  1. Yes, I could see how the way it is worded, the Military and/or senior citizens would want a $5 ticket. The press release does not say they received a discounted ticket price of $14.99, but that they receive a discount of $14.99. Which given the general admission price of $19.99 would equal a $5 admission ticket.
  2. That is a very solid suggestion. I know several locations at Disney World/Disneyland, you pay/order your food first, the move forward to the serving area. Seems to be more efficient than picking food then having to pay for it.
  3. I personally think that they could use several new attractions that can be enjoyed by multiple generations. Ie, rides that grandparents can take their small grand children on. KI used to have more of these types of rides, with the Skyride, and the Antique Cars, but they have slowly disappeared.
  4. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/whats-in-store/article115455523.html Moe`s and Famous Dave`s will open near the recently opened Cabela`s near Carowinds. The Famous Dave`s franchisor is none other than Bart Kinzel, the former Carowinds GM and son of former Cedar Fair CEO Dick Kinzel.
  5. Keep in mind that monetizing the free wifi is a way for Cedar Fair to make money so that they can pay the cash distribution to unit holders, while still being able to invest in the park.
  6. When I was at Cedar Point in September (on a Saturday, the first one for Halloweekends), Fast Lane was around $95 and FLP was in the order of $110 I believe. I was going to buy it so I didn`t have to wait in long lines while by wife waiting off the ride (she couldn`t partake in the ride as she is pregnant), but opted not to when I saw the price. Fortunately, the day I visited, the lines were very managable.
  7. What kind of ride is Falling Star? I have never visited Indiana Beach. I would love to make it out there soon. Brad, what recommendations do you have for first time visitors? I would like to say that I will make it out there next year, but with a new born on the way, most of my visits to amusement parks will be to KI and working at Coney in 2017.
  8. Per their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/scene75cincinnati/?pnref=story, Scene 75 Cincinnati and Scene 75 Dayton have won the IAAPA Brass Ring Award for 2016 as the top FEC (Family Entertainment Center) in North America! Congratulations! A well deserved award! For more information on IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) visit their website at www.iaapa.org. Information on the Brass Ring Awards can be found here: http://www.iaapa.org/about-iaapa/iaapa-awards/IAAPABrassRingAwards
  9. The difference though, is that since people don`t go swimming in the fountain, it doesn`t have to meet the same chemical checks/ water quality that a swimming pool has to be maintained too.
  10. What do you think at Coney needs a little love?
  11. Technically, they are footings, not footers. Most people call them footers, but that is more of a slang term that is often used interchangeably with footings. The batter brace is there to carry the lateral loads to the footings. The chords and cross bracing also help to do that, but also prevent the bent posts from buckling. Brings back memories of my structures class in architecture school. In my structures class, we had to design a column, as well as a 5' long bridge made entirely of wood and glue (no mechanical fasteners) that had to support three people. No single member could have been longer than 3' and we were not allowed to laminate members together (we could only glue 20% of the surface area). The goal was to have the best weight supported to weight of bridge ratio (Ie, the design intent was for the bridge to fail the moment a fourth person stepped on it).
  12. Yep, the reservoir for White Water Canyon is part of a natural stream. I don`t know if they actually use chlorine in the water or not for White Water. i know they treat the water for Flume.
  13. As the old saying goes, if it doesn`t shake, it will break.
  14. I think Mystic Timbers will help enhance the Rivertown theme. I do like the Frontier theme area at Cedar Point. Other than Millenium Force roaring over head, that area of the park is very tranquil.
  15. Ah, the wonderful time of the year, the IAAPA trade show. I am surprised we haven`t heard/seen more out of Orlando and the IAAPA show this year. One of these years, I will get down there and experience it. My boss at Coney was surprised to find I have never been down there when I was having dinner with him last week. It is on my list of things to eventually do.
  16. That 10,000 amount seems really high for just the fountain. I don`t dispute the number, but it just seems really high. And when they had ice skating "on the fountain" for Winterfest, they didn`t just freeze the water in the fountain. They built a pedestal/stage over all the jets and lights to have a smooth, flat surface to have the ice rink built on.
  17. Well, I think you answered some of your questions. The pumps are located in the pump room underneath the bandstand. There is a door that is visible on I believe the Planet Snoopy side of the bandstand that leads into the pump room. The pipes that go out to the fountains are encased in the concrete that form the pool for the fountain. I am not quite sure what you mean by run electronically or naturally or both.
  18. It doesn`t have to be much. I like the shade structures that exist for The Beast, and even Invertigo/Drop Tower. Those do a lot more to shade the queue than the shade structures on Firehawk, and even Diamondback and Banshee.
  19. Well, as stated above, parks do have an incentive to not have guests waiting in line. Generally speaking, guests waiting in line are not spending money in the park. So the virtual queueing technology frees the guests to spend more money in the park, thus increasing the per caps spending. That is also why higher capacity rides are better for parks. It can handle more people in an hour and thus those people won`t be waiting in a line as long. As long as there is some shade, I can generally handle most queue lines. I like the queues at Dollywood. They are generally well themed, and almost always provide ample shade (and sometimes even drinking fountains in the line (same with Disney).
  20. There is a Whip ride operating at a Cedar Fair park. It is at Dorney park. And of the three Whip`s I have ridden at Pennsylvania amusement park`s, I by far enjoy Dorney`s the best for its out of control feeling. Second place goes to Kennywood, followed by Hershey. Part of the reason that Backlot has the weird space around it, is that hey were installing the same ride at Canada`s Wonderland in the same season, so they had to try and get the ride to confirm to the site restrictions of two different parks. When you do that, there are bound to be some areas that seem a bit awkward and don`t work too well. i would love to see a flat ride placed on the plot of land that used to be home to the Salt Water Circus, which is the area just next to Diamondback`s transfer track. That area of the park (and that midway) always seems so deserted, and more of a pathway just to get between Points A and B.
  21. Wow. That image from Magnum is of superior quality compared to the ones at KI. I too wish that a few more coasters at KI had on ride photos. I renewed my pass to a Gold Pass for 2017, and included Funpix on it. I imagine Mystic Timbers will have an on ride photo. Hopefully they don`t remove an on-ride photo from another ride. The Funpix program is really a good deal. And, in 2017, if you have a Platinum Pass, it is valid at all Cedar Fair parks.
  22. I was wondering where his position would be based at since he oversees many parks now, or if they would make him relocate to Sandusky.
  23. While their maybe strong evidence that points to a Rocky Mountain Construction conversion of Mean Streak, until Cedar Point or Cedar Fair officially state such, it is just a rumor.
  24. Flooding is a fact of life at Coney. There were wooden coasters at Coney back in its heyday, and they managed just fine, despite the floods. I`ve heard some things about what might be in store for 2017. I won`t say too much, but will say that not every improvement that parks get come in the form of a shiny new attraction.
  25. With every new construction picture of this ride, I grow more and more excited. I love Thunderhead at Dollywood, and can`t wait to have a GCI right in my backyard. For those who have not experienced a GCI, you are in for a treat. While it may not be the biggest, tallest, fastest or meanest ride, it will be loads of fun, which is what roller coasters are supposed to be!
