  1. VisitKingsIsland.com Downtime Explained
  2. I have been informed that VisitKingsIsland.com is down due to routine maintenance. Please do not confuse this with a relaunch. It should return Friday. Ryan
  3. You'll have that this time of year. I think it's a good thing that people can come here for news and info beyond Kings Island, personally....
  4. Keep it non-political (and intelligent) and we can allow it.
  5. Because it's a violation of the terms of service which you agreed to when registering.
  6. I wouldn't be shocked at all if that license is expanded much further than 4 years. Well at the time Cedar Fair took over in 06, the Nick name was in its 1st year. I think they should keep it too. Makes it to where you have 2 different cartoon names in one state instead of just one. Better for all partys. Cedar Fair has the inherent rule of doing what works. So you're probably right. They probably kept Snoopy for a reason, just like they'll probably keep Nick for a reason...

  8. Jungle Jim's is an international market, however it's best known for some wacky antics and interesting decor. You can find old animatronics from KI and Americana there, as well as several different relics from the greater Cincinnati area.
  9. If you take Western Row all the way back to the Little Miami River you can follow its path behind the park. Looking at the map, you get relatively close to The Racer, but you're abruptly stopped by some guy's gatehouse.
  10. http://www2.cedarfair.com/kingsisland/jobs...cfm?emp_id=1995 If anyone's interested, I've only heard good things about working in the entertainment department at KI. Most actors and actresses are there for years.
  11. There were two press releases about Firehawk, a typical fact sheet and one that was all about how to move a ride from one location to another. It was no secret for us.
  12. That's probably why the parks don't put too much stock into any recognition from any group. From ACE's web site: Requirements seem arbitrary, if anything unsafe. In fact, the criteria is vague to say that least, "..headrests, or the majority of seats" Majority of seats? So if you have headrests on 50% of the seats, you're ok, but not 51%? The rules certainly imply this, but I've heard that a coaster classic absolutely needs to be wooden. I think that's completely out of date in today's day and age. Look at rides like Magnum that changed the face of roller coasters forever. Don't get me wrong, I understand the intention, but what the criteria they're listing is extremely rare to say the least, and there are many rides that don't (and never) met the requirements that played a pivotal roll in the history of the coasters.
  13. Classic... Landmark... either way ACE just leaves a plaque outside of the ride. I plaque that has a mountain and stars on it and will likely be removed before the season's start.
  14. Wow.... Josh "Cupcake" Hackenberg... I figured I'd never hear from you again...
  15. I was kinda hoping you were free tonight...
  16. That's about the most flattering picture ever, Bombay.
  17. You know how the business works, the park scratches my back, I scratch their back, they scratch Infosino's back...
  18. Had to swing by the park today. Nothing to report on the progress of the sign.
  19. While our friends at Carowinds do have a very nice sign, I'm very impressed with Kings Island's sign.
  20. That's because in all probability in many ways the new sign is just the old sign with a remodel. Saves money and is good for the environment, too. And most people will never know and think the sign is totally new. Just like coaster clones, no one but the most avid enthusiast (park, cultural, designer, etc.) could even draw from memory or describe what the old sign looked like, nor cares if it looks like another sign at another park or park chain. Most people pay only a little bit of attention to such things. Yes, it's important and an icon for the park, but by far the majority of people only occasionally look at it, they do not normally study it. Yep, that's true: From page 1 of this thread:
  21. There's simply nothing to report. Of course, that is not a forward-looking statement.
  22. The walkback thing was something that was supposed to be discussed at No Coaster Con, but since the cat's already out of the bag, I'll give you the lowdown. The walkback has been a tradition for several decades now. It started with the late PR director for Kings Island, Ruth Voss. She used to take a morning spin because she believed that it helped her arthritis. She began to invite certain members of ACE to join her, and the tradition of having a morning walkback to The Beast has been in place ever since, in honor of Mrs. Voss. Times have changed with Kings Island. Back in the late 70s and early 80s lines for The Beast were hours long by noon, now you can ride The Beast with a minimal wait on almost any day. There's simply more to do at Kings Island... more ways to disburse the crowds. Anyway, believe it or not, it is a hassle to do the walk backs. They have to have certain people in certain places in order to have guests backstage before the park opens. Despite that, the staff at Kings Island really values the tradition and really wants to continue to do this special perk for enthusiasts. Since numbers range from having one person wanting to do the walkback to dozens, it's difficult to justify doing it on many days. There are many credible coaster enthusiast groups out there now, so in the interest of modernizing the tradition, Kings Island has chosen to allow all major coaster enthusiast groups to participate in the walkback. Please note that the list of eligible groups is TBA. All participants must have a current coaster membership card in order to participate. Membership cards will be checked daily. Hope this helps, Ryan
  23. The night photos of the sign look really nice. You'll notice that in the darker hours, you'll be able to see a white halo behind the lettering.
  24. I sure hope that when you're referring to "Ryan" you're not referring to me, because I honestly have no idea what the heck you're talking about. My statement was just my opinion. If I were a decision maker at Kings Island, FoF would get all sorts of care, but unfortunately, I'm not... not until the hostile takeover!!!!
  25. I can honestly say that Paramount spend more in one year of Tomb Raider's upkeep (and take that for what it's worth) than Cedar Fair will spend in ten years on trash cans. Trash cans are cheap... themeing is VERY expensive.
