Wurlitzer Band Organ to be restored in 2022!
johnjniehaus replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
The organ is awesome but it's definitely really loud.....I can usually hear it on Diamondback break run while I'm waiting to get off the ride... Glad it's working again! -
I'd love to see the Bayne Kurve in the former Skylab location right by Adventure Express. Maybe tie in their themeing/architecture? I think Knoebels is opening one next year so one can hope KI opens one in 2024? Would still love to see Skyride from CAGM moved to KI. Station where Slingshot once was and other station in Planet Snoopy. Nice way for families to get kids from kiddyland over to the other rides like Viking Fury,. Scrambler, Monster,. Antique Cars, Etc that they can Also ride before they hit 48"Currently it's kinda a pain to drag kids clear cross the park but skyride could fix that!

And people were worried about The Bat biting the dust! :-) I always ride in the front 4 rows of Banshee Because the force always smashes that restraint on my hips and it's very uncomfortable if I ride in the back rows. I haven't noticed any more rattle than last year and I've ridden quite a few times this season. Honestly, Flight of Fear is the one I think got rougher over the off season. It's really slamming me around for some reason this year. Anyone else have the same experience?

Still hoping that in a few years we can get the one from CA Great America.....if they moved the one from coney island 50 years ago surely they can figure out how to move the CA one to Kings Island. I'll take the skyride over any of CAGA coasters any day!

I'm at the park today and The Beast is down with trains pulled off the track. I can verify it was running earlier today. However, as I've said before it's broken down literally every time I come. I understand the sensor reset stuff and that's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about it being broke down and closed for over 30 minutes. I agree with Jeorby Nanpa that this is unacceptable. I understand the safety arguments and the sensors are touchy and occasionally it goes down for 10 minutes but I'm saying that it going down for 30 min plus is really annoying especially after waiting over an hour and having to come back later and wait an hour again. What other ride in the park has that much downtime this often??? Please let me know if I'm just having really bad luck as I'm sure others are at the park more often than I am.

I definitely think they will move the coasters to other parks in the Chain. My opinion is that the smaller parks (Valley fair, Dorney, Worlds of Fun, and Michigan Great Adventure) should all benefit. Cedar Point, Kings Island & Dominion, Carowinds, and Canada's Wonderland don't really NEED any of those coasters....if we (KI) did get one I think I'd go for Patriot just because we don't have a Floorless and it might be good in The Vortex plot. However, we really don't need it and it probably wouldn't be very popular here when competing with Diamondback and beast and Banshee and etc. However, I'd LOVE to see us get some flat rides out of the deal! If that skyride can be moved then hopefully it comes to us. Would love to see the Bayne Kurve and or Orbit relocated here. The double decker carousel needs to be saved and moved somewhere. Can't destroy/scrap a thing of beauty like that. I would also really love to see the Demon relocated and saved but it'll probably get scrapped which is really sad because I really liked the one at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee. That arrow model is actually one of the better ones.

I still haven't made it to alot of the PA parks but I really want to do it later this year. Thanks for the info! If dorney park has an enterprise I'm definitely going to stop by. I don't know why but I love that type of ride. I was super upset when Cedar Point took down the witches wheel and replaced it was a restaurant..."like how the heck are we supposed to find Magnum XL 200 now??" Was my dad's quote.

I have not been for years but absolutely loved it when I was there! Tennessee Tornado is the best Arrow Dynamics looper our there in my opinion. Blazing Fury (powered rollercoaster) was really cool too I remember.

Regarding the Son of Beast Station
johnjniehaus replied to CorkscrewMcPuke's topic in Coming Attractions
I mean if for some reason The Bat did get replaced (hopefully never! Long live Top Gun!)I could see reusing the sotb station if it's actually still intact. I wouldn't put it past them to still have The Vortex station in storage somewhere in different pieces. It might resurface at some point. I mean the Skylab booth resurfaced as a prop in the Orion que line...why they had been hanging onto that for all those years who knows! -
Hey it didn't get replaced with a flat ride but they definitely axed the ladder game! I remember a friend of mine who was retired running that game during the volunteer paramount days and getting screamed at by a teenaged supervisor for holding the ladder for a handicapped kid...I don't think anyone is crying that the ladder game is gone and if for some reason you are crying I offer my sincere condolences. Can't decide whether I like new landscape around Adventure Express que. Anyone else have an opinion on that?

This was a really nice addition. I randomly discovered it a few weeks ago. I thought tower gardens was usually just the smokers hang out spot since you aren't allowed to puff on the Eiffel Tower...

Paint any coaster a completely different color
johnjniehaus replied to SonofBaconator's topic in KI Polls
I'm very happy with it! Looked great....now if they could somehow figure out how to make the blue one go backwards again it would be a perfect ride... -
Oh funny story - a ride operator told me that The Beast breaks down alot because it's "just an old ride" so I really thought about asking why The Racer seldom breaks down and I've never seen or heard of Woodstock Express having any issues. Both of those coasters are older than The Beast....why are they seldom if ever closed? I'm actually really curious why they are so reliable or if anyone else has had issues with them being unreliable...
-
I was there Monday June 20th and FINALLY got to ride it after waiting an hour and it broke down so long that everyone left the line and the operators were emptying the garbage cans....then waited an hour again later and got to ride. the start stop thing was less than before so that's good. Overall the ride was still way smoother. Ending after second lift feels faster to me and I love it. First drop trim is still more noticeable to me than pre retrack but it's not a problem. Overall it's probably a better ride now but hopefully they cut down on the down time.

King's Island needs to keep this classic around! I know you could build a new ride but something is lost when these older rides disappear. I mean this is one of 5 left in the entire world and the last ever built of the model so it deserves to live on. We already lost Vortex and Firehawk. Let's not lose The Bat or Top Gun as the true fans know it. If the people of Chicago can save the Whizzer who knows, Cincy might be able to save The Bat if we really tried..... However I do hope the damage is minimal and the ride reopens as quickly as possible. I remember when The Vortex chain broke and they had to get a new one...that repair took a couple months but they got it running again before the end of the season.

So I would love to see a new flat ride in 2023. Especially in Octoberfest. There's so many great flat rides out there but here's my top picks - 3 retro and 3 new flats. Retro 1. Der Spinnen Keggers or Intamin Drunken Barrels (these looked like fun and would fit the beergarten theme nicely) 2. Bayne Kurve (I always thought these rides looked really cool and unfortunately they aren't very common anymore. I think CA Great America And Knoebels are the only parks that have one in the U.S.) 3. Ferris Wheel (I prefer the smaller Eli Wheel models as compared to the giant wheel like CP has. The big wheels are so slow and take forever to load that they are more of an observation tower than anything else) New 1. Gerstlauer Sky Roller (idk how this fits the theme? Maybe some WWII European flag markings on the planes? However this looks amazing and hey....pay homage to flight commander) 2. Zamperla Endeavor (pay homage to Skylab with this near version. I loved the enterprise ride design and these are still really fun.) 3. Huss Condor (nothing like this ride! One at Six Flags Great America is awesome on a hot day. I think Kansas City worlds of fun actually got one of these in 2017, maybe?)

Ok so the ride itself is awesome but the controls are the worst ever. Like horrendous. KI needs to address this very soon because this ride literally breaks down every day I go. And the stop start thing is the station is terrible too. Like come on guys this feels so cheap and terrible. The Beast was always reliable in the past and now that is ruined like no other coaster breaks down this much! It's ridiculous and needs to be addressed.

I was there with my Great Uncle and when standing in line for Banshee he asked, "didn't this use to be called The Vortex?"
-
I am all in favor of Sling Shot being relocated or removed. I never rode it because if I'm throwing down $20 extra the EXtreme Skyflyer looks alot more fun. I personally think we need a flat ride. Return of the der Spinnen Keggers? (Do I dare hope for that?) or even if they just moved the Matterhorn from Cedar Point down here. I mean CP would still have the Himalaya ride which is rather similar....
-
So I think they need to reconfigure The Racer Que to make it all one big que and please make the ques wider... unless you are a kid they are kinda close and uncomfortable. As for the "Old Man Beast" he needs all the que he can get. I've waited in all that stinkin que before. Not like a million years ago either. Go on a Saturday or get this opening day or the end of the season and that que is packed. Every que open. The Beast is about the only ride in the park I'll wait in all the ques to ride.

The 50th will be a great year. The 150 CP Anniversary was pretty awesome and Cedar Fair will do well with the one at KI. We can all wish for different things but looking back on park history can't we just stand back and say yes we are amazed at what the Wachs and Taft Broadcasting accomplished in the early 1970s? I mean they built such a great park and while time has caused certain attractions so fade away, we still have a lot of history in the park and hopefully that's all recognized during the anniversary. I would love to see signs outside the ques of all the original opening day rides to let people know this is a park original. Now as for the Controversial topic about Cedar Fair keeping Kings Island down, I can't say I totally agree about that. Here's why, since aquiring Kings Island, Cedar Fair has relocated or built 5 rollercoasters at the park (Firehawk, Diamondback, Banshee, Mystic Timbers, & Orion) In that same time frame, Cedar Fair has built/rebranded 5 rollercoasters at Cedar Point (Maverick, GateKeeper, Rougarou, Valraven, Steel Vengeance). Both Firehawk and Rougarou to me were temporary attractions. With Firehawk being the oldest it makes sense it closed first but trust me, when CP needs that space Rougarou is gone too. You may argue that CP got coaster types we didn't have (aka dive, winged, rmc hybrid, floorless) but you have to look at what we had before their management. We gained new coaster types too (aka Hyper, Inverted, Flying, and Giga). MT to me was the only one we already had something similar but sometimes you need to invest in that 48" generation seeing as they knew Vortex was on its last leg and I'm assuming the old Top Gun (now The Bat) won't be far behind. So when arguing that CF has kept us down I would say NOT AT ALL! Yes as a park CP is probably better but as someone else pointed out they have to attract tourism while we are a local park. It's just a different market. Mike Koontz has a good head on his shoulders and has done a ton for KI during his time and we all owe him a huge thanks for bringing KI out of the slump Paramount had put it in. I do agree that Vortex needs a replacement and I'm sure Koontz knows that too but now is not the time. Obviously there's other parks they need to invest in and money I'm sure is tight because of Covid. HEY DID EVERYONE FORGET THAT FREE YEAR OF SEASON PASSES!!?? Think about how much money they lost because THEY DID THE RIGHT THING! I will always be loyal to Cedar Fair for that reason if not for anything else.

Those are all great ideas! I could see leaving/fixing up the gardens and having the coca-cola thing in there. Would be nice. If we're talking area 72, I'd like to see a double ferris wheel (like the former Zodiac) go in there. To me, that would be way cooler than an actual ferris wheel. Considering that they aren't made anymore, it's rather unlikely but hey if Cedar Fair shows someone enough $ they could make it happen. Not only would it have the views, it would be efficient loading and to me the curb appeal is awesome. Hershey Park use to have one called Giant Wheel and it was on the brochures for years. Was too bad when they finally had to remove it.

Ok here's my list - Blue Circle: Viking Fury entrance should be moved and the Der Spinnen Keggers (aka drunken barrels) should be put across from the Festhaus. Yellow Circle/Square: This is currently the Tower Gardens that while I guess has historical significance is really boring and Idk who actually goes in there. Anyway I'd love to see a HUSS Condor there. They are really showy rides when it comes to curb appeal and is different than anything we've had in the past. Green Square: This is behind the theater and near Diamondback. I think a ferris wheel perhaps? Not a small Eli one but not a huge one like CP either. Something in the middle. See my photo below. Purple Circle: Seeing as Bayne Curve is a thing of the past, a Matterhorn would fit the European/Octoberfest theming abd it is also a great ride! Cedar Point should just sell us theirs. Lol Red Circle: Finally a Trabaunt. Was my favorite ride as a kid at Coney Island and I was steamed when they took it out. KI apparently use to have one called Wheel of Fortune over near the log flume. Bringing it back near the Dogem would not only pay homage to Coney Island but bring back a classic I enjoyed as a kid.

So I know this picture is a bit outdated so I've filled in Orion, Mystic Timbers, and Antique Autos. I was wondering what flat rides everyone would want to see either return to the park or see the park invest in? Here's a few possible locations too. So I'm going to post ideas for all the locations. Just specify what color the circle is and what flat ride you think would be a nice fit there. Enjoy!
