  1. When they built FOF - all they had to do was build it. To redo it to an outdoor ride, they have to tear parts down and rebuild parts. So it is going to take a lot longer.
  2. Keep in mind the very first Arrow Corkscrew - a direct decendent of Vortex - is still operating. It was built in the mid 70s.
  3. I should audition for to be one of the Klingons that walks around the park. Too bad they dont have those anymore. Looks like Vortex - round two!
  4. I think they are retheming it to the Soundwave - or another outdoor coaster. Think about it - the LIMs it has now cannot work outdoors because of rain. So they would have to get new LIMs and install them, then calibrate them. That would take a long time. You saw how long it took to calibrate IJST. It took like a month. And IJST only is half the speed of FOF. Then they have to tear down the building, clean it up, repaint it, retheme the station and queue line. It could take the better part of a year to do - which may be why FOF is not opening this year.
  5. The Rivertown lake would be infront of Vortex lift hill and to the right. Vortex lift hill goes straight toward Tomb Raider. There is no lake behind Vortex - I have been back through those roads. There might be a tiny little pond somewhere back in that jungle - but no lake. There is however a huge wooden roller coaster, but its back a ways..
  6. I signed up about a week before PKIC bought PKIU. I remember they mentioned on PKIU that PKIC might be merging with it - and I had never heard of PKIC before! But I came over here, then they merged, so I went from like 0 to 500 posts instantly. So I was one of the last members to register before the merger. Hard to believe that that was a year ago - and there were only like 1200 members - now near 2000! The site has grown alot since then! As far as one million posts go - you have to keep in mind that you aren't going to see a constant growth rate. It is going to gradually taper off to a slow but steady registration rate. That is just the nature of forums like this. Most of the people who like PKI and like it enough to register - already have. So I would say about 9 years for one million posts. Keep in mind it took 2-2.5 years to rack up 100k. We have another 900k to go - thats not going to happen in 5 years.
  7. OK - the Skater doesn't look that bad. It will have more capacity than Ghoster Coaster - and it isn't a Disk'O. Disk'O is basically the same ride motion as a HUSS Frisbee - just what makes it go is different. This skater thing will have a totally different sensation - like Viking Fury but rotating! I for one think it looks pretty cool! I will give it a shot - of course assuming that adults are allowed to ride without children. It may not be a coaster - so yeah we lost a coaster and gained a flat ride. But at least its a cool flat ride.
  8. I like FOF without a big movie theme personally. But if I did have to take a new theme - I would take Star Trek. They could pretty much leave it teh same. Throw a few BORG in the stasis tubes and youre golden.
  9. If they do retheme it - you can guarantee it wont be up to Universal standards. They are probably closing - if it is true - to remove the building and design it as an outdoor ride. That takes alot of work to tear the building down and repaint it.
  10. There are other websites? There is only one website I ever go to and that is PKICentral.com. Well that and klockster.com, sg1archive.com, google.com, livejournal.com, midwestcoastermadness.com, canobiefan.com, thrillnetwork.com, and of course - omg - ytmnd.com
  11. I bet they will sell or stop managing a lot of parks. Like you can buy your season pass at Wyandot Lake in Columbus for like 35 bucks - and it will get you into any SF park.
  12. They should make it the - Textream Cafe!!!!
  13. Ah that is correct - and I might add also that shirts, shorts and shoes must be worn. Also - only 1 rider per seat.
  14. The baggage claim was in the shadow of Yogis Skytours. And I say shadow figuretively because the heat there is sweltering... Hopefully its gone...
  15. That would be a food restriction, and regardless, Flight of Fear has no food restrictions - because no such restriction exists. It has all five medical restrictions. Riders must be 54 inches to participate. Seatbelt must be able to lock. Both feet must be under foot barrel. Rider must be able to independently maintain an upright position, and have sufficient lower body mass to be properly restrained. For your safety, guests with recent surgery or illness, high blood pressure, heart condition, pregnancy, and back neck and bone problems should refrain from riding. Only you know your limitations - we do not. Please ride responsibly. ORC 1711.551 states that all riders must follow all directives given to them by the park and operators. Failure to comply is a misdemeanor. Those are the only restrictions for FOF. Nothing having to do with food. But that is common sense - if you just ate some Bubba Gumps - don't ride a big roller coaster! I have seen what Vortex can do to someone with a stomach full of Bubba Gumps! Well so did about 100 guests and several other operators... I think the only reason the height requirements are different are that one goes 35 mph and one goes 54 mph. Also one goes upside down and the other doesnt.
  16. Yeah I have no clue what he was talking about either.
  17. Didn't you get convinced to ride FOF your first time by the same person, using the same technique, who convinced me to ride Delirium my first time?
  18. Screecher = Alley Cat 500 = Kiddie Whip Squid = Boo Boos Baggage Claim = Kiddie Tumble Bug They will probably both be gone next year... They are carnie rides. I hope they keep the screecher though - it is a fun ride to work, and a classic.
  19. Ron Toomer designed Drachen Fire but it may have been modified from a B&M design. Like the park bought a B&M then didn't want to pay 20 million for it - so had Arrow build it. Who knows. It is pretty awesome looking - but I mean - an Arrow with a cobra roll? Interlocking corkscrews? The thing screams B&M. Er... screamed... I think Toomer is still alive. He just is retired.
  20. A kiddie ride is one of those that say you must be below 54 inches to ride... I am sure we have both worked our fair share of them, Combat. Biplanes, Handcars, Screecher, Kidpike, Squid, Swings, Copters, Boulder Bumpers - thats all I can think of right now...
  21. Yeah I know it is S&S Arrow now - but what I am saying is that they are building an Arrow coaster. Even after they merged, S&S basically only kept the parts shop open - and did not build any new Arrow rides. I hope they realize that compressed air is nothe system of the future - although cool, there are other types of rides out there. So if they are starting to manufacture the compressed air rides under S&S - like the new screaming swings that Cedar Point and Valleyfair are getting, and coasters under the Arrow division - it would be awesome. Sadly though, Ron Toomer - the unparalleled genius that created the best ride in the world - Vortex - is no longer with Arrow. But perhaps they will design some new rides that will bring back the good old days...
