  1. That's actually very possible. Like me, he was raised on CP so it was the most familiar to him. The Dollywood incident though, he was clearly done for the day, he started to say "home" which in that particular case was the hotel, during the time it took to go from one end of the park to the other it escalated and really didn't end well.
  2. Very severe cases, like my brother, have no concept of time. I guess I'll have to ask, since you said you had a brother, what do you do b/w rides? My thought, if I was in that situation, that I'd go up to the ride, get the pass, while my wife did whatever was readily available with an autistic child, then we'd all go up together in the 15 minutes or hour or whatever. Of course then again, an autistic child may want to do The Racer now, and there is no diversion good enough to satisify them for however long the wait is. I bolded the part of the quote that definitely fits my brother. It was always complicated. We were still visiting CP with the RVs regularly when they decided they wanted to try the new boarding pass out. It was a disaster so we were still given passes to allow immediate boarding even while the brand new boarding pass thing was in effect. (still have a pile of "Sorry for Interrupting your day" passes from CP kept just for nostalgia I suppose) Back then it was a routine to him to follow my dad to the coasters (in particular Mine Ride, Iron Dragon and WildCat, as far as coasters go he didn't bother with the others), he liked the kiddie rides, his preferences though was the train and Paddlewheel Excursions. Every trip to CP was heavily structured cause of the routine he liked to follow. As an example once we entered the park and after me and my dad did Magnum it was always off to Paddlewheel Excursions because if we didn't then he be demanding for the "boats". When we did try the new system briefly, we tried to use the shows to keep him busy (because he also liked the shows as well), and he did end up having quite a bit of outbursts in the park. It clearly confused him and the more you'd tell him that we be going back to that ride "in a few minutes", the more impatient and agitated he got. With all the changes at CP, I don't think my brother will ever see the park again in all honesty. Over the years my brother has gotten much taller than my parents, and a lot more stronger which means if he has an outburst...it doesn't end well. When we went to Dollywood in 2005, he had an outburst there, which was really caused by him being tired and ready to go back to the hotel. What happened as a result of the outburst I am sending you in a PM and Dollywood as a response when they found out he was autistic sent us a written apology and free tickets. I never been comfortable posting about the experiences publicly so yeah check the PM. Apparently he had massive outburst at Disney World too in 2010 (and in 2008) but I didn't witness those because I spent pretty much the entire time during those trips at SeaWorld. Living with an autistic person with the severity as him is not easy. Its definitely put a huge strain my parents (and my dad is a cardiac patient so I worry about him a lot), they don't get along well anymore, and I am hands off when it does come to my brother because I don't want to be attached really. Why I prefer to travel solo most of the time. We can't even take him to Walmart anymore. Everytime my mom would take him shopping only thing he wanted was Reese cups, which always causes him to have a headache and since he can't tell us he has a headache, he throws a fit. So we have to keep large quantities of candy and such away from him. He hasn't been to KI in almost a decade, don't think he'll be going anytime soon cause the Antique Cars are gone. (again, he liked those) He never forgets so yeah... The last time he visited KI, he almost had a massive outburst but several round trips on the train soothed him. Mind you, he is very tall (slightly over 6 feet tall) and he WANTED to ride the kiddie rides. Obviously couldn't...so we tried to divert his attention to other stuff quickly before it could get out of hand.

  4. This sounds like something my autistic brother would do. Hence why he never goes anywhere these days...
  5. Kings Island 06/12/2013 IMG_4304 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr This was probably the shortest visit to the park for me. I work really early mornings sometimes and today was one of those. I got to the park around 3:40pm after work, just in time to get to International Showplace to see what changes, if any, were made to the Remember when...the 70's. Overall good show, though I feel like last year was better. Some of the singers seemed like they had the wrong voice(s) for the songs in which they sung. But still a good performance, and the dancers were amazing! After the show...I went home. lol. Hey, I was TIRED! For once no Flight Deck! I have to admit...I am pretty pleased with the pics. 6. I am not entirely surprised. I always see Cedar Point adverts (if not more so than KI's), and live kind of between Dayton and Columbus, lol. (well I live an hour from city of Dayton, hour from Columbus and hour from Cincinnati) Only this year I see more of CP cause they play Gatekeeper commercials as well on top of the regular stuff.
  7. Least favorite current operating rides: Manhattan Express/Roller Coaster at New York New York and of course Firehawk at KI. Both hurt my neck.
  8. I had a hard time finding the original thread even with search...so yeah. If you guys are able to find it would be helpful just for the sake of knowing. http://www.clickorlando.com/news/osha-fines-seaworld-38500-for-safety-violation/-/1637132/20501998/-/tmqtyez/-/index.html I actually loved this part: As I have said in the past, OSHA are out of their element here, considering the amount of keepers attacked by elephants, bears and tigers. (worst those facilities gets are usually just an investigation and fined, never pursued like this) It does mention physical barrier, by psychical barrier, one of the methods done are these bars the trainers put down between them and the orca if they are knelt down in very close proximity (like checking/cleaning their teeth etc) In this pic they had just sat the bars down and preparing to clean his teeth Inspecting Keet's dorsal I have seen these guys turn themselves almost completely around while submerged on the ledges like that, it always kind of fascinating considering their size.
  9. 1) Flight Deck (can't you just tell by my Trip Reports?) 2) Adventure Express 3) Beast 4) Diamondback 5) FOF 6) Vortex 7) Red Racer I've ridden everything at the park, but as for favorites (at least in the coasters), that's it. For personal reasons can not stand Invertigo, Firehawk or BLSC, so I'm just leaving such rides off. I also thoroughly enjoy Eiffel Tower and WindSeeker, but they aren't coasters.... Edit: this might shock a few. If SOB was still operating I would actually include that in my rankings before I would think of including Firehawk. Yes, Firehawk caused me that much discomfort last couple rides, almost as bad, if not worse than Sonny. I dunno how it is now (last time I rode Firehawk was 2010) though, but I am in no urgent need to find out. I prefer the B&M flyers.
  10. Kings Island is a family-oriented park. It's not in the business of always pleasing the thrill junkies who need a bigger, badder, faster coaster to provide their rush for them. If they had been listening to you, don't you think they would have had a full-circuit invert, a floorless, and a giga long before now? Don't you think they would have replaced King Cobra with another world-class standup coaster within a couple of years after removing it? Don't you think they would have built a custom flying coaster, instead of giving us a leftover from Geauga Lake? It took them 20 years....TWENTY YEARS....just to get a steel hyper coaster. I stand by my thoughts. KI doesn't need a giga. Not now anyway. Sorry my opinion is ruining the party for everyone. I guess I am still minority. My idea of true family oriented rides are things entire families can enjoy together, and by entire family I am also including the grandparents. So....Antique Cars, Ferris Wheels, Cable Cars....and other stuff KI used to have but lack now. A long line doesn't always mean that a coaster is popular... Diamondback can have a long line, but the line moves quickly at least, and I don't recall MF having the greatest of dispatch times if memory serves me right, and don't get me going about Firehawk. >_> That thing just gets downright ridiculous, I don't blame KI there making it a Fast Lane Plus ride.
  11. Me, my bro and my father. So three on my end. I can't stay for the whole duration possibly cause of work but they can.
  12. Neither were as good as the show he put on at Knott's Haunt last year, imo. But hey, still enjoyable stuff. XD
  13. It sounds like it was just Columbus since the timing it takes to drive to them is similar each way. (Though I have no clue whether or not it is still offered anyway)
  14. I saw it. A couple tricks are repeated and incorporated well into the new show, however it is for the most part different. Check it out!
  15. For me personally, whenever I do think of Snoopy, Knott's comes to mind first. Just like Berenstein bears make me think of CP. To this day, Snoopy still feels so out of place at KI.
  16. For the Rebel I carry a kit 18-55mm lens, 50mm, 55-250mm, and 75-300mm lenses. Despite a lot of the negative reviews I read for the 75-300mm, and its weight.... I like it. That picture of Vortex I have posted with this trip report was taken with that lens. I love the 50mm best for low light environments, like what is seen at Haunt. I'm still looking at a particular Nikon slr, just waiting for the best moment to go in for the grab. haha! The Powershot are great cameras, mine is a SX120IS model, so it kind of functions like a mini slr, and it is easier to carry around (not small enough for pockets though >_>) than the Rebel which I love too!
  17. Canon Rebel T3 mostly, however I do keep and use a Canon Powershot Point n Shoot as well. Both cameras were used yesterday. When I have the Rebel with me, I try not to do a lot of riding cause I'm scared of leaving it and the lenses behind at the stations, lol. Too much money went into all that.
  18. Kings Island June 4th 2013 visit IMG_4009 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr I went really primarily for the Ed Alonzo show more than anything else, but I did manage to hang around a lot longer than I thought I would. I rode Dback first thing during ERT, (just one ride) and finally got my first ride of the season on The Beast. I've really missed Beast! WindSeeker was a walk on so I did that, on my way to that I had started to have one of my random brief coughing fits (they always seem worse in Ohio than in Cali) For whatever reason it cleared at the top of WindSeeker and once back on ground level starting coughing again for several minutes before it stopped. Visit to first aid followed to rest for a couple minutes to sit in the A/C. By noon time I was really just browsing around the park, taking photos and visiting inside the shops (didn't buy anything) and got some ice cream after going up the Eiffel Tower. About 2pm I felt I was ready for at least one more ride and it was off too.....you guessed it..my favorite Arrow, Flight Deck XD. Though I was a bit surprised to find over a 20 minute wait there, that was the longest I actually waited all afternoon/morning. I went to Ed Alonzo's show right after leaving Flight Deck. I won't spoil anything for those who have not seen the show yet because it is pretty different from last years. Go see it! I really enjoyed it. Picture time: IMG_4131 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr IMG_5754 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr IMG_5763 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr Also this trip was the first time I ever seen any of the Canadian Geese swimming inside the fountains IMG_3840 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr IMG_3924 by ki_faerie_wench, on Flickr
  19. I can tell the difference between most coasters, but I just refuse to acknowledge it at every chance available while at a park to random patrons boring them to death like I have seen some guys do in ride lines (most recently Flight Deck).
  20. Personally...I'd rather Tombstone (the trail itself) done completely away with and the cowboys let loose on Rivertown.
  21. Salt Water Circus. Oh wait...this is about Paramount and CF. Never mind.
  22. Most of the time I seen them operate both trains. The issue with Tombstone is getting people through the actual attraction, a very long and dark walk and people stopping at every measly crate.
  23. I think you mean Robert Frost. Edit: Never mind, see you corrected already
