KICentral Thread Once again, if you see any attractions or important details I'm missing, just let me know and I'll update and add to this original post. I'll also hopefully get around to including links and images, although I don't want to clutter up this post too much.

  3. Yes! A lights on tour and an announcement in one day? Guess that answers Mrs. Gator's question of whether I was going to go back home between the tour and Haunt!

  4. It was a fad. Not unlike how we'll look back and see the Wing Riders in a few years.

  5. This is just a stupid comment. There is nothing wrong with walking around the park and taking in the sights while pregnant.

  6. Another season, another CF park gets a Flying Eagles ride. Soon, my friends. Soon. http://newsplusnotes.blogspot.com/2014/10/dorney-park-announces-new-attraction.html

  7. Please note that the park has already made it clear that SR&R will return from rehab in its previous spot. That is not the basis of this announcement.
    4 points
  8. Finally, the announcement. I have been waiting for them to announce the announcement for a while.

  9. Nice, not getting my hopes up to high. But still hopeful!

  10. Rides manufactured, regardless of where, and sold in the USA and Canada now must meet safety standards not even dreamt of in the 1940's. Moreover, even the Carowinds set now is operated at a somewhat lesser speed than they once were in Ohio. Still the best US set, by far. Knoebels, Schmobels. (And the Larsons have two speeds. Almost all parks operate them at the lower speed all the time.)

  11. People in this country tend to be way too uptight about things. Some of the stuff I've seen in videos of European parks really proves that.

  12. It would definitely be amazing. Terp, choosing his words with care.

  13. A guess: Flying Scooters. This short of a notice before an announcement screams "small flat ride." WindSeeker had only a week or so between the announcement of the announcement and the announcement itself. Not that I'm getting my hopes up, but wouldn't it be neat to see the original Eagles return to KI? Or perhaps they'll just cover additions that don't warrant a large announcement on their own. Fountain upgrades like at KD or Wonderland, the "sequel" to Cirque Imagine, and/or another equally significant feature could, all together, be a decent announcement for tomorrow. Whatever it is, I'm definitely interested!

  14. A refurbished Shake, Rattle & Roll should be in the announcements. New Flying Eagle's would be a very pleasant addition!
    3 points
  15. But our Flying Eagles were located elsewhere in the park before, where Dodgem currently stands today.
    3 points
  16. And with that, we have less than 22 hours to "decode". I'll definitely be there.

  20. Hey, Darien Lake has an awesome INTAMIN standup coaster. And you can get a fantastic view of it from the road next to the park! Oh... wait... (Somehow I get a feeling that one will go over the heads of a lot of people here...)

  21. At this point, I've realized that getting a new Cirque Imagine-esque show for next year is more than enough of an addition for me. FTW, hoping Cedar Fair and Les Productions Haut-Vol do lots of business for many years to come.

  22. I tried to search if any of the rides besides WindSeeker close for high winds and there were no results. I'm a Cedar Point local and i know how easily all of the rides there shut down for winds. Its supposed to be very windy and cold Saturday so i think it is a recipe for no lines. Any high wind experiences at KI?

  25. For what it's worth...I was one of the Flyer Fest people from the 2003-2004 season. We would ride every night from 9-10p. Some of the best snappers I've ever seen were a member of that dirty dozen. With that being said, I can tell you that I've had snapping experience on two of the new models of Flying Scooters. Fun Spot in Florida has a set, which are particularly fast and are extremely easy to snap. I had several sessions on there that were comparable to Kings Island rides. If you could snap at Kings Island, you could snap there. I was also able to get the ones at Kentucky Kingdom off the ground. I only rode once, and I even had a friend in the tub with me. You have to be pretty good to get those going, but it most certainly can be done. The ones at Strickers were snappable too before they were moved. I realize that they aren't Larson, but I don't want people to think that they simply can't snap based off of that model since it has been slowed down.
    2 points
  26. This. You MIGHT be able to snap the newer Larson models if you have a confluence of favorable conditions, but I wouldn't count on being able to do it. I don't know if there's a more frustrating feeling while riding anything at an amusement park than riding a newer flyer set, achieving maximum height, a quick flip of the sail, waiting for the snap at the bottom and getting nothing. Anyone who claims to be able to snap these newer sets with any regularity is either (1) a true expert; (2) unfamiliar with what snapping really is; or (3) lying. The other downside is the very short ride cycle, particularly at Cedar Point. It takes those things forever to slow down and come to a complete stop, so they had to compensate with shorter actual "fly" time. The post I quoted above says it all. If KI does add a flyer set, there's absolutely no way the 3 Point Challenge game is going to be retired (it may be relocated to another position in the park, but it's definitely not going away). Most people would be shocked at how much the 3 Point Challenge games make not only at KI but at other parks. It is the single most profitable game at most parks in the country that have them. There's a reason that parks that didn't have them have added them recently or will be adding them in the near future.

  27. A ride like Ricochet at Carowinds would be a cool edition. I think it could be a great fit in X-Base or something.
    2 points
  28. They've made no attempt to hide the fact that Cirque Imagine is coming back next year. I doubt it'll be the exact same show, but in a similar spirit.I imagine capex improvements for next year will be improvements around the park - some that will be VERY obvious, some not as much. Maybe it's not as exciting as a new ride, but it will make the park a better place.
    2 points
  29. They had several high rides close due to wind a few weeks ago. Tower was in slow mode too. I think the cutoff for some of the bigger rides is 35 mph.

  30. Rivertown needs more "rivers" for sure...plus a couple of flat rides.
    2 points
  31. Thats going to be hard to see because they are kind of not liked by most people anymore. Also it has been a while since a brand new stand up was builtThat maybe but if you think about it. All that needs to happen is for B&M to redesign the harness. Plus inverts weren't built for a long time. So stand ups may come back one day. B&M Inverts weren't built for a while because mostly everyone who wanted one and could afford one already had one.

  32. This stuff is perfectly acceptable in many of the less uptight countries in the world. In other words, anywhere but the USA. Everyone should experience life outside of the US, even if it is just for a day. I had a great two years in Germany and would love to go back......permanently.

  33. Probably not expecting to get trampled. I mean I go to KI's Halloween stuff and I never expect to have the following happen: Get Stabbed Get Shot Get Punched Get Trampled Have vicious slurs slung at me Things I expect to happen: Scares people jumping/screaming eating drinking having fun

  35. Opinions are typically based upon something, I am wondering what you are basing yours on? Or is it just wishful thinking? Just wishful thinking. I spoke to a bunch of employees and guests who have all said that it would be amazing if KI got a stand up coaster.

  36. The I love the location of WWC at Kings Island, because its so unique. If WWC was ever removed from Kings Island, then the name RiverTown would be pointless. I dont know what area that RFYLCB would be technically be located, so I guess that Diamindback would technically count as a Water Ride, hence the water.

  37. Nice report. Also thumbs up for Hanks Burrito shack, just the smells make my mouth water. We might eat there when we go to Kings Island tomorrow.

  38. Not to defend the park, but just playing devils advocate here. By putting a security measure in to make sure no one brings knives or anything else into the park is all well and good, but someone can leave it in the car. That person can still do a lot of damage. Do you then increase parking lot security 10x? 100x? Firearm alerting dogs? Unfortunately, this thing happened. Could the park have done more? Not sure how as it was in the parking lot and short of looking into each and every car....

  39. And every experience is different. In high school, I found the rough draft of the man I was to become. I learned how to write research papers, use Excel and Access. Learned how to balance a check book, basic accounting skills, write a resume, and how to be a speaker. Then I went to college and soon refined the man I was becoming. (I am a St X grad)

  40. As others have said Firehawk would be my first ride just due to it's capacity. Flight of Fear is really bad as well and lines up fast so by hitting Firehawk first I could jump over to Flight of Fear right after and knock them both out really fast before they get a huge line. Favorite area is tough as Action Zone looks great with it's improvements and additions this year but still has a little more work to go. I love the look of Coney Mall too. But Rivertown wins for me with the Diamondback and Beast combo. Plus White Water Canyon is a lot of fun and RFYLCB is right next to it and fits in a bit with the theme as well. Reds Hall of Fame grill being the only real sit down restaurant at the park gives it a little bit of a boost on the food side too.

  41. The historic answer to, "Was Paramount good at promoting new rides?" is... kind of. They had a mentality of creating a show out of media days. They really catered to the enthusiasts (specifically ACErs at the time - before the trillion other clubs). At the time, this was a generally accepted practice. Jeffrey Siebert really pioneered some things - especially in his tenure at PKI. Pyro, actors, and massive giveaways were some of the things that was a given at media day. Paramount Parks bought into his ideas and he was able to make some of the most spectacular announcements and have some of the most incredible ride openings in history. The problem was that this was a pretty huge expense. Let's not kid ourselves - Viacom had no idea how to run parks, so they simply wrote a check without asking too many questions. Now, let's review the purpose of media day (in no particular order): 1 - To cater to the media so they can get what they need in order to run their stories 2 - Stock footage 3 - Create buzz Notice how nothing I mentioned says anything about making sure that enthusiasts get to be the first riders, or that Johnny KIC gets to ride Banshee 43 times on media day. There are certain perks to being an enthusiast or club member or whatever. Sometimes you get to go to media day. You're there for a reason, though. When 1,000 enthusiasts show up to media day it's easier to get photos and video of full trains. But hey - put one in the win column for both you and the park. I think Jeffrey's problem at Kings Island was that he was great about creating buzz and putting birdies in peoples' ears, but there wasn't a great medium at the time for this. Since leaving Paramount Parks, he went on to be a corporate communications guy at Schlitterbahn and currently serves in the role of Marketing Director at Six Flags Fiesta Texas. He's been able to move Heaven and Earth for both organizations. In today's word of social media it's much easier for the common man to really make some noise. Check out his latest teaser for the (at the time unannounced) Batman: The Ride Although I haven't really asked him if this was his idea, it definitely sounds like Jeff. So simply, yet so brilliant. For those of you who didn't keep up with this, a simple balloon flew at different heights for a couple of days. Each placement reflected a section of the ride as well as the height at that particular location. It was simple, but the internet went nuts. With that being said, I've had a fantastic opportunity to work with four PR people at Kings Island via KIC stuff, and I learned valuable lessons from all of them Jeffrey Siebert - People are looking to get away from day to day life at KI. They want to exist in a world of excitement and anticipation. Maureen Richmond - No matter what you're doing, never forget that people are there to have fun! Bill Mefford - Do you research, cover your bases, write the reporters story for them. Don Helbig - Give the media what they need to do to get the job done, and they will get the job done.

  42. Since there was some discussion of the music used in Cirque Imagine earlier this summer, I thought I'd share what Skeleton Crew songs I've been able to identify using the Shazam app on my phone. All of the songs listed here are available on iTunes, so if you're interested in owning them, you can find them there. If the song has a link, it will take you to YouTube. So, without further adieu: Before the show: Carmina Burana (O Fortuna) - Maxime Rodriguez (Album name: Symphonie Sur Glace)(This one comes across as "Cours D'amours: O Fortuna - Orchestre Philharmonique de Sofia et Georgi Robev et Choeur National[...]" in Shazam but redirects to the Maxime Rodriguez song in iTunes, which seems to be correct. Take this info with a grain of salt.) Beginning of show/acrobatics on hanging ropes: Electroshock - Seth Podowitz Nightmare (Original Mix) - Biometrix The fire baton/triangle act (which always makes me wince--I'd be too afraid I'd burn myself!): Teardown of the tower stacking act:Unholy Spirits - Kevin Michael Manthei The skeletons: Final bows:Ultraviolence - Cliff Lin (see earlier link) I do not have all the pre-show music identified, nor do I have the roue Cyr act or tower stacking act music identified. I have a feeling the roue Cyr & tower stacking music is custom. So enjoy! If you happen to identify any other songs not listed here, let me know, and I'll add them to this post. Disclaimer: If having this information available publicly is not okay with the park or the production company, please don't hesitate to remove this topic. I'm not trying to get anyone in trouble. I am posting this with the understanding that, since Skeleton Crew's pre-show announcement does not ban the use of electronics as a whole the way that Cirque Imagine's did, my use of the Shazam app on my phone to get the music information shown here does not conflict with the interests of Kings Island, Cedar Fair, or Les Productions Haut-Vol. Again, if anyone would not like this information posted, please don't hesitate to speak up and/or remove it.

  44. ^ Yeah, the baton slid to one end on Friday (or last Sunday--can't remember) when he was spinning it around his neck. The fire end was on his neck when he was meant to be taking the baton off his shoulder. He grimaced but passed it off as smiling. I totally couldn't have been that subtle about it, but he's obviously been doing that for quite some time. Between Cirque and Skeleton Key, my curiosity about next year's Cirque sequel is very high. I'm wondering what else there could be for them to do. Of course, I'm sure they're going to knock it out of the park with something that none of us are expecting.

  45. They had a fog machine positioned directly behind one of the benches of the Rivertown smoking section. It gave the illusion of someone really getting their fix. This one woman was calmly sitting there with a cigarette, and it looked like she was smoking like sixty.

  47. That's an awfully broad statement you're making there. I understand what you mean by it, but do bear in mind that there also are teenagers who wouldn't steal a basketball and who would have reported the theft the same way you did.I'm not trying to be the PC police, but I think it's unfair to generalize it like that. Most teenagers are not very bright about many different things. Like it or not but most teenagers have very little real world experiences with anything.
