  1. ...most people... Smile. The whole concept of 'guilty pleasure' is tied up in liking a coaster you know you "shouldn't." For years, I knew, as an "enthusiast," I "shouldn't" like NJFTP. Therefore, I didn't go. Finally, in 1998, curiosity got the best of me. My coaster snobbery kept me away from a wonderful park for at least 20 years. I no longer care what I "should" or "shouldn't" like. For very similar reasons, I also do not see myself as a coaster enthusiast. More like an industry cheerleader, avid fan and observer. I "should" like Voyage. Nope. Not even a little. I "should" revere Holiday World. I DO hold Pat Koch in high esteem...the park? No. Not anymore. I "should" look down my nose at SIX. Nope. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. I like what I like and don't what I don't. Without feeling guilty. It's my time, my money, my life. If I choose to like what others do or don't, it's of no great consequence, to them or me.

  2. As long as Fabricator's exist, spare parts will exist as well. The real issues involve costs. A one off item is rarely ever cheap. I'm sure the park knows what they are getting into.

  3. Come June 12th (and potentially the rest of this season), expect to see a renewed interest in everything involving dinosaurs. Definitely not the overwhelming amount seen in '93, but still quite a bit.

  5. I know the idea has been discussed before and that it's a silly bit of armchair Imagineering, but here in Columbus the zoo has a relaxing, drop-free boat ride through a few simple Pacific Island animal habitats that, every summer, becomes Dinosaur Island. They simply rent animatronic dinosaurs and place them along the ride's course. Very simple. No drops. Just a relaxing boat tour. I think they charge $2 or $3 dollars for passholders and guests, respectively. Even though the terrain back there is prohibitive, I think a relaxing boat ride past dinosaurs is such a nice diversion. What a simple way to reinvigorate the attraction. And if each boat tripped the animatronic well before it was in sight, it would give the appearance that they're constantly moving, at least. Obviously it's entirely unlikely, but perhaps in another world the Cedar Fair parks would've built this kind of thing to begin with. EDIT: By the way, don't come up here looking for it... This summer, it's Pirate Island instead, and is likely to stay that way; the zoo purchased the pirates instead of renting the dinosaurs.

  7. I'm assuming another, hey lets wait until the season starts before taking a down a ride for a major overhaul, like we had with SRR. To be fair I remember seeing this ride having portions of it blocked off at various times the last couple seasons. Most likely suffered another break down of some sort and the park decided it should just be redone. Tending to the multiple other rides in time for a complete season so they can focus on one major job with less distraction makes sense.

  8. Actually, I'm already seeing ads for the Kentucky election airing on TV here in Cincinnati and all have alluded to misspending by the current regime. I have a feeling KK will be a key part of those arguments. EDIT: Spelling error.

  9. Based on what I saw from numerous KIC users on Facebook, looks like I missed a great event., especially Dennis Spiegel talking about the history of the park. If there's a similar event taking place next year, you can bet I'll be there. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  11. I couldn't even spit apart the ribs they were so tough...today's meal was good though, just simply burgers and hot dogs. Coasterstock was pretty awesome. I've never done a Beast tour before until today. I also loved Speigel's talk yesterday. And ERT on The Beast/Diamondback (not Vortex, yikes). Lots of good stuff! I can't wait to see what they have planned next year...

  14. I think we may be missing the point here with DA. We are not really the target market. I take my son through there every time we go to the park. He absolutely loves it. Can't get enough of it. Moving or not. He roars at the Dinos. I see kids up to about 9/10 who just love it. Kids and Dinos are a perfect fit. Not sure why. As for the sensors, I think many are messed with by the sunlight or shade combo. As they are motion activated they rely on light bouncing back into the bulb. Plus with that area so far out of the way, it's not like it's keeping future growth from happening. However this year they did remove the paid photo booth area and replaced it with a dinosaur selfie area.

  17. Leases can be revoked. Every Government lease I have ever seen includes a termination clause for the "convenience of the Government." That means any reason or no reason. Hart's business partner is a high muckety-muck in the Democrat party. So much so, he ran against Mitch McConnell. And lost. Badly.

  18. You also missed Jeff Gramke's talk. Leaned something new today. I did not know that KI had another in-house woodie designed and trains ordered to be built where Diamondback stands now.. The plan was backed out as Paramount purchased the park. But he still has the design. Apparently it was designed with the same John Allen inspiration The Beast was. So another black mark caused by Paramount. Sent from a signal coming out of the Vega system.

  19. This person was saying that Kings Island/Holiday World allows all Pass Holders to attend private events. Once they were shown evidence to the contrary their response was 'Bite Me" and other childish responses. Others were hoping for rain so the events would be ruined.

  22. Unlike here, the talk on the FB page can get nasty at times. Some folks are VERY upset the park is closed for private events and very uninformed. They think that being a Pass Holder entitles them to park access anytime the park is open..........like Pass Holders at Kings Island and Holiday World. Fine Print..........read it...................always.....even if it is more obvious than fine.

  23. And keeps at least one user here outside the gates. If it was thought for one minute that'd shush that user... Note though that several posters who normally rush in to defend their park for its every inane action have suddenly shushed. I doubt that is a coincidence. Meanwhile, every day in every way that fateful November day draws closer. And that huge amount of favorable publicity that The New Kentucky Kingdom got by being open, being new? That's gone, now. 2015--Customers must be earned--not turned away at the gate. There's an important allegory there. Fortunately, I pay DC taxes. Were I a Kentucky taxpayer, I'd be on a statewide speaking tour by now, telling Ballard, Boyd, Menifee, Pike and on and on taxpayers on what and how their tax dollars are being spent. "Are you being served? Should your tax dollars be spent on chills and thrills? In Louisville? See this old school? See this pot hole? Look at T3? How many pot holes could be filled with that?"

  27. It'll take a little getting used to for me seeing this giant Ferris wheel in Kentucky, but overall, I'm all for this. It'll give me something to do when I show up early for a movie. Kind of compliments the carousel that's on the other side of the Ohio River.

  28. My big hope is that as part of the Amusement Dark initiative, Cedar Fair also rolls out new classic dark rides for each of the parks. That is to say that when Kings Island gets its interactive 21st century ride, I do not think it should replace Boo Blasters. But I think Boo Blasters does need replaced. I think it's entirely redundant to have two "blasting" dark rides, but apparently that didn't stop Wonderland. Have a cutting edge Iron Reef style dark ride, then a classic one, even if its The Great Pumpkin Adventure or something. It's not like we have a shortage of space, and we need more dark rides. It would be redundant for Kings Island to have Boo Blasters and a "better" interactive dark ride. At Knott's it makes more sense for Iron Reef to coexist with the park's other rides.. Two super classic dark rides, each FILLED with animatronics, lighting, music, storytelling, and craftsmanship, and each completely and totally refurbished in the last 3 years. Iron Reef is a good foil for them, and a nice way to add a 21st century dark ride that still feels like it's built for the park.

  36. Does KI suddenly and with little warning close for a private event when the park had been scheduled to be open?
    3 points
  37. I'm sure others noticed, but there was an unusual amount if attractions that closed throughout the day or were closed. Monster was partially dismantled, im guessing its for a motor replacement. Maybe it will get an SRR upgrade and light package. Dodge Ems shut down late in the day. FOF was down. WindSeeker was down until early evening. Planet Snoopy was hit the worst with Surf Dog, Helicopters, and Aerial Chase all down. Seemed like the walking dead by afternoon, with people skipping the longer lines and just....walking. Still was a good time though. (I was in the park, but not at Coasterstock. That event was probably worth the ERT for certain....never saw so many busses in the lot, though!!!)

  38. I like up front, because they provide USB chargers in some of the lockers. I rented a small one for 16.00 for all day and there larger ones for more. You type in a pass code and this gives you access all day for the set price. It takes cash or credit card. Call the park for the prices on the different size lockers. I do not like the ones in back by Banshee. It charges per use and you can get charged more if you are over the time limit. I have heard that lockers in that area if you pay cash and are past the time limit. Please confirm this with the park since I only heard this from other guests in the park.

  42. I don't recall them ever mentioning swapping teh library of rides around to the different parks. The way they talked it seemed like each park's rde would be themed to that given park's history, like WMG being themed around legends of the Mountain at teh center of their park. Curious waht they will use for Kings Island. Also agree with you about the merchandising opportunities. These atrractions give the parks lots of new merchadising opportunitis without them having to pay for any licensing. Not only do they have the usualy opportunities of other rides for merchandising such as t-shirts, shotglasses, mugs, etc. but with all the different creatures in the ride they could make action figures/toys and busts of them as well.

  43. Me and a buddy decided about 3:00 we was gonna make a run up to the park. Killed me to leave and watch people stay and ride more. Totally missed the boat on this one. Tomorrow (or today, depends how ya look at it) looks like it's gonna be decent weather. hope everyone has a great time!

  44. Hmm...with my limited park experience, I haven't been on too many coasters that are generally seen as "bad" but there could be some options: Vortex @ Kings Island While the hatred isn't universal (there seem to still be PLENTY of fans of this ride besides me), Vortex (and these huge Arrow Loopers in general) tend to get more flak than most rides for their head-banging and in polls like the Mitch Hawker poll will often be fairly near the bottom (In the 2013 MH Steel Poll Vortex ranked #294 out of 364 rides). While I do agree there is head-banging here, it's not enough to outweigh the good features the ride has IMO- a great layout, good forces, actual airtime from the cars near the back on the big drop, etc etc. And, thanks to its pretty solid capacity and few Ques, lines are almost always less than 30 minutes making this my main go-to coaster on a crowded day. Backlot Stunt Coaster @ Kings Island It gets OK reviews for the most part (ranked 226th on the Mitch Hawker poll which isn't terrible) but BLSC does get a bit of hate it seems- I'd guess it's not really for the ride experience itself but what it replaced and where it was put down within the park though, which I do agree wasn't the best of moves (this ride would fit much better in Action Zone). The ride itself is far from bad though, and is actually really fun for a small coaster. It kinda stinks how bad it's capacity is though. But, if the park isn't crowded, this one is on my to-do list whenever I visit KI. Adventure Express almost made my cut as a guilty pleasure, but while I love that ride, it's huge cult following as one of the best mine train coasters ever made alone made me think it just a bit too mainstream, and this is for coasters that DON'T get glowing reviews often. Legend @ Holiday World doesn't really count as a guilty pleasure (great reviews and usually it ranks fairly high in polls), but I do have an uncommon opinion on it: I think it's the best coaster at Holiday World when most rank it last (though depending on how Thunderbird reviews, this may change). (Responses to a few earlier posts) Also: Front Row on The Beast, especially at night, is awesome but this is such a common opinion and Beast is usually seen in such a good light I don't think it counts as a guilty pleasure (even as my favorite coaster so far overall). I don't think modern INTAMIN rides should count either- while they break down a lot, when they work, a lot of their rides are considered world-class and beloved by the hardcore coaster enthusiasts. Rides like Bizarro (SNFE), El Toro (SFGadv), Expedition GeForce (Holiday Park Germany) and many others would not top poll after poll otherwise or be ranked 9.0+ on websites with coaster ratings. Some of their older rides, like White Cyclone @ Nagashima Spa Land (random example I picked from my head), could theoretically count though as those didn't review nearly as well. And finally, I agree with Terpy- to quote Yukon Cornelius from the Rudolph special- "I'LL LIKE WHAT I LIKE AND YOU LIKE WHAT YOU LIKE!".

  47. Half of them are not static displays, or are at least not supposed to be. There should be over 60 animatronics, according to the advertising for the attraction, with only a handful of the dinosaurs being static. This I'll agree with... it boggles my mind how an area that appears so shaded can end up being so unbearably hot. Maybe I've just always visited the attraction at the worst possible time though.

  48. Meanstreak in the front. Hardly ever visit CP without a spin. Don't think I have a coaster like that at KI. I usually will ride Vortex for some ancient Arrow fun, but there is a price to pay.

  49. If KK never intended to open on the dates that they said to check back for, why put them on the calendar in the first place? Their FB posts are littered with confused guests. Also, why are they having companies renting out the park in mid-May? They're squandering what little demand they have. To KK- Running an amusement park- you're doing it wrong.
