Just to clarify things. PKIfan73, Scooby Doo was refering to Universal Studios in Orlando. Nickelodeon is closing its studios there (which was home to several classic Nick shows like Wild and Crazy Kids, Guts, Legends of the Hidden Temple among others). The Nickelodeon section at PKI was introduced in 1995 as Nickelodeon Splat City. The location of the Nick Theater and Runaway Reptar was home to the Sunshine Turnpike through the entire 1993 season before being removed. The site was converted to vacant midways in 1994 with green "slime" bubbling up from a crack in the midway. Then Nickelodeon Splat City was transformed into Nick Central in 2001 with the introduction of Runaway Reptar and Wild Thornberrys River Adventure.

I don`t see Holiday World adding anything BUT another woodie. I made my first visit to Holiday World this past weekend and had a blast. There two wooden coasters (especially the Legend) are awesome. While I don`t think they will break a record (although it wouldn`t completly surprise me if they do), I think it will be another high speed excellently designed coaster. I have an inkling that they may not have drifted too far when they picked who to design the new coaster, if it is in fact a wooden coaster. While CCI may be gone, there is another company that has popped up that is getting attention for a ride that just recently opened.

No, what Screamscape is refering to is any mention of the Hanna Barbera trademarked chareacters. Such as no longer calling it Hanna Barbera Land, Yogi`s Sky Tours, Atom Ant Airways, Alley Cat 500, Scooby`s Ghoster Coaster, etc. The one ride that will remain is Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle because Paramount Parks bought a special license from Sally Dark Rides when they installed it in 2003. I remember from a while back that the Paramount Park Hanna Barbera rights expired at some point in 2009, which is just around the corner!

I too remember coming across the Winterfest 1992 brochure a while back. But I can`t for the life of me remember where I saw it at.

Has anyone noticed that the park has yet to updated their website with the winner of $500 Scooby Bucks that were to be awarded on April 29th. Does anyone know if they chose a winner and just haven`t posted it on their site. (It is not just the Rewards portion of the site that is not up to date. The anouncements and calendar of events are also terribly out of date (close to three weeks now). I would think they would really want to promote the rewards program to keep pass holders coming frequently to the park and spending money. After all, the way PKI really makes money off of passes is all the spending done by the pass holders inside the park. Season Pass Rewards Then click on Winners, once the animation has finished and the menus appear. EDIT: Somehow, I accidently posted this the first time in the Polls Forum. (I must have been reading responses to a poll when I went to start this topic.

Actually, they had several rides open during Winterfest. They had the Carousel, HB Carousel, Dodgems, the train, and I believe the Antique Cars open in addition to the Smurf`s Enchanted Voyage open. TO my knowledge the Eiffel Tower was not open because of the lights that hung from it in the form of a large Christmas tree. All the lights connected at the top observation decks, where the huges star was that spanned both of the observation decks at the top. And just because the tickets and passes say they do not include Winterfest, does not necessarily mean they are bringing it back, but it is VERY likely.

Cincy Zoo Building New Park near PKI
CoastersRZ replied to jzarley's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Because the Cincinnati Zoo is a not-for profit company. They are first and foremost a zoo, and would NOT want to sink money into things that stray that far from their mission statement. They, like all zoos, are there to educate people about endangered animals, and to try and provide protection and new breeding programs to ensure that endangered animals will still be around for future generations. Roller coasters just don`t fit into their non-profit agenda. That being said, the Zoo does offer an experience quite similar to a theme park. Have you ever been in any of their buildings? Some of them are themed extrodinarily well. Closer to Disney than any of PKI`s rides have been, as far as the little details. Part of that is because they try and not make it look like cages, but the animals` actual habitat. -
Oops, I just realized I posted this in the wrong forum. Here is the link to the new thread in the correct forum. Sorry for any confusion I may have caused.

What ride are you refering to, The Racer?

Cincy Zoo Building New Park near PKI
CoastersRZ replied to jzarley's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I highly doubt that this satelite facility will stray too far from the zoo philosophy of having animals. Yes the Cincinnati Zoo does have a Chance train and carousel, but those are merely ways in which the park suplements its operating income. Keep in mind that the Cincinnati Zoo is known for its breeding programs. It is after all the only zoo to have succesfully bred a sumatran rhino, twice. -
I`m assumig he`s refering to when employees ride the rides in the morning before they open the ride to the public.
-
But what major attraction is NOT a ride? I can think of a couple possibilities throughout the park.
-
While I know nothing and don`t want to speculate, I sure hope PKI does not remove any more major rides. Over the past few years, they have not really added to the capacity of the park. They keep removing rides and replacing them with similar type rides. I can see several of the rides in Nick/Hanna Barbera being removed, primarily the Nick Theater, Slime Zone, and possibly Scooby`s Ghoster Coaster to make room for an expansion in 2006. I really don`t see any other major rides being removed in the rest of the park. Why remove rides, when PKI has so much land to build on (even though most of that is rugged land that is not close to any midways)
-
Well, for starters, TR:TR has the same program it has had since the ride opened in 2002. Secondly, if they moved the `Tiques (I didn`t go to the park this weekend because I made my first trip to Holiday World yesterday) to behind Delirium and Slingshot, it could be because they are beginning to prepare the protective structure for the Nickelodeon Parade floats that they had last year behind the Zeypher.

The past two years, the Cincinnati area Infinity radio stations have sponsored FearFest (Oldies 103.5, Q102, and B105). Before that it was WEBN, and the original sponsor the first two years of FearFest was Q102. However, as was mentioned, KISS is sponsoring the concerts at Timberwolf this year.

Quick question for those that attended today. Was the third train in operation, or is it still running with the two trains that have ran during the past weekends' technical rehearsals?
-
Yes, the Gold pass speed lane tickets will be available from June 15 to August 12th, I believe. I`m not certain of the exact dates though. And, only the first 2,000 pass holders to get their ticket at the Eiffel Tower guest relations stand will get their Speedlane ticket.

The thing I found odd, is that in Wonderland`s fact sheet for the ride, they listed the track length as 2,000 feet compared to the 1,960 feet listed in PKI`s. Not a big difference. Also, I wonder what the Wonderland Maintenance and Construction team assisted PKI with, seeing as how they have their own Maintenance and Construction division. Probably collaborating on tips with the install as it was going up at Wonderland. When I rode the ride a couple of weeks ago, there was an employee from Premier standing next to the drivers booth.

Well, I was at the park yesterday afternoon, and they had all but one of the queues open. Luckily they were giving away the tickets, which limited the amoun of people in the line (the park was on the crowded side (wait for The Beast was about 35 minutes). I rode IJST with my sister, who was at the park for the first time this season. Even with the queue almost full, we only waited 50 minutes, while that is a little long for the short ride, I didn`t think it was that bad, considering the capacity. I still have yet to experience the "shaking" of the cars in the subway tunnel, but I can feel the peel out sensation of the cars, most noticably right before the 90 degree banked turn.

Construction on Flight Commander Site
CoastersRZ replied to specialk141's topic in Coming Attractions
Well, they do have some height back there in the form of The Vortex. But I agree, they need to put in a ride on that side of Coney Mall, because it is a dead section of the park. I think a large Ferris Wheel, similar to the ones at GL or CP would be popular if they were put in there. But I just don`t see PKI installing a Ferris Wheel anytime soon. -
Right before the ride opened to the public, one of the trains valleyed in the first helix. They had to cancel a preview day they had scheduled for pass holders. Although they said lightning stuck the ride`s electrical system, which led to part of the delayed opening. No, the wheels did not break off, as was mentioned above. Several coasters valley during the early season, because things are not broken in and sometimes the grease on the trains takes a while before it softens up.

So by that theory, Top Thrill Dragster should be removed since it has no point anymore since its record was broken? So why would they remove a ride that put Kings Island on the map, and is still one of their most popular rides? I don`t think it is a stupid ride. It is my favorite ride at Kings Island.
-
Well, on Saturday they were having a special on the Slingshot with one ride costing $15 instead of the normal $25. But I think that might have been a one day or weekend thing.

No, PTC is still in business. They ould not use the standard PTC train for two reasons. One-it couldn`t handle the short turning radius required for the loop. (Not to mention it would have needed a more secure lapbar than the traditional PTC lap bar). The second reason they couldn`t use standard PTC trains is the track guage on SoB is actually wider than the guage on The Racer and Beast, and those PTC trains wouldn`t fit onto the tracck.

The Racer is not a coaster classic because it had individual ratcheting restraints. Not to mention it received seat belts recently. However, I heard a while back that the status of an ACE coaster classic was changed to not include the seatbelt stipulation since it is a safety issue. The Beastie, I believe is a coaster classic because it still has the old buzz bars. As for the `Tiques, I have a feeling they may be coming back next seaon, possibly with new engines and definantly a new theme to fit in with the area in which they would be installed (Nick).
