Six Flags isn't a stranger to that. They had plans for one of the Dark Knight mouse-in-a-boxes at SFNE and had to scratch it due to not filing the proper paperwork, no fault of Mack that it wasn't built. Intamin had to re-design V2 at SFDK because it was initially too tall for the city's height restrictions. New Jersey is one of the strictest states in terms of amusement park regulations. Its kind of a miracle that rides like Nitro and Kingda Ka were built at all. I'm 99.9% positive it was more on NJ's laws than Intamin's designs that Kingda Ka and Big Droppy Thing operate the way they do. Intamin got it right across the states at SFMM with Superman and Lex Luthor, so its not like it hasn't been done right by Intamin.

That's not really Intamin's fault. New Jersey's laws and regulations prevent that from happening.

Magic Mountain roller coaster incident
silver2005 replied to rlentless's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The same kind of thing happened a few years ago when you had the Texas Giant incident and then the Shoot the Rapids incident happen mere moments afterwards. Its like deja vu. Please, no more. -
You must have missed the woodie in Planet Snoopy. I'm sure its in contention.

^And what, pray tell, coaster would even fit there? You can't be serious.

^Of course it is. Saxophones make everything better. I really enjoyed it as well. I found one of the instructors that works with the UC band plays trumpet for the group (he's the younger looking man). Even on tunes I don't particularly care for otherwise, it just sounds awesome live with a group like that. I saw Cirque for the first time today as well. Love the new music track and some of the new stuff. I prefer this year's version to last year's. OTC is still my favorite show though.

Kings Island Trip Report- June 12, 2015 Went up for a pretty decent day all things considered. It started out pretty hot and humid, then a big rain storm hit around dinner, but overall, the crowds were on the low side today. Low as in walk on Invertigo and Banshee later in the day. Congo Falls had a rather strange crew as they were really dragging. They stacked 3 boats at a time at one point. It had a line longer than Backlot at one point. The rest of the crews were stellar. Diamondback even hit interval and didn't stack for a good portion of the day! I used that to my advantage as I probably rode it more on this trip than I did almost all of last season. The late rain made Beast and Racer run like a dream. I think the longest wait I had all day was 20 minutes for Delirium, Beast at night, and a late day Diamondback ride. Not too shabby. I tried Juke Box Diner for the first time in a while and highly recommend it. The burger was well cooked and it was very tasty. I think its one of my favorite things to eat outside of the Reds HOF Grille. Ate a pretzel in a very packed Festhaus during the bit of rain late in the day (which shut down all the rides for about an hour). I'll comment on shows more on other threads, but Cirque and Off the Charts both lived upto expectations. For Cirque, I dig the new soundtrack as well as some of the new bits. OTC was heaven. Love the sound of a good horn section (which, KI has a heck of a group), and even a simple musical review sounds sooo much better with live instrumentation. The only other hiccups were WindSeeker and Drop Tower being down all day and Vortex throwing a fit or the later half of the day.

Realize as well that the next tallest coaster in Orlando is SEAS' very own Kraken at 149 ft, so that's a pretty big jump in height for that area. SEAS doesn't need this to be too flashy in the stats department. Tall things also draw the eye from far off, so it may grab the attention of many passer byes. I remember my reaction to seeing Diamondback and Son of Beast for the first time and I was kind of in awe seeing them at those times. Who knows? It may have that affect on others. Also remember SEAS has some financial issues to deal with. They've been making major cuts through the chain and their stocks plummeted after Blackfish.

Where is this taking place? Just asking out of curiosity. I really, really can't partake in this (hot day at an amusement park+alcohol+medical condition=a trip to the hospital for me). It'd be nice to know so I can plan around it.

I have to re-post this here after seeing Goble's photo. Diamond-stacking- you're doing it wrong.

I'm hoping the forecast for scattered and/or pop up showers keeps true for Friday.

The mechanism to help with WindSeeker stopping like that is right by it. Its tucked away by the path that goes to Action Theater.

Accident on Alton Towers Smiler

^Point, but Topper track is still replacing two layers of the wood with steel. Listen, I'm okay with people having differing opinions on this. I realize this issue divides enthusiasts all over, so in this case, I'm okay with agreeing to disagree. -

But the wheels never touch that part of the track. Those layers of wood have no affect or purpose on the ride except to make it cheaper to build than using the Iron Horse track. Wooden coasters only have a thin plate of metal between the wood and the wheels, thus the wood has more of an affect on the ride when it warps due to weather. The Topper Track won't do that. If you make the Topper track cylindrical, you have mine train track. The ties don't matter to me. To me, the closest thing to a 'hybrid' are wood coasters that have had portions of track replaced with Topper track because the rails switch from wood to steel (Silverwood's woodies and Georgia Cyclone for examples). Arrow mine trains, Excalibur and Gemini are steel coasters. Goliath and Outlaw Run are steel coasters. Voyage is a wood coaster. New Texas Giant, Iron Rattler, Wicked Cyclone and Iron Colossus are steel coasters. That's my interpretation. -

^I agree with those points, but they could also make a flying coaster go out over the midway or something, give it some midway interactive elements to it as well (see Manta). Also, some parks have built interesting things into small places. See Hersheypark and Knott's. -
Hmmm...its like all the parks on that list have new attractions or something....

I have had 2 incidents with loose articles on rides. One was at Kings Dominion's Rebel Yell where they did stop the ride, which ruined the racing aspect of course, for someone with a camera (back in '04). The other was a few years ago at Haunt where some kid had the flash on his camera on a constant strobe throughout his ride on Beast, after which, security was waiting for him at the station. So it does happen. Perhaps not very often? I hear Racer crews getting on people all the time for loose articles. You can hear the loudspeaker on the lift from as far away as WindSeeker.

I will agree that a lot of these type of lists come from sources that often don't get facts about coasters and amusement parks correct, but I still try to read them as they show how the GP and the media perceives parks. They still have slight impacts on public opinion on parks and trends they latch onto. I find them a bit fascinating within that notion.

This is the same Guinness that gave Goliath at SFGAm wooden coaster records after all. -

I still don't get the whole TTD one trick pony thing. Sure its short, but it pulls off 2 pretty big tricks. I'm torn between this being a dive coaster and a flying coaster. While it would be cool to see a dive coaster in the area, I've heard the rumor of a flying coaster coming to CP for quite a while (however true it is or not). However, given the area this is supposedly in, a dive coaster makes sense given it can be made much more compact than what you'd want out of a flying coaster. -
How in the world does Cedar Point, the park most of the GP worships and adores, make the list, let alone some of CF's top performing parks?
