^And that my friends is why Hauntguy should be planning PKI's fearfest! Those ideas are so awesome, I especially like what you said about the circus of horros idea, i always wondered why they didnt put it in that tent next to the showplace and make it like a circus. I like the grunge/industrial idea, I was really pleased with the workzone this year and to see that on a much larger scale in AZ would be excellent. The park really went all out on Fearfest this year and even when its been crowded its been a great time and has only gotten better as the weeks have gone on.

It varies, usually its just up the park managements discression. Most of the wood coasters (excluding SOB) will be open and most of the rides should be ok. The steel coasters are primarily designed for warmer temps so they may close depending on how the temp. gets but like I said its usually up to the management and maintenances discretion. Regardless, there were will still be lots to do and plenty of fun, and although its cold be prepared for crowds. Hope you guys have a great time and hope your little brother has an excellent burthday!

I dont know if anyoen remembers from back in 2005 when there was a fire at one of the plants where the trains were being assembled. But, on the IJST construction tour the question was posed to Seibert and he said that the fire had not damaged, but delayed production of the trains. Three were originally sent to PCW, two to PKI. One of the three was moved from PCW to PKI so each would have two. Premeir was able to finish the third train for each park on time for their rides to open to the public. PKI doesnt have the facilities to construct a new train even if they had the blue prints, they could assemble it though as long as Premeir had fabricated it. As far as I know, all three trains are the same, except for one which has a special door on its white car to allow easier acess for persons with certain dissabilities. I remember the question was also asked to Seibert about temprature and wind and what the computer of the ride would display. As far as what I remember what he said and from the requirements I remember from working there, the only real weather condition that had a major effect on IJ was the cold (excluding the general ones for all rides like rain, hail, lightning etc.) The steel coasters can not run in colder temps that the wooden coasters are allowed to. I know Todd, hes a great guy and an excellent employee, but most of the time the rumors that fly around that rides dept. are just as good and bad as the rumors on here or those other sites. All 3 trains are probably the same but maybe someone from tech services could answer us since they repaired the audio systems........oh wait.....they didnt. It's strange how PKD's and PCW's audio works.

Actually Rail Rider, the exact quote of that guy was: "I will no longer go to Kings Island untill they put the camprground back in. I will not support an organization that does not support all forms of lodging" And so, the revolutionary boycot of Kings Island began... ...and failed.

While I dont doubt you Don, but where did you hear that?

^Cedar Fair does not allow minors to hold supervisor positions in rides.

It was good seeing you again RZ and getting to talk with you breifly. Yes, walk ons everywhere but it was soooo cold. There was also a special guest in the park today! Allen Sarven and his family were visiting the park today. Allen Sarven is better known by his ring name "Al Snow" from the former World Wrestling Federation and now World Wrestling Entertainment. He's originally from Lima ohio. He was also featured in The Beast 25th anniversary video which aired in The Beast que line in 2004 and 2005. This was the 2nd time I met him at PKI, he's an extremely friendly guy. Best wishes to his future career and to his family.

Well thats what I heard form a employee and how do you know it was having technical difficulties.........See please back it up with common sense. I'm a former employee of the park and returned these last few weeks to give them a hand in understaffed areas, the ride last night and today was having technical problems. I went through the worksite last weekend with IJ working and last night it was working with the worksite going untill they had some sort of difficulty. Why would they worry about a flame that doesnt give in direct ligth in the area that would "reveal" anything when a guest probably could just use a keychain flashlight in the haunt that would be more effective.

Originally, the former spokesperson for the park, jeffery seibert, said that the plan was to close the campground, build the GWL on its former location, then re-build a newer campground similar to the new one carowinds received in the rear area of Son of Beast on what used to be parts of the wild animal habitat. Whether or not these plans are still in motion or if theyve been altered are still to be seen. That was the plan under Viacom/CBS owned Paramount parks, now who knows with Cedar Fair.

The flame was having technical difficulties and has ran before with the worksite being there, please use common sense.

Halloween Scares Mental Health Advocates
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island
I can see these people's point, but anyone who thinks a mental institution is like that now is a complete idiot. But unfortuanently thats the way the world is and people get their impressions from things like these and will be stupid and assume this is what mental treatmetn centers are like. However, they're not anymore, so instead of whining to stop the attractions why dont they spend those efforts promoting how beneficial psychiatric treatment is these days for those who need it? Im glad the park for once didnt fear the bad press, although sometimes its always in their best interest to, this new attitude reminds me of how the other CF guest relations attitudes are, not always guest friendly. However I'll applaud the park for keeping up the attraction and I think that group, instead of comlaiing, should re-driect their forces to promote their cause in a beter way. How far are they gonna next? Remove one flew over the cuckoos nest from all the video stores, book stores, and librarys? There will always be negative and wrong images of things in life, its human nature to create them, they're wasting theyre time trying to defeat that, instead they should re focus their efforts and promote the benefits and good that comes from modern day psychiatric treatment. -
^Sweet, thats good to hear, glad to see they're still doing that and moved it to a better location. Did anyone else see the new PT charecter out? The guy with the flash light who lacks legs and used to "float" in the theatre is now floating around outside, the flash light clicks on and off and they even have the audio track playing.

The chain is only allowed to go so far, not by a computer, but by how it physically is made. Theres less computer involved than you thing, there is physical restraint on the catch car and "chain" so that it never could pull the cars off the edge and say you removed those safe guards and let the chain pull forever, the trains would be stopped at the top, the track just doesnt end into nothingness.

So you think Camden Park is ghetto?
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Looks like a nice little family friendly park, I'd even say more family friendly than PKI or HW. From what the video showed it reminded me a lot of how Americana used to be, not just before it closed, but before Jerry Couch had the criminal carnival run it. If I had smaller kids I'd rather to take them to a place like this, dont get me wrong NU is a fantastic place for children but when its crowded its a mess and the lines can be excrutiatingly long for a child. This place had a Kite Flyer before KI and has some classic coasters. I'm glad to see this park still being able to do pretty well just as I am to see Coney Island in cicny do well. My niece and nephew came to visit for the weekend back in June and on Saturday I took them to Coney, I hadnt been in awhile. They had more fun there than they did at PKI the next day, they're pretty young though so im sure someday they'll prefer PKI. Thanks for posting the video interpreter, it so nice sometimes to escape the giant theme park corporations for nice small park charm. -
^I wonder if maybe theyre going to move the concert series over there so the music doenst conflict with the undertaker and other music and noise theming on I street. Plus the I street stage was bad for having the bands play, people stood right on the stairs and right in front of the band. This is a pretty good move I think, no wmaybe more people will stop and watch, too bad all the bands they've had so far have been awful.

Well your in for dissapointment, Cedar Fair already stated theyre going to keep going in the direction that was sucessful for Kings Island and that was marketing towards familys. This has proven to be sucessful for seasonal theme parks compared to just adding massive coasters that bring in nothing but trouble. Look at Magic Mountain, for the past 10 years they've added a new coaster about every other year and sometimes in back to back years, its done nothing for their attendance, nothing for their revenue, and now Six Flags is entertaining bids for the park. Cedar Point had attendance flops with Millenium Force and Top Thrill Dragster, so now they're starting to gear towards rides that better suit everyone like Maverick, not the most intense ride or tallest or fastest, but a lot more people will be able to ride it or will be interested in riding it. Kinzel already stated he wants to keep Kings Island in the marketing direction it was going in. POS paramount? I think not, maybe POS CBS, but not Paramount. Paramount was far better than that crook Linder and paramount put a lot into the park. Sorry bud, but no 500 ft tall rocket coasters going 200 mph for you next year, at Cedar Point or Kings Island. Family Fun!

Those seem likely, but what is Canada's Wonderlands waterpark like? Could they possibly be getting a waterpark expansion to or do they even have one?

What else do you think needs refurbished at PKI?
Gordon Bombay replied to adam47303's topic in Kings Island
I have been visiting this park every summer since 1984. I remember the last time I visited the park before the bathrooms were renovated they had the manual turn on turn off faucet handles and not the automatic faucetts with the electric eyes above on the backsplash the sinks. I remember the tiles used to be hospital white from top to bottom. Now the tiles are kind of a taupe color with a semi-checkerboard pattern. One thing that still hasn't changed was the tericatta tile floor. I have never ever visited a Cedar Fair park before they took over Kings Island. I have been to privately owned and paramount parks. I am estimating about $20000 per operating day on paper towels by the case. The first time I saw the automatic sinks were on Saturday, July 13, 1996. I remember that day the beacons on the Eiffel Tower was blinking in seven different patterns. They had the old rectangular beacons to strobe from top to bottom on each side one at a time. First off, where did you get the estiamte for paper towel costs when you dont know how many rolls Kings Island uses per day, dont know what they pay per roll, how many rolls they order per day? Second, the bathrooms may have first gotten the autmoatic sinks on July 13, 1996 since you seemed to have written in a journal about that along with some eifel tower strobe lights but speaking as atleast a former park employee who worked in both operations and ecology, I can guarantee you that the upkeep of the restrooms is an on-going process, and every restroom, yes every restroom, has had TLC done to it more than once within the past decade. The best example is the Action Zone restrooms, these have newer Delany toilers and automatic flushers/sinks than those in Rivertown. In 2000, the I-street restrooms got the same ones as Action Zone and in 2001 all of the restrooms in Coney Mall were upgraded. Last year in 2005 all of the Rivertown restrooms were given a lot of TLC and have newer equipment than even the AZ and I street ones. This year I did not work for the park however, if you visit any restroom in Nick U. you will notice that the NU restrooms have had a lot done to them. Its not like the restrooms were ignored since 1996. That would be quite convienent. -
The Festhaus is fine as is, its too big to be a sit down restauraunt and its a nice place to come and go thats open to everyone. If it was a sit down restauraunt, only the people buying food would be allowed to sit in there and enjoy the air conditioning, with the way it is now you can go in there and dont even have to get a glass of water. I think the only thing that needs changed in it is the food selections, more options than just pizza.

I personally liked SOB. From 2000-2004 I never went near it, maybe tried it once a year. However, I felt that PKI did an amazing job of work in the past offseason and that SOB was great this year. Granted, if you still sat on a wheel you got a pretty rough ride but I wouldnt say it was any worse than The Beast or Racer. However Im pretty tall and pretty big so I didnt move that much. But when I didnt ride on a wheel I found Son of Beast to be one of my favorite coasters. However, you should be able to enjoy a ride by sitting anywhere, rules of thumb made by guests shouldnt have to be in effect. The ride should just be there for everyone to enjoy. In this case Son of Beast already had a tainted reputation but now its just even worse. I think Cedar Fair is really just wondering about their pocket books though. They did just spend 1.2 Billion Dollars. They've had to make similar decisions in the past at other parks like in Pennsylvania....

If there was a display out they would've had a press release inviting members of the press to come see the display and get information so they could spread it through media outlets thus promoting it for the park. Since the park is also trying to sell season passes for next season I'm sure they would want to start promoting it as soon as possible and that it would have been on their website already. While its definently a possibility that something like this could happen, another survivor the ride, nothing yet has been confirmed at any of the newly aquired paramount parks, or atleast told to the public. It's not really proof, Cedar Fair already promised to honor the 2007 capital investments, whether or not they use the trademarks is what the real question is. Since the contracts are in motion there was never really a question whether or not Cedar Fair would be building what CBS already had planned. I'll give the topic starter credit for being clever and sounding pretty convincing. He did a good job of lying. A survivor ride is a good possibility for what teh CBS owned parks had planned however he had one little slip up that gives it all away: Do you really think that CBS, the company that came in this season and slashed the budgets and spending like crazy on almost everything and was putting the parks up for sale, a company that raised ticket and food prices that wanted to make their bottom line look better, was going to give anything away for free? I think not.

^Then if your not a mod or admin why are you scolding me for it? Why not report it to them and not contradict yourself?

Thats awesome to hear Avatar. You must be having one wonderful trip! I didnt go to Disney untill I was 15 and I was awe struck by it and it was great seeing my sisters, at the time 10 and 11, who claimed they were too big for disney movies, get into it again and get their picturtes and autographs will all the charecters. Yeah, the coasters at Disney world in flordia might not be the best in the world, but all around its one of the best parks, if not the best, in the world.
