A few things to watch for if installing a giant wheel..... How will it look from outside the park? (will it block the current skyline?) How will the regions weather affect operations? (please note that strong winds and harsh conditions in the winter could mean repair expenses) These wheels are very popular right now, but what about 5 or 10 years down the road? (KI used to have a ferris wheel or two - what happened to them?)

Question..... Are the lift hill chains left on the track during the winter? Also...... Is anything applied to the track before summer, during the summer season, and after closing (for protection during winter)? And, if so, how is it done? Is there a machine built to do this task? Is stuff just applied with a brush? I'd like to know.

Seeing all that wood - and yet it wasn't positioned the proper way so as to let the ride operate safely. So sad.

CP on Sunday - less of a crowd. Go online and study the park map. You'll have a good time. No rain is predicted but it will be chilly with a high temp of only 53. The park is on the lake, so it will be even cooler. Take a jacket and if you wear glasses, take a head strap or you won't be let on certain rides. With it being that cool, stay off the water rides, even if they're open.

Big in 2014 - increased food prices, parking prices, and admission prices! And no exchanging salt - no matter how many grains - for U. S. dollars!

Your original question is about what would bring more crowds, not what is your favorite ride of yore. I don't believe anything new (or old) brings in that many more people, however, a new attraction and/or coaster can fulfill that requirement, depending on your expectations of the term "crowd". Now if you could dictate the weather each day and maybe lower ticket & food prices.......

I noticed a problem with Arrow's prototype of the barrel-roll coaster. Once you get through the barrel roll, you need another lift hill as all of the momentum gets lost in the roll, unless you start with an extremely high beginning, which would be cost prohibitive. The same is true for the suspended coaster. You've got to start high enough to get some speed because the swinging of the train slows the momentum of the train. That is why there are two lift hills in most of the Arrow suspended coasters - or the ride would be over rather quickly, as is Flight Deck. Think about it.....when rifing Flight Deck, where could you go after almost coming to the brake run? No where but up again, meaning another lift hill and a lot more expense. In Arrow's barrel roll prototype, they tried to keep the seat with as open a view as possible. I recall watching a video with an Arrow engineer explaining to Ron Toomer that the steel track comes too close to the rider then going through the roll & therefore a safety panel needed to be placed to the riders sides (a panel popped-up as the rider pulled down on the over the shoulder harness - it looked like a car window being rolled up). One has to wonder if other then-new ideas were tried, such as placing the brakes for the suspended coaster on top of the trains instead of the bottom, but the diaper idea to catch debris had not come to fruition. I wish I could find that video - it also showed a new kind of harness restraint and a scale model of a new suspended coaster on to which they had placed a camera in the front seat - the train kept getting stuck and Mr. Toomer kept prodding it with a wooden pointing stick. Maybe someone out there can find it?

I remember reading that when Cedar Point was installing Wicked Twister, a special dedicated power line had to be run from the mainland to the park - just for the new ride. The ride was installed near the front of the park, almost on the beach, which is a straight shot to the mainland. I don't remember reading if Maverick needed its own line or not, but doesn't it use the same type of propulsion system as Wicked Twister? And so I ask.... When is it deemed that a special power line needs to be in place for a new attraction? Also, I would imagine that new power lines are needed for all new attractions - is the location of a new attraction ever dependent on current location of power lines or are installing new lines not that big of a deal? I guess an even a more basic question - does a park's local power supplier provide any special set-ups for a park? (I would like factual answers, not guesses)

The beautiful layout of the park when it first opened. So clean, so fresh, so uncluttered. Themed areas actually existed. The Racer had a cool head chopper which has since been removed. Those were the good old days for me.
