Firehawk to Debut Saturday, May 26th!
Browntggrr replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
^ Good question about media day. Perhaps they are not going to have the traditional media day since it is not a "brand new" ride. Or there will be no media day due to the ride's grand opening while the park is in the full summer swing. I highly doubt they would schedule a media day on a Saturday, and even moreso, the ride's opening Saturday (and Memorial Day weekend). That would be absolute chaos. -
Conneaut Lake Status

http://www.goerie.com/apps/pbcs.dll/articl...D=2007705120347 Since the unfortunate closing of CLP has been brought up, here is a link for a new coaster for 2008 at Waldameer. ... just in case anyone is intrested in visiting NW PA. -

Grass- yes. Themeing?- We'll see. I would not hold your breath though. KI may try and theme the area, but I highly doubt they will be themeing the ride. -
Conneaut Lake Status

I live near CLP and while it is a sad story for such a quaint family park, it really is not a surprise. For the past 13 years the biggest story of the park has been-"Is it going to open this year?". The park did not open in 1995, and has barely opened the other years. Sometimes the whole park would open, sometimes it was different parts of the park etc. It has actually gotten to the point where most in the Meadville/ Erie/ Grove City area had no idea if the park was open or not. The park as a whole is $2.5 million in debt, so loans are out of the question. The area around CLP does not have the population to support the park, and those traveling 50+ miles never knew if it was open, so they would arrange other plans. -
Replacement track is on site. http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm Apparently the target of early June is right on. I'm sure they will have to do another pull through and many more cycles, but everything is looking good so far.

^If that scenario is correct, then Paramount did not want to spend the money on a case that they knew they could win. The precident that was set almost gauranteed PKI would win, and chances are CF would not even fight it in court due to their previous loss vs. SF. But that scenario is a stretch. I'm sure the media, or some crazy enthusiast, would have gained knowledge of the proceeding and it would have been public knowledge. The in the public eye it would have been Big Bad CP vs. little GL that SF is trying to save.

How does the saying go- 'Feed a cold, starve a fever'. 'Have a headache, go on Beast' Hey that would be a great commercial! *Husband and wife go to bed. Wife has usual headache. Husband replies "Let's go for a ride on The Beast."* Oh ya, have that commercial played during the Super Bowl and KI becomes the most famous thrill park in the world!

Firehawk Has Final Touches and Testing
Browntggrr replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
There are arguements for both sides, many which you mentioned. But the one advantage of relocating vs. new is cost. KI spent about half of X-Flights' original cost ($15 million), and that was back in 2001. You can only speculate what a ride like that would cost in 2007. But one thing is certain, the price tag would not be less today. So yes, while it may be easier to build brand new, the costs associated with buying brand new is worth the headaches of relocation. Not to mention, since GL did not have the attendance to justify a ride like XF, it seems like a perfect fit as FH at KI. -
Geauga Lake updates!

Then where have the guests gone to? If GL is having attendence issues, their guests (or former guests in this instance) have gone somewhere else. And yes, I do choose KI over GL. And I live in Erie, PA. about 130 miles from GL, but 360 from KI. -
If they tested it, why have there been so many issues with the hydraulic system? And not only on TTD but also on KK. http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS17/108070119 ... this has now become even MORE intresting.

^A company is not going to fly a salesman around the globe just for a one park visit. He will hit multiple parks on a given journey (i.e. KI, CP, Hershey, Dorney, KD, BGE, Carowinds etc.). And the cost for a hotel is about $110- minimal for the business traveler in the business of selling multi-million dollar rides.
-
If that is true, the salesman needs to be fired. Since when does a company take "no" for an answer? Even at a multiple rate.
-
You have to wonder if the engineer(s) are going to keep their jobs after a snafu like this. With all the problems TTD had, it was somewhat understandable; you just cannot test something with that kind of power at a testing facility. With Maverick, I would have to think they could have built a model of the heartline roll, even at a reduced speed, and had a somewhat accurate test. It still will be a rather fun ride even w/o the heartline roll. You cannot lose what you never had. ... or something like that.
-
That is intresting. But it still does not answer how SF could build a B&M being so close to CP and KI could not. I also question why the VP of a fabricating facility would know about B&M's contracts. ... but I have been wrong before.

Geauga Lake updates!
Browntggrr replied to mutedarkness's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
So you are suggesting that CF has the same area at Geauga & KI? If both parks had the same thing, families are going to choose to go to KI over GL. -
What paper? I would like to look it up.
-
Nah. That area is too wide open. People can see everything. If you want romance, check out the photo booths. They are much more private.

Who would you want to make a signature steel for KI?

^Intamin? T-Bar? Please tell me you forgot the . -
I still question how true the whole "non-compete" story. It has been brought up before, and there have only been rumors and no hard facts. SFWoA put in a B & M back in 2000. The same clause would have affected them as well. Not to mention, it would be not make sense for B & M to make this kind of agreement. The more coasters they build, the more money they make. Also even if there were this *agreement* that has been mentioned before, how long would it last? The last B & M built at CP, Mantis, was built 11 years ago. That is a very long time to have this type of agreement. And... (I'm on a roll now ), why would B & M not be able to build near CP, but CP can bring in another coaster manufacturor (Intamin). It just doesn't make sense. My theory is that Paramount just didn't want to spend the money on a B & M. They might be expensive, but they meet their deadlines and normally don't have major issues (i.e. Maverick, TTD, WT, SoB).

More Action at Ft. Kinzel!

The definition of insanity is what? I remember when MF opened in 2000. There were only 2 trains operating due to the third train not having enough cycles (insurance or safety issue?). Opening day was rather ugly, great weather but also a great line. Let's hope that there will be 2 trains. I would have to guess that the best time for the ride to open would be next Wednesday. The park needs some time to break the crew in. Breaking the crew in on Saturday would be ugly.
-
^Alot of work can be done during the week when the park is closed. Can anyone confirm that there is still only one train on the tracks?

Cedar Point Question
Browntggrr replied to bparrott03's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Well is he a BIG 6'2 or a skinny 6'2. If he is a skinny 6'2 there should be no problem. If his waist is over 42" he may have an issue. He should have no problem with Magnum. TTD should be OK. MF may be an issue. There are test seats for TTD, MF, WT, and Raptor. He should try them before getting in line (but then again, the test seats are not a gaurantee. -
^It was my understanding that SF used the third train for spare parts. I could be mistaken though.
