I did a forum search for this and got no results, so I thought I'd post it. I remember watching this when it aired on TV back in 1992. I thought it was so cool to see a local park on a TV special. There are some really great clips of some former rides, including a really neat spot on Phantom Theater at around the 42:00 mark. Also, be on the lookout for cheesy characters, bad acting, and really bad 90s fashions. All in all though, it's a pretty neat look back at KI from 1992!9 points

Check out this CoasterBob62 video of the Paramount Action Zone media day from 1999. Included in it is some clips of the stunt show that was allegedly removed as a result of the April 20, 1999, Columbine shootings in Littleton, CO. Does anyone have any more footage of this show? Any more recollections of it? Does anyone remember the name? I have vague memories, but I really just think I passed it on day. I never actually stopped to watch it.5 points

Remember, the show continued for weeks, amidst many guest complaints, after Columbine. It was only after the day a Columbine parent sought some solace and visited an Ohio theme park...and was horrified....that the show quietly disappeared.5 points

That gets posted here every once in a while. I absolutely love it. I remember watching it on TV as a kid. I've said it before and I'll say it again: it's incredible how much has changed and how much has not.4 points

Chang looked best in the yellow with blue supports it had as its final color scheme. The solid yellow was kind of meh and the "Riddler" paint job was hideous.4 points

Coaster Crew posted on Facebook this morning that they are doing away with their "regular" $10/year membership option, in order to "stay competitive with other Coaster Enthusiast Clubs, and to become more reputable to Parks to be included in their sponsored events" and also for the purpose of "satisfying some parks policies on membership prices allowing club members to be apart of park held events such as CoasterStock, Holliwood Nights, and select Media Days." This change is effective December 1. There will now be just one membership option, which will be $25/year for a single person plus an additional $5 for each additional member in the same household at the same address. This new membership structure will come with more perks, including but not limited to: Existing "regular" (non-Platinum) memberships will be grandfathered in, and an option will be available to upgrade such a membership to the new system.3 points

I saw it once, can't remember too much about it, but I remember liking it... I like stunt shows, it would be neat to see one return to the park. Edit: Found this video of the show while it was at Paramount's Great America. It rotated around the chain so I assume that it's just about the same. It was at Kings Island from July 15-July 27. It's not the best video, but it gets the point across.3 points

The machines aren't rigged in the sense that it's impossible to win. But many of them have a determined payout rate where the game will prevent winning if its cashflow has not reached a certain threshold since the last prize was given. Once this threshold has been reached, winning a prize reverts back to being purely skill-based. Now, this isn't true as much with claw machines. Those rarely have logic complex enough to do that, so they just set the claw strength to adjust the difficulty in such a way as to prevent easily winning. On newer, computerized games, most notably Stacker, this is very much the case, as demonstrated by this video: Now, to regular claw machines. These are not rigged at all in most cases. I play the claw every time I am at the local Meijer or Kroger. Nine times out of ten, I go home with a prize after one or two attempts. The typical claw machines with plush toys are usually games of pure skill. There are techniques you can learn to maximize your odds. You have to use your angles and look at the machine from all sides. You have to go for the toy that is least wedged in with others and as close to the prize chute as possible. Sometimes shape matters, you need to go for something shaped in such a way that the claw has a vantage point to grab on from. On a freshly filled machine, you can sometimes even use the claw to just "rake" toys into the chute. As a rule, the more valuable the prize, the more likely it is that they are messing with the strength of the claw or throwing in other variables to make it more difficult. With the 50 cent plush machines, the toys are usually not worth much more than the cost of one play, if even that. Typically, they are worth a bit less. Even if they have a really good group of players come in and play, the owner of the machine will be making a profit.3 points

Even if the show had continued, the effects probably would not have. Because Paramount.3 points

And now the company intends to save (cut) its way to prosperity. $50,000,000 in cuts in the next year alone. Don't think the guest experience won't suffer. It will. Can you say CBS?3 points

I saw the stunt show once during its short run. I remember thinking it was really cool, but I was also much younger (only 7 or 8 depending on when in the summer I saw it) and not as aware of happenings around the country. Very cool video, nonetheless. A couple things I noticed, first were the movie props (I noticed the car from the Godfather and the Star Trek ship) only in the area for media day? I don't seem to recall ever seeing them in Action Zone. And also I wish they'd change the Kings Island sign in the fountains back to how it is in the video, laying down in a sloped garden, rather than the sign on sticks that it is currently. I'm pretty sure Kings Dominion switched theirs back this year as part of the 40th Anniversary improvements. It'd be nice to see Kings Island's go back that way as well.3 points

I am trying to work there mainly for the experience and just make enough money to have a little leftover for when I'm not working. The main goal is just to be there and enjoy it3 points

I'm not confused about who made the decision. I just think it's a bad one amongst the many that he's made. If this park survives, it will be in spite of him, not because of him.3 points

I TRIED to buy pizza at Kentucky Kingdom. There was none on display, and the employee refused to show me any unless I bought it. I got a manager. None was ready. (At 12:30 on a Thursday). And he said the same thing: "unless you pay first, we can't fix any." I left. Total in park per caps from Mr. Terp that day: $0.00. Penny wise. Pound foolish. There's a metaphor of Hart and his business philosophy in there somewhere. At least it's not my tax dollars at risk there. Thankfully.3 points

I think it's cool that it shot fire and stuff. You almost forget that it had that infrastructure since it was just a fixture for so many years.2 points

Played the PS4 game in the KI arcade. Played 5 times to set up a way to win the key. Had it all set up and then.... Nope I mis hit and messed up my entire plan....2 points

Actually, I saw a video once of a guy who owned a bunch of various arcade-type games. One game/machine that he had was a claw machine. He opened up the control panel and showed that there was a knob that you could adjust how tightly the claw grabbed. Turn it down, the claw would close but not put forth enough pressure to actually grab something. Turn it up, the claw would grab the heck out of whatever was in the machine. So not sure if you could call it "rigged," but you could definitely control the outcome to an extent.2 points
-
I played one of these exactly one time as a kid, winning a stuffed animal for my sister with her quarter(s). I quit while I was ahead. I doubt that any of them are rigged to only pay out part of the time; that might constitute an unlawful game of chance in many states. Rather, I would expect that the difficulty setting is increased when the prize values are higher.2 points

Giving this thread a bump after 5 years as I am a CP alumn and have recently discovered there is an actual company-endorsed CP alumni network. Once confirmed, you will be sent a nice T shirt, along with some bumper stickers and other goodies. Of more importance are invitations to alumni events at the WDW resort throughout the year, plus discounts at various times. Membership is free and does not have to be renewed every year.2 points

You can get a Harty serving of pizza at a certain park in Louisville (well, unless you are in a wheelchair and would thus require an automatic door...). Then after you eat it, you can go experience The Runs! Oh, my...2 points

Fairfield to Kings Island is a pretty lengthy drive for a seasonal job. I wouldn't recommend it, honestly. I drive from Fairfield to Loveland every day (which is a slightly shorter distance even) and the commute has been irritating enough to prompt me to look for places to live that are closer. And that's for my full-time career. I personally could never justify that commute for a seasonal job. Of course, I'm not you, and if it's something you really want to do, Fairfield is a great place to live. It's where I've lived my whole life (besides the four years I spent in New Concord, Ohio, the happiest place on the planet) and I think I turned out pretty good. Ultimately, what I think it comes down to is, are you looking to work at Kings Island for the income or for the experience? Because if it's the former, then it would be difficult for me to recommend over working at Cedar Point, where they have housing on-site for out of town employees. If it is the latter that makes you want to work at KI, though, my personal recommendation would be to see if you can get a couple other people interested so you can work down here together and split rent.2 points

Even the new Starbucks face on International street is a repaint of the current facade of that building (something I didn't really recognize until I looked at a photo of the store that was there), so I think it very unlikely they intend to detheme the rest of International Street. If anything, the planned color scheme looks more Old World to me than the weird blue Thrill Seekers has been.2 points

When The Beast opened, I was big enough to ride, but too terrified. The Racer scared me enough as it is. After two years of not riding it, my mom talked me into it. Funny thing is, my grandfather rode it before I did. He seemed to like it. I'm sure it was like nothing he had ever seen or been on, being a WWII vet.(God rest his soul)2 points

The red isn't a problem. It would look good on the track. It would look good on the supports. As long as another color were involved. The thing that makes it look bad is the lack of contrast. It's the same reason I can't stand the color scheme of Leviathan, and its track and supports are not even identical, just very similar.2 points

Hello all! I was wondering if anyone has had an experience with weddings at the Moonlite Gardens.I haven't been able to find any reviews about it, so I thought asking here might work. I found some pictures of weddings there and they look beautiful. We're trying to decide right now between Ault Park, Moonlite, or Music Hall. Just trying to make a more educated decision. Thanks so much for any opinions or information!1 point

I've watched this video many times, but never stopped in to watch the actual stunt show while it was at the park. I don't even believe that the show had a specific name, to be honest. As far as I'm aware it was just called the Action Zone Stunt Show.1 point

Oh, I'm not sure how the apartment situations are there, but Sharonville could be a nice place to live also. Quite close to the park, but not in Mason, has a very nice county park, Sharon Woods. Rock climbing, along with all the normal Greater-Cincinnati establishments, or close enough to them, and close to a neat go kart (expensive) indoor track in Springdale, if that's your thing.. Could consider there aswell.1 point

Be aware that some landlords in Ohio use mandatory third party billing "services" for utilities. Such companies bill more than the utility rate, then split the difference with the landlord. In essence increasing your rent in a roundabout (and very inefficient) way. Make sure you're comparing apples to apples.1 point

It is a rather expensive venue. But it does provide some unique photo ops. I personally have escorted a wedding party around to several rides so that they could take wedding pictures on some of the rides, including the Carousel and Ferris Wheel. Some people only have their reception at Coney, while some people have both the ceremony and the reception at Coney`s Moonlite Gardens. As others have said, Moonlite Gardens is a rather big place. The one drawback is that the dance floor is open air. So if you have rain on your wedding day/night, the dance floor will also get a little wet.1 point

I don't mind a building like a secondary arcade being used, but what worries me is that part of the park already lacks a lot of stuff that with the arcade being gone it will appear even deader...1 point

Maybe they can put a new basketball game there in front of where Kill Mart is, I think the park is lacking basketball games and really could use a new one. Maybe a slam dunk game. /sarcasm1 point

I hope they at least cover up or take down the visible stuff on the outside of KillMart.1 point
-
If I recall correctly the guy that gave us the lights on tours of the 3 haunts on KIC day stated that the arcade/Killmart building was given to the entertainment group for a new haunt. So I think that means the arcade is to be no more. With that said---- A non disguised haunt building will be kind of strange most of the time. Later, Mark1 point
-
If they were to leave Kill Mart set up like that all year, it would be by far the most egregious one yet. Right in the middle of Coney Mall, one of the most iconic sections of the park... I would be shocked to see that happen. Hopefully the good people at Kings Island will see that too.1 point
-
Seems excessive to keep that arcade shut down, all the arcades always seem very busy and are good alternatives during pop up rain showers. I would think the arcade brought in more money than Kill Mart, plus the scary façade would be way off theme wise for Coney Mall. Of course that hasn't stopped them in the past...1 point

Son of Beast for several years. One side of the turnpike cars for many years.... Tower Gardens current state? Son of Beast's station still? The Crypt's building? The new building beside Beast's brake run? Club Blood's building? I'm sorry, but to someone that doesn't frequent Kings Island often, these things are, at best, tacky. What's one more?1 point

They will be like these.. but with, from the rendering, yellow cars that look somewhat space-like. That is, hands down, the most awkward video I've ever seen.1 point

Looking forward to the new Woodstock Gliders. WE have needed a new flat ride. Kind of glad it's in Planet Snoopy as well. Help keep their status as a great kids area and help keep lines shorter from people viewing it as a kids ride and staying away. Ive often walked onto Surf Dog or just had to wait one cycle, where i'll see Disk-o rides with longer lines at other parks when they're on a general midway.1 point
