I don't see how either SoB or TR could be considered a "great" attraction unless these are to be included: Great Hype? Yes. Great Expense? Yes. Great Downtime? Yes. Great Headache? Yes. Great Attraction? I suppose that is a matter of opinion.
  2. That is called corporate policy. CF initiated the policy after the Magnum accident a few years back. We may not like or understand it, yet we have to deal with it. I would also not be surprised if insurance has a significant impact on the policy.
  3. I thought that "rule" was for shoes... Brown- getting in-touch with his feminine side.
  4. I am just getting to this tragic story for the first time. How can there not be a fail-safe operating system for this ride? Putting more detail into what I am saying: coasters use numerous photo eyes and prox switches that "talk" to each other. This means that, an operator cannot advance a train into the station until the station is clear. It appears to me that there was no safety feature in place to signal the proper placement height for the catch net and simply relied on the judgement of an operator. That is an epic fail on the manufacturer's part. People make mistakes everyday. If there were numerous safety features such as: 4 prox switches/ interlock switches (one on each support leg) that signaled the top portion of the net in place, and 4 more switches that signaled the bottom portion of the net in place could have easily prevented this. In a standard ladder diagram, 4 top switches would have to be on to from the "top circut", as well as the 4 bottom switches would need to be on to from a "bottom circut". If one of the switches are not "on" the "drop" button would be useless even if pressed. This would eliminate the human element of making a mistake. Now if the safety features were somehow "bypassed" (i.e. leaving the switches in the "on" position by taping a piece of metal to the prox switch itself or removing the interlock switch for the moving net device and leaving both switches-male end in female end- interlocked) that is still a manufacturer error as the switches would never have a shut "off" condition still allowing more than one cycle to be completed. I'm not gonna pretend to know all about the safety features that rides use. I am only going based upon my experince in using safety features in the automated manufactering field- robot loading CNC equipment, conveyors, etc. I am glad to hear the girl is doing as good as can be expected. I also hope both the manufacturer & park itself are never allowed to be responsible for a human life again.
  5. When you get cracked in the head with a garbage can lid, you now know who did it.
  6. That is good to hear. But it still does not explain why a person would knowingly go to a place that has an environment they don't agree with.
  7. ^ Now that is the EXACT point. Those that disagree, are not judging the person; we judge the information the person has given. There is a big difference between the two. Expecting CF to discontinue HH for the reasons given is like: not liking violence and then expecting the NFL to stop hitting or being Jewish and attending a Roman Catholic Sunday service and then proclaiming the beliefs of that chruch community are wrong. Being a poster/ member here, the OP obviously knows what kind of environment HH brings, and still went anyway. Why?
  8. Very true. But it was so over the top asinine, how could we not?
  9. Read it again then. I don't post a message looking for a response. I respond to those that are clearly mistaken.
  10. I don't see much of a difference between his post and the definition of "troll". http://www.flayme.com/troll/
  11. What's the old saying? Opinions are like trolls.....
  12. Perhaps it is not considered gambling because you win prizes and not money.
  13. Yes. My post also has ^^ indicating two posts above.
  14. No, as that is the article for KD, not KI.
  15. ^^ Do you have a link to the news source? I cannot find info on it anywhere.
  16. ^ Even I won't make that prediction!
  17. That is completely understandable, and unfortunate at the same time. I had the same feeling with The Bat back in the early 80's. But it didn't happen on just any coaster. It happened on a coaster that has an extremely poor record. I don't see how all of SoB's "incidents" can be "coincidences" given the amount of coasters Worldwide.
  18. You are correct, none are in SoB's class. They have not had the issues or injuries SoB has had and most are still operating- for a reason. Oh, and I thought this discussion was about wood coasters. Anyway, just because there are more steel coasters being constructed does not mean wood coasters are becoming rare as you previously mentioned. Aside from that, the money that woud be invested for a SoB TG treatment could very easily be used to construct another fantasic wood coaster. That would solve your "rarity" concern.
  19. Now take a step back and think about what you just said. Why would SoB hold those records that long? Is it because SoB is that grand of a coaster? Or is it because other parks don't see the big deal in breaking records? The wooden coaster is becoming more and more rare. Given your 10 year watermark (2000-2010), there have been 57 new wood coasters constructed. I do not consider that number to be rare by any means. (source- rcdb.com) In steel coaster catagory, this discussion has been about wood coasters.
  20. Now take a step back and think about what you just said. Why would SoB hold those records that long? Is it because SoB is that grand of a coaster? Or is it because other parks don't see the big deal in breaking records?
  21. Absolutely it can be said. Some may have considered the ride rough, but every wooden roller coaster is to an extent. It has been up for ten years now, and still holds 2 WORLD records (and it started with 3). I think we take that fact for granted. The ride may have its issues, but it gives a superstar to the park. I know Diamondback is great (I love the ride), but it's not setting any world records like SoB. SoB had been standing for 10 years. Has it been up for 10 years? No. Does the ride have issues? That is an understatement... Holding a world record does not make a coaster enjoyable or good. There are countless coasters that have never been close to any type of record, and are absolutely fantastic coasters.
  22. TG was considered one of the best, if not the best, wooden coasters in it's prime, so an improvment/ rebuild of this magnitude is warrented. Can the same be said of SoB?
  23. It was mentioned that the video was not going to be like the actual show, you just don't like to listen and still argued (to this day) an opinion that had no basis. Nothing has happened. Get over it.
  24. ^^ I think having the name HH across the board, excluding CP due to a "tamer" halloween event, is simply a cost issue. It is cheaper for advertising, souveniers, in- house sings etc. As far as why not call it FF? The name change is probably due to a seperation between CF & Paramount, or like you mentioned, contractual obligations. Can it be considered leeching? Sure. Most industry franchises do the same thing.
