  1. They are obviously using the crane to hang Christmas lights...

  2. The mega loops are fun rides I find it funny to see everyone complain about them. Carnival ride or not who cares as long as it is a fun ride? Enthusiasts complain about the dumbest things at times.

  3. And again, Cedar Point's Gemini midway was a GREAT little refurb / rebuild of a small section of midway. We have an entire historic family midway themed LAND that deserves that overlay. All of Coney Mall should be strung up with popcorn lights and trees and new, matching classic white lighting packages on ALL the flats and Racer, new "retro" signs and shades and marquees like Gemini midway, etc. Sure, having a little section near SR&R given that style would be nice. But all of Coney Mall deserves it, and it would be CRAZY cool for them to do that.

  4. I'd rather build from the ground up. Like what Silver Dollar City did.

  5. Well the logical answer is they are removing the ride! Also had to get rid of Shake Rattle and Roll because it is affected by Vortex's sinking... Now don't even get me started on the Arcade in the Coney Mall area! Note: this was a high level of sarcasm.

  6. Big Bundle of Nope. The Racer, in its form was the powder keg of the nex gen coaster age. The Beast, in its form, is the longest wooden coaster. If RMC gives it some "love" we will not have any kind of woodie coaster. Woodies are starting to disappear from a chain already, don't let it spread.

  7. What really bothers me is why do people have to hate/bash another person for being different? So what a guy like/loves a guy or a girl likes/loves a girl! Why must some people be so aggressive and negative to someone that is gay, bisexual, or transsexual? Next thing is why is marriage of the same gender such a terrible thing too!? why not let two people be happy together? Why do parents kick out their "sinful" children for liking the same sex? If you ask me, it's all stupid and pointless! Let people be happy! That's all they want too! How would you like it if I came up to you and started preaching to you and saying your going to hell, just because your with the person you love or you are being your true self? If you ask me, it should be an amendment, to allow anyone to marry the same sex in all 50 states in the USA! Also I think their should be laws against getting rid of your child because of who they like!

  8. For the Island seemed to remember a Sponge Bob Car wash/ tique type ride, and the other thoughts above were awesome of what could have been. I know right now Disney is trying to get Marvel, and Star Wars in the parks, so awesome! But yes this over Son of Beast would rocked:

  9. A big take away from this is to enjoy the parks while we can. CF seems to be entering a golden time for the parks. An emphasis on the past while building strong park portfolios. Creating parks to cater to families and thrill seekers both. No one really knows just how long this era will last and what will happen afterwards. I hadn't really been back to KI since the CBS days and this year I have noticed a genuine improvement of the park. It's a place I'm happy to take my son.

  10. The truth is that Oktoberfest and Coney Mall both need a little attention. I'd love to see The Racer painted red, white, and blue again. The coaster that brought back coasters deserves a little more respect.

  11. I find this contraption to be boring, but I'm glad you had fun! At 0:53, it takes a true Star Wars geek to spontaneously say Y-wing instead of X-wing. And the TIE fighter sounds were cool! I never thought of pretending that those handles were fighter yokes.

  12. ^As many states who passed amendments banning gay marriage are now finding out those protections are already there. I feel like the states that passed the ban have done more to progress the fight for the equality they intended to withhold. It's time is near but one or possibly two more elections could damage the strides made in recent years.

  13. A Drop Zone like Kentucky Kingdom's Hellevator. Canceled. The Rye Aeroplane Coaster. Canceled. Son of Beast built instead. Hurler. Originally planned where the Antique Cars were. Canceled. Adams Family Coaster. CBS'd. Train taken out. Cedar Fair canceled that dumb plan. Flight of Fear rotated to Carowinds or Canada's Wonderland. Also saved by Cedar Fair. Batwing at SFA was meant for KI. Paramount Parks passed after seeing how Stealth worked. The latter was moved to Carowinds to make way for a waterpark expansion in California. Year around International Street shopping and restaurants. Never happened.

  14. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CIBcmJzr-s&feature=youtu.be Today Slingshot was only $5. My mom and I decided it was finally time to give it a go. My mom is an absolute hoot on these things. Please try to ignore me making T.I.E. Fighter noises at the end. I didn't realize the video would have sound.

  15. Not Paramount. CBS. Their ultimate goal was to save their way to prosperity and sell out for a King's ransom. Worked, too.

  16. That would be an EPIC win in my eyes! Id so Love that ride then, even if they do end up painting and naming it after LeCramp.

  17. I don't see Cedar Fair working with RMC anytime soon, nor do I want them too. Keep the wooden coasters wooden. Keep the steel, steel. I am guessing a Floorless Conversion on Mantis. If anything I've heard from a source in the park, whether true or not, Mantis will be closed after Labor Day. I can also see a Dark Ride happening finally.

  18. Agreed they are both great as they are and have some great properties and significance to them as wooden coasters. I wouldn't mind seeing a newly built RMC hybrid coaster but would want them to keep our current woodies as is.

  22. If the ride wasn't going to re-open today, wouldn't they let everyone know at the park entrance like they typically do? Also, there are ride ops in the station. More and more keep arriving. There are now five ride ops at the entrance. I'm hopeful. Edit: they got a cooler of ice water. How could they not re-open if they need to get a cooler of ice water? 24. Yes, I would like to see a prefab as well. I have never ridden one myself. The only thing that concerns me with FUN about that is "Intamin Coaster" which they don't seem to be doing a lot of business with right now...

  25. Comparing Six and FUN and assuming we will never see a traditional woddie again is kind of silly. It seems SIX is happy and has a good thing going with their hybrids . Plus, just maybe they had a contract with that company for so many? On the FUN side of things, look at Gold Striker just last season.

  26. I agree that all of Coney Mall deserves a makeover. It's just that the far end makes me incredibly sad with all the empty flat ride spots. At least on the other end there are games, shops, and classic rides.

  27. Only a week away now starting to get excited. This trip is becoming a tradition now. Had 5 going this year from East Tennessee now down to the original 3. Staying at the Kings Island Resort that evening then heading up to Sandusky Saturday and Cedar Point on Sunday (sadly private events ruined CP Saturday). So I would like to pose a question anyone else here going up to Cedar Point that weekend? If so anyone interested in pulling together funds and stay at Kalahari, losing the 2 other members of the trip staying there has become a bit unfeasible cost wise. Laid back crew here message me if it might be something you're interested in.

  29. You need a "neither" option on the last question, otherwise nobody can answer the poll questions without saying one of them will go hybrid (you cannot answer one question without answering all questions). EDIT: As well as a "no" option on the first. After the SOB debacle, KI may very well never touch wood again for new coasters.

  30. I still think Coney Mall needs attention, especially around SR&R. Look at Cedar Point and Knott's recent midway work and lighting packages. The pavers were a great step forward when they were installed, now we need to reach the next level.

  33. Aight time for answers CP Gay Day is unofficial and is indeed on farthers day and is during public operation(though I'm actually thinking about making a committee and making a pride night for CP) KI pride night USE to be unofficial and during public operation, this was changed many years back and is now held as a private event on a bought out day in September. If this is your first time visiting KI Pride Night, it is a very nice night to go, you'll meet wonderful people, wait times are nearly non-existant, you don't have to worry about being judged for being openly gay since the park is closed to the general public. Yes anyone can attend, all you have to do is purchase a Pride Night Ticket, season pass nor a regular ticket will gain you entry to the event. The ticket sales go to the Cincy GLBT center and from there covers the costs of next year Pride night + center costs KI will REMOVE protesters and people looking to ruin our night. We haven't had much trouble except for 1 year when a group of people from a church gained entry to the park and were handing out pamphlets(which is actually against KI rules) and they were ejected from the park in a timely matter. List of things that go on Pride Night that don't go on Normal operating days. Drag queen show in the festhaus Music blasted throughout the park on all speakers(usually a DJ does this, its usually techno gay club mixes) Eiffel Tower lit up in rainbow. Water Park & Kids Area & Dinosaurs Alive are closed The park is open til midnight(I'm making a suggestion to extend this to 2am) Karaoke in the festhaus(this has happened off n on from year to year) Rainbow Flags everywhere Openly display about your sexual orientation without the fear of being ridiculed Drag queens riding rollercoasters

  35. That was the first thing I noticed about the track length. Ride time as well... It scared me at first as I thought it might rival The Beast. Ha ha. It doesn't. Although in fun...it might. Not at night though. Even having never rode it obviously. Or...Holiday Rode it... Holiday ro-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o Holiday r-o-o-o-o-o-oad.

  36. Been checking Living Social and Groupon quite often the past couple months if I could change my dates it would be great. So now looking at plan b and possibly even c. So I pose this, anyone here stay at Maui Sands and is the water park worth the extra money? That or would be staying in Port Clinton and ferrying over to Put In Bay for about 4.5 hours worth the extra drive to Cedar Point in the morning? What would you all do?

  37. LivingSocial has a voucher to make it relatively cheap, but Saturday night is sold out. I bought a voucher for Friday night, but that wouldn't be very helpful for your trip. You could keep reloading the page to see if more Saturday night vouchers become available. See my post in the HalloWeekends meetup thread: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/30088-cp-halloweekendskalahari-meetup/

  38. Yea I voted for The Beast on the third question but only because I had too. I don't see them messing with either one. Racer is a historic coaster and still well liked, plus it fits the theme of that area better than a steel coaster would. The Beast is a classic as well that I don't see being messed with either. Not to say it isn't possible for either but I would be surprised to see it happen.

  39. Well, it is a mall. (Not a shopping center, but one of the other definitions) It sounds better than Coney Esplanade or Coney Pedestrian Walkway. (edit - jgoble's post wasn't there when I started to post..)

  41. Whoa, yeah, wait... I just now read the whole mobius Twisted Colossus. Do we have more information on this? A racing coaster that you go through twice, once on each side? Mobius coasters are a thing, but they don't go through twice... What's the point? And oh my, capacity.

  42. I'm not a finance guy, so just conceptually discussing who I think would be a good owner in terms of their style: I think the park is too big for Herschend. That's not really their expertise. They do manage Darian Lake, but that's STILL a step or two behind Kings Island's size and scope. Darian Lake ain't makin' any top 10 most visited seasonal parks in the U.S.... Parques, I think, would actually be a good fit. They seem to do well with Parque Warner and Parque de Atracciones, which - again conceptually - I think Kings Island should strive to be more like. They seem to be sort of the masters of maintaining and respecting the past, building for the future, and keeping power de-centralized so each park has its own identity and leadership and story. I like that. Merlin would also be a great fit. Their UK parks are outrageously cool and wonderful. They know what they're doing. They need a way to enter into the U.S. business beyond LEGOLAND, and acquiring some great seasonal parks would be a nice step. Their ideology also meshes well with Cedar Fair's, but takes it up a notch - coasters, but with a purpose. Well done theming and animal encounters and history and design. They could do wonders. I only see SIX getting the park if it's through a third party or through a merger / partnership with Cedar Fair. It seems unlikely to me that Cedar Fair would knowingly allow their primary industry alternative to come into possession of one of their top three parks. They probably wouldn't want SIX to control Cedar Point's primary competitor, and one of America's top three most visited theme parks. SeaWorld / Busch would - conceptually - make me giddy. I have yet to encounter a SeaWorld Parks park that wasn't lovingly cared for, wonderfully staffed, and filled with delicious food and drink. Obviously, current finances would probably make it wise for Kings Island to not be under SEAS' ownership.

  44. I've never been to a Six Flags park before. Someone mentioned tickets? Do you have to buy tickets to ride rides?

  45. Im actually kinda glad to see Six Flags using a different color track for an RMC coaster, but i do think the changing colors (most specifically the choice of the changing colors) is kind of odd.
