Hey all, I went to Kentucky Kingdom for a few hours yesterday and had a blast. Before I tell you how the trip went, I’m going to share a short back story. This trip was originally scheduled for this Monday, but it was raining, therefore I ended up going yesterday (Friday). Here’s what went on: I got to the park a little after 11 and noticed the rides and the barbed wire fencing on the way in. Since I had bought a ticket online, I asked the lady at the ticket counter if it should be redeemed for a “proper” ticket, but she said that they could just scan that (she was really nice, by the way), which they did. Once inside the park, I grabbed two park maps and walked around a bit. I had pre-planned to get a locker near Tornado (a waterslide in the waterpark almost identical to Mondo Monsoon at KI), which was close to the center of the park (at least in my mind). Doing this meant I didn’t have to walk all the way to the front to get my stuff or change. Before I go on, it is important to note that the park’s layout is unusual as you have a highway dividing the park and you have to take a bridge to get from one side (where Lightning Run, thrill rides and the kids area are located) to the other (where the waterpark, a water ride, Thunder Run and other rides are located). Upon getting a locker, I found that the locker system is amazing. You pay to get a wristband that automatically assigns you a locker. Everytime you need to open the locker, you just scan your wristband at the correct station (as in, the one you bought the locker from- trust me, I tried) and your locker automatically opens. No password to remember or anything- it’s great! So, after this awesomeness, I decided to make Thunder Run my first ride of the day. I sat towards the front and had a great ride. It had some cool airtime and unexpected twists and turns and I reminded myself to ride in the back later. After this, I decided to ride the Flying Dutchman as I knew it used to belong to Kings Island back in the day. It was an ok ride and reminded me a bit of WindSeeker, except it was more like 30 feet up instead of 300. The only problem was that it had a super abrupt start and the lowering of the shoes looked abrupt as well, but surprisingly felt OK. After this, I was going to ride Mile High Falls since I was in the area (it’s in the back of the park), but another guest told me that sitting in the back would get me the wettest (as I wanted to sit in the back, thinking I’d get the least wet) but I didn’t feel like getting wet. I instead went over to the other side of the park to ride Lightning Run. So, a little backstory with this: about a month before the trip, I noticed I had been gaining some weight and I heard that lots of people were getting Walks of Shame. So, I decided to start eating better and worked out (mind you, the working out only lasted for a week)and ended up losing 5.5 pounds! So, before I got in line, I tested the test seat and got a green light, which meant I passed with flying colors! J The line itself was the longest I had waited so far (as they were only running one train), but the line didn’t take a terribly long time. Once in the station, I noticed the trains reminded me a bit of Millennium Force as they sort-of have raised seats. I sat closer to the back and had a blast! The first half of the ride was good, but that last half was like a mini-Maverick! There was so much airtime and sharp turns in that section that it was insane! It wasn’t the best coaster I’ve been on, but it sure was a lot of fun! After riding the lightning, I decided to try FearFall. The entrance was really hard to find, but once I found it, I got on the second cycle after entering. The first thing I noticed was that besides the restraint, there are no real places to hold on. Also, there is a roof above the carriage, so there is no way to know when you will drop and it really caught me off guard! One minute, I’m talking to the guy next to me, the next, we’re freefalling! So, after that, I decided to enjoy the 5-D Cinema. Today, it was playing a 3D movie using characters from the movie Rio. Before I get to the movie itself, I’d like to say that the entrance to this attraction was also difficult to find. I waited in line a bit before moving to an indoor pre-show area. The pre-show was interesting and had great music, but seemed to end abruptly. The attraction itself was just meh. Although the moving seats were awesome, it’s like they built the movie to showcase the seat’s abilities and deliberately put it into situations where it would be used. In this way, it was also sort-of random. Put another way, the Spongebob movie included you, and therefore made sense that the seats would react when you were riding the bubble bike or in the final scene with Spongebob and Patrick when Plankton’s robot is attempting to slice at your face. In this movie, it felt you were just watching the action with really cool moving seats. In other words, you felt disconnected from the action or movie. After the underwhelming movie, I decided to take a spin on the nearby Himalaya. I quickly found that I should have chosen the outer seat as forces were pushing me down and to the left (towards the outer seat), but it was definitely an interesting ride. After this, I headed to the other side of the park to change and take in the water park. Although I really wanted to do Deep Water Dive, I also wanted to ease myself into the water by getting on some other slides before tackling the big one. After briefly walking into the wave pool, I decided to try Deluge, which is the park’s water coaster (as in, a water slide with launched hills). There was hardly any line, but unfortunately, I had to get off because it was suddenly down for mechanical problems with the lift. With Deluge down, I decided to wander over to Mega Wedgie, a bowl slide that turned out to be pretty fun. Before I go any further, I’d like to say that I admire the fact that most of the water park attractions allow single rider tubes (as well as double rider tubes), which I as a single rider really appreciate. After this, I decided to tackle Waikiki Wipeout, which is a crazy looking slide that has 3-mini versions of Mondo Monsoon’s giant funnel. It’s pretty crazy and was definitely something different. After this, I finally decided to conquer Deep Water Dive. Now, I’d never been on a water slide with a capsule drop before, so this was all new to me. Basically, you get in a capsule and the door shuts. After a countdown, the floor drops out from under you and you go down the slide. After climbing 6+ feet of stairs (I only know this because there was a sign that said it was 6 flights up from the lower slide on the 2-slide complex), I finally made it to the top. It seemed everyone up there was in panic mode (except for the lifeguard, he was actually pretty chill) as would-be riders were terrified by this ride. I volunteered to go ahead of everyone as the other riders were all nervous and scared. I got freaked out a bit too when I thought the capsule’s hole that I’d be going through was smaller than it really was and I didn’t know where to put my feet. Nevertheless, I was the only brave soul that marched on and took the plunge. It was great!!!! I ended up having a huge wedgie afterwards and my body was shaking from the awesomeness, but I did it!!! J Along with Lightning and Thunder Run, DWD was one of the three rides I really wanted to do on this trip, my “Big 3” if you will. After this awesomeness, I decided to try again on Deluge. I waited a bit longer than my last attempt, but I actually made it this time. It was pretty cool as I got a ton of airtime on the drops and the launched hills gave it even more airtime. After that awesomeness, I decided to change and head out of the waterpark as I was starting to get cold. By this time, the temperature had dropped a bit and it had started sprinkling a bit. After changing, I decided to try again on Mile High Falls, simply because I was already wet. For those unfamiliar, this is essentially a taller version of Congo Falls with a straighter drop (Congo has a double drop). I ended up getting the second row (which I thought was the front row until some people had the row next to me, which was really the front row) and got soaked. I thought that the way I got wet was interesting, because it felt like the wave came down in sheets rather than just one big wave (it was like splash-pause-splash-pause-splash). After this, I decided to hit up Thunder Run again, this time in the back. It was a longer wait than this morning, but it was worth it. It was pretty insane back there with all the airtime and being thrown around and whatnot, but it was still good. After this, I had a pulled pork sandwich, some fries and a Sprite at Junior’s BBQ. The food was OK, the man serving up my sandwich and fries was very polite, and I admire that he referred to me as “sir” multiple times. Kudos to you, man who served my food! So, after that, I started to get in line for Tin Lizzies, but didn’t really want to wait and called my ride to let him know I was ready to be picked up. Overall, I had a great day, but might have gotten a few more rides in (Breakdance, Tin Lizzies, another on Himalaya and another on Lightning Run) if I would have stayed longer. To close, I’d like to make a few (mostly good) overall comments about the park in general. First, I enjoyed how friendly most employees were and saw employees stationed at many points along the midway (as well as safety officers) to assist guests as needed. I also enjoyed the park’s music; apparently they have their own radio station, which played country and rock music. When I got to Mile High and Thunder Run (the 2nd time), I also heard familiar songs like “Rude” by Magic and “Latch” by Disclosure, though I think those were from a different radio station. Also, for the most part, the people were somewhat friendly and a guest helped me find Mile High Fall’s entrance as I must have appeared to be lost. This also leads me into my main negative point against the park: ride entrances/confusing layouts. As noted previously, FearFall, Mile High Falls, and the 5-D cinema had entrances that were hard to find. FearFall was especially interesting as I saw people queued what appeared to be behind a gate, but I couldn’t see anything except for a food patio which looked like it had dead-ended at a point (it turns out their pirate ship, Bluebeard’s Bounty was back there too…). The water park was a little difficult to navigate as well as I had trouble finding Deluge’s entrance on my first attempt and couldn’t figure out how to get to the Hurricane Bay Beach Club (the 2nd part of the water park, where Deep Water Dive and Waikiki Wipeout were). I think it might benefit the park to put more signage near places where guests might get lost or confused. A good example of this was that there was a Thunder Run sign above where the ride’s entrance and exit were (but then again, Thunder Run was a little hard to find too…). Although that path used to also take patrons to Twisted Twins, it is now a dead end and people might see it as such (as in, there’s nothing over there). Along the same lines of confusing layouts, it was only in the process of writing this trip report last night that I realized I had missed the Bumper Cars (and apparently, a lot of the midway games) completely because I didn’t venture to the right of the 5-D theatre and Himalaya. That being said, I do feel good about the future of Kentucky Kingdom and really want it to succeed. If I lived closer I’d probably go more often, but because I live a few hours away, this might be my one and only trip this summer. So, as a closing statement, I give you a picture of Lightning Run with a tree in the way (this was taken from the bridge that separates the park). Highlights: Thunder Run, Deep Water Dive, Lightning Run, Waikiki Wipeout, the locker system Ride Count: 5-D Cinema (Rio): 1 Deep Water Dive: 1 Deluge Water Coaster: 1 FearFall: 1 Flying Dutchman: 1 Himalaya: 1 Lightning Run: 1 Mega Wedgie: 1 Mile High Falls: 1 Thunder Run: 2 Waikiki Wipeout: 1 -MDMC01 Edit: I apologize that the picture is really small; I couldn't make it much bigger without it becoming blurry.7 points

When I was riding The Bat, a guy mentioned to his girlfriend that he wondered why they decided to rebrand it as The Bat. I could tell from inflection he seemed to be wondering "why the name of a previously failed ride" more than "why rename it?" The self-assured know-it-all in front of him apparently missed that in his excitement to be able to show off his "knowledge." He turned and said "it's because Paramount sold the park, so they couldn't call it Top Gun anymore." Neither I, nor the guy he was "explaining" to cared enough to correct him about the Flight Deck years.6 points

Its been many years since my last PTR mainly because of all the work involved, but here it goes. Last week we took advantage of the 4th of July holiday, and started our East Coaster trip. Our crew included My wife, Teenage Son and Tween daughter. I did not take as many pictures as usual, since we were trying to hit as much as possible Day 1 July 5 Busch Gardens Williamsburg The Park The day was great, sunny and not too hot. The parking lot was a little strange where you had to cross the incoming traffic to get to the park entrance. The entryway was gorgeous, as is the whole park. Lots of mature trees and shade. We went through England, took a left and headed immediately to Festa Italia for the first coaster of the trip The fun begins here The rides Apollos Chariot. B&M hypercoaster was a very fun ride. Son's favorite. Unlike Diamondback it has a 52 inch height limit. Alpengeist. B%M Inverted. This was a good ride too. Skis were built into the supports on the back of the seats, like they were ment to be there. In addition a G-meter was placed on the seat in front of us which added to the effect. Curse of Darkastle. Not surprisingly a Dark ride. Cool effects, but the line got really long towards the end of the day. Verbolten. Great launch coaster. Favorite in the park with an interesting effect in the middle of the ride. The ride stopped for 10 minutes at one point, and with half the people looking at their phones. After it started, A guy ended up dropping his Iphone at the brake run. Lochness monster. This older looping coaster was a head banger. Griffon, dive coaster. Similar to the one at BGT Escape from Pompeii is a big wave water ride. Unfortunately the fire effect inside the ride heated you up more than the splash at the end. We also enjoyed Le Scoot, Europe In The Air (simulator), and Mach Tower(Drop Tower). The shows Our usual M.O. was to hit the shows during the heat of the day before returning to the rides. The shows at busch gardens were the best of the trip. Mix it Up. This is a chef themed percussion and marching band show that was really really well done. More Pet Shenanigans. Similar to any rescue pet show like the one at the Columbus zoo. This is Oktoberfest. This was a German dance/ music show in their Festhaus (which actually serves good German food) and encouraged audience participation which included embarrassing our too cool teenage son. Final thoughts IN the afternoon, the park got super crowded. Even with the crowds, the food service was quick, and the rides ops kept things moving. No major downtime either. People were staking out their location for the big fireworks show. the bridges to and from Italy had marked standing and moving areas. We watched the fireworks from the parking lot, which actually had a great picnic area. Day 2 Colonial Williamsburg My youngest just finished a unit on williamsburg, so we had to do this. If you are a history buff (like me), this is for you. To walk around the town is free, but if you want to see some of the re-enactors, you have to buy a pass. I really liked the fact that the did not shy away from the slavery issue. Be warned that there are not to many snack options in the area, and the re-enactors are done by 5pm. One great thing they did was to hide all the vending machines in barns and other small buildings with just period signs directing you. Day 3 Kings Dominion The park Sister park to the Island, you come right off the highway to see the Eiffel Tower. I had been there once a few years ago, but my fam had not. The park is half well shaded, but has a more confusing layout. We took the preferred parking where you scan your receipt to open the automatic gate. This was actually a waste since the park was dead this day. We had a lot of sun, but it was not too hot. Love this eatery name The rides Dominator, a Big Looping B&M coaster. A smooth and big fun coaster. This was the son's favorite. Intimidator 305. Similar to Millennium Force. When I rode it last, there were brakes on the first drop. Since then the turn at the bottom was re-profiled. Now we all got tunnel vision before that first high speed turn is done. This is my best of the park. The ride ops were fast, but not very attentive to height checks. Volcano - launched suspended coaster. great ride launching out of the volcano. Even with the park being empty, there was a wait. I think they need to look at the loading sequence. Woodstock express Similar to The Beastie Shockwave - Togo standup similar but different from the King. Not a comfortable ride Avalanche - Toboggan coaster. I liked this ride and it was my girl's favorite. WindSeeker-Like the one at Kings Island. We got a kick out of the choice of music as we were riding-The theme to Star Trek: the Next Generation. The Crypt - Smaller than the one you may be familiar with, but still running outside with fire and water effects. Ricochet - wild mouse Rebel Yell - Classic similar to The Racer Grizzley - Their classic woodie. Who decide to hide the entry to the queue behind the Dino's Alive gift shop. I never saw a sign to go through that shop. Berserker - a swinging ship that goes upside down. Thumbs up from the son Backlot Stunt Coaster - You know this one Anaconda - Head banging arrow looper, not liked by any of us. Waterworks - Overall the waterpark seems small with few rides and a poor streached out layout. And that bridge is REALLY hot on the feet. Boo Blasters - Same ride as at KI, but the ride vehicals are completely different. YOu have two rows of two seats like the typical shoot them up ride. The vehicle absolutely looks like a van with the initials MM. The "SD" on the spare tire in front is replaced by a "BB" avalanche with volcano Snoopy has a nice driving school The shows All wheel sports show - This stunt show is almost the same as the one we saw at Cedar Point a couple of years ago. Including the surprise. Dominion at Dusk - I was expecting a Ignight type show, but instead it was just some singers with some pop hits and a little dancing in front of the tower Singing Mushrooms - we had to see the short show since it was advertised so many times in the que line TV It runs every 15 minutes or so. Final thoughts Overall great rides, good employees. Just seems to need a little polish. I remembered the food was not too good last time, but we were surprised at the quality. (Shrimp Po boy at Outer Hanks. Yum Yum) We watched the fireworks from the parking lot.5 points

Well, to be fair, there are currently two coasters named "The Racer". One is in West Mifflin, PA and opened in 1927. Then a few (by which I mean almost 50...) years later, they built the other currently operating Racer at Kings Island. That MUST be what he meant, right?5 points

The band organ sounds fantastic. I've heard recordings, but the real thing is just so much better. You can hear it with your own ears and see it with your own eyes. It still needs a bit of cosmetic work to be fully back to its original glory, but hey, baby steps. I'll take this as a massive win for now. But I do hope it gets the cosmetic TLC it deserves as well. I think for celebration, it's time to dust off this old girl! Admit it, you're jealous. Coincidentally, if anyone knows where I might find the other LP they made of our beautiful Wurlitzer 157, I'd love to own that one too.5 points

The parks are definitely cracking down on on-ride photography. My friend was terminated from KI after the administration found an on-ride photo selfie on his Facebook while he was there on his own personal time. Cedar Point and KI ride ops have been very vocal about it this year.5 points

Just because it'll be the world's first doesn't rule out a Dive Machine. Think of an Invert Dive Machine. Or Wing Rider Dive Machine. How about a Stand-Up Dive Machine? Or a launched one. The possibilities are endless. Hmm. The forums say that I liked this post, yet I do not remember clicking the like button. And logically, given my experience on ShieKra, there is no reason why I would want to like that post. Unfortunately, the forums do not permit unliking a post after you've left the page. I went down to Kings Island with my brother today, and it was a beautiful day at the park. It was one of my favorite trips in a like time! It felt like forever since I had been there and it was a great day to visit, especially since we left before the rain got here. Here are a few notes: The band organ on the Grand Carousel. Wow. What an improvement! I never got to experience the organ before it was removed, and I can see why you all wanted it back so badly. The sound is crisp and clean, and it just feels right. I loved hearing that while riding. Well done for Kings Island indeed. I saw the Kings Island 5 for the first time today. Another success for the park. That was probably the highlight of my day. They were so peppy and upbeat, and they all sounded phenomenal. The cars on Shake, Rattle, & Roll were being taken off the ride today. They were stacked near the queue when I left the park, so I don't know if they were reattached or not. Drop Tower no longer plays Van Halen in the queue because of the FunTV. That was disappointing. During ERT, we were on Drop Tower when the national anthem was playing. Is there any way the ERT rides could be closed during the national anthem out of respect? I went through Dinosaurs Alive! for the first time today. I had been through Cedar Point's and Kings Island's was similar. A nice break from the park though! The Reds HOF Grille was fantastic as always. Maybe I'm just getting older, but is Flight of Fear more rough than in the past? It was nearly unbearable this morning in terms of shaking and rattling and whatnot, not to mention the lap bar tightened another notch twice during the ride. I found myself not enjoying that ride at all today. I had the push-up fudge things today for the first time today. I had the blue ice cream, chocolate, and peanut butter, and enjoyed all of them. Is the creamsicle flavor good as well? I noticed that Banshee had a rattle to it today, specifically in the blue train. Is that the train that has given everyone else problems? The construction of the building near The Beast was in full swing today, and that is a large building. I'm excited to see what goes in there. Thanks for reading! In theory, any offset between the standing heartline and the sitting heartline could be fixed by having a taller chassis so that the seats sit higher than the standard floorless trains' seats. Of course, any change in trains will require a change to the station, which I imagine would be a significant cost. I don't know if the price would be low enough for the park to want to do all that to an 18 year-old coaster that seems to work well enough and be popular enough as it is. EDIT: Not to mention that the weight of the train would ideally (and probably should) be close to the weight of the stand-up trains, as the weight will affect the support structure, braking configuration, minimum operating temperature, minimum number of riders required to send a train, and overall service life of the ride.3 points

The right stuff? That mothers can nurse anywhere provided they "use discretion"? That's the right stuff? If it was, why did the park remove the Facebook post? Perhaps because it wasn't the right stuff? And why did the park terminate the employee involved? Terp, who likes to ask questions.3 points

Depending on crowds, of course, but if you hit the line for The Beast a little before 9, you can probably get a ride in on it then make it back to Banshee before they break the line off. Of course, the time I tried this myself, crowds were lower than I expected and I got a sunset ride on Beast instead, but that was beautiful as well. I personally don't find Banshee at night as special as Beast at night, so if you can only do one, I'd suggest the latter.3 points

Thanks for your report! As for ERT and National Anthem, it is possible to close the rides during the National Anthem out of respect, but 99% of the time, the rides are already mid-cycle when the National Anthem starts. They could close the rides a few minutes prior to the National Anthem starting, but then there would be guests angry that the now 1/2 hour ERT session has been cut down to 20 minutes, or whatever it'd end up being. I personally am fine for the rides to be going for several reasons, one being that not everyone is patriotic and it may not be their personal choice to stand and listen to the performer (it's their personal Freedom). But at the same time, it irritates me when people run by during the singing to get to a ride first after ERT is over. Not to mention, the National Anthem can be heard all the way out in the parking lot, but the park doesn't stop traffic from coming in, to observe the singing. It's a great thought, but in my opinion, it'd be harder to deal with, the stopping of running rides during the singing than to just let it go as it has been. As for the Fudge Pops, the Creamsicle one is pretty good! I'm currently eating the Blue Ice Cream one. I've noticed the rattle on Banshee too, but toward the back. My thought, wheels need changed.3 points

KK posts on their FB what the rule is, which was exactly what she wanted. She's still not happy. Ed Hart calls her and apologizes and said he wanted to add more rocking chairs to the nursing areas. She wants to make it clear that she can do whatever she wants when it comes to this so she's seemingly "offended" by this statement.
