Haha, agreed with PkiJake a rollercoaster that had track at the park would be opening in 2006, no park just stores track for a new coaster. Plus the fact that this is coming from the guy who stated what a 190 acre rollercoaster? Hahaha, you really do need to grow up and stop making rediculous claims.
-
Well if this is true then the possibility of PKD getting a B&M floorless as PKDfan has been saying may be true also. Remember Paramount has this thing for building rides in pairs. Hopefully though they break from that trend and build 3 of them this year. Hey, you never know there is a reported third coaster coming to the Louisville area. Even though I'm pretty sure that it's just wishful thinking and we'll be getting Nick Expansion.

I agree with you that most things are Christian base and I can see why you dislike it but it goes along with everything else in marketing. They market to the majority most of the time and ignore the minority. In America the vast majority of people are Christian and therefore most marketing is based towards them. I'm not saying it's right but for marketing's sake it makes the most sense to target the majority even if it means excluding the minority. The harsh world of buisiness.

Ah coaster guy, you were on the right track but you missed it. Think about it, what's the biggest tradition at PKI, well The Beast of course. The snow obviously indicates a possible themeing so a possible Polar Beast. Now if you think about it what Beast is missing from a nuclear family? The mom of course. PKI I'm sure has thought about this long and hard and realized that they can't claim to be a true family park unless The Beast family is your traditional nuclear family. How are you supposed to explain to your kids how their can be a father, son, and baby but no mom. PKI has realized their mistake and will rectify it next year. Polar Beast won't be the name though. Think polar is typically used with polar opposite to mean completely different, so what would be opposite of Beast? Mother Beast of course. So that will be the true announcement. Now how's that for reading in between the lines Shaggy? In all seriousness though it will be nice to have Winter fest come back. The only thing is it does seem a little weird that they would hold a press conference just for winterfest when they have basically stated that's what it is. Plus, if history repeats itself their announcement for the new 2006 attraction would be just about a week later. I wonder if they might have more than just winterfest in mind because it makes no sense to hold two press conferences within almost a week of each other. Either that or the announcement for 2006 will be later than the past couple of years.

^Yep, they certainly do build everything that people want; that's why SFA hasn't had a new coaster for 4 years, SFAW hasn't had one in 6, SFDL hasn't had one in 6, SFFT hasn't had one in 5, SFKK hasn't had an actual new coaster in 5, and SFSL hasn't in 5. With most of these parks not looking to get another coaster for years and years to come. I agree they add what everyone wants.

Did you not read the entire thing? It says get ready for the wildest, most thrilling, most exciting, MINI COOPER STUNT RIDE of your life. Can you show me where it ever claims to be the most thrilling or exciting coaster? That's because it doesn't say it. It says it's the most exciting, thrilling mini cooper stunt ride and as far as I'm aware it is the most exciting mini cooper stunt ride, so it was and is very correct and honest about what it is. Also, with people repeating themselves, how many times have you said "Oh IJ:ST sucks, it's so boring, I hate it, I'll never ride it, IJ:ST is not intense at all, and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah." Seriously how many times can your complaints of IJ:ST be found on this board 10, 100, 1000 times? We get it you don't like IJ:ST, we don't care, and in your own words, "quit repeating yourself."
-
^^IJ:ST wasn't a bad investment. It cost around $10 million and in today's world that isn't that bad for a new coaster at all, it's not like it cost 25 million or anything. Delirium alone was 5 milion. The worst investment PKI has ever made was by far SOB, not only was it 15 million but it also has required millions and millions of extra spending after it has been completed and it didn't bring in the people like PKI hoped and didn't work much when it was opened. I would also say from a buisiness stand point that TTD was a bad investment. When it opened it barely ever worked and CP's attendence didn't increase nearly as much as a coaster of 25 million should. Plus it is also a maintence nightmare like SOB. I think IJ:ST with its relative low cost will bring in a fair amount of people for the cost and actually be a great investment.
-
oh my god, while in the BTR que i thought i was in gotham city, also all the trash on the ground was a nice theming touch as well! Lol, yay, Six Flags poor maintence and lack of TLC for their rides creates a trashy enviroment that actually ADDS to the themeing. I've been saying this for years, why doesn't Six Flags just name every one of their rides "Hell:The Ride" that way the themeing on all the rides would be Disney quality considering all their rides look like Hell. Although from what I've heard and seen over the past couple years Six Flags is starting to make some of their parks much nicer and better maintained than before, namely SFGA and SFGADV
-
True a high speed car chase would go faster but consider this too. For Top Gun how many jets only go 50 some mph. For TTD how many Dragsters only go 120mph. How many Mantis' can move at 60mph? Days of Thunder how many stock cars go like 30mph? You just gotta accept it for what it is. I also agree that the boost isn't noticeable and I was paying attention for it, it's supposed to be like right as your coming out of the tunnel into the splash.
-
^So your saying what's coming is something that is small, uneventful, and something that no one really wants?
-
^Not wanting to turn it into anything. You made a comment based on your opinion and I showed you through fact that one was obviously more succesful than the other. Besides I was just stating my opinions and you tried to make it peronsal by calling people stupid. So I'm sorry if you can't read someones opinion and respond to it maturely without having to resort to calling people names. It's not even that I myself would hate an Addams Family coaster, its just that I really don't think it would draw many people in and wouldn't help Paramount parks like they would hope. I do agree with you that it could make a cool dark ride idea, but I just don't see it being well recieved, maybe it would be I could be wrong, but I personally don't know anyone that gives boo about the Addams Family. I'm sorry I didn't realize that you knew all the statistics about all of the surveys. And how many guests actually take the surveys? As far as I'm aware its only the fanatics that are on this site and some of the season pass holders. The majority of guests don't even know that Paramount has surveys, much less care about them. But like I said I could be wrong and you could be right and the Addams Family may be sucessful. But then again with the name issue we may not have to worry about it for years to come.
-
I'd hate to see the Addams family at any of the Paramount Parks. I think it would be a huge and utter mistake to theme a ride after the Addams Family. The Addams Family hasn't been around for years with the last decent movie involving them coming in 1993. Every T.V show that has come out for the Addams Family in over the past decade has been a flop and usually gone under in a couple years. Plus the Addams Family Reunion which is what they want to theme the coaster after was one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It had horrible acting and a horrible script, one of the cheesiest movies I've ever had the displeasure of seeing. Plus it only came out on video, wasn't even good enough to go to theatures, why would you theme a ride after a horrible movie that wasn't even on the big screen? It makes no sense to theme a ride after a set of characters that hasn't been popular for a decade and a half. The Addams Family is pretty much dead as a entertainment idea. If you asked the majority of the people in today's world what they thought of the Addams Family they would either replie "Who" or "Oh yea, I think I saw one of their movies once, I think I remember it being ok". There are very few people that would be excited to hear about the Addams Family and say "Oh I can't wait." Many would think why in the world would Paramount theme a ride after something that hasn't been popular for over a decade and even then the movies weren't even smash hits. I think it would be very hard to draw people in with something as outdated as the Addams Family and that's why I think it would be a horrible mistake for Paramount. I doubt the Addams Family would increase attendence at all. Firstly Addams Family Reunion wasnt a paramount movie it was a Warner Bros. movie the ride concept behind the addams family dive-machine was to be themed to the first two paramount movies in which you visit the addams family manison and test out uncle festers lastest invention and when you return after testing uncle festers invention you come back apart of the Addams Family hence the theme name addams family reunion. The Addams Family has been around since the 1932 when the comic appeared in the new yorker magazine written by Charles Addams he had dark comedic visions of death and macabre, his comics strips where an instant hit.a guest appearance on Scooby-Doo lead to an animated series between 1973 and 1975 The series featured the voices of Jackie Coogan, Ted Cassidy and a young Jodie Foster as Pugsley. The characters were revived in 1991 and 1993 with the movies "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values"which both movies starred Raul Julia and Anjelica Huston The films were directed by Barry Sonnenfield. They were purportedly based on the original cartoons and not the TV show. After the first films release it lead to a new cartoon series in 1992 while the movie still to this day does extremely well when I worked at suncoast we sold a copy of the first Addams Family Movie every week! and not only did the title garner $113.5 million at the box office, it has so far raised an additional $56.2 million in rentals. the Addams have shouldered their way up to be one of the prominent families of classic American entertainment, right up there with the Nelsons, the Waltons, the Cunninghams or the Bradys so to say TOP GUN is more popualr is very stupid and dumb of you. The Addams Family has a HUGE fanbase and when the Addams Family Reunion Concept appeared on the Paramount Survey in early 2004 it ranked 1# so if you asked people if they would like to see an Addams themed ride they would most likely be for it the Addams are far from being dead in the entertainment area people know them and love em and want to see more of them. ***Side Note*** 95% Guests that took the survey said it would double there chances of going to a paramount park if the addams family reunion was built when paramount asked the question on the survey in early 2004 at least that is what I have been told. I for one would LOVE to see an Addams Attraction I would perfer to see an addams attraction over Sky Captain or Top Gun,M:I,Tomb Raider heck I want to see Addams Family''Movie'' Merch in PKI and other Paramount parks a lot of people feel the same way I do.Sleepy Hollow would never make a good attraction unless it was for FearFest...PKI is lacking in Dark Ride area a Addams Attraction could and would fix that. Scooby you just proved my point with your numbers. The Addams Family garnered as you say 113.5 million box office with an additional 56.2 million equaling a total of 169.7 million dollars, not bad. Now lets look at Top Gun, Top Gun grossed 521.6 million just in box office alone, so not including inflation, even though Top Gun came out 5 years earlier than Addams Family, Top Gun earned 351.9 million dollars more in just box office than Addams Family has earned total. So Top Gun just at the box office earned more than 3 times what the Addams Family has earned total, if you included rentals, I'm sure Top Gun would beat it by more than 4 times the amount. Also, not to mention the fact that Top Gun is 93 on the all time box office grossings, while Addams family is no where to be seen. Also, Top Gun is seen in many different movie countdowns while the Addams Family isn't. Including the top movie quotes of all time hosted last night by AFI. Top Gun was 94 with "I feel the need-the need for speed." And while that is pretty far back in the countdown, it was on the list, unlike the Addams Family. So if you look at the facts Top Gun was obviously much more sucessful than Addams Family. And like I said the Munsters were much better anyways.
-
I think you'd be surprised at how many people don't know what the Addams Family is. If you say the name people may be like "Oh yea, I've heard of them." But I can guarentee you that out of those people very few could name characters like Wednesday, Uncle Fester, Gomez, Cousin Itt, Thing, or any of the other characters. Very few people could name actual characters from the Addams Family and would only recognize the name, which would show that people don't really like or know what the Addams Family is about. So although people may know the name of the Addams Family most don't really care about it so I don't think it would draw in many people at all. I agree with the Top Gun thing, but it was built 12 years ago and when it was built Top Gun wasn't that old. They just haven't rethemed it since it was built, but I would agree that building a new coaster after a Top Gun theme wouldn't be a very good idea. Although, some would argue that Top Gun is a classic movie, much more so than the Addams Family. You see Top Gun on lots of movie countdowns and such, I've never seen the Addams Family, besides it was much more popular as a show in the 1970's than as a movie in the early 90's. As far as good movies to theme rides after, your right Paramount is lacking, but still there are other, more recent movies that I think might draw more people like Mission Impossible (a new one is starting filming), Sky Captain and world tomorrow, Timeline, the core, sum of all fears, some type of Star Trek, Sleepy Hollow (could be kind of scary), or whatever. I know most of these movies are much worse than Addams Family but at least they are semi-recent and would probably attract more people. Then again maybe I'm kind of biest because I always thought that the Munsters were funnier than the Addams Family.

More Riders Hurt on Rides
thejoker8388 replied to flightoffear1996's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
No worries. As it has been stated numerous times in numerous places your 100 times more likely to die in a car crash on the way to an amusement park than die in an amusement park. And I think I heard on some show that your 10 times more likely to die in the park of heat stroke, heart attack, and things of that nature than actually dying on a ride. -
The nations top 10 theme parks
thejoker8388 replied to pkiboy's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Haha, the lists keep on getting worse and worse that I see. I've been to Santa Cruz Boardwalk and its more like a fair it has maybe 3 coasters I think and a log ride and a couple others, it was fun but very small and no where close to the top 10. Astroworld looks like it maybe has one or two nice coasters but it surely isn't anything special, not even close to the best in the Six Flag chain by the looks of it. Camp Snoopy? it's in the Mall of America and I think takes up 7 total acres with only three small coasters and only Timberline Twister looks worth a ride. Astroland only has 2 coasters and only one looks worth a ride. So yea, I'd have to say this is just a horrible list all the way around. Plus as already stated I would only classify 3 of those as theme parks with Busch Gardens Tampa, Disneyland, and Magic Kingdom. -
^I never would want Six Flags to go belly up because as you said I like choices. My argument is that these parks on average would be nicer then they are now if they were owned by Busch, Cedar Fair, Paramount, etc.
-
^I think SFGADV would be wise to hold off on the Intamin woody for a year or two. Considering their latest Intamin essentaiy destroyed itself and is requiring additional millions to repair. But hey as said before this is Six Flags and they aren't know for wise decisions.
-
^Depends on how you view roughness. Beast is definetly rougher than SOB in a powerful shaking sense, but it's what I would consider a good roughness like what Legend at HW has, a powerful shaking that is fun. SOB's roughness is more of a jarring bouncing rough that isn't the "fun" type of roughness.

^I'd agree with you top gun has gone to hell. The planes in the que that have been there forever are even gone. And I'm not very observant at all. I think AE, FOF, and TR:TR all look great, I don't notice much but I did notice that Top Gun was bad. I don't know what they plan to do with it, I for one would hate to see it go, I love the ride and from what I hear along with Big Bad Wolf and Vortex its one of the best suspended coasters around. I'd hate to see it go, I think it's a fun short ride, but from the looks of it it may only have a year or 2 left in it's life at PKI. If PKI gets rid of it I hope someone else would buy it and not just leave it sitting around like King Cobra.

Well, I finally got down to PKI this year for the first time. I've been so busy with school I hadn't been able to make it. The morning started out early when I left at 8:00 with 7 of my friends. We live in Columbus but the traffic wasn't bad and we got to PKI a little after 9:30. We decided that we would wait for IJ:ST first and when the rope was dropped we quickly made our way there, to find that it was closed and they had no idea when it would open, so we went to FOF. FOF-still my favorite steel in the park, great launch and intensity. We rode twice in a row as there was no one waiting. Everyone says that this ride has gone down hill, but I still think it's an amazing ride and don't know what people dislike. I know the movie is cheesy but oh well. Also, on a side note the air conditioning was amazing as it was really hot outside. And if you ever are enjoying the lighting or air conditioning just remember that it was my dad that designed it, haha. We rode FOF a total of 4 times throughout the day and I'd give it a 10/10. After FOF we rode Racer fowards and backwards, the fowards seemed rough and not nearly as exciting as I remembered it, but backwards was running great and was alot better. The lines were walk on and were so all day. They were also racing yesterday which was nice. fowards 6/10 backwards 8/10. Next we decided to hit Face Off and Drop Zone, while the lines were short. We rode Face Off first, still a great ride and by far the best boomerang I've ever been on. Smooth and Intense with a 10 minute wait. 8/10. Drop Zone had about a 15 minute wait, I love its drop, best Drop Tower I've ever been on. I noticed it was rotating again, unlike last year, which was nice.9/10 We then hit Top Gun since it was close. The line was walk on and we decided to ride twice because no one was waiting. Short but fun like always, although I agree that the themeing is now non-existent. I've always liked arrow suspended, although I've only ridden 4. 8/10 Next was SOB, for the almost necessary ride. The line was walk on and SOB was smoother than I remember it from last year. My problem with this coaster isn't it's roughness, but instead it's layout. The layout is fairly boring and uneventful. It was my only ride of SOB for the day. 6/10 After that Action Zone was done, because of Delirium being out of comission and it was only 11:30. Next we rode Adventure Express with walk on and we rode 7 times without getting off. Very fun mine coaster, like always, used to be my favorite as a kid. 8/10 Vortex was next. It was running great yesterday and that first drop is one of my favorites of any coaster, great air time. The corkscrews and the drop are always my favorite parts and I'll be very mad if they take out this ride. It was very smooth yesterday and the wait was less than 5 minutes. Rode it 4 times throughout the da.9/10 We then rode Beast. Rougher than I remember it, but this coaster is still my favorite of any coaster. Great times with only a max of a 10 minute wait for the 8 times we rode it. Got 3 night rides, and it is amazing at night, love the coaster. 10/10 Next we rode TR:TR, which seemed to be operating all day w/o issues. I still personaly like the themeing and think its cool, altough it has potential for alot more with maybe a couple of extra flips. The first ride was our longest wait of the day for about 45 minutes, but it was raining outside and when we were done riding the rain had stopped, so the wait was actually perfect. We also got the last ride of the night on it. Walked right in, the movie was already playing and hopped on the ride. 8.5/10 At around 5:30 we were walking by and saw that IJ:ST was finally testing so we decided to wait. After about ten minutes a ride op came out and told everyone that they didn't know how long it would be until it opened and that he encouraged everyone to go ride something else. We waited about another 2 minutes and decided to go when I saw some commotion by the station and they came and told us IJ:ST was open for riders. We got on after waiting two trains. The ride is fun with a great launch and helix, I also got some good air on the part after the over banked turn and the helicopter scene was neat. The tunnel was also very fun. My only problem with the ride is the length so I'd give it a 9/10. I'm glad we waited because the line got very long and we only had to wait maybe 2 minutes. We also rode White Water Canyon, Wild Thornberries, Runaway Reptar, Beastie, Scoobie Doo and the Haunted Mansion, altough I got a defective shooter that wouldn't do anything, Zepher (love this ride), Shake Rattle and Roll, Viking Fury (gives a nice little "pop" of air when your at the top), Monster, and the bumper cars. We got multiple rides on everything that we wanted. The park was just about empty, our average waiting time was about 5-10 minutes at most, with most rides being walk ons, including almost all of the big rides. I think that the humidity and scattered lightning kept people away, but the lightning was short and we rode Scooby Doo while it was going on. The day was great with the shortest lines I've ever had a PKI and I'm looking forward to making it back down in about another month. Hopefully Delirium will be up by then. I'd also like to complement all the crews as they were quick and polite and seemed to enjoy their job even during the rain. The Beast crew deserves as special recognition as they were also very enthusiastic about their jobs, especially at night, with doing cheers and everything.

Ben, you're comparing two completly different things here. IJ:ST is meant for families and is not intended to be as thrilling as Millennium Force. Also, on another side note at least IJ:ST can fit riders of decent sizes, MF is ridiculous. My friend who is 6'4" and skinny, cann't fit into MF because of leg room, whereas he can easily fit onto IJ:ST. It's just like SOB, I don't understand why so many new rides are being built for smaller riders when or national demographic as a whole is getting taller and fatter as the years go by. I think it's crazy that some of these rides can't fit people 6'3" or taller or people who sometimes only weight 230 plus. Luckily I'm only 5'11" and 170 so I fit fine. I also agree with PKIBeast when he says that taller and faster isn't the best route. I enjoy Dragster, but its so short it makes IJ:ST seem really long. And really as far as Dragster's rush, it is great, but in all honesty a nice ride on drop zone gives me close to the same rush, so I'd much have rather a smaller coaster with substance, than a tall coaster with absolutley nothing to it.
-
^I'd say it is as long as the line isn't too long. If it's out of the cave and only maybe a turnstyle or two I'd wait, but if it's out of the waiting area, don't wait. Most people either love or hate this ride. I personally like it, just don't go in there expecting anything as good as spiderman the ride and you should enjoy it. I know a lot of people thought Tomb Raider would be as good as Spiderman so they were dissapointed when they rode it. But if you go in there not knowing what to expect you'll probably enjoy it. I enjoy the ride alot. And for what Tomb Raider is, it is a Top Spin, if you've ever ridden one. You can get a look at what it looks like Here at Hussrides.com. It's also got some good themeing for being in a seasonal park. The ride essentially just flips and spins you, but its not a whril-n-hurl, it doesn't make you feel that disoriented or sick like some of those spin rides can.
-
To keep this thread going, I was thinking when do you think PKI is going really sink some money into the park. I mean from 1999-2002 they sank some where around $75-85 million in the park. It could possibly be even a little more because I didn't factor in the Nick expansion, except for Runaway Reptar. Now I'm not sure how much BB cost but I heard the renovation was $10-15 million but it could be more. But estimating from 2003-2005 they've spent around $35-45 million. Now of course those numbers are just the best estimates I can make with what I've heard and whats listed as the expenses of rides. But still you'd think something really big might be coming in the next one or two years with the spending seeming around half during the 2003-2005 span from what it was during 1999-2002. I think we might see something really big (not necessarily in height or speed, but something just really special) possibly in 2006 but most likely 2007. Especially because PKI's attendence has been increasing over the past couple years, So as I stated I truely know nothing but with such a gap in spending it seems as if they could be saving for something really big. What does everyone think, could I be on to something, or am I just dreaming?
-
I got a 22/25, a couple were pretty tricky.
