The latest in Coaster Studios' hilarious "Coaster Parody" series...
-
I haven't seen that anywhere in the park this year. My guess is it wasn't a big seller. I never saw many people at what used to be Snake Pit when they were selling it.

My sister and I saw one way out on the east side of town somewhere last month as well, though I don't remember where (it was out along Beechmont as I recall).

Since I finally had the day off for the 4th for the first time in years, I decided I was long overdue for a return trip to Stricker's Grove. My sister and brother-in-law decided to join me as well. We got up there probably around 3 or 3:30. Even though my niece can't ride very much and my brother-in-law isn't much of a rides person, we decided to spring for rides wristbands for them as well. We all had a great time and the fireworks were great for being a small show at a family-owned park. Despite the large crowds we still got rides on everything except the scooters (ran out of time) and Tornado (went down while we were in line for it). This is the first time I've been back since I went up there during the 4H fair a few years ago. It was nice to finally get to ride the Pirate Ship and they've also added a Mozer's Spring Ride (think Scream Machine at Coney) since I was there last as well. The other major change is that they upgraded the drive system on their Ferris Wheel - instead of the standard cable drive system, they've got some fancy computerized direct-drive system, installed to apparently make it easier to operate (and also apparently much to the amusement of someone in the rides department at Coney). The weather itself was perfect, and we lucked out in that the only major rain came while we were getting dinner - the heaviest while we were actually paying for our food - so we didn't get very wet at all. We all had a great time and I won my niece a small purple stuffed stingray at the bowling game in the arcade (we all purchased tokens with the intention of winning a prize for her - I just happened to get lucky and got it on my second try). Total ride count: 2x carousel, 2x (for both me and my sister) Kiddie Whip, 2x Train, once on everything else. Attached photos: first two show an old CP Huntington locomotive and tubs from some random ride, last three show the new drive system on the Ferris Wheel.

I'd like to see a Super Round Up in that spot, if anyone even still makes those Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk

@TheRickster - It's definitely worth the drive. They've got a great collection of rides and it's a fun atmosphere (actual themed areas) with something for everyone. Also, don't discount the waterpark. I'm not a big waterpark person either and easily spent the better part of 6 hours there when I first visited the park a few years ago. Granted, it was 95 that day, but even so, I thoroughly enjoyed it and the water coasters are a must. @Rallyomalley I also highly recommend Plymouth Rock Cafe. It's not the cheapest place in the park, but the food is delicious and it's a great value for what you get.

We did have a good couple of days despite getting to the park later than we'd hoped both days and not getting to ride as much as we'd wanted.

The past two days (Tuesday and Wednesday), my sister and I took advantage of Kentucky Kingdom's coaster club discount deal (admission and free drinks for two consecutive days for $19.95) and made two day trips to KK. Although we didn't get to the park as early as we had liked either day, we still had fun and got rides on the three good coasters (one ride on T3 last year was enough for both of us, and Roller Skater is fun but nothing special). Yesterday we got to the park a little after 2:30 and spent the better part of an hour hitting rides in King Louie's Playland with my niece (we rode a few things together, and the rest of the time we traded off with her). We then took turns watching her while the other rode Lightning Run and I rode Enterprise while my sister rode something with my niece. My sister got a ride on Tin Lizzies while I rode a ride with my niece (we were all going to ride together, but you have to be 42" to ride it even if you're with an adult). We also saw the sea lion show since we missed that when we stopped by the park on the way back from Holiwood Nights a few weeks ago. Today we got to the park around 2 and headed for lunch at the taco place in Hurricane Bay, stopping for a couple rides on Bella Musica on the way (though for some reason the band organ wasn't going today). The tacos were good as usual, but service was incredibly slow, so it was almost 4 by the time we got changed after lunch. My sister hung out in one of the kids areas with my niece while I rode Deluge (fun but Mammoth is far better). My sister initially planned to ride Deluge while I hung out with my niece but due to time constraints we decided to head for the kiddie slides instead (the area next to the wave pool). Several rounds and bouts of laughter later, we headed back to hit Thunder Run and Storm Chaser. By the time we finished with those it was nearly 7, so my sister and niece got a ride on the kiddie whip on the way out. Overall it was a fun couple of days, but we really needed another day to get everything done that we wanted to do (or at least a few more hours both days). Also, if you like creamy whip places, be sure to check out Dairy Kastle. Good food and great prices, though make sure you allow plenty of time as it's quite popular with the locals.

My sister and I are planning a return trip or two this summer so hopefully it'll be open next time we visit. Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk

I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet - the only two times I've been to the park since the show started this year have been on Wednesdays, and this past Wednesday was particularly annoying because they kept doing in-park announcements for the show even though it doesn't run on Wednesday.
-
What's going on with The Scream Machine? I was at the park yesterday for my brother-in-law's company picnic and noticed that the ride had been partially disassembled.
-
Is Deluge at Hurricane Bay ever open? I visited yesterday and it was closed. It was also closed when I visited a year ago. Maybe it's just bad luck? On a more positive note, my niece and I got a zen ride on Sun and Moon yesterday...

How Many Different Seasons Have You Visited Kings Island?
Oldiesmann replied to KIfan73's topic in KI Polls
Well over 20, possibly even 30-something. We went once a year for a long time when I was a kid and I've had a pass every year since 2009. -
Even when that place was a Dippin Dots stand it was rarely open. I'm not sure why it isn't open more often.
-
My sister is at the park right now and said Soak City is currently closed. Anyone know what's going on?

I used an app on my phone called SoundHound to identify it Sent from my LG-H820 using Tapatalk

I saw it happen first-hand, but it happened so fast I don't have all the details. I'm not sure what started it - they were part of a group of kids/teens running around near the Action Zone entrance. I have no idea what started it, but someone flung a half-empty bottle of water at another person (presumably a friend of theirs?), who flung it back at the first person. More food was thrown after that, including ice cream. It was all over within a minute but I'm assuming someone from Panda Express called security about it as a security guard and KI Park Police officer showed up a few minutes later. After talking to the people in question, they made them leave and also made a couple of other kids put chairs from the patio back outside.

It appears that the train soundtrack has changed this year. I heard the following songs today: "Ghost Riders In The Sky" by The Outlaws "Theme From The Magnificent Seven" by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra "Rocky Top" by The Osborne Brothers "Surfin Safari" by The Beach Boys Another couple songs that I was unable to identify In addition, the end of the ride is now tied in to Mystic Timbers (I won't spoil it beyond that for those who haven't experienced it yet).

The Most Ridiculous Thing a Ride Operator has told you.

The engineers wear typical train engineer outfits - overalls and matching caps. -
Found a minor issue with polls... When I chose the appropriate options in a poll and clicked the button to vote, the poll disappeared entirely instead of just refreshing to show the results. I had to refresh the page to get it back.
