Well they have installed all of those coasters for over $100 million total since 2000. That is not exactly a bad 7 years. They have also installed almost 50 coasters around the World in that same time span. With another 7 coming in 2008. Apparently there are many parks that are not scared off from Intamin's recent operating issues.

I was really only joking around about Tower Johnny. My guess is that it had to do with insurance reasons. It probably was more cost effective to just weld the barriers closed than to install preventitive measures so dumb a$$es could not climb over the fence.

Cedar Points new ride for 2008
Browntggrr replied to Tuskin's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well the normal comments of "There are survey stakes in the ground over there," or, "This dirt pile has moved 10' to the West," have been rather non-existent this year. So at this Point ( ) nobody knows. Perhaps a flat ride from GL? I am going to guess (which also is the popular guess among many enthusiasts) that in '09 you will see something built in the area that the aquatic stadium is presently. Unless they are going to tear down the stadium in the off season and then build something, but, that does not leave much time for opening day '08. -
^ Depends on what your opinion of lengthy is. Maverick's heartline. MF's elevator cable has snapped a couple of times. As well as the main computer has blown at least once. Etc. But I was actually leaning more towards the early issues of WT, TTD, and KK.

Excellent point. SD was nothing more than *meh*. But there really was nothing like WAS on a hot day. Just to sit there, completely relaxed, in AC. But being a seasonal park, it is hard to justify having an attraction like WAS. I find it difficult to believe that it did not run in the red, even with the upcharge (which BTW was worth every penny).

It could just be a Huss design/ engineering issue. Look at both Delirium and Maxair. Both have had lengthy downtime issues. Perhaps Huss is to flat rides as Intamin is to coasters?

Could Son of Beast Accident Been Avoided?
Browntggrr replied to coaster_junky's topic in Kings Island
There is an old saying: Take a piece of crap. Polish it up nice and shiney. What do you have in the end? A piece of crap. Maintenance could not have found the issues with SoB. Unless they were expected to a test on each verticle support everyday, which would have made the ride stay SBNO more than it already has. -
It is too bad that skjackson had a bad time. Apparently it is not as well known that : 1) When there is good weather during these events, they get crushed as experienced is years past. On a side note: apparently CP's season attendence record was broken on Saturday with possible numbers over 50,000. 2) It is currently not an upcharge, but in 2008 it will be which will help with crowds. Actually I really don't see how people are upset about criticism of the park, just that when someone comes in here and proclaims their knowledge because they vote in a tainted poll is acting just like the 16 year old tag that they claim to actually be avoiding. Or they are acting like Al Gore proclaiming that he started the internet. Especially since it has well publicized that HH in 2008 will be an upcharge event, how would this well informed and knowledgeable Golden Ticket voter not know this? It has been news on every enthusiast site even before it was announced that there would be an upcharge in '08 but not in '07. And another qualification to vote for the Golden Ticket awards is that you could be a subscriber to Amusement Today. Well I wonder how that makes you a well traveled fan? It certainly makes you a paying fan, yet I question well traveled. Especially since you can find Amusement Today at a dentist's office. I am willing to bet there are some that frequent this bored that do vote for the Golden Tickets, yet never felt compelled to announce it with the expectation to be treated different. And it is also quite apparent that those who spend the most money on advertising in Amusement Today seem to be the ones that also win the most. Do you think that CF would spend money on a full page ad for CP if they were voted the 5th best park? While parks like Kennywood or Hershey decide to spend their revenue in other areas and don't seem to get the respect from the GTA, yet many enthusiasts adore those parks. Those would be the same enthusiasts that bash CP on a daily basis, yet CP is #1 yet again. If you really want to get a good feeling on how enthusiasts (which all of us are) feel about the Golden Tickets, look at some of the responses here: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=10703

Sorry but, HAHAHAHAHA! With how valid the Golden Tickets are nowadays, I'm really not sure you should admit that. It's embarressing. I just love the people that pat themselves on the back and claim to be "experts". Honestly though, why would you even say that? If you were that knowledgable of an expert, your expertise & knowledge would show through your posts, not because you are patting yourself on the back because you vote in a very tainted award.

Then what they have been doing with it all year? There have been numerous reports that the themeing has been removed for repair and/ or replacement. Obviously they are doing something.
-
That would explain it. Hot day + riding SoB= delusions I really doubt that CF had any intentions of bringing FH to KI less than two weeks of taking possession of the park. Now add to that: CF is notorious for not releasing their "plans" for new rides. Now a ride, coaster no less, leaving one park and going to another? That is even bigger news than a new coaster being installed. Top that with a regular park employee knowing the information? Sorry man, I don't buy it.

Smokers Tossed Out Of [SF]GAm
Browntggrr replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I am a smoker (one pack/ week) and I have no problem with most of the current smoking laws. I'll go outside, or be in a designated area. The only law that I do disagree with is the law forbids private owners from making their own rules. The state should not force me to have my establishment be smoke free. They don't pay my bills, taxes, liquor license etc. I'll even go as far as to put a sign outside that states the my bar is a smoking environment. Now where the state law really burns my a$$ is that they will try and dictate that my establishment must be smoke free, but when it comes down to the casinos? -Sure smoking is allowed. Especially since the state gets a large chunk of cash from the casinos and it is not exactly a hidden secret that a majority of gamblers smoke. Niagara Falls Canada has two casinos. And even though smoking was prohibited in all buildings in Canada, it was acceptable in the casinos until recently (perhaps a year ago). Since then, Casino Fallsview (bigger casino floor than MGM in Vegas) has seen a 30% to 40% drop in their revenue. People will now go to Seneca Nation which is right across the Niagara River in Niagara Falls, NY. Many smaller taverns in Ohio and New York have felt the same effect, but the difference is, those establishments are owned by individual citizens, not corporations like most casinos are. -
^July of '06? Show me the link and quote for that one. I really can't wait to hear how this can be confirmed. CABANA LADY STRIKES AGAIN!

Which is exactly why the name was changed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banshee

It's funny that now you are trying to point out the differences between PP and CF. Lets not forget that this same prop has been used in the same place before CF ever took over. Lets also not forget that CF also changed a name of a major thrill attraction because they thought it might be offensive to women. If you have an axe to grind, so be it. But let's be honest about everything.
-
It doesn't. But neither does blood, gore, Jason, Freddy (see IoA), Michael Myers, corn mazes, pumpkins etc. The holiday has just evolved into what it is today because people enjoy it, just like so many other holidays. Funny how it has become the 2nd most popular holiday. How did Santa Claus ever become part of Christmas? Or the Easter Bunny become part of Easter. Or why did Valentines Day derive from St. Valentine? They have all evolved into what they are today because people enjoy it more this way. BTW, Saturday is Sweetest Day, the traditional "Lets give more money to Hallmark day."
-
Sure the park made numerous announcements about the methods used during HH. But this is a different type of prop used. It's not scary, bloody, or insulting. It is just a prop. It does not give the appearence to have a hidden meaning. That is my only point.

Smokers Tossed Out Of [SF]GAm

^ Actually, now that you mention that... Certain courts can only handle up to a certain dollar figure. I wonder what the limit would be at the state level? -
But you are making it out that in this instance the park is doing something with malicious intent. I don't see how the park is acting like that here. Perhaps with the Owen Wilson reference, or using the SoB trains, but not here. If you really wanted to go even deeper, is it also in bad taste that there is a cemetary set up near the Eiffel Tower? And since this same boat prop has been used before in the same way, it is quite obvious that not many other people thought about it as well, until now when it was brought up.

Smokers Tossed Out Of [SF]GAm

Well it seems that you always want to have some sort of "lawsuit reasoning" for everything, but never back it up. Weather it is dealing with slander or threatening lawsuits against companies that make their decisions on their own private property, your reasonings are laughable. And ironically, I did look it up. And surprise, surprise; nothing about $5,000,000 was found. Unless you are trying to tell me that either: 1) No Ohio media outlet or national media outlet can add up all the *just Ohio* lawsuits against Best Buy. A *just Ohio* $5,000,000 lawsuit vs. Best Buy would be huge news, but nobody could figure it out? -or- 2) Columbus media outlets do not get published on the internet. So sure, there were lawsuits pending against Best Buy, but nowhere close to the numbers that you claimed to be true. Now it is funny that you bring up the "a law is made alot of times blah-blah". What exactly does that have to do with Best Buy losing a $5,000,000 lawsuit? Even if this whole Best Buy thing would be true, it does not make it a law if they are found guilty. Stick with Judge Judy and her buddy Judge Joe Brown. -

Those numbers seem rather exaggerated. -
I really thought that Wedding Crashers and You, Me, and Dupree were rather enjoyable movies. I'm on the fence with Anna Nicole Smith. It is rather embarressing to admit, but, I did see her show a few times on E!. She was a distasteful pig on the show, and her life and death is a tragic story. But she sure did not hold back on her show, so I'm wondering if anyone should hold back on her.

I can see that as crossing the line. But it is also a prop that you can see at every other halloween event. The accident on Black Sunday had nothing to do with a boat, and skeletons are used all the time for these types of functions. And quite honsetly, chances are the park did not even think about the accident at all. There really is nothing that the prop is using that uses any type of reference to the accident. If I would have seen it, I would not have even thought about the accident until someone brought it to my attention.
