The biggest thing I want to see is stricter enforcement of the rules - especially dress codes and the smoking policy. Last time I was at the park, I saw someone wearing a shirt that said "How about a nice cup of shut the f*** up" - except that it wasn't censored. I also saw a girl wearing a t-shirt with the sides ripped out and nothing on underneath except a sports bra. I also get tired of people lighting up wherever they feel like it simply because they're not close to a dedicated smoking area, or they want to walk around the park and talk to their friends while smoking.

Vortex, because it set the record for most inversions at the time it was built. On a semi-related note, someone needs to tell ACE that the ride time on The Beast is not 3:45 as the coaster's ACE Coaster Landmark sign states...

What do you think could go in the place of Congo Falls
Oldiesmann replied to KI FANATIC 37's topic in KI Polls
I'm sure CF would charge extra for admission to Boomerang Bay if they thought they could get away with it. Fortunately with the waterpark always being included in KI admission, plus a much nicer waterpark just up the road, I doubt that's going to happen. -
Same for me. My sister and I got front seat on last train of the night on Beast on the 11th. It was even better because there was no moonlight, so the ride was even darker than usual.

Coney Mall for me. I love the old-fashioned amusement park themeing, and I can never get enough of the classic rides.

Some things I noticed about The Beast this past weekend: There's a huge fan at the back of the station. There are lots of old lights in the rafters that don't appear to be used anymore. There's an old ramp leading from the first set of queue lanes to the point where the line splits into front/back - indicating that the first set of queues was actually added before the second set The building to the right of the queue lane is actually quite large - is this where the old snack stand was located? Those big tall things on hinged poles seen at various points along the ride are lights There's a small shack near the maintenance road (below the station) that looks like an outhouse

:( CONEY ISLAND (NY): What now?
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It's a shame to see all this happening. It sounds like the company that owns the majority of the park is more interested in making a huge profit off the land than preserving and improving a classic park. It is nice to hear that they can't knock down The Cyclone though. -
"Credit Roller Coaster"
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Another ironic part of that ad - the particular credit agency that runs that site doesn't even operate in Canada (they did for about 2 1/2 years but decided to stop earlier this year supposedly due to the economic recession). -
"Credit Roller Coaster"
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Those who have ridden Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia or similar coasters at other parks can probably explain better than I can, but here's a comparison... Diamondback: Goliath (note: this is the one at Six Flags Over Georgia, but it's the same idea): The seats on Goliath are arranged much the same way the seats on Firehawk are. -
"Credit Roller Coaster"
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
While the seats and restraints are identical (or at least very similar) to those on Diamondback, it's not exactly open air. Goliath consists of 9 cars, each of which has a single row of 4 seats Diamondback consists of 8 cars, each of which has two rows of 2 seats, arranged in a way to prevent the seats in the front row from obstructing the view of the seats in the back row. -
Coasters with the best color scheme?
Oldiesmann replied to a topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
You mean outdoor coasters have been painted pink by accident or as a prank/vandalism? -
Anyone else find this a little ironic? The latest "freecreditreport.com" ad features the gang singing about the "credit roller coaster" - while riding Goliath at La Ronde in Montreal, a park operated by Six Flags through a lease contract specifying that they have to improve the property (see Wikipedia for more info). Lyrics: Buckle up everybody cause we're taking a ride It can strain your relationships and hurt your pride It's the credit roller coaster and as you can see It kinda bites so sing the lyrics with me When your debt goes up your score goes down When you pay a little off it goes the other way around It's just the same for everybody every boy and girl The credit roller coaster makes you wanna hurl So throw your hands in the air and wave em around Like a wannabe frat boy trying to get down Then bring em right back to where your laptop's at.

Rides to ride and aviod if you have an ankle injury
Oldiesmann replied to lance99's topic in Kings Island
Avoid the following: All coasters except DB, Invertigo and Reptar. Firehawk may also be an option, but the ankle restraints and the fact that you're hanging most of the ride might make things a bit painful. Your call on that one. All water rides unless you find a way to not get the bandage wet. Of the three water rides in the main park, Wild Thornberries leaves you driest, while WWC will usually drench you. Other than that, the park should be yours to enjoy. However, keep the following in mind when you go to Coney Mall: Monster's pods are rather cramped. As long as you're careful, you'll be fine, but whacking your ankles on those pods is a very painful experience. You slide around in your seat quite a bit on Scrambler. If your right ankle is injured, you should be fine. If it's the left one, you might want to skip Scrambler. If your right ankle is injured, avoid Dodgems unless you can ride with someone else. Pushing down on the peddle won't help your injury. -
Coaster Battle #1: Adventure Express vs. Backlot Stunt Coaster

AE for me. Great ride, especially at night when there's no moon (like this past Saturday...) -
Cedar Fair looking to layoff spongebob and friends
Oldiesmann replied to Mr.Smiley's topic in Kings Island
A few more changes that occurred when Nick U debuted: Two rides were moved to new locations: Kiddie whip (Swiper's Sweepers) - originally located near where Avatar is now Hampton umbrella ride (Go, Diego, Go!) - originally located between FOC and Lazytown Sport-a-copters; when moved, it got a new umbrella and new vehicles Three rides and one attraction were removed: Baba Louie's Buggies Boo Boo's Baggage Claim Jetsons Jet Orbiters Emergency Green Slime Tower -
Also, if you can't find what you're looking for on 741, head down to Mason-Montgomery Road (one exit south of KI Drive). You will find a huge selection of restaurants in that general area, including a Steak 'n' Shake.
-
That's actually 741. 747 is the road that Tri-County Mall is on.

I'd much rather ride Eejanaika at Fuji-Q Highland in Japan - 2:10 ride time. http://rcdb.com/ig3676.htm

Michael Tait put out a couple of albums with a group he formed called Tait. Check out Wikipedia for more details. I was also there yesterday, but only saw Newsboys and Third Day (awesome band - I highly recommend checking them out). While I liked the Newsboys, it just isn't the same without Peter Furler. Third Day, as usual, was awesome. I spent the time during the storm hiding out on the patio behind the funnel cake stand in Rivertown. My sister and I had just gotten back from the water park when it hit. I will be there again tonight and am looking forward to Fireflight and Family Force 5, assuming we make it up there in time (my sister and I are going to a friend's wedding downtown at 3, but are hoping to be at KI by 5 or so.). I'm also looking forward to hearing MercyMe.

ki crowds make perfect people watching atmosphere
Oldiesmann replied to rotag's topic in Trip Reports
You used to be able to buy unlimited drink wristbands from GR for about $10. I'm sure they still give them to certain groups and such, but I assume he means that you can't buy them from GR anymore. -
The basic idea of the stairs effect was to make the ride seem bumpy as you flew down the final hill, making it seem as if you were going down stairs like in the scene of The Italian Job. It was fun when it worked, but it didn't work most of the time as I recall.
-
While in line for Vortex earlier, the lady behind me was telling her friend that Vortex "is the only upside down coaster at Kings Island since they took Son of Beast out". She then added "unless that Fireflight thing or whatever it's called goes upside down.".

Thanks for identifying that bird. I've been wondering what it was all season but never have been able to identify it. I was thinking it was a crane of some sort.

I've been at 49 for nearly 2 weeks, but that will change tomorrow.

Congrats to Darlene on her upcoming milestone ride. I will be getting my 50th tomorrow (and will likely be well above 60 by the end of the weekend).
