  1. This, this is your answer. We took our 2-3 year old son on that a lot last year when he cleared the 40" hurdle in early summer. My Wife & I both grew up with that ride being called The Beastie, so we continue to call it that even thru the name changes. Our son, who can't read yet, so just calls everything by what we call them, asks to go on The Beastie. I doubt we're the only ones, which is likely what happened with esquire's husband. He was with a group of people that had spent almost a decade calling it the scoobie doo, so they referred to it as the scoobie doo and it sticks. This^ times a million. When I was little, my parents/grandparents/aunts always called it the Scooby Doo coaster. Untill I was bigger did I realize that it was actually The Beastie
  2. This article was a nice read, but the Cincinnati "paper" has seen a steady decline. Is this because of a major corporation running them? Cost cutting choices of less editors, less fact checkers, and the cheapest staff? Moving the paper to be printed in Cbus? All of the above? Possibly. Gone are the days you could read a newspaper a believe everything it said.
  3. Maybe I will show my lack of knowledge in this area but.... why is it that when a company/family owns 1 park is can do so with a slight profit or at least no net loss (either from reinvestment or the like). But when a group tries to take on multiple parks, there begins to be losses. Why is that? What happens to the business model? Business theory would suggest that the more outlets where your goods are sold, the higher the costs but if done well the higher the income (and hopefully the profits). I am commenting on both this situation and also FUN, CBS Parks, Paramount, Six Flags, Etc
  4. Well is that because the ride is SBNO or because we are all a bit older and the hearing is not what it used to be
  5. ride experience meaning ? could this be a simple as comfort or more ? oh if we only had answers Or if this was the 70s/80s the ride would have been dismantled by now.... the comfort of the ride is not the problem....
  6. very interesting to read. With the news about Great Wolf Lodge being thrown around and then seeing what happened with the Beach water park... sort of interesting to see another park try and go all water only... Time will show how good of an idea these all water parks will be....
  7. Thats the root of my question. I get that if you could sell 20 meals at $6 each would be less profit than 10 meals at $12 each. If each meal costs the park $3 then the difference is obvious. But correct me if I am wrong, wouldnt the park make more profit if they could see a 3-4x increase by droping the price in half than keeping it? Again, this is all speculation. As a business you want to charge the most you can while still keeping the same profit (or more). If the food and service are good + a captive audience then prices are justified to be a bit more expensive. But look at what Cincinnati Reds have done. They added a $1 menu to the ballpark. The food servings are smaller but the ball park has obviously seen a reason to keep these types of menu options available as it has helped keep dollars coming into the ball park (versus being not spent by people bringing their own food/drinks).
  8. Like with any business, the answer you are looking for here is whatever is most profitable for CF.I wish there would have been a picture of one of these "ultra-cold aluminum Frost Flow bottle" Sounds cool! http://www.csdecisions.com/2011/08/02/chocolate-milk-crave/ doesnt look any different from normal bottles, just aluminum..... looks like an adult beverage bottle if you ask me
  9. and for the next few years it may feel like FUN has decided to no longer build thrill rides, but it could be a result of FUN trying to fix the lack of balance in the past....
  10. a very entertaining ad, but if it runs more than 2 times per day that may make people turn the tv to another station...
  11. I always end up asking for lite rice, then i load up on the beans (both types), meat, lettuce (lite cheese), 2 types of salsa.... yummy ... but I also put everything in a bowl...
  12. Im sorry but if thats directed at me, you could just explain what is causing you to be so Face Palming.... you know create a nice conversation....
  13. SOB, when it was operating I barely could squeeze into the car. I was 18 and in shape... I doubt at 26 I could fit in comfortably now...
  14. Oh I meant guest safety from a collapse.... like if the the ride would suffer a collapse wouldnt it have the potential to cause damage to surrounding rides (flight deck/Adventure Express/thunder alley)
  15. I dont disagree that the quality is. I was just wandering outloud onto the message board if the prices dropped what the outcome would be... I think its a great idea to hire people who have one specific job to control and ensure quality across the board.
  16. Well the one in Middletown was in a shuttered park. So with all due respect I am not going to address that one But did either roller coaster have the massive footprint this coaster does? As a non engineer, I would think that a massive structure like that would need some maintence to ensure guest safety. Since its so big wouldnt it face more weather? But Im not sure who knows....
  17. how much is the said meal deal... i did not see that on there...
  18. side note... if a park would drop its prices to be competative to the outside food services (a $6-7 burger/fry/drink combo) would the park make more money in the long run versus a $12 combo price and you only get half the purchases.....
  19. So all these changes... looks like FUN maybe trying to get back to the idea of Theme Parks for Families... instead of a thril park... but thats just my opinion...
  20. Well some maintenance has to be done. You cant have a massive structure like that sitting without any work being done. If that was the case, then the structure could collapse. Odds are they are doing maintence to keep the structure upright, but maintence on the tracks may be another thing all together...
  21. I like how if you get 2999 tickets it is only 6 bucks a pop. If you get 3000 or more you say an additional 25 cents....
  22. well I heard on 700 WLW that the attourney General may be looking into this situation. I know people want their money back, but if there is no money then what do people expect? As anyone has said, if there was money to refund these passes, the park probably wouldnt be closed...
  23. Not getting political here, but.... I think mis-management and competition killed the Beach, not the government and economy....
  24. I love this line My wife and I were at CP 2 summers ago, and after we rode what we wanted (sometimes twice), we were done with the park. Their were no shows being presented and if it was a thrill ride we were out of luck... this makes me happy to see the pendulum swing towards the middle of thrill park and family park...
  25. This is actually how they're advertising this season: The four different Columbus Zoo "Adventures". Obviously, the Zoo is one, Zoombezi Bay is another, joined by Safari Gold Course (more an adventure for dad, but I digress) and The Wilds (the gigantic wildlife center in Cumberland, which is now under the zoo's management). The ads are great so far. Thank you! The pics were taken with my phone, as somebody didn't clear the card in our DSLR before we left. I'll again encourage everyone to consider a trip up to Columbus. It has the "charm", attention to detail, and cleanliness you'd normally only find at a Busch park. I did not realize the wilds are now under their "roof" of zoo exhibits. That place is wonderful, and it alone makes it #1 (in my opinion).
