Today, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Flight of Fear roller coaster was shut down after smoke was detected inside the ride. Kings Island emergency personnel responded quickly and guests were safely evacuated from the ride and returned to the park. Initial investigations indicate the smoke was caused by an overheated motor. As always, the safety of our guests and associates remains our number one priority.36 points

Today I went to Soak City for a majority of the day, headed over to the dry park later in the evening, and left when the weather came rolling in. Here are a few notes: Soak City Bathrooms. Ouch. I understand that they are difficult due to the amount of water being tracked in, but they were bad today. I don't think I have ever been to Soak City (or BB) when it was as crowded as it was today. The wave pools felt like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InENM6fwIwE#t=40 Reds HOF Grille, fantastic as always. I could spend so much time in there just looking around, and the food and service were top-notch today. Every Reds fan (or just a fan of baseball) will love that place. Cirque Imagine. Today was my first time at the park while the show was running, so I went to catch the 7:00 playing. Unfortunately it was cut short due to an injury to one of the acrobats. It occurred early on in the show, during the teeter-totter like performance. He appeared to land awkwardly upon hitting the mat, and rolled off to the side. The other performers immediately signaled to stop the show, carried him off, and the curtain closed. Obviously, I don't know the extent of the injury or all of the circumstances, but keep this young man in your thoughts and prayers that he will have a speedy recovery. Although the performance was cut short, it did look very promising and thrilling. I am interested to see it in its entirety, as well as to see if they continue the stunt on which that young man was injured. From the very short bits that I saw, it looks like KI has another winner here. Banshee grows on me more and more every time I ride it. Thanks for reading! If you have any questions for me feel free to ask em! Also, if anybody has an update on the Cirque Imagine performer, I would like to hear that as well.7 points

Thanks for the official word, Don.Glad this wasn't a "major" incident and no one got hurt. From what I've heard, things were handled very professionally.5 points

The recent removals and renovations of wooden coaster at Six Flags reminds me of another string of ride removals at a certain other Amusement Park. Say most every addition at Cedar Point from 1994-2007. While expensive and large additions may add new guests in the short term, alienating loyal fans and customers has never worked for anyone.5 points

It had been right at 3 years since the wife and I made it up to Cedar Point after going nearly every year. We left at 4:00 a.m. from Northern Kentucky and arrived at about 8:15 a.m. we sunscreened up and headed to the marina gate and waited for the Millennium Walkback. We were led back to MF right at 8:50 a.m. they took our photo as a group and sent us on our way to be on the first train of the day. We actually ended up being on the second train as we opted for the front seat. (We also did the Walkback and waited for front seat today as well) For those of you who like to refer to the ride as Millennium Forceless ride it once with a stained muscle in your back, I promise you'll feel some forces. It actually hurt quite a bit and I was fearful of the rest of the day. We walked around the park and hit various rides for the first hour until the rest opened up. We got our first ride ever on Gatekeeper. We ended up doing 4 total for the day. I think this ride is a bit under rated especially the back left seats. We had quite a bit of fun on it. The seats we comfortable and we loved the whip you get in the back. The ride is beautiful and I'm glad they did build this ride where they did. It makes that section of the park a lot more desirable. We finished out day in that area because of this. When 10:00 a.m. hit we went to TTD the line quickly hit a two hour wait. I had noticed the parking lot had a a decent amount a little before but the bus parking was completely full so when I saw the line get big that quick I decided to buy us Fast Lane plus passes. This was the first time I had ever used FL anywhere. Fast Lane alone made our trip awesome. We skipped numerous hour+ waits and were able to take our time and do what we want. They were $80 each. It was nice to be on the other side of the fence and the grass was definitely greener. At 1:00 p.m. we went to check in at Sandcastle Suites. I liked that the room was clean and close to the park with shuttle service. That however is as far as I can go with what I liked about it. The bed was pretty uncomfortable and the place had a pretty bad smell to it. We went to the pool to swim and use the hot tub to give my back some relief. We got as far as putting our feet in the water and deciding to leave. The water was nasty with a terrible odor. We took up the offer we recieved of ten dollar entry to Castaways Bay. Both the wife and I loved the little waterpark she wants to stay there next time which we may do. At 4:00 p.m. we headed back to the park and blasted through the entire park with our awesome FL passes. We indulged in some funnel cake and Pinks both awesome. I won the wife a Finn from Adventure time and we rode the smaller rides near the front of the park. Some of the rides in that area were down due to higher winds at the end of the night but that's okay by me we had rode them earlier. Our count for Saturday: Gatekeeper 4x TTD 1 MF 2x Maverick 3x Gemini 1 Pipe Scream 1 Raptor 2x WindSeeker 1 Magnum 1 Skyhawk 2x Mantis 1 Power Tower 4x Maxair 1 We also did most all of the flats. Today we went in for an hour and rode a few things before heading out to head home. We got two more rides and Gatekeeper. We are now home and due to my back I can hardly move. I highly recommend Fast Lane if it's a crowded day and you have limited time, well worth the money. Millennium Walkback Pulling up to the park. Our anniversary is Tuesday. It was closed by the time we got there. We were sad. She got the chili dog I got the Monster Dog.4 points

Yeah I paid 85 so if I go 10 times and buy a meal it will only be 8.50$ per meal. To e honest I am off all summer and Ki is the same distance to a local park so my little guy and I will probably be going more than 2 times per week Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

102 foot tall coaster? Please, no. I want something bigger. Bigger isn't always better.4 points
-
Harsh much? You're allowed to feel sympathy for the victims while also wondering when the ride will open. Wondering about one doesn't negate the other.4 points
-
Probably not.It is not impossible to re-open today, but it is highly unlikely. There is wiring to/ from the motor most likely burned which will need replaced & the motor most likely needs replaced which will take time to do if one is on hand. I would expect FoF to be down for at least a week. In addition: it is also likely FoF will need another testing period required by DoA.4 points

Would I love to see Disney make all of these additions to their parks? Yes. Do I think they will in the near future? No. Why? Disney knows their target market, families with younger children, and they honestly do a stellar job of catering to that market. Disney knows that creating a meet and greet like Anna and Elsa from Frozen is considered by families a Major Attraction. A simple Meet and Greet like this is generating 4 and 5 hour waits almost daily at the Magic Kingdom. The new Fantasyland expansion is aimed solely at young families not coaster or thrill ride enthusiasts. Universal is looking to position themselves towards families with older kids/teens looking for more thrilling attractions and who could care less meeting characters and such. I know from my own personal experience my 7 year old daughter who has seen all the Harry Potter movies has no interest in those rides or attractions. Yet talk to her about 7 Dwarfs Mine Train or meeting Anna and Elsa and those are two things she can't wait to do in December. As she gets older and reads the Potter books, she may become more excited, but for now Universal offers very little for her. As a younger coaster/park enthusiasts I never cared for Disney Word and absolutely loved Universal/IOA. As I grew older and started our family, it took only one trip to a Disney park to get it. Our first visit to Universal as a family is down the road, but for now Disney does and offers what we love. I am not defending Disney because I think certain aspects of their parks could use some much needed attention, but at the same time I don't think us as a group of enthusiasts is the best or most qualified to bemoan the decisions Disney makes in regards to their parks. We are not their target market.4 points

After my two Vekoma SLC experiences (at Darien Lake and then Canada's Wonderland) my sample so far indicates that they range from "moderately unpleasant, but borderline rideable" to "Oh God, Oh God, we're all gonna die". I will probably go to ride T3 when it opens. I hope that it skews my sample in a good way. I'm not holding my breath on it. And yes, I did reference the finest show in the history of television in this post. Thank you for noticing.4 points

First time riding since media day and WOW! It seem much faster! Much better ride today than media day. Plus i got this sweet photo with a nasty storm moving in! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

In previous years, people wouldn't hog the front seat. I'd usually wait until towards the end of the event to go in the front, and after that around every 5 laps or so, see if anyone wanted the front, and most of the time nobody did, but when they would I would just get another seat. And nobody dared to hog the back seat on The Racer.3 points

And where will the finances come from? Ed Hart does not strike me as the type who is willing to spend that type of capital out of his own pocket for that .... Plus there is no proof that the park will make enough money this year to guarantee operating next a year... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

Yep, it was open Halloween night in 2008 & 2009. I remember specifically because those were my first two years working Haunt, and I had to miss out on trick or treating with GatorGirl (who was 4 and 5 years old then) those nights. I also went as a guest on Halloween night 2007, which was a Bare Bones night. After we had gotten back from trick or treating and GatorGirl was in bed, I went up to the park to get one last Beast ride in for the year. That was the last day the park was open that season, and with it being a Bare Bones night... and a Wednesday... that season seemed to go out with a whimper. Everywhere I've lived in the Cincinnati area, it's been on Halloween night too. For KI? No its not. It's been open on Halloween before. It was? I didnt see it last year...EDIT: This site says that its the first time Halloween Haunt is on Halloween, http://hubki.wordpress.com/crowd-calendar/ Not only did that website get it wrong about Haunt never being open on Halloween before, but they also say that one of the worst times to visit is "Friday Halloween Haunts". In actuality, Haunt Fridays generally have smaller crowds than Haunt Saturdays. They also don't have November 1st & 2nd listed. As far as crowds, who knows, but I think Halloween night might not be too bad. I don't remember specifically how they were in '08 & '09, but with other things going on like trick or treating and parties, that may keep people away, only to visit the following night?3 points

DB is a great ride, but it doesn't hold up against Maggie IMO, way different experiences. Ride ejector seat one time, you'll love every second of it.3 points

June 1 - I have zero will power. We arrived at the park about 5:15 and it was busy, but manageable. Before we got in the front gates, we ran into Melanie and Melissa. Melissa had no idea we were going to be there (it's likely she's the only one who would be shocked about us showing up.) They tell us that Brad and his son are over by Beast. So while we are in that area, we ride Beast. We only waited about 20 minutes which was not horrible. We went to BBOBH because my daughters purpose at Kings Island is to beat Zach's score. It's not happened yet. Once we exited the ride, Andrew met up with us and Brad and his son were going to go home after a ride or two. The group of us made our way to Cirque Imagine. As the clowns descended to the auditorium, one sat right behind my daughter (who knew where they would drop down so she could get a selfie with one of them - again.) Sadly, this young man was injured to some degree and they stopped the show. I hate seeing a performance stopped for any reason. It shows that they really are doing stunts that can really hurt them. Hope he has a speedy recovery. Just a few other shots from the show. I really enjoy this show. We rode Banshee, Racer, Dodgem - and then it started to lightening so all rides were shut down. We ended the night by having two back to back rides on Beast and got to see the fireworks from Banshee. For a short visit, it was eventful. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk3 points

We're heading up Thursday, go to the park until closing. Friday Coastermania, and then ERT Saturday morning. Head for Mason after that, then KI Sunday. Should be a great way to mark my 50th birthday, if I can get Monday off anyway. * We consisting of myself, the Mrs, and UnrealNightmare.3 points

I'm not sure what this will mean for the show. Their normal off day is Monday, so don't freak out when it's not playing tomorrow. I've heard nothing to imply that shows will be canceled. Clearly something will have to be reworked.Definitely check out the show again. You have yet to see some of the best parts!3 points

The problem is they're saying the spans "was" demolished instead of "were" demolished. Again, I realize Dayton isn't a huge news market, but you'd still think they could catch simple grammatical errors like that.3 points

^ Each bridge has multiple supports. A "span" in this sense is a section of bridge between two supports, not the entire bridge across the valley.3 points

The El toro is a pure wooden roller-coaster. The way it was manufactured tho is different. the track itself was prefabricated, by taking wood thin wood layers and tightly comdensing them together making it very strong and being molded into whatever shape needed, making very smooth transitions. it uses the same steel strips mounts that the trains wheels ride along like any other true wooden coaster. ie The Beast, The Racer, ect.. This isn't the case for RMC type coasters., they use steel as the primary track with wood supporting it.3 points
