I don't know if it is a new thing this season, or maybe I'm just getting to Kings Island earlier than I used to. But I've noticed several rides on several visits opening up late. I took my sister this past Thursday - The Beast and Vortex were both closed. The indoor Scooby Doo ride also opened late (not sure if this is normal) as well as Action Theatre.

I've heard "I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight" by U2 at least once on every visit...

I remember riding that lug flume when I was younger...I remember liking it much more than what we have now...
-
I agree - a week or less...

Kings Island has had the best children's area for eight years...which is longer than Nick U. has been around.... The point is...we don't know what kind of offer Viacom is going to give to Cedar Fair. So it may or may not be cheaper...

The problem isn't that there was one incident- there has been a pattern of incidents since the ride opening...

7/31 TR - Rain or shine, great time at KI!
cholderfield replied to cholderfield's topic in Trip Reports
It was very scattered so that is definitely possible - there were a lot of pop up showers/storms in and around the area...when it would pour it would only do so for a few minutes...then sprinkle and some showers...but it was definitely happening in at least some parts of the park, because I saw quite a few people running from the front gates to their cars. And when we re-entered the park, we remarked how we were the only dry guests EDIT: Wow, I can't believe I just now realized this. While it was certainly 7/31 when I posted this topic (12:46am) - my visit to the park was on 7/30 (Thursday). Sorry for the confusion - guess that makes more sense -

I just meant there was more emphasis or details on those rides than any other... -

SBNO - Standing But Not Operating I'm not sure why the video seemed different. It seemed like a whole bunch of different clips put together, but I remember seeing an interview of sorts that was black and white. Maybe I didn't watch it long enough today The best part of the KD trip last week was Dominator. This was one of my favorite rides at GL and I was envious that KD got it and we got FH, because in my opinion - Dominator > Firehawk. Dominator is a ride that I can ride over and over again, while Firehawk is a ride I could easily pass up if the line was too long. -
Shouldn't Kings Island update their website stating that Son of Beast is closed until further notice? Maybe I'm wrong here, but some communication from the park would be appreciated. If not to what's exactly going on, at least to the general public that the ride is still closed.

Had a great time at the park today! It was a nice visit, especially considering I went to Kings Dominion last week, and while it a nice enough of park, it doesn't compare to KI in my opinion. We arrived at the park at a little after 10am, it was busier than I thought it would be considering the weather (mostly cloudy, 40% chance of rain - more on that later) but it wasn't bad. We headed to Diamondback first (like everyone else apparently) and saw the line was at over 60 minutes already, so we held off on that one. We headed back to the Crypt, which was closed on my previous visit to the park. Neither of us had ridden it since it was Tomb Raider. I've kept up on here about how the ride program has changed a few times, seemingly going from one extreme (very intense ride cycle) or the other (yawn). I read on here how bad it was, but I had to see it for myself. Is this ride still really a thrill level of 5? This was the only lowpoint of the day, I guess I shouldn't have been surprised with how bad everyone was bashing it, but come on! What is the point of this ride now? It spins a couple of times, and as far as I could tell it only went upside down twice, with very little force. We were both booing after the ride was over...as were most of the people around us... On a related note, I still don't understand why Kings Dominion's Crypt still has much of the original themeing while ours was ripped to shreds and is almost a small Ferris wheel in a dark building. Does anyone know why this is? I know the rides themselves are different, but the KD ride still looks very much like Tomb Raider. BTW, The Crypt was a walk on ride. Girlfriend and I rode The Beast next - a much better ride than last time! The last time I rode it, it felt like it was barely moving and very rough - however, today's ride was fast and wasn't too rough at all! The wait was about 10-15 minutes. Headed to Vortex next, which was another great ride - the best ride I've had on Vortex in awhile. On a side note, I rode Anaconda at KD and was truly disappointed - it has nothing on Vortex, which offers a faster and more intense ride. The line for Vortex was about 15 minutes. After this we headed to Flight of Fear, which had a pretty long line but it was moving steadily, we waited a little over half an hour. Is the video during the queue the same one they've always shown, or was there another one at some point? Again, maybe its just me but I rode this during my KD trip and the one at KI seemed smoother and faster. Great ride as always! IT started to look like rain, so we headed to the car for lunch (I believe it was around 12:30-1pm at this time). We finished our meal and it started to sprinkle...then pour...then sprinkle...pour...etc. It rained for a good hour and a half, so we took a nap in the car as we waited for it to stop. When we came back in we headed to Diamondback, which was closed for maintenance. Then headed to The Racer and had a great ride as always. Next, Adventure Express and Delirium. I still get a kick out of AE, it brings up childhood memories of my dad convincing me it was a little kiddie ride (at this point i was pretty much afraid of anything with a lift hill higher than that of what is now Little Bill's Giggle Coaster) and since I couldn't see it from the entrance because of all the trees I believed him. Flight Deck and Drop Tower were both closed at this point, FD due to the rain and DT for maintenance. It was lightly raining at this point, but not enough of to worry about. We again headed back to DB, which had a 45 minute wait which we jumped on. We rode in the second seat of the train - I love this ride! We came back and rode Flight Deck, but we were both pretty tired and headed out after that. All in all, a good day at KI!

(emphasis added) That's the part that bothers me, although I'm glad to see there is a "Son of Beast Discussion Thread". The fact is, the line between an opinion of someone on the board and information that could be considered "misleading, inaccurate, or possibly damaging" is a fine line, if not a gray one. Should I only post my opinion if it glorifies Cedar Fair, Kings Island, or KIC? Where Else?

I've never been a huge fan of MF. I think its a decent ride, but if I had the choice of riding either Magnum or Millennium, Magnum would definitely be my pick. To me, it's a much more thrilling ride.

1) Diamondback 2) Magnum 3) Millennium Force

Great pics, sorry the trip wasn't that great! I'm personally looking forward to my Chicago trip in September. My girlfriend and I are flying from Columbus and staying for five nights. We're going to U2's concert (first of the North American leg, I believe) - I'm looking forward to that! Mindy is looking forward to anything else we can find to do. We're staying at the Ambassador East Hotel. Does anyone have any trip suggestions?

Is Holiday World worth visiting?
cholderfield replied to KYCavsFan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have to agree with BoddaH1994 on this one. I think it really evens out, really. Yeah, HW gives you all of these perks. The cost of the "perks" is built into the admission price. KI has numerous many more rides and more entertainment to offer than HW. Not to say that HW isn't a great park that has quality rides, service, etc. I believe both parks are a good value in certain respects- KI in the rides/entertainment dept., HW in the service and quality dept... -
Is that before or after the Mt. Kilimanjaro walk back? ...wait for it.... Yes. Chris...because he beat someone else to it.

Location of premium parking vs getting a locker
cholderfield replied to cmcmindiana's topic in Kings Island
I was at the park on Thursday. We rented an all day locker at the location near the front gate for $8 + $5 deposit. It held all of our stuff, but larger lockers were available for $12 or $13 plus the deposit... -
I'm not sure if this has been discussed on the board, but that slogan at the end of the Diamondback commercial has always bothered me a bit. Glad I'm not the only one...

My girlfriend and I had a great day at the park, it was a pretty slow day and most lines were short (the longest we waited was 10-15 minutes). This was our first trip this season, so we processed our passes a little after 9am- no lines or waits for that. We waited outside the gates until about 9:20am at which time they opened the security gates and we walked through without incident (which was funny because when we came back through after lunch in the car, my girlfriend set the metal detector off, even though she was carrying the same things as before...). Stopped at the front bathrooms, then headed for Diamondback at around 9:30am. Lines were nonexistent; first we rode in the middle and waited I think two or three cars for our turn. This ride is amazing. I love the speed and the smoothness of it all - not forgetting the incredible airtime (love those hills!). After we rode it, we got right back on and rode in the front seat. Again, an amazing experience! There were quite a few closures or at least delays today. Of course, Son of Beast was closed all day along with The Crypt. At park opening, Vortex, Flight of Fear, and Invertigo were all closed. Not sure when Flight of Fear opened. Invertigo didn't open until sometime after 12:30pm (not sure exactly). I noticed Vortex running after that, but again I'm not really sure of the time. After our two rides on Diamondback, we headed to The Beast! I was somewhat disappointed with the ride however; I still like it, but to be honest it felt like a more leisurely than a ride on a "Beast". I agree with most people on the board; the braking this year is ridiculous and slows the ride down to a crawl. I'm sure it may be necessary, but it still sucks. I made a comment as we were going up the first lift hill, something along the lines of "this is probably going to feel rough as hell after riding Diamondback", but with all the braking it really wasn't. - Disappointing! We then headed to Vortex (closed for maintanence), then to Firehawk. This was my third time on it, my girlfriend's first. She was loving it! I like it, but it always freaks me out. I'm okay with upper body restraints, but my legs are what bother me the most! As I stated earlier, Flight of Fear was down, so we then headed to Adventure Express. It was a very hot, humid day. When we left Columbus, it was already 74 degrees and muggy. By noon it had to have been in the upper 80s. Between the two of us, we shared six bottles of water (well, we brought a bottle from home and filled it up), along with stops at the water fountain and a couple of Gatorades. We also rode Drop Tower, Flight Deck, Congo Falls, Invertigo, White Water Canyon, and Vortex. We were going to get in line for Flight of Fear, but it was the longest line we had seen (about 40 minutes) and by that time (somewhere around 4), with all the heat we were exhausted and ready to go home. Again, a great time!...Although it may have helped that the only money I spent in the park was for an all-day locker ($8 + $5 deposit).

I don't understand what is taking so long with the websites. They're not user friendly or intuitive to begin with, and the fact that information presented is incorrect is even worse. "Cedar Fair - Where Else?"

I went the same day (Sunday, May 31) with my girlfriend, father, and sister. As AgentSOB stated, it was a very slow day at the park (the slowest I've ever seen). We arrived at 9am for ERT, and rode Raptor and TTD before park opening. We then headed back to Maverick and rode that shortly after park opening. We rode every roller coaster in the park (well all the adult-sized ones any way ). We rode Iron Dragon at around 5:30-6pm, like stated earlier it was closed for most of the day until sometime after 4pm. Iwanted to ride maxair, but by the time I made it over there it was closed for maintanence and it never did open back up for the evening (at least not that I saw). The longest I waited for a ride was Maverick (about 20-25 minutes). Even that early in the morning (9:45ish) the line was moving slower than usual. Most rides were anywhere from a walk on to waiting a couple cycles. This really was the best day I've had at CP.

millennium force cable

I'll be going to CP on Sunday for the first time this season...however unlikely, I hope MF is back up and running! -
What I don't understand is the fact that KD's "The Crypt" has maintained nearly all of its themeing and ride cycle, while KI's transitioned to horrible themeing with a very intense ride cycle to what it is now...
