What is Kings Island REALLY going to get?
Gordon Bombay replied to familyguyfun1's topic in Coming Attractions
Obviously we cannot argue with that. If it came from Six Flags it has to be true, after all, that's where all the Dip N' Dots guys report to for their info. Of course they are, because obviously there is so much extra room to build back there. Plenty of room for 3 new flat rides, a bathroom and some shops. No need to worry about the fact that wood coaster maintainence headquarters is right on the other side of the fence, or that gaming storage, no I'm sure they'll just build right down the road, just build out in one direction like Six Flags America going to Batwing. Then eventually they'll connect the pathway around Son of Beast so that people can walk around and come up the maintainence stairs into SOB's station. Its all so practical. Close Nick, but you didnt quite get it. They have no intention of all of connecting it t teh SOB area, however, you were correct abotu Six Flags America, eventually X Base will continue that way untill it reaches Batwing, connecting the parks, forming one mega park. Im so glad emo beaver released this info, its time the public knew. "Six Flags America Island of Kings presented by Cedar Fair." Featuring: Batwing and Firehawk....dual flying coasters. -
Geauga Lake Petition

More than just the 50 full time positions. Just because a job is seasonal doesn't mean its insignifigant. I worked with plenty of folks at KI who were teachers trying to make some extra money and a seasonal job can be VERY beneficial to a college student. The jobs lost by the closing of the rides side could have a signifigant effect on the local economy depending on the demographics of where the workers lived and commuted from. Full time means you work year round. Those 50 full time employees he was referring to worked at the park on salary 12 months a year. -
I last went to Coney about 8 years ago when the python was new. I remember riding the scrambler over and over and over and the section of sunlite pool where you can stand and feel the water shoot up on your feet. I went to Riverbend this summer and saw the rock o plane (which looks great) from the car but I havent rideen a ride at Coney is 8 years.

Geauga Lake Petition

Well said JZ, even the seasonal part time jobs that are lost are a big deal to the people who once had them available. That part time job at the amusement park helped put a lot of people through school, gave them good work expereince (many their first time) and kept a lot of kids active and out of other less desirable activities. I worked at KI as a rides supervisor and have worked many other part time jobs in retail and food and KI was definently one of the best experiences I had. You'd be surprised at how much someone can learn at a young age about the world and other forms of business from just a seasonal job at a place like KI, GL, or CP. For example, after just one season of working at KI I was able to land a job as a sales associate at a newly opened Best Buy. There was a lot of competition for that position and from the experience and knwoledge i gained from working one year at KI about customer service, working as a team, realising your own potential is what secured that job for me. I even got promoted from seasonal at Best Buy to part time and I attribute that success with what I learned from working at KI. The "no big deal" seasonal job can be a great stepping stone for eventually advancing your career and its a shame Aurora will lose the GL job market (although with the exception of WWK) -
Geauga Lake Petition

It's easy for you or I to stand on the outside and judge those dealing with the situation, although it had been rumored to close for awhile now most sites, news articles, and locals were up beat and hope Cedar Fair would do well. Turns out CF, just didnt care at all and really made little effort to try and bring it up to the standards of their other park. I bet you would be pretty upset is KI or CP unexpectedly closed after the season ended when just two weeks before the head of your company talked about his hopes for the park for the next season. You would possibly cry too, its hard to say, you and I arent dealing with the situation. The petition is a noble effort, but will CF care? Probably only if you send it to them attached with a 20 dollar bill and note saying "Please read". They didn't care to do much to improve GL (they even cut back and cancelled plans to expand their water park they keep talking about) and the locals never came back. -

Not to mention they alreayd fired a majority of their full time employees. While the petition is noble and I respect what you guys are trying to do, whats done is done. Uhm, maybe while this GL peition may not accomplish much, I wouldn't be so quick to denoucne petitions. Petitions do commonly work and can be a very effective tool. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petition -

If that was direct quote from a park spokesperson, than it should have been noted in the article. -

My apoligies, I was incorrect on the name. However the article is still misleading as to the fate of the rides, nothing has been officialy announced. -

Your forgetting though that CF never added any major rides to the rides side at GL where as their first full year of owning KI they brought in Firehawk and while Winterfest may be gone, they've increased the budget and quality of Halloween Haunt. I dont see a pattern. Leave it to the Toledo Blade to not do their research as usual. Cedar Fair L.P. was re-named Cedar Fair Entertainment Company over a year ago, there has never been any official statement on behalf of CF of what will become of the rides on the rides side. If you read the blade you lead to believe all rides and attractions will be relocated, they just say that, dont even have a quote or an official source for that statement. Lazy reporting by the Blade as usual. -

While that is true, just remember, it was not SF's intention to close Geauga Lake, where as Cedar Fair... -

Well thats fine, but you know, you should probably have some educated and supportive reasoning to back up your statement. SF had people coming to the park, SF was keeping the animals. CF got rid of the animals, gave the finger to the local unions, and CF closed the rides side. -

Read one of the articles in the multiple links posted throughout this topic or go to www.geaugalake.com they've stated that the park will become exclusively a water park. Cedar Fair definently did not do all they had to do to improve the park, but they still came out the winners in this investment. Cedar Fair would not have bought the park from Six Flags unless it was moderately sucessful, they wouldn't just buy a useless product. Everyone assumses CF were these good doers out to right the wrongs that SF had done to GL. That is very incorrect. GL under Six Flags had been pretty sucesful, it was the result of poor management on SF's part and poor numbers chain wide that caused SF to let GL go. At the time (Pre-Shapiro Management) Six Flags was in worse debt than they are now, selling GL was a good way to try and earn some money back and get their chain back in focus (whether or not they turned the company around is another story and argument). CF bought the park for what I call the "Lego Bin" theory. They purchased the park, if it was still succesful under their ideas, then great, they have another profitable park in the chain, if the park wasn't sucessful, then they could sell valuable lake side land to a developer and all those rides in the park could be relocated and used as new attractions at their other parks, used for spare parts throughout the chain, or just added to other parks for cheap "new" attractions. If GL was unsucessful under their ideas, then they had a full "Lego Bin" of rides they could use throughout the chain for various reasons. In this case, they built the waterpark which has become very sucessful so theyll leave that up and continue to make a profit. The land will sell, probably to a retail developer (who will probably offer more money than CF paid SF for the land) and then they'll have plenty of rides, spare parts, and all kinds of stuff they can use to support their other parks without having to invest in brand new attractions all the time. From a business standpoint, Cedar Fair wins. They'll make a profit on the land, have a surplus of spare attractions, and still have a profitable water park on the other side. Cedar Fair wins, while the residents, guests, fans, and local residents lose. -

The debt loaded Cedar Fair will probably sell it as its probably very valuable. New at GL in 2008: Lakeside Condos! I wonder if they'll clear it out as fast as SF cleared out AstroWorld. JZ, in regards to Moxhala, I was in Zanesville last weekend photogrpahing an abandoned prison and had the opportunity to stop by where Moxhalla used to be, not much was left excet a few relics, but the coaster is totally gone. -

Why was he chasing the kid?

Well I'm sure there are plenty of experts over at Point Buzz (note: sarcasm) However the proper term is footings, as our local UC architect so kindly pointed out.
-
Sure it does, whats wrong with using the proper terminology? some people don't under stand what your saying EX:1)Griffion stands on 53 footings OR 2)Griffion stands on 53 footers number 2 just makes more sence sorry for mis-spelled words Sort of like how people don't understand what you are saying when multiple ways of using spell check is right at your disposal?
