  1. It's a lot less expensive to play a CD rather than repairing and maintaining the instrument.
  2. Yes! And by May, both loops will be totally underground and underwater - not to mention haunted too - by the same ghosts that haunt The Beast. NOT!!!! This is about the umteenth thread of this topic - please check your search option. And welcome to KIC, where you're bound to hear this question come up again at least twice more before next season begins!
  3. Oh, but if they paint it red, it will go faster! (old Polish "lady thinking")
  4. Back on topic..... If KI decides they don't like the paint color choice for FD, maybe they could send the paint crews, with the leftover paint, up to my place in Toledo and do the indside of my house. It's not the exact color I want, but if it's free and the labor is too, what the heck. I'm still wondering if there won't be an additional color added to FD before all is said and done. It's not like CF to be blah with paint. The Charles Mann Co. here in Toledo has painted coasters for CF in the past. I personally know Chuck Mann and he told me that even though each job requires specially mixed colors, CF demanded more brilliance and, because of the weather conditions, more durability. Painting a coaster isn't cheap. Now, I don't know the answer to this, but if a private company was contracted to paint FD, the present "color" may be as far as they go. Howeverm if it's being done "in park", maybe there's more to come.
  5. Since my eye surgery, I HAVE TO wear sunglasses everytime I go out of the house - even if the sun is not shining brightly - due to those rays. When I ride coasters, off they come, but when the train pulls back into the station, they're back on my face. (most of the on ride pics of me show me "naked", and since I always wear glasses, I NEVER look like myself, so I don't buy the photo and I save a bit of money!)
  6. I'm to the point where, as long as a ride is properly maintained (including the way it looks), keep it. I feel there will be precious few parks someday with operating coasters like we now have. They will have the new track, ala Texas Giant, and new steel concoctions but then everyone will want what we have now, and it will have become too expensive to duplicate. Paint the tracks any color you want - just keep the rides going!

    The bat

The major problem I see with suspended coasters is that in order to make them lengthy enough, like a regular coaster, you would have to increase the lift hill heigth or have numerous lift hills as the track's circuit needs to keep sloping downwards. The Bat was a dual lift hill configuartion which provided a decent ride time whereas Flight Deck has only one lift hill, and no MCBR, and although paced well, it has a very short ride time. The swinging cars of The Bat made for quite a wild ride and it was unfortunate that it was a maintainance nightmare - if a different system could have been invented that would have been more durable when it came to supporting/absorbing side to side motions, I believe the ride woould still be in operation today. And I must say that those old Bat cars and the cars from Chessington do look similar!
  8. Good one! Loose women, spinning around at 25mph & then dropping, might be worth seeing!
  9. Another humorous thought....... They might not separately charge you to RIDE it, but may charge you to get off of it! (PLUS the extra dollar for the cheap glasses!). ANYTHING for an extra buck in Mr. K's pocket.
  10. ^ CoastersRZ, I was being humorous and did not expect anyone to take me seriously - however, there's always that chance that CF could try to pull-off something like that and........
  11. Are you attempting to "tell me off" or say "I'm nuts" or what? I started-off the post by saying it might be far fetched - I just know that in ANY business, if an extra buck can be made, it should be made. Whether or not the pay-per-ride things ever happens or not was not the intent of the post. I just like to try and think like the "rich people" might think - all the time remaining the poor Polish Boy that I am and will always be. Besides, IF it comes true, PREMiERdrum will buy me a beer - which I will gladly share with him. (I might even buy him his own, I'll be so darn tickled it happened).
  12. I know it may sound a bit far fetched, but I wouldn't put it past the current head honchos at Cedar Fair to make the new WindSeeker rides an extra charge, pay-per-ride attraction.
  13. Not entirely off subject, but one year, for Christmas Week, Cedar Point lit up all the coasters! It was a sight to behold! The cold, crisp, winter air, complete with frost crystals, gave a glitter that even Clement Clarke Moore wouldn't have been able to describe. Of course, Cedar Point is on a peninsula and viewing from several angles is possible whereas King's Island is "off to the side of the road" and there isn't much to view from almost anywhere. It would be a real treat if CP were to turn on the lights and show off their coasters again this Holiday season.
  14. Went behind KI today, in the Great Wolf lot, and saw a lift bucket under FD - painting? I didn't have my binoculars!
  15. I heard that in the winter months it dies - but in the spring, it comes to life again. Wait a minute - that's my peach tree! Son of a b...... It's just another rumor - and the chance of an employee knowing anything about SOB's future are about as good as my chance of winning Powerball!
  16. Kinda looks like parts for the new robo-coaster I've heard about (not that it's coming to KI, just that I read about it). - Hank, just goofin' on CoastersRZ's picture
  17. I have 8mm movies of most of those rides. If I can ever figure out how to get them on a DVD, I'll get them posted for all to see. Some of them are even on ride movies. Some of are KI, too, and some of those are on ride!
  18. I peeked at the CP TTD webcam at 3:30pm and could not believe a full parking lot! I would not want to be there on such a day - not when I can go in May and walk on almost every ride - not to mention, have my choice of stalls in the men's room!
  19. Somthing that wqould be unique is a children's version of Top Thrill Dragster - maybe about 20 feet tall with a single or two car train (actually could be longer). It wouldn't necessarily have to launch -there could just be LIM's or even the wheel devicve, similar to Flying Ace Aerial Chace (Runaway Reptar), propelling the train throughout the entire ride. I think it would be very fun!
  20. Although I am a bit older than the majority of the members of this site, I have not traveled much during my lifetime, mostly due to health restrictions. I have been on several coasters and ranking them would be very difficult for me. I have enjoyed all of them. I might say that "so & so" is one of my favorites, but I eagerly look forward to the different experiences on the various machines. Be they fast or slow, wood or steel, large or small, out in the open or enclosed, each coaster is unique - and to me, the variety of coasters in a park is more important than an extra mph of a few extra feet of height. That being said, MF is a very fast, very smooth machine. There may not be a whole lot of "super thrills" after the first drop, but the ride is fun. True coaster lovers should look for fun - they certainly don't like machines that beat the crap out of them (such as SOB). Which brings me to my last comment - as compared to coasters I rode during my younger years on this earth, almost anything is better than those "dinosaur" machines, except for a few of the classic coasters that are still around. There have been so many improvements on coasters, making them true thrill rides. I also believe that the best is yet to come - just be patient and you'll see!
  21. I'm sorry, but this is one of those awards based on who is asked - not everyone in the country that visited a park this year.
  22. Geeze - I thought that maybe Gillette sponsored the ride's under carraige BLADES for braking!
  23. I do apologize if I offended anyone with my Peanuts posting. I only meant to use it as an example of "putting the shoe on the other foot" to show yet another example of bad taste that most would not go for. However, with the comments made by others after my post, maybe a silly Peanuts routine wouldn't be so bad - as long as there was only slap-stick type comedy. Sure as hell beats the gore that we're usually exposed to!
