer/booth. The drunken carney handed me the typical, blunt darts and explained the simple rules. I threw all three darts and was able to pop 3 underinflated balloons. The carney quickly reached under the "table" and pulled out a plastic spider ring. I said "your sign says I win a big prize." He pushed what looked like a doorbell button and walked back over to me and said "UP TO a large prize. You don't win that with just one game." I started complaining when this half-bald, greasy-haired 50-something, whol looked exactly like TV's "Cannon," came over on a huge motorcycle, chomping a cigar and staring like he was ready to bounce me (thus, I guess, the doorbell button). I tossed the cheap "prize" that I spent $2 on back to the carney and just walked away. Wiser.

  19. I dreamt up "Timber-Tantrum" for a wooden coaster while playing Roller Coaster Tycoon about 10 years ago, but the name got taken for other purposes. Oh, well. C'set la vie.

  20. I don't really want a coaster, just an expansion. However, seeing the footers, it's a very "high" possibility that we're getting one...

  21. I'm sorry, but if you're 30 years old and your total life savings is only $2,600, then I highly doubt that your financial situation is such that you should be wasting money on carnival games in the first place.

  24. My favorite ride at Kings Island growled its last goodbyes back in the summer of 2009, and in 2012 it made its final screams of agony as it was torn to peices....... But thats okay because now we get to see what this "Building towards the future" project entails!!

  25. Hmm...pretty sure there may already be a topic like this, but I'll bite: The Beast! Especially at night. Diamondback is my #2, however. Least favorite? Well, I've enjoyed everything I have ever ridden in the park...except ONE ride, The Crypt. And it's dead now! (Granted, from POVs and stuff I've seen, it was awesome when it was Tomb Raider: The Ride). Oh, and welcome to KIC...and trust me, that search bar can come in quite handy sometimes. (I was a KIC "Tourist" too just a few years ago in 2009...you'll eventually get the hang of this site and how it "rolls"... )

  33. My guess, is that if you're spending $2,600 on a carnival game to win a $100 XBox kinect, you don't have much of a life savings nest egg built up. On a side note, many would be surprised how few a % of people over the age of 30 couldn't scratch up $1000 on short notice to cover an emergency expense. I remember seeing some 60 minutes (or perhaps another news magazine show) story off people looking for work and how some had tapped into their 401(k). One person said they had exhausted their entire 401(k) and was still with out work. Biggest problem was that the person was in their late 50s, maybe even 60s and their value of their 401(k) prior to taking out early withdrawls was like $70,000. For those unaware, $70,000 isn't much of a retirment nest egg, at least that late in one's working career. I'm close to 30 and I rarely have over 1000 in my savings. Its just hard to save up sometimes with my mortgage, 2 car payments, and various other bills. I haven't done it, but I've thought about it plenty of times to tap into our 401(k). Back on topic: I think this guy does have a serious problem, whether it's gambling or not. How do you not know when to draw the line and stop playing the game?? If I spend 20 dollars on a game, I felt like I have over done it. Maybe the banana was telling him to do it, I don't know. Haha Trust me, I know what its like to feel like every dollar coming in, is already going out for the next car payment, child care, mortgage, etc.. didn't mean to come off preachy. Financial discussions are often best for other boards

  35. I remember as a kid I thought the name "Screamin Demon" was the coolest name for a coaster and along with the logo for the ride just topped it. Would love to see that name return. The other name I love is "Griffon" , there is something that makes that name seem so powerful that is works great for a massive coaster..

  36. I don't understand the name Mantis. The name is cool but there isn't much to the ride that relates back to an insect. Personally, I feel Banshee would have been a much better fit.

  40. Why? Cause they've proven guest-favorites at both Busch Gardens parks and could be a great marketing tool for Kings Island. Even if some enthusiasts dislike it or consider it bland, the general public still finds them thrilling.

  41. The smaller bottles are so much easier to carry around the park. They are still big enough to share if need be. Just be careful when you order them online because we learned today that not all employees are aware of how that works. 30 minutes in Guest Relations later and we had cups. Not to mention the website boasts about getting your cup for 3 bucks cheaper than park price, yet there is a 6 dollar Service Charge when you order one. Well played Cedar Fair.

  42. I really hate to say this but I think Flight Deck is the dumbest name a ride could ever possibly be given. I probably wouldn't think it was that bad if Top Gun hadn't been such a perfect name for the ride before. I would probably call it something cooler if I could like "Take-off". But even that sounds lame. If I had a choice to name it without any copyright restrictions, I'd name it Top Gun again.

  43. ^^ To me, that feels like she's signing off. I don't know how to describe it. Like, if you put your heart and years of your life into your dream, only to have your family argue over who's in charge of it and who's making the money off of it, wouldn't you be a little put out? And then add the fact that your dream is successful because people believe you're not out to grab money. That's Pat Koch right now. She's got a reputation for being hardworking, and she's avoiding appearing in anything related to the park. To me, that says she's tried what she can, and she is not proud of the results. It's like trying to resolve things between two people shouting at each other with their hands over their ears. If it were anyone else in the company, I wouldn't mind as much. When it's one of the biggest pillars of the essence of Holiday World declining to associate herself with the place, then I'm concerned about its future.

  47. Not all of us thought it was a roller coaster or a new ride. Many of us realized it was extremely unlikely a new coaster could be constructed in a month's time. Hopefully? I hope it sticks around. It's an extremely fun ride, seems to be a favorite among guests, and brings in some revenue for the park.
