North Myrtle 'Amusement Park' Approved
RailRider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
As is the Pavillion Nostalgia Park at Broadway at the Beach and the excelent Family Kingdom, plus no trip to the beach is complete without a ride on Swamp Fox... -
Ahhh the onsets of motion sickness. Best way to overcome these issues is to make sure you are hydrated and not with soda but water and also have something in your stomach, but not too much. I always recomend Dramimine atleast one hour before visiting the park and make sure you have something in your stomach before you take it. Lasts all day and helps prevent motion sickness. Make sure you get the non-drowsy.

Is Disney Phoning It In?
RailRider replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Very interesting arguement from both sides. Coming from someone who has been to Disney just a few times I am amazed at the lack of new attractions most of the time or between visits. When I think of an attraction I think of something like Expediditon Everest not a new show or resturant. Honestly those do not draw guests to the parks, major attractions do. And Jesse Im not sure if you have experienced the Revenge of the Mummy or not, but that is one of the most amazing attractions ever, better than anything Disney has produced. Also I think you will find the quality of BGT and SeaWorld above Animal Kingdom. Enjoy... Plus Disney usually takes a few years to construct a new attraction and Im pretty sure nothing major is going on right now, while Universal is set to open, HRRR and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Disney continues to rely on the fact they are Disney. Dont get me wrong, I love Disney and the experience and cannot wait to take my daughter, but I am disappointed by their usual lack of major new attractions. -
I believe that may be the remnents of the ill fated Trailer Tower that existed during Diamondback construction

Thats a quick way to get this thread shut down. You are walking a fine line my friend. Edit Not offensive Smurfy just dont want to see you get a post pulled because that was close to TOS.

Probably the one memory of ride ops was at Busch Gardens Williamsburg on Drachen Fire. I took my first ride with a full train and during the ride it started to rain lightly. As we got back to the station it was full, but nobody wanted to ride in the rain, the ops said the ride would stay open if anyone wanted to keep ridding. Like any enthusiast I marathoned the ride for 12 circuits in a steady rain. Just me on the train and every time the train pulled back in the station the ride op on the mic would comment about the beating I was taking, by the mid point the ops were cheering me on to keep going. After completing my 12th circuit I crawled out of the train, face bright red from being pelted by rain and brain scrambled from the extremely rough ride Drachen Fire provided, 2 ride ops helped me out of the train as they all clapped and the rest of the station clapped. The Op on the mic made a comment he hadn't seen a beating like that outside of a Bruce Lee movie. I sat in the station for a few minutes afterwards to recover and eventually left to join the rest of my party. Before the night was over I went back to Drachen Fire for one more ride and the same Ops were there. When I got in the train the Op on the mic made sure to tell the entire station what I had done earlier in the day and that they should all clap for me. Pretty cool experience, I don't think my brain has ever been right since though.

Former Hard Rock Park has a new name
RailRider replied to nhimes90's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Freestyle Music Park Ticket Prices Interesting explanation on Screamscape, but very interesting no mention of taxes rolled in to cost on FMP website. This may be the case, but it makes me wonder... FMP needs to be more careful with actions like this because since this has been noticed, negative chatter has ran rampant online. Negative publicity is not good publicity for this park. -
I think you are on to something here, how about Mike Rowe comes in and helps clean the park during the offseasson. Especially the gum wall, I think that would be an awesome episode of Dirty Jobs. I think Don needs to email the Dirty Jobs website with this idea, maybe do it during Haunt so Mike can help set it up and then take a spin on DB at the end of the day. Great publicity for the park.

Former Hard Rock Park has a new name
RailRider replied to nhimes90's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Agreed Terpy, absolutely the worst strategy I have ever seen. I can understand an admissions jump latter in the seasson, but this early makes me wonder if the park is still open in July or August if they will not bump admission prices again. Maybe they should be concerned with attracting more guests than raising prices at the gates, because from what I hear crowds have been very light. -

Awesome bit of news about the park and an increase in admission prices. Seeing as how they obviously learned nothing from HRP failure, Freestyle has raised admission price for adults from $39.95 to $42.95 and childrens from $29.95 to $32.20. I must say this is an excelent move on FMP part. Good job one week down in to the seasson and its time to raise admission prices. Get ready for park failure #2. -
5. Black Mamba at Phantasialand - The confines of the theming around this coaster make it look amazing. 4. Expedition GeForce - Intamin Mega Coaster Goodness 3. El Toro SFGA - Intamin Plug and Play, absolutely on my list for future visits. 2. Evolution/Revolution at Bobbejaanland - The only other Vekoma Illusion constructed besides Chaos at Opryland and now the only one in existence. 1. Crystal Beach Cyclone - How could I pass up ridding this Harry Traver legend. The layout is one twist after another, a thing of beauty.

Agreed, that is why there are no gum walls at Disney. Then again they take the time every night after the park closes to remove gum and clean the park before the next day. Unfortuantely parks like KI under CF or PP and Six Flags does not take the time or the attention to detail to do such things, also a money factor.

millennium force cable
RailRider replied to raptorcp21's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
As said earlier steel cables can be visually inspected but that tells you absolutely nothing about what is going on inside with the numerous strands that make up the cable. There are very few warning signs of when a cable is going to break if there are no visual signs on the outside. To blame maientence for this is not right, unless they neglected to visually inspect the cable every day, which I highly doubt. Not the first time Millie has snapped a cable and not the last. -

^ Yeah Millie could be down for quite some time. A steel cable under tension can do great damage when it breaks. I have snapped a few in my life hauling logs and have seen them almost cut a large full size tree in half. I believe the Mythbusters were almost able to cut a pig in half with a steel cable that broke under tension. -

Not as much a weather thing as it is a load and tension thing. Its also an Intamin thing. How many skyrides cables just snap? They are out in the elements too. -
I still don't understand why parks dont focus on food service more. After all if you want per caps up you need to make it worth while and not forcing folks to leave the park for something else. Besides the food service mentioned at Busch, Universal, and Disney parks, how about what Dollywood offers. Absolutely the best food park I have ever been too, although the fried chicken at Opryland was in a league of its own. Some have mentioned Holiday World and while they do a great job with cost and service, I find the quality very lacking, but like Terpy said you cannot have all 3.

Too many Intamins in one park has lead to some major issues for CP. Lots of ride downtimes, especially as they get older. -

Well Freestyle Music Park opened as planned over the weekend. Article from the Sun News regarding opening along with some pictures from opening day. Looks like a good turnout for seasson pass processing, but the park looks fairly empty. The SunNews Pictures of Opening Day Also for those interested, Nights In White Satin is reopened as Monsters of Rock, a mainly 2-D dark ride shooter, that has gotten not so great reviews. In less than 48 hours HRP errr FMP will open its doors, that is if the current lawsuit is overturned. WMBF Interesting article on the changes at the park and what to expect. I am still amazed at ticket prices and that there is not a starlight admission. Especially seeing as how during the first two weeks the park will only be open from 4pm to 10pm, yet you still pay full price as you would when the park is open 11am to 10pm. That makes no sense, the pricing strategy makes no sense honestly. -
Going through the pictures I am amazed that the entire ramp structure sits on quite a few scissor jacks. Very ingenious and a simple solution to leveling the entire ramp. I just hope those were not acquired from the trunks of cars sitting in the parking lot.

HurlFest yet no ERT on Hurler? Interesting.

That is awesome, it holds a spot in my top ten as well. Great ride and I still can't believe that the park was paved over and Six Flags let Chaos rust away in a field in Indiana.

I stopped counting at 100 and right now I am roughly somewhere between 150 and 160, best estimate. Rather than post the ones I have ridden I thought it would be more interesting to post a few of the coasters I have ridden that are now defunct and I wish I could ride again. King Cobra (KI) Demon (KI) Thunderbolt Express (Camden Park) Drachen Fire (BGW) Big Dipper (GL) Chaos (Opryland) Screamin' Delta Demon (Opryland) Wabash Cannonball (Opryland) These are ones that just stick to the top of my mind.
