This campaign is near and dear to me for a few reasons which I will share. Obviously, it gives someone a chance to fulfill a desire or dream who is less fortunate than I. I am 14 and diagnosed with Tourtte's Syndorme and OCD. Secondly, I know what it is like to be in a similar situation due to my diagnosis of Tourette's Syndrome. Finally, I am a roller coaster enthusiast and I love to watch peoples faces light up with excitement and fun!! I beleive we are put on this earth to serve and love others and I love it when I have a chance to do this through my passions. Donating through this website is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. Many thanks for your support and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might want to donate too! I sure would appreciate it. God Bless!! Here is the link:http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/KyleKruthoffer/screamforakidagain37 points

When TDE and others use carrots (Hi, Jonathan), the number thereof indicates the number of posts above it that the post replies to. This is done as mobile users using apps (harumph!) cannot quote posts as easily as we old fuddy-duddies. The other day, the manager of an Irish bar was incredulous I have no apps on my iPhone. I was busy quietly doing what I often do, usually anonymously.6 points

Had another dream on the 12th, and one last night. I'll explain last night's dream first while it is still fresh in my mind: I was at Banshee's Media Day. Instead of it being 5:30am-2pm, it was 5:30 pm to 2am! Also, instead of just Action Zone being open, it was the whole park! I ran back to Vortex. It looked normal. For now. I went inside the queue line and when I got to the station, I saw a train from The Beast in the same spot where I had seen a Vortex train just moments before, but there was also another train (not in the station) that was shaped like Vortex's train but it was a solid light gray color with glitter on it. (GLITTER!?!?!) So I got on, and "rode" this modified, strange-looking Vortex, then I get back in line to find that the line was shorter, but the queue was set up differently. Instead of a normal queue, it was this large ice slide where you had to skate (or ski) down the slide to get to the station! It was like figure skating, speed skating, downhill skiing, and bobsledding all in one. When I arrived down at the station I was starting to wonder if this was a dream or if this was actually happening. I reached out and touch the handrails. I was able to feel them, and they felt EXACTLY the same as in real life! I looked up, and now, instead of Vortex or The Beast, there was Banshee! When I got to the station again, it was midnight. Don was there saying it was midnight, but we had 2 more hours until Media Day (or Media Night, I should say) ended at 2am. By this time I had "rode" Banshee about 2-3 times, so I felt like riding something different. I went looking for Vortex, but somehow I had lots of trouble trying to find it, which wasn't good because I really wanted to ride it. Hey, at least I'll get to ride it for real in about a month! I'll tell the 3/12 dream later; I wrote it down somewhere... Total Vortex Dreams I've had This Offseason: 6.5 (there was yet another dream I had earlier this week that had Vortex in it, but only for a moment or two)6 points

I like how I'm an acronym now , that's a first haha, man I love having you around.. And again, if they raise 100, 10, or 10,000 dollars, it doesn't matter. The money goes to helping these kids that unfortunately have a complicated childhood, that money goes to them. So when I say I'm going to donate money to help them, it's for them. The park is allowing me to ride, great, but honestly I've raised money for groups such as this with no return at all, the fact I get a night ride, sweet, but honestly if I even didn't, I'd be fine. I do this for the kids, which is acceptable. If someone drops 100 bucks for the ride, cool, they gave 100 bucks to charity, how is that any reason to complain. Sweet you've busted your ass to get money for those kids, but anyone can raise this money for them and it shouldn't matter what they do it for, they're giving their hard earned money to these unfortunate children5 points

Not to be rude guys, but I don't see why we are bashing the people who are raising just $100. They are still raising money for a good cause, and who cares if they are raising it just to ride. They are still giving a good amount of money to a good cause.5 points

Even here in the age of instant, straming video, it's still nice to see 1973 Kings Island in nice, clear, digital broadcast tv! Our favorite "Brady Bunch" episode will air nationally on MeTV next Sunday, April 6th at 12:30 EDT. http://metvnetwork.com/schedule/2014-4-65 points

And so it goes. Interesting reading here. "Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat it." Now, pardon me. There's a Banshee to ride. Coming soon to a park near you.5 points

Just not at Media Day. Film running to showcase the park nearly constantly. Besides, some people thrive on attention and delight in it. Better to adore the coaster and the park than to give a particular attention seeking individual that which he craves.5 points

Kings Island on Facebook : "In this March 1981 photo, the original Bat roller coaster carries its first passengers during a test run. They were park employees who agreed the experience on the first suspended coaster in the world was unlike they had ever had before. The ride operated for parts of three seasons (1981-1983), giving 1.8 million rides." Photo : Don Helbig / Kings Island via Facebook4 points

Yeah I've raised $1000 and I don't see a problem with helping get people to the $100 mark so they can attend regardless of if they started the day it went live or last night all of the money is going to the same place.4 points

Whatever the name is, I am going to hear Pat Carroll's voice in my head delivering the safety rules. Could you just imagine? I would LOVE to hear her voice coming out of the speakers at Banshee!4 points

Ok. I will post several posts before this is done. I can say we have had a lot of fun and not broke the bank. Thursday we had a down day. It was honestly much needed. We usually run so much we neglect our need to have a rest day. We watched most of season one of Pretty Little Liars while we have been off. After rewatching it, we both have picked up a few different possibilities of who "A" is. We went to a friends cupcake cafe, followed by going to a couple of thrift stores. Found my Easter dress, a few pairs of cargo type pants/shorts and a couple other items and did not spend $20. I love great deals! We stopped and visited a friend we had not seen in quite a while. I then had very encouraging call with a other friend. It's wonderful when you can talk to people and it lifts your spirits. I hope I can be that person for others. Friday we headed to Columbus, Indiana and had lunch at Zakarahos. We met up with SixxiNixx99 and his daughter (and Mason, he's not due to arrive until the summer.) Not sure why I did not get pics of Marshall and Tressa. However, Tressa is the cutest girl. She's so tiny and sweet. Katie and I split a cheeseburger and French fries, we each got REAL fountain drinks, mine was a cherry vanilla Dr. Pepper and she got a blue raspberry soda. Mee then split an amazingly wonderful brownie sundae. Oh so delicious! ! Bill was $20.85 plus tip. They have a museum on the other side of the restaurant. I hope the pic looks okay because I used a panoramic shot. We followed up by a trip to Half Priced Books and Walmart to see my son. We also drove by the Ice Tree. Once a thing of beauty, I can say I am happy it's melting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Great article, In all seriousness, the article mentions Big Bad Wolf as the first suspended, I thought The Bat was? Secondly, I have not really noticed but KI seems to be on the forefront of roller coaster innovation. Racer, Beast, Bat, King Cobra, SOB, Banshee (any other record breakers/first of their kind/important?)3 points

That's the new Google Maps. If you're like me and still use the old version, it is still SOB. The new maps use the exact same imagery as Earth, so it makes sense it would be updated on those ones.3 points

Oh, many of us have. He can be charming, nice, fun to be with and a great guy. Then, for many, when he thinks you aren't within earshot, the personna you see on the forums comes out in full force. The pronoun you can equally refer to a friend, acquaintance, club member or park. It is both somewhat amusing and very, very sad.3 points

I just wanted to make sure there was no confusion with my post as I feel no matter the amount if someone wants to do this they should.3 points

^^So if I throw a few hundred from my checking and savings to donate to the charity, which is the primary goal, and the fact I'll probably not even stay the whole event I'm in the wrong.. I don't see your point and it's come off slightly as somewhat rude. I'm willing to fork out a lot of my check here to give to these kids, I think that's pretty noble versus going everywhere asking for money3 points

^^^^Seek help if you want to quit, I know it's hard I see it everyday at work.. Just be brutal about it with yourself, or if you need a buddy like me...I'm brutal with people trying to quit3 points

Don't just raise $100 so you can attend the event Some of us have been raising money and working our butts off since the donation page went live. Remember this is NOT about riding the coaster. It is about raising money for the kids. Riding Banshee at night is the incentive you get for your hard work.3 points

I feel the same way about Mamba. She's such an underrated coaster. That head chopper coming out of the turn around gets me every time too. I was thinking this or an actual TopSpin not that giant monstrosity we used to have.3 points

I am hoping to sign up this week. If anyone wants to donate and would like to kick off my donations by paying the $25 please feel free to helpmeet reach my goal. My name is Lora Gregory if anyone wants to help start it. To me it's not about riding earlier. This organization is truly an excellent organization to support. I strongly encourage anyone who has never been to Kings Island on a day they are hosting the A Kid Again Day to go. The people who you will meet will change your life. I think I did a topic like this once, but it's super old now so, ehh, I guess it can be left dead and discussion can go on in this one. So, which coasters that no longer exist would I want to go back and ride the most if I had a time machine? Well... Aeroplane Coaster @ Rye Playland One of the most interesting and fun looking classic wooden coasters ever built. I would love to go back and ride this one...if I could choose a particular year, I'd go back to when it was still very young and Rye Playland was at its finest. Son of Beast @ Kings Island This one's an interesting ingima, to say the least. Many considered this one of the greatest coaster failures of all time, citing the ride as insanely rough and painful. However, there were some who actually did enjoy it, making me want to ride it to see for myself if it really did suck or if it was actually good. Sadly I never got the chance...but in this scenario I would. As for what version, I'd go all the way back to the ride's debut season of 2000...for nostalgia purposes since I did visit the park as a young kid that year, and to see what the park was like from an adult's POV back then. Oh, and I'd do more than just Son of Beast: the park also had King Cobra, Phantom Theatre, Flying Eagles, Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal, Backwards Racer (recaR), and probably a few more rides that no longer exist. There was also Beast w/skid brakes and Flight of Fear w/OTSR's. All of which I would try to do on my trip. The Bat @ Kings Island Same park as the ride above...very different year and era. I would love to try the park's original suspended coaster, with it's crazy swinging, as well as experience classic Kings Island at its finest. I'd also hit up the too-many-to-list-here defunct rides that existed in 1981, as well as Beast & Racer in their prime. Though since Kings Island seemed much more crowded in the '80s, I'd have to wait more than likely...and Fast Lane didn't exist yet. Also may need to re-try this one a few times to get a day The Bat was open since it broke down a lot. Big Bad Wolf & Drachen Fire @ Busch Gardens Williamsburg Yeah, TWO coasters here, since I'd aim for a date when both were still running in their original forms (did BBW even change much though?), which would probably be the early 90's. BBW was a legendary coaster...Drachen Fire was a legendary flop. Though I would still like to try both. Texas Giant @ Six Flags Over Texas Original, not "New" version, of course. This would be a trip back to the early to mid 90's, before "The Giant" became a rough trimmed-to-death ride and a shell of its former self and was still one of the best wooden coasters in the world. Hercules @ Dorney Park Another woodie I would want to ride in its early years, since from what I have heard things went south fairly quickly with Hercules. The layout looks awesome though, and Terpy liked it. Cyclone @ Crystal Beach One of the most savage, brutal coasters ever made- I'd want to try it at least once just for that reason. Hope I don't die. Thunderbolt & Tornado @ Coney Island NYC Another two-pack: the wooden coasters at Coney Island NY that no longer exist. Tornado looks the more interesting of the two, but Thunderbolt still looks like it was fun. And I'd hit up Cyclone as well since I haven't even been to this park in real life (ditto most other parks here though). Shooting Star @ Coney Island Ohio This one is also twofold- one reason is because I want to ride the fun, uber-smooth classic wooden coaster and the other is I would also enjoy visiting Kings Island's parent park in its heyday. I'd probably go sometime in the 1950's so I could ride the Wildcat as well. Other Classic Woodies @ Various Parks There are too many to list. Way too many.2 points

I didn't take any profits for planning the KIC event for about 30-40 people, hell I even in fact took a loss.. Having fun company and a fun venue to be able to share with people should be a drive enough, maintaining a profit is not, unless the profit is to drive other events. However if there is a paid membership, there should be no reason to further extend profits unless that money does go back to the members, which I do not believe it does.2 points

Alright I was unable to find my original breakdown so I did a new one using the "Mini New Hotness Trip" they are doing this summer. The trip costs $1650 per person. You can see their flyer for the trip here. Just so we are clear here my cost breakdown is for a single person doing this same trip in the same (presumed) order on the same dates using the same types of hotels. As the flyer states that they try to stay at hotels that provide breakfast I am taking that into account as well. The trip includes stops at Kings Island, Kentucky Kingdom, Beech Bend, Holiday World, Indiana Beach, and Six Flags Great America. Here is what I came up with: Gas - $113.00 (846 miles @ $4/gallon in a vehicle getting 30 mpg) Hotels - $538 (Yes, I actually found 3 star hotels that offer breakfast within 15 miles of each park for each assumed night) Food - $240 - 2 Meals a day at $20 per meal Park tickets - $222 - Internet discounts were used Skip the line passes for KI and SFGAm - $190 est. - Prices aren't up yet for either park for 2014) All together you could due the trip for about $1300 if you went alone. Obviously prices for hotel rooms, gas, and skip the line passes could be reduced if you went with others. Based on my experience chartering buses for the church I used to work at (and a quick but admittedly less than thorough price search online) I am more than confident in saying that TPR is paying less than $113/person for transportation (just poking around and from memory I would guess its about 2/3 of that) and I would also say it is safe to assume that they are getting group rates on hotel rooms. I would also assume that they are paying less than $20/person for in-park meals. Now is and extra $350 for a t-shirt, ERT sessions, and the luxury bus worth it to some people? Probably. Is that a significant enough savings to deter others from just doing the trip on their own? Probably. (Well, actually yes, because its enough for me). All in all, while I do not know how much it costs TPR to have ERT sessions and to put together the goody bags, etc., in my estimation it is safe to say that it is costing them less than $1300/person to do the trip. I will also say that while I am a member on their boards, TPR is not an entity that I would ever give my money to. While I do enjoy member trip reports and feel that there is some good industry insight and information on the boards, I do not feel that their approach is overall a benefit to the enthusiast community. Full disclosure my problem is more about my money going to TPR than someone making a profit off of a trip like this. I certainly would want to be making something if I was coordinating a trip like this but giving them somewhere in the neighborhood of $500 to them is just not something I care to do.2 points
