  2. $6,000,000 minimum for phase 1? That averages out to $4000 from each member. Fund raiser or not, that is a tremenous amount of support from their community. IMO- it would make more sense if the church started phase 1 with the community center and then went on to bigger things.
  3. That sounds very similar to DisneyQuest. Which is soon to be no more, yet I thought it was a fantastic attraction at Downtown Disney. I would also like to see the ferris wheel at GL come to KI. Even at a low capacity, a ferris wheel is one of those rides that you expect to see at every park. Capacity should not even be an issue. Only because how often have you seen a ferris wheel with more than a 15 minute wait? It would be a great addition to the family rides at the park.
  4. Well if the decision to modify the blocking and modify a third train is made, it is quite apparent that CF believes SoB to be a viable ride worth spending more money on. Even though I feel SoB is a terrible ride, props to CF for doing what it took to keep the ride functioning.
  5. I have an uncle in Southern California. All his e-mails have been how difficult everything is right now, mainly breathing and getting around. There are many roads and highways closed not only for the threat of fire, but closed to allow emergency vehicles easy passage. His condo on Long Beach is in no danger, but his fiance has a house that was right in the middle of a firestorm. Fortunately, her house was saved due to some type of red foam flame retardant. On a lighter note, his fiance's daughter is in college out there. Her classes have been cancelled so that commuters do not congest the roadways. So she and her roommate took it upon themselves to be a volunteer to help out victims and those that have been displaced due to the fires. Kudos to her and all of the other volunteers out there! They are certianly some of the unsung heros that go unaknowledged. And on a *somewhat* humorous side: my uncle always seems to rub it in about the snowfall we receive in Erie while he is standing on his balcony, in shorts, looking at the ocean. And at times like this, all I tell him is: "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow." I'm just lucky to just worry about snowfall compared to brushfires, earthquakes, hurricanes, floods etc.
  6. I guess my question is: Why follow the guy if he quit? If he was a problem, and left on his own accord, let him leave. Problem solved. I am not justifing Fisher's obvious reaction, but if he was willing to leave on his own; why bother following him? They could just cancel his badge if it gains access electronically, or even hold his paycheck until he returned the badge. I'm sure there have been many instances where empolyees hace forgotten their badge and have to be let in manually, so even if the park has his badge, there still needs to be communication notices at the park entry points identifing him. It seems that there are many holes to both stories.
  7. There is no doubt about that. I was at CP for Raptor's opening day. Not only were there numerous downtime issues (which i should have guessed there would be), it was cold and raining. We went on Magnum in a light- steady rain and man did it hurt. Like cold shards of glass piercing your skin. I can only imagine what rain would feel like on MF or TTD.
  8. He must have received a "Can't say no offer" from Disney. Because if I was in his position, considering what IoA has planned for Harry Potter World, it would be hard for me to walk away from a project like that. Even if most of the work has been completed as the article states, I would still want to see the whole project completed. Some may not agree, but when WWoHP does open, it will be one of the biggest attractions to open it some time.
  9. Again, why flaunt credentials when if your knowledge was valid (and I'm sure it is) it would show through your posts anyway? And how does being a regional rep validate your knowledge? Only being on 400 coasters validates that you can comment on those 400 coasters, not the other coasters & parks you have not been to. So your knowledge is only for less than 25% of the industry worldwide. Sorry, knowing only 25% of anything is not something to hang your hat on after claiming to be an expert. I was wondering when the old standby would surface. Sure working for a park may gain you knowledge of how a park operates, but that is it. Unless you are in upper management you know as much as they want you to know. And being in board meetings for ACE would be a conflict of intrest if you were in upper management for any of those parks. Not to mention, being 39 years old, it is safe to assume that you probably worked at those parks at the age of 18 to 28. Well many things change in 11 years, so I suppose you were and expert at those parks, 11 years ago. Well actually, you are the one that made the comment that you are considered an expert on most theme park operations. Just mentioning that is pretty much telling everyone that you do not consider yourself a regular person. Please don't forget about the comments that could help the park improve itself. Everyone needs constructive criticism to keep forging ahead. And no, I have never made any such claim to be any kind of expert. It really does not bother me in the least bit. I have not put myself into the limelight by claiming to be an expert and having to defend my own comments. It really is too bad that your experience at HH did not meet your expectations. If I only visited the park one time per year, and I had a bad time, I would also voice my opinion. I have had such experiences at KD, and have voiced my opinion. But what does being a board member and regional rep for ACE have to do with your trip to KI for HH? I'm sure holding these positions did not make your time any less desirable than the next person.
  10. That first pic looks like a Canadian goose. And they are some of the meanest animals that I have been around. Perhaps it was because I was chasing it with my putter, but the darn thing would not stop hissing at me on the green!

  12. Yeah. All that lovely stagnant water combined with garbage and whatever else people wanted to put in it (insert gross thought here) really was a breeding ground for some lovely smells. Especially in late July when there was no wind and high humidity. That lake was also a breeding ground for mosquitos, which in the early 80's did not seem to be that big of a deal, but today? Whoa! I can't even imagine the West Nile Virus stories and accusations that would be put against the park. While it was neat to see the water themeing in The Beast station, we are better off they lake was drained.
  13. ^ Well there is no upcharge this year, so it is rather a mute point.
  14. Well apparently there are some that seem to have the terminology wrong: http://www.sinc.stonybrook.edu/Stu/hnaseer/aboutme.htm
  15. My bad! And you are absoutely correct about how much land CP owns into the lake. That is why I mentioned the ice dunes. They form right along the shoreline.
  16. ^ Please don't let my voice represent KICentral. I am just one person of almost 3000 with an opinion. Certainly you know that 1 person does not speak for almost 3000. And yes, it is very well known that KBF has won the Golden Ticket for their Haunt. Which is just another reason that, as prestigious as the GT's are, it is rather unfair to compare the two Haunts and that the walk up ticket prices being $5 more for Knott's. EDIT: Whoops, apparently I quoted you before you could make your edit. Sorry!
  17. It is funny on how people will believe that building a coaster over the shores of Lake Erie, specifically over the water, is no big deal. In the summer, it would be fun, chilly until mid June, but still fun. But what some seem to forget is that Lake Erie winters are very harsh. Ice dunes can accumulate in excess of 15'. That is a tremendous amount of force to push water that high. But once the shoreline freezes, that is where the real force comes in. The ice that would surround each footer would most likely destroy the coaster. And yes, they could make the footers large & beefy enough to possibly withstand the winter forces, but now imagine the cost? I will never say never, but I would certainly be shocked if CP would do anything like that.
  18. Ah, where to start... I could really care less that you believed HH was unorganized. Sure, when you have a rather large crowd during a 6 hour period, things will get missed. That will happen with any event. I would have expected a vetern park enthusiast like yourself to have understood that. But hey, that is your opinion and you are entitled to it. And honestly, it is a good thing that vetern amusement park enthusiasts, like yourself, do have opinions on such events. It is well known that upper management staff of the park frequent this site, and they may happen to take your comments as a valid opinion and try to correct the problem. And while you did not come out and make the direct quote about your knowledge of the upcharge in '08, your comments of: Then another member posted about the upcharge in '08, which led to your comment of: That certainly led me to believe that you had no idea of the upcharge in '08. If you knew about it, you would have answered your own comment in your original post. You certainly did not hold back on telling us about your elite status and knowledge, so why would you hold back on specific knowledge? But now this is where I will defend KI. Knott's has been doing this for how long? They are also open for all but 8 days in October, so the demand to go to the park on a specific day or weekend for an event like HH would not be as great compared to KI. Not to mention their staff is year-round where KI scrambles this time of year to bring in as many qualified people as possible. Now the weather. Sure Cincinnati gets decent weather, but nothing compared to Southern California. In October the average temperature near Knott's is 66.8 degrees with an average rainfall of .3". In Cincinnati the averages in October are 54.1 degrees and 2.4" of rain. So when the weather is good, people are going to flock to those two days, or those few days prior to Halloween, when KI is open. So it is quite easy to see that comparing both parks is rather unfair. Where you certainly lost me is when you started to try and throw your weight around because you vote for the Golden Tickets. Your comments of trying to let others' understand that you know what you are talking about, just because you vote in that poll actually put yourself into that position of being questioned. But now look at it from this angle, how is it no problem for you to have an opinion about how a park operates for a special event, but I cannot have an opinion about a tainted poll? Hey it is great that you have been on over 400 coasters. Congrats! I'm not really sure how that makes you an expert in the amusement park field, but it does in your mind. It is always good to have self confidence. But now, is the amount of coasters really make that much of a difference? There are approximately 730 coasters just in North America, and according to your count, you have been on just over half of them. What about the rest of the 40% in North America? Or how about the 2100 coaster that are Worldwide? Don't they count? Or is it just the bigger parks that get the most attention? And congrats on being an ACE member. I'm not really sure why you would mention that, but obviously you are proud to be a card carrying member of a club that you have to pay for. BTW, I have been a paying subscriber to ESPN for over 25 years, and I am in no way an expert on sports, nor will I claim to be. By the way you quickly pointed out that you are an expert in the field, it seems that you came packing for a fight. Sure we, or at least me, will be somewhat biased to KI. This is a KI site. Go to a neutral site like TPR or CB if you want unbiased opinions. But even here, at KICentral, we tend to be even more critical of the park than most guests. Only because we go to the park sometimes on a weekly basis unlike the guest that goes once a year. We see changes month to month, week to week, and sometimes day to day. Some changes recieve praise, others not so much. And don't forget to mention that you are a voter for the Golden Tickets as well as a member of ACE. Your reception be very warm!
  19. Well I suppose if WAS charged a minimum $10/ person it would have been easier to keep around. Does anyone remember what the final upcharge was? $2.50 rings a bell, but I'm not sure.
  20. After reading that quote, I has this vision of the tree being passed among different helicopters through each town. Something like the Olympic torch. .... man I MUST be tired.
  21. The reasoning, although it still sucks for those planning to get their jacket this year, could be as easy as: There are just not enough jackets made yet, so the decision was made to supply CP with jackets since it is a destination park and most who enjoy it will be driving from at least 1 to 2 hours away. Now at KI, many of the season pass holders live within one hour and will have more opportunities in '07 and the beginning of the '08 season to get their jacket. EDIT: I have gone back to look at some past press releases and I cannot find any information that states the exact dates for the jackets to be given out. Are you sure that the dates changed?
  22. ^ I believe that the first come policy is for a specific size, not that you will not get one.
  23. Well they have installed all of those coasters for over $100 million total since 2000. That is not exactly a bad 7 years. They have also installed almost 50 coasters around the World in that same time span. With another 7 coming in 2008. Apparently there are many parks that are not scared off from Intamin's recent operating issues.
  24. I was really only joking around about Tower Johnny. My guess is that it had to do with insurance reasons. It probably was more cost effective to just weld the barriers closed than to install preventitive measures so dumb a$$es could not climb over the fence.
