  1. Brian's prediction looks very plausible in my eyes. Especially after looking at the footer layout of Diamondback construction. The square footers we all see now in Action Zone seem to be more common with station and transfer track, as opposed to the circular footers being related to the actual ride itself. As soon as I see some circular footers, I will then be excited. Because then some of the more educated on the site can try to determine the layout. EDIT: Are my eyes deceiving me, or can anyone else spot what looks to be circular footers dug out in preparation to be filled in the bottom-left corner of Brian's "station" in the image above?
  2. I love me some Shake Rattle and Roll. Although it makes me feel like a little kid every time I get on. lol. Worth it. If we're allowed to make past votes, my vote is undoubtedly on Tomb Raider: The Ride. The theming and the ride itself were both breathtaking in its own categories. It was something along the likes that the island will probably never see again unfortunately.
  3. Why was the spire removed? Is it possible to comply with FAA code?
  4. ^^^To clarify, I was talking in accordance to "if" there is a clearance issue for airplanes, the elevation of a strata-coaster wouldn't be any taller than Eiffel Tower or Drop Tower. Which are, obviously, legal.
  5. ..And thats brings back the whole Conversation as to whether Kings Island can actually Have a Coaster very much taller than 300' due to the proximity to The Airport.Except for the fact that the Eiffel Tower and Drop Tower are both 315ft tall. Also, is it fair to say that the elevation change from International Street to the valley behind Action Zone is greater than 90 feet? If so, it would be possible to build a strata-coaster. Like Top Thrill Dragster and Kingda Ka. Or maybe the first B&M launched-strata. This is more than likely a dumb dream because I feel like it is uneconomical and also too many G's on the body, but could you imagine a B&M Strata-coaster? Not a launching strata, but an out-and-back type ride, like Diamondback. That would be incredible.
  6. This might be linguistic enthusiast nitpicking, but once you put in an inversion, doesn't it cease to be a giga coaster? That tends to be the rule of thumb with hypers/megas, so I assume it applies to gigas too. Sonny was a hypercoaster, was it not? Loop and no loop.
  7. I was. And I saw no Pat. Take it with a grain of salt though, because I was only at the park for about an hour and I got there later in the day at around 12. It was miserably cold and rainy. So I would have been shocked to see Pat there even under normal circumstances.
  8. That is a great find. And if the sign on the fence was indeed a clue, it fits the "mysterious and bone-chilling screams" and "evil phenomenon" keywords. In legend, a Banshee wails nearby if someone is about to die. There are particular families who are believed to have Banshees attached to them, and whose cries herald the death of a member of that family. I would really fit if the rehauled Action Zone into a "Haunt-ish theme", but I don't think that's probable. Back whenever Mantis was announced at Cedar Point in 1995, it was originally going to be named Banshee. But within days after the announcement Cedar Fair decided it was ghastly and went the more politically correct route and changed the rides name. But what I find interesting about the whole "Banshee" controversy is that Holiday World, one of the most family friendly parks in the industry, had a Chance Flying Star ride named Banshee in 1986. Before finally retiring the ride in 2002.
  9. Lincoln's Boyhood Home is about 4 miles away from Holiday World if some of you folk's are into camping. Its like $16 per night, lol. Quite the bargain if you ask me. Lake Rudolph is also very nice at around $40 a night. (minimum 2 nights though) As far as hotels go, there are some very nice hotels around.. 10-20 minutes away. lol. There is a very nice Comfort Inn about 10 minutes from the park outside of Ferdinand. And if you don't mind a 20 minute drive, I would also recommend the Jasper Inn. Its very nice. Been there quite a few times as a kid. Now, seeing as I don't live far from the park at all, I rarely stay at any hotels. I camp more than stay at hotels. Planning a trip to Lincoln's Boyhood for Memorial Weekend actually! As for the actual HW Hotel, do you guys think it'll actually happen? If so, where?
  10. I was digging around some legal stuff online and I found something rather interesting. http://www.trademark...l-85392870.html Koch Development Corp. has had a trademark on "Holiday World Hotel" for three years. It was renewed on April 10th of this year for its third extension. Does this mean anything to anyone?
  11. If you can get the chance to watch the fireworks while riding WindSeeker, it is really a cool experience. But if you would rather relax while watching the fireworks, I would recommend International Street, in front of the tower and fountains.
  12. I only go to the park once or twice a year, when I'm lucky. So I really have two topics I'd like some people to hit on. Wait times: When I am at the park, time is important to me. I want to be smart with my time and get as many rides and stuff in as possible. Although, I nice sit-down restaurant does sound appealing if I want to take a small break as opposed to going to the food court. But with so many people in the park on any given day, located right beside one of the most popular rides in the park; I can't see the waits being anything other than absurdly long. Pricing: I have always been used to Holiday World's pricing. And what I think is "fair" or "good" pricing, is not exactly Cedar Fair "fair" pricing. So I'm trying to better gauge the prices. Are the prices worth it? As opposed to going to the food court or something quick.
  13. I used to be very indifferent about theming when I was younger, but now that Cedar Fair could care less about theming as opposed to Paramount, who excelled at it, I really miss it. I'm a sucker for good theming actually. One of my all time favorite rides had to have been Tomb Raider: The Ride. Simply because the theming was just superb. Another of my favorite things that Paramount did for the park is building Flight of Fear. Great theming, great ride. So that is why I wins my vote for best themed ride. No competition.
  14. I love Pat, and I love seeing her at the entrance every day. But there is a few things we have to realize: 1) we are enthusiasts. A special group, that would probably notice if Pat was missing from the park on a certain day. And we would also think it strange to not see Pat on the commercials But the general public probably would not even notice a thing. And the emphasis on the rides as opposed to the owners of the park may really help bring in some general public crowds. 2) Pat's getting old, guys. Sooner or later, she won't be there to welcome people at the gates by means of health. That is imminent. So saying that if Pat isn't there, you may not wanna be there seems like sort of a stretch. One day, that will be the case. She won't be there. Or on the commercials. So if Holiday World sees it fit to showcase the rides on the commercials for once, why not?
  15. Maybe I am over-reacting. How much do you guys believe that KK re-opening would hurt Holiday World?
  16. Maybe I am over-reacting. How much do you guys believe that KK re-opening would hurt Holiday World?
  17. Guys, I'm conflicted. Does it make me a bad person if deep down inside I hope that Kentucky Kingdom does not reopen? Because if KK reopens, I feel like it could hurt Holiday World due to competition and possibly hurt future expansion via less revenue. And I don't like that one bit.
  18. What intelligent questions. I wouldn't expect anything else from this board. lol. Normally a forum would be flooded with a ton of yes or a ton of no's and reasons they won't be getting a shirt. Also, I love how immediately wordplay is thrown into the mix. Just a few reasons I love this site.
  19. Yes, Holiday World is very strict on a lot of their rules. Understandably. Its kind of nice in my opinion. Once I was wearing a cutoff T-shirt and while in the water park, my shirt had rested in my locker for a while in the heat. Due to the humidity, the outside of my shirt had rolled up, thus showing my nipples a little bit. A security guard waiting at the Splashin' Safari/Holiday World entrance stopped me and nicely made me put a new shirt on. The shirt was provided by Holiday World. Although at the time I was somewhat annoyed, its nice knowing that the park does such a good job enforcing and caring about their dress code.
  20. Who was the other party that looked at bidding?
  21. We've heard it from the man himself. Thank you Don. And I figured the answer would be a no anyways. I was just wondering if I could find a loophole. lol. That would have taken Video Trip Report to an all new level ;D But I'm definitely not gonna break any rules. So no worries.
  22. (I was a bit conflicted about where to put this topic, but since it has to do primarily with park regulations, I opted to place it here.) I recently purchased a GoPro Hero 3 primarily for skiing, skateboarding, and underwater purposes. But I recently pondered the possibility of it being used for POV video purposes in parks like Kings Island and Holiday World. For those unfamiliar with the GoPro line of cameras, it is a camera that is advertised to be able to be securely mounted almost anywhere. (i.e. Helmets, cars, handlebars, skateboards, surfboards, ect.) And from my experiences it has been a very reliable camera. Very secure. So my question is: with the rules in parks about loose articles of clothing and cameras/cell phones on rides, could a GoPro camera mounted to a helmet or a chest mount be allowed to be worn on rides at Kings Island or Holliday World? It would be very neat to get crisp POV's of roller coasters and/or waterslides like Mammoth and Wildebeast with my GoPro.
