  1. I used to go to Disney World every year. Then one season, I went to Universal Orlando, and had an extra day. I called their ticketing department and asked what a one day park hopper would cost. At that time it was $110 dollars..... What a value. It was then and there that I decided that Disney is no longer a value for me. It's a shame but I am not paying a small fortune to visit an amusement park. Ain't gonna happen.
  2. Great photos. Brings back a lot of memories. Small park.....big fun. (Coney Island is fun.....Coney Island is fun....Coney is fun for everyone....isn't that something it's fun!)
  3. Can anyone remember and describe the Lost River? I can't remember if there were dark ride scenes inside or was it just dark? I can just barely remember the lift and the drop. But I do remember standing in the "splash zone" at the base and watching the cars momentarily leave the track as they crested the hill. You could see the wheels stop momentarily. I do wish KI would get an Olde Mill type dark ride. I think it would fit perfectly from the skee-ball area to the restroom (flight commander) area of Coney Mall.
  4. I was eight years old when the park closed but I will try to remember the ride. You stepped into a model T type vehicle and pulled down a lap bar and the car made a sharp right under the overhanging vines through the old fashioned dark ride doors. Immediately there was a skeleton in a chair directly ahead of you. His jaw moved as he said "Welcome to the house of the dead" and you quickly turned right past a skeleton french maid. You immediately began twisting through a series of pretzels left and right through portraits on the walls. The you came to a skeleton playing an organ. From what I remember, you then turned into a banquet hall and circled the table in the room. It was skeltons sitting around the table much like the haunted mansion at disney. Then you went through a set of doors into a burning living room where a boy skeleton was watching tv and girl skeleton was sliding down the stair rail. Then you turned into a hallway that looked as if you were traveling downwards. You then turned left into a torture chamber. You circled through the chamber and into the dark. I then remember traveling through a pretzel area in total darkness. What I remember most was my sister screaming loud enough to break glass! Then you come out of the house on the opposite side a quick pretzel to the left and right back to the loading platform. I asked my sister why she screamed and she said that someone was in the dark and reached out and touched her arm....
  5. Let's see... Glee released a holiday music album this year, has mentioned KI and the Newsletter this week had the title "Imagine Winterfest". Do you suppose CF has seen the errors of their ways since Christmas Town has been a huge success? Nah....
  6. ROFL! Nothing appropriate at all..... Freddie's voice was amazing. How about this song for WindSeeker!
  7. this would make a good theme song for WindSeeker...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8M60rLoCbbo the seats seem like they will be rather tight so this is probably more appropriate
  8. The Restraints are made for small children and kind of like a high-chair tray and totally uncomfortable. The seat has some crazy design. Instead of being form fitting like other coasters its is flat with a fin shape for a leg divider. I decided not to ride at the station. My friend rode it and told me it was rough. That being said, males will find it quite enjoyable as there is a lot of latteral movement causing a lot of "crotch racking". He said the music part was ok and so loud that you couldn't hear the coaster and the design was just ok.
  9. I've never heard of a locality imposing a tax without the electorate voting on it. I would think the imposed tax could be taken to court if not originally voted on and passed by the people.
  10. What besides The Beach and Kings Island are effected by this tax. The articles mention an exception of non-profit organizations. Does this include local Halloween events by non-profits? What about hotels and motels that are full as a result of the beach and ki? Next summer is going to be effected heavily by this tax.
  11. First of all Knobels must be thrilled that this freak has married their ride. Question is can they be sued if they decide to dismantal her husband? The article states that she "carries it's spare nuts and bolts around to feel closer to it"......sounds like a legitimate marriage to me!
  12. I agree with Cedar Pointer. There is something missing at KI. I hesitate to call it.....magic, but the park seems to be more of a carnival than even an amusement park. There used to be distinct areas with distinct bounderies (there are some remnants left), but now you hear the same crap music blaring from every corner of the park. We generally keep moving just to try to avoid listening to it. As a matter of fact, I don't believe that we've stayed in the park more than two hours before becoming annoyed with something and leaving. KI is just is not like other parks. I can't put my finger on what it is but, even with a platinum pass, I could skip KI for the rest of this season and not feel like I've missed anything. I sure hope something changes or I may not get a pass next year.
  13. Could that include being stuck on Pirates of the Carribean for 40 minutes of yo ho ho-ing?
  14. This only proves that your career takes off after you leave KI.

    The Beast!

After all, next year is the 30th year of The Beast.....It wouldn't surprise me to see a new staining of the wood, and maybe a nostalgic return of the exit and gift shop....
  16. Coney Island actually sells both a book and dvd in the park museum. You should check out the museum the next time you are there It is really neat seeing some of the postcards, tickets and pictures.
  17. That was great!!!!, that's when Kings Island actually had a public relations department that cared about what the public felt. It even hyped the next season even if it did advertise a sloppy ride. I imagine season pass sales increased anyway. as a side note, I wonder how season pass sales are going now? I didn't buy one and I expect to travel this year. This will be the first year since 1987 that I haven't bought a pass. Oh well, IF we get a new coaster in 2009, I MAY visit.
  18. ...in other words, he stroked the pen, and dictated changes without ever looking at the books to see what was working at the Paramount Parks. That is extremely poor leadership. He could have used what was working and expanded that to the other parks and increased money there by offering a better deal. Oh well, it was quick money to his retirement fund.
  19. Paaalease, they think a federal overnment agency should oversee amusement rides? They can't even take care of social security, education or any other social service. I can't imagine how they would ruin the amusement industry with bureacracy and red tape.
  20. Drove by KI this evening and several steel buildings were being constructed in the south parking lot near the bus stop. I drove into the parking area, and the buildings look rather permanent. There are at least four structures of different sizes and several large units that look like air conditioners. They are steel structures with siding. There are several trucks in the lot and one truck had a banner on the side that (could barely read in dark) what appears to read "Taste Lexus". Could CF sold a portion of the lot for a business like a car dealership?
  21. cabana girl knows that stuff. Her name was Lola. She was a showgirl, but that was many years ago when there used to be a show!
