Does anyone remember back when Kodak sponsored "photo spots" which were wooden markers with the Kodak logo on them places throughout the park as to where good photographic oppopurtunitys were that were good to photogrpah for even the most novice of photographers? I partiuarly remember the one by Vortex off the path from Rivertown to Coney where you can see the rides whole lay out. I know they used to point these out on the old park maps so does anyone else remember where they used to be or can anyone make a list from the old park maps? Did they change around each season and before Kodak sponsored it was there anything similar to this. I would like to see if you fellow PKIC members will help me compile a list of where spots used to be. Please make the lists like this for example: 1999 Park Map Photo Spots: 1)Vortex path from Coney to Rivertown 2)Top Gun exit path 3)Etc. 4)Etc. 5)Etc. Your help is greatly apprecaite as this helps contribute to historical information and a project Im currently working on to find old areas that were considered photgraphic landmarks by the park in the past and showing how they look today. Old postcard information is good too. Thanks for the help everyone and interest!

Son of Beast To Be Partly Rebuilt
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
^No, please read the artricle, they HAVE to rebuild the section and replace sections that the state wants taken away for analysis, then they may have the re-built sections tested and considered for re-certification under the supervision of an independently contracted state engineer. THE INVESTIGATION IS NOT OVER YET, this is still part of the investigation which HAS NOT RELEASED THE FULL DETAILS OFF THE INCIDENT AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE INCIDENT TO OCCUR, the testing and possible re-opening of the ride can not occur untill the state has finished their investigation. -
Son of Beast To Be Partly Rebuilt
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
Everyone needs to remember that what was announced today is still part of the states investigation, parts must be re-built so they can take current parts for analyzing to continue the investigation, this does not mean the coaster will re-open! Please pay attention when you read. The articel says that they arent rebuilding parts to get it open but so that the state investigators can investigate current structure work for the continuation of investigation. -
^I will be riding Steel Venom this friday!

Shot Glasses, I have well over 60.

Ahhh, cut him some slack, it was an honest mistake and he probably doesnt know what the object in question is. I read what you wrote Paul and understood what you meant ride away. As far as I know at PKI they dont make you take glasses off, where were you told to Cpt. Picard? I rode many rides the other day with my sunglasses on.

Let me answer this one for Sparky: "No."

^I feel for the screechin eagle with you, and I was kidding about you being over rated, I'm a big fan of your posts on here. We met once I think.

^So did The Beast even abck in the day when I used to work there, I believe Vortex Demon is referring to freshly painted green boxes that have been put in new positions on the load and unload sides of many coasters. I was up at teh park for a fe whours today and saw them.
-
Sure, if I can find them and if the scanner works. Probably in a few days, and if i can find them I'll PM you cause I'll be working all day for the next few days. You can use google too.

^hahah the interpreter knows more about marketing and how decisions are made in parks than you will probably ever know, pay attention to what he says, youll learn a lot. Forums dont always offer the best demogrpahic of opinions, especially amusement park forums, they usually consist of coaster coveting thrill seekers and kids, not the average soccer mom or family dad who will be the main focus of getting to the park to empty their wallets. Some parks have done nothing but market to these thrill seekers and put in the tallest and fastest but not the most reliable rides, it has neglected the family and caused them loss of profites and attendance like what has happened recently at Cedar Point. Some parks have been able to reach out to thrill seekers and the fmaily at the same time by offering multiple new family attractions. Know the park I'm talking about? SFGADV does things right!

PKI marketed SOB as the the ONLY wooden looping coaster, not the first. I have many books with old photos of looping woodies from the early 1900's. Most of them had cirlce shaped loops instead of the tear drop shape like you see today and they werent very sucessful back then. It wasn't untill Anton Scwhartzkoph built the revolution that the modern looping coaster really took off. SOB is the first modern looping wooden coaster, but not the first in history by any means.

^There is an RCT3 recreation of Carowinds that was decent, i think carowindszone has it.
-
^werent you the one who reported attendance and profits up 33% this year? I admit I was wrong, but the faxct still remains that PKI is a scuessful park because they are geared towards families, the thrill seeker aspect hasnt done much good for other parks.
-
Actually StXstevenI wasnt angry at anything you said, just pointing out your lack of intelligence, you say the locals are bored, if the locals are broed why does attendance increase every year?
-
Great trip report avatar, its nice to see familys still having a great time and making a day out of it even on one of the more crowed days. If your daughter wants to start brushing up on being a ride op she can check out some of admiral ackbars scketches of the control pannels Great TR! I really enjoyued reading it!

This is why you dont have a future in marketing (well maybe in CF's with that attitude) Tough luck? Why cant it be fun for the whole family? I bet youll be saying otherwise when your older and cant handle the intense rides and want something nice to do with your kids. In some cases, the theme can be jsut exciting as the ride, PKI didnt always do a good job of this in some cases but did do it well in other cases. CP gets best park award because of other things they do, not jsut cause they break records, they have an extremely clean park with an extremely disciplined staff among other many things and ammenities. Theres another reason why parks are geared towards families....they bring in the money. PKI has had attendance boosts and profit increases even amongst their budget cuts because they build family rides and expand kids areas and this year they're doing better than ever. Just ask the interpreter who pointed out a 33% increase in profits according to forbes. CP has suffered in attendance lately because they seem to be ignoring the family aspect. This is why KI suceeds, they offer something for everyone. A massive kids area, and lots of thrills. They have the perfect mix and they succeed. You will soon see that CP cant keep gearing themselves towards thrill seekers, because its already been proven it doesnt work. Look at SFMM, it has more coasters than any park, and has a lot of thrills, they even added tatsu this year. An insanely large flying coaster. They get a new big coaster almost every 2 years. Yet, every year it suffers attendance drops and losees and now its for sale. Six Flags has realized they cant keep using the "buy a new park and give it a B&M" attitude. It doesnt work, thats why shapiro has now geared SF towards familys and its working. Families, something for everyone, its what parks were intended for and its what works for parks from a guest satisfaction and business standpoint. Its all plain to the eye to see.

^If you wanted to save people time, you didnt need to recreate the same topic again, instead you oculdve just searched for it to make sure it already existed or didnt exist, then commented on it instead of recreating it. Hence the rule.
-
Whose it hurting? The peopel who wanna find the information when they search, its just more convienent to have it in one place, not a million topics about the same thing. I didnt make the rule, I just pointed it out to you, no need to whine.

^Your a supervisor under 18? Back in the day when I used to work for the park in the rides department and games department you had to be 18 to be a sup but I dont remember for the toher departmetns. When I visit as a guest these days I notice some food sups who definently dont act liek theyre 18 so whats up with the park these days?

Kentucky Kingdom Troubles?
Gordon Bombay replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Everyone on this topic seems to think this is a death toll for SFKK but if SFKK is doing so bad then how come it isnt one of the 6 parks SF listed as for possible sale? -
*rollseyes* Please follow the T.O.S. and search before recreating the same topic over and over. Theres alreayd a few topics on this subject. Topic 1 Topic 2 Topic 3
