What is Kings Island REALLY going to get?
Gordon Bombay replied to familyguyfun1's topic in Coming Attractions
Yeah, because look at the locations that were sit down restaurants. (International Restaurant and Columbia Palace.) Both were extremely popular, always packed and made good to great money. Why would CF want to duplicate that? If CF does dupliate that, and I agree that they should, they need to duplicate the service those places used to give and not replicate the kind of food service you find now. -
Due to Vortex's great capacity though you hardly ever see it backed out onto the midway unless its only running limited trains or something.
-
Are you referring to when I took pictures at Splashing Safari? Also, Im possitive Kings Island did not allow him or his friends to take his camcorder on The Beast as he has done in The past, when he did not have permission.
-
Actually the water pumped into the final splash downs of the hydroflumes and the wild thronberrys flume flow in from a seperate reservoir behind the actual drop, the splash down parts hardly rely on water coming down the drop, try to watch wild thronerry's in the morning when it first starts up and they run their first boats of the morning. You can hardly tell that the drop has any water on it what so ever and the ride works just fine.
-
And if you want to know how to break every safety rule in a park TPR is the place to go! I hear the Alveys are not good friends with the Strickers family...
-
The boats jamming at the top was what did in the double drop at KI and most other parks that had the hydroflumes. I remember myself and my dad were talking to Jeff Seibert when getting off of Son of Beast in 2002 about Tomb Raider: The Ride and my dad telling Seibert about how he had gotten stuck on KCKC and had to be evacuated by ride ops along with other guests after his boat got jammed in the gate and a few stacked up behind it. (My dad is horribly afraid of heights so you can imagine the fun he had dealing with that). If you read the link I posted earlier about SFGAdv's hydroflume, it sheds more light on the jamming problem, at SFGAdv they had such a problem with it jamming that they stopped using the outer side back in 1988: From: http://www.amusementpics.com/Hydro%20Flume.htm That article is a must read for hydroflume fans. Just like KI's hydroflume, Great Adventures began waining in popularity after much more thrilling water attractions opened up at the park, it was also one of low priorities to get open on days with bad staffing and suffered high maintenance costs even back in the 80's when it almost met its first end.

Eventhough the kids are back in school the park stopped weekday operation last week so now your only times you can go are limited to weekends and labor day, all of which weather permitting draw a pretty strong crowd eventhough typically sundays aren't too bad. Haloween Haunt I believe is open during the week in the evenings sometime this october but with that event being free to season passholders, it could get pretty croweded.
-
I think Monday would be more crowded, sundays tend to be slower throughout the whole day. The longest wait I've seen for Beast on a sunday was last weekend whenit was at 20 minutes with two trains. Later when all 3 were going, it was about a 10 minute wait.
-
Where did you see hand brakes, they came into a set of brakes that slowed them down.
-
They've had one through the queue line of WWC the past two years I beleive. The one where you ride the train, get off, then go through.
-
The double drop was intended to allow for better capacity but eventually parks started to realize it didn't make that big of a difference and problems with the gate that switched between the two drops jamming boats eventually caused parks like Kings Island, Cedar Point, and Six Flags Great Adventure to stop using the double sides.
-
Power Tower is a joke, the launch sides are so boring, and the drop sides arent much better, nice view, but nothing exciting. And you need to factor in that cycles on Drop Zone move a lot quicker than cycles on Delirium and Delirium has a different loose article policy than Drop Zone. Ever since 2005 when Delirium suffered that lengthy summer downtime and they replaced the part, the cycles take longer for the ride to come back to the home position.

If Halloween Haunt is an upcharge for passholders...

Wonderland Unveils B & M Behemoth
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Behemoth looks like quite the good ride I cant wait to see what the other parks will be getting for 2008. I certainly hope 2008 capital spending for Cedar Fair isnt like 2005 was for Six Flags under old management. -
Well I agree on that point, I would still buy my pass regardless, as I would imagine a great majority of the passholders but when you market the event as included with park admission on your website and in your park all season then all the sudden you may change it (and it could still be either way, we still dont know for sure) then its very dishonest to your patrons. Im glad some things are going to be added to HH that may make it worth up charing for, excellent, I love the event, but I think its way too late to be marketing that especially when youve proclaimed it for free with park admission all year. Granted folks like us Brown wouldnt be too anoyed IF it happens, but the grand majority of the general season passholders do not read this site and may not be made aware of the changes or new event this year IF certain changes happen. All I'm saying is, for the park to possibly make this decision this late, they better do a good job of making the changes and prices known.
-
Brown, were'nt you just the one accusing delorean rider of starting up childish arguments? Come on now, were all friends here, lets just talk about KCKC instead of trying to start more useless bantering and flaming.

While I have no problem paying alittle extra for a great event and seeing the entertainment dept. being able to do more with it, I do wish CF wouldve have decided to make these supposed upcharge changes earlier in the year. Changing it now is very underhanded and sneaky especially when having it as free to passholders the past few years and even now we dont have an answer. Im willing to bet there are going to be many upset passholders massing at the front gates the first night of Haloween Haunt. Sure upcharging and doing more for the event to make it better is great, but they shouldve announced these changes at the start of the season or when passes went on sale and if they hadn't decided by now, they should've waited till next year.

Actually while both Universal parks license Nickelodeon charecters, Orlando was the only one to feature Nickelodeon studios where through the 90's a majority of live action Nick shows were filmed as well as a few live action Nick Jr. shows, most of the GAS shows, their game shows, and Slime Time Live. As of 2005 Nickelodeon shut down its filming operations on sound stages 18,19, and 21 and now does most of their filming in Burbank California, New York, and Vancouver. Nick studios is no longer based at Universal. In January 2006 the majority of the theming was removed from the "Nickelodeon back lot" area. Interpreter, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a Nickelodeon themed resort hotel outside of Walt Disney World? I can't remember if that is part of the Disney resort system as I remember it being fairly close to where we stayed in 2004, does Disney pay to license Nick entities from Viacom then?

List of Halloween Haunt Attractions and Desc.
Gordon Bombay replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Well said Karen, as much as I love Fearfest and I have the utmost respect for KI's entertainment department, the houses really are not wheel chair accessible at all and that is very unfair. -
List of Halloween Haunt Attractions and Desc.
Gordon Bombay replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
If it's really THAT much better (which I have faith it will be!) then I would have no problem paying $10-12 for it. I enjoy the event and dont have a problem shelling out 10-12 bucks for it but when season passes went on sale and I purchased mine under the impression that it was included with Park Admission I think I'd be pretty annoyed let alone how much of an uproar it would cause with the general public. Sure it be nice to deliver a little more quality for the event, I'm all for improving the event as its a lot of fun, but I think its pretty stupid for Cedar Fair to charge for it, IF they charge for it, when theyve been advertising it as free with park admission in the park maps ALL YEAR and sold passes to guests who were told and under the impression that the event was included with park admission. If CF does charge for it, they should probably announce that sooner and not later and maybe change the map advertisements! -
Up untill my visit yesterday they STILL were advertising Fearfest on the park maps

Rail Rider once again, congratulations on the addition to your family! I'm glad to see you had such a good time, wonderful photos and slide show. Heres to many more memories to come for your family at Kings Island!
