Is the Zip Line new this year as well or did they add that last year? -
Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Certainly not looking good for the park, and this loan thing still sounds absolutely ridiculous. The "economic development" loans are typically aimed at small businesses looking to start a new venture in the area - not for an amusement park millions of dollars in debt with creditors who are getting fed up with not getting paid. The fact that half of it is coming from the very company managing the park isn't saying a lot either. And planning to use it to cover costs related to selling something they don't even know if they can sell yet? That seems rather risky. -
So what's up with this "power hour" crap on Banshee last night?
Oldiesmann replied to Keysersoze's topic in Kings Island
The big problem here is that somewhere in management, someone is seeing the manufacturer's stated capacity, and is wondering why on earth the actual numbers are so different. They're not happy with the results and there's a push from them that continues down the chain to the ride ops to do whatever they can to increase capacity. The "50 trains in an hour" example mentioned above is clear proof of this. RCDB lists Banshee's capacity at 1650 riders per hour. If you somehow manage to get 50 full Banshee trains out in an hour (meaning no more than 72 seconds between launches), that would put you at 1600 riders in an hour - still not as high as the stated capacity, but a lot better than say 1500 riders an hour. -
I have to work that day unfortunately (though I've already been on at least 3 behind-the-scenes tours of Beast so it's not a huge disappointment).

I hope you stopped by Guest Services to complain after that. Safety is (or at least should be) the most important thing in terms of running an amusement park, so something like that should definitely be brought to the attention of the higher-ups. -
Gold and Platinum Pass Ride Night, May 15th

Unfortunately I have to work that night so I won't be able to make it. -
Once again today some guests in line for Racer mistakenly identified Adventure Express as Beast...

I've been running into that for a while now and I think it's a bug with Tapatalk. People reported that exact issue with Taptalk and IPB a couple years ago, and at the time it was due to how they handled notifications (periodically checking the forum for new content to notify you about rather than having the forum plugin ping their servers when there was new content - see https://support.tapatalk.com/threads/all-tapatalk-users-shown-as-anonymous.18081/ if you want the details). It was supposed to have been fixed in an older version, and the problem went away for a while, but it seems to have cropped up again around the time they merged the free and pro apps into a single app. I haven't seen any further complaints about it on their website though.

In related news, Travel Channel named Carowinds one of its top 10 amusement/water parks this year: http://www.thestate.com/news/local/article20326470.html (The State is "South Carolina's most honored newspaper" in case anyone's wondering) Apparently the media hype over rides stopping at the park wasn't enough to keep the park from being recognized.

Dollywood Suggestions/Tips
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
If I have time I'll definitely check it out. It's a shame I'll only be spending 4 days down there. So much to see and do and not possibly enough time to enjoy everything, especially when you plan on spending half your trip at an amusement park. -
Google is your friend Raid, Flit and Black Flag are all brands of insecticide. "Quick Henry, the Flit!" was apparently a popular catchphrase that appeared in a series of ads for Flit created by a certain Theodore Seuss Giesel years before he became famous for his kids' books.

I still don't understand how getting further into debt will help them raise enough money to pay back the existing debt. -
Dollywood Suggestions/Tips

One more question. Is Splash Country worth doing at all? Since Dollywood is only 4 1/2 hours away I could theoretically spend the last day at Splash Country and drive back that night, at the added expense of a 3-day park ticket compared to a 2-day ticket (the customer service rep at the booking agency who responded to my email said a 2-day ticket is good for admission to one park each day, but the 3-day ticket would give me admission to both parks each day). -

I fully plan on trying to ride everything I can while I'm down there. That's why I decided to take two full days to do the park - re-rides, shows, etc. -
When you get to the mobile site, tap "Full Site", then close that window. Tap the link again and you'll be taken to the full page rather than the mobile site. You'll have to zoom in to read it, but it's better than trying to dig through the mobile site.

Dollywood Suggestions/Tips
Oldiesmann replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Looking at YouTube videos of it, it certainly looks like a blast. They've got 3 shows each of the days I plan to be there, so it might be a good thing to do for dinner the night I get down there, especially as it's only half a mile from the hotel I'll probably be staying at (Roadway Inn in Pigeon Forge). -
Dollywood Suggestions/Tips

Right now I'm planning the trip for the 3rd week of July (after the All Star Game and Reds/Indians series, so things shouldn't be quite as crazy at work that week as they will be the two weeks prior to that). I'm planning to leave on a Monday, spend Tuesday and Wednesday in the park and drive back on Thursday sometime. That should give me enough time to check out various tourist attractions and still get in a lot of rides and at least one show in the park. Also, is Dolly's Dixie Stampede Dinner Experience worth checking out? I know it's designed more for families but it sounds interesting. -
Kennywood: Large Fight
Oldiesmann replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Another park that doesn't equate offering season passes with problems due to neighborhood clientele it seems. It makes me glad KI is located in a fairly safe neighborhood (though I've heard that Haunt season can bring out entirely different patrons). -

8:45 at night at a park that is "usually open until 10PM" according to the park's website? What exactly did these teenagers expect to accomplish in a little over an hour? -
As I've mentioned elsewhere here, having 125 hours of paid vacation time at my disposal, I'm looking at a possible Dollywood trip this summer. Right now I'm planning on a 4-day trip (Monday through Thursday) in mid-July - drive down there one day (and spend time exploring the area some), spend two days at Dollywood and drive back the last day. I can get such a package (3 nights in a hotel and 2-day park admission) for around $300 through Dollywood's website, which isn't bad at all (even better than AAA as all I can find through them is a discount on one-day admission to either Dollywood or Splash Country). Is Dollywood typically less crowded during the week like most parks, or is it hit and miss due to that area being a huge tourist destination? What else is a "must do" or "must see" down there (besides the alpine coaster, which is already on my list)?

I was wondering why they redid that entrance. I didn't even notice that when I was there opening weekend.

If you're using Chrome or Firefox you can actually go in and view the password that it's saved for that username. Firefox: Go to the menu and click "Preferences", then click "Security" and "Saved Passwords...". Type "kic" in the search box, then click the "Show Passwords" button and confirm that you really want to do that. Chrome: Go to the menu and click "Settings" (or enter "chrome://settings" in the omnibar). Scroll down and click on "Show advanced settings". Look for the "Passwords and forms" section and click "Manage passwords". Type kic in the search box, click on the result, then click "show" next to the password. Similar functionality may also exist in Internet Explorer, but I don't know as I rarely use that browser.

There seems to be a glitch with notifications in regards to Tapatalk as well. Today I keep getting push notifications but when I go into Tapatalk and try to view notifications for this forum it just says there aren't any.

Registration for the event has ended now. I hope everyone who wanted to go got registered in time!

Why do some parks have height restrictions?
Oldiesmann replied to CoasterDirected's topic in Kings Island
The height restrictions in regards to flight paths and such are almost certainly federal restrictions, just like the flashing beacons. Beyond that, it's largely up to local governments what goes. As far as KI is concerned, I'd imagine they only have to deal with the Warren County and Butler County airports. Warren County's is 7 miles away in Lebanon and Butler County's is 14 miles away in Fairfield Township (east of Hamilton), given that both of the closest international airports are 30+ miles away.
