Disney Fastpass+ at Walt Disney World
shark6495 replied to bkroz's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I understand and have always understood the Fast Pass systems, new and old. What upsets me is that I'm paying big bucks to try and have a good time at a given park, and someone with even more bucks gets to cut in front of me. If those people and myself were having a shrimp dinner at Red Lobster, and they had a Red Lobster Fast Pass, would they be seated before me? (I don't believe Red Lobster takes reservations). Having a reservation at a restaurant is fine - but I didn't have to pay to get into the establishment, nor did I pay for parking. good point. But if Red Lobster were to tell you "Mr. Hank, for an additional 20 dollars we can seat you now, and guarantee your food will be delivered 20 minutes faster." some people will say, you know we are in no hurry, its okay Im saving the extra 20 dollars, and some people will say yes seat me now. -

IMHO the idea for fast pass should be used 1 at a time. WDW was nice and gave you a ticket to allow you to eat or potty break or get a short ride in b4 your time. The biggest difference between getting a new ticket on your way vs after you ride is that its one more person for the Que to handle. That means other people's wait times will be back up just slightly. If more and more do this, then you have a big snafu. So thats why I feel it is an abuse. Again just my opinion. Because people abused it that had to make changes. -

IMHO getting another fast pass ticket, while holding on to another, is abusing the system. Yes it was technically in the rules. But the window closed so you couldnt have more than one in your possession. Yet you still did. I totally agree that the idea of getting a pass then riding some other rides without a wait or eating is part of the plan. But stopping and getting a pass because your window opened while holding another pass, is a mistake. Yes thats just my opinion. But I am not going to lie, I would probably do the same thing, as yes its an abuse of the system. I totally get it. The system will keep changing. I see a problem with this is that those with hopper passes will have issues with changing parks. I also see that this limit will be the start that each hotel will have a certain number of options for fast pass upgrade (non resort stayers get 1 tier 1, value get 2, moderate get 3, etc) -

Part of me feels that the changes are done for the betterment of the park. Many admit that the old system was flawed. Many people would go around and collect fast pass tickets and then go back and use them later on (not at the right time). Because so many abused the system, changes had to be made. Limiting the number of rides you can use FP+ also does not sound like a big deal over all. Again, to avoid the abusers. I hate to say it, but to me, life is not always fair. You pay more usually you get more. My wife and I decided to stay on property at Universal for the exact reason of getting fast pass (or what ever it is called at Universal). We will probably stay on property at Disney to just get perks as well. -
Me thinks BB1 bought himself a thesaurus!

Some do live close enough. The way I understand this entire thing is, if the park goes bankrupt then the bank will take the land and it will not be tax payer land again.... Hence the reason it is being used as collateral for the loan...

Heck, I am pretty sure many in this thread who dont think the park has a great future, have even said that they will be going to the park!

Dude we get it. You want KK to make it. You believe the rest of us dont. When you get older you will see that discussions dont have to be confrontational. At the age of 20 you have not seen much of the world out side of your bubble. There are those of us who have seen more and know a bit more, or at least understand things a bit better. On this board you have former and current experts in a multitude of fields, some of those include: park employees, PR guys, marketing, park investors, media members, medical, auto, etc etc etc....

While I dont mean to disagree to just disagree.... In writing classes (Journalism, AP writing, Grad writing, etc) we reference the Purdue OWL. So according to the AP writing style (Associated Press) https://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/735/02/ But then again that is just one of the many styles one can write in...

In addition to all that has been said, Hart has done this before. He should know better. He should know the rules of marketing. Maybe he cannot afford a big commercial plug, but how much does it cost to send an email to every news outlet. Tell every news outlet that an announcement will be had at 8 pm on Friday. Invite the media or public, or host it on the website. Then make the announcement about the rides. You dont hide what you are doing you make a big deal out of it. Unless there are reasons, the announcements have been anything but loud.... Also, has their been much movement other than clearing of space?

In defense, Back to the Future stuck around for years after the last movie came out. HP at least had multiple movies that patrons grew up on. Most likely these same patrons will show these movies to their children. ET is still a ride and that movie is a few decades old. If this still has drawing power in 15-20 years, then it should be considerd a success. Plus everything is so well done, that even if you didnt know HP it is full immersion and works well.

Great points!^ I think right now its easy to compare KK and KI because KK is opening anew while KI is opening a new ride. We can compare (sort of) how each park is doing things. KI invited media members, streamed online, used social media, and had a big unveiling for Banshee. KK used social media, announced the new ride late on a Saturday (?). KI has their PR guy (the awesome Don) doing TV and radio interviews talking about the park, mentioning season passes, and the ride. KK used social media. KI has drawn interest from news groups outside the area. KK....

Documentary concerning Seaworld ("Blackfish")

That fact is ultimately makes me sad. I loved the idea that KI owned all of that land and the potential. Now I feel that some of that future potential is gone. The lake is what I enjoyed most about CP. When I was at CP it was nice but to me no different than any other amusement park. The lake made it stand out from the rest.

Documentary concerning Seaworld ("Blackfish")
shark6495 replied to Tanna's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Yea I am surprised there is not more of a good will campaign going on nationally right now by Sea World. The documentary is well done and can be considered darning to a degree. If I was in charge of Sea World marketing (and I was not a marketing person, I am only familiar with TV/Radio and work in special ed, so I may not know all of the little things that make marketing work) I would be filling the air with good will ads. Showing what good things Sea World has done (animal rehab). I would follow this up with a large announcement about wanting to create an endowment to offer yearly scholarships to high school students who want to become a marine biologist (wanting to create an endowment where private sector and individuals can donate). This endowment could also be used instead for rescuing animals from questionable marine parks world wide. I would then have my CEO or another higher-up talking to the morning shows at the San Diego or Orlando parks. Talking about how its not safe for these animals just to be released to the wild (since they dont have the skills and the wild pods would attack them). Admitting that in the 60s/70s the way they culled animals was wrong but now Sea World purchases orcas from these other parks. Maybe have Matt Lauer pet one of the Orcas. I would follow this all up with a massive campaign where we try to capture the attention of the young children and get them to come to visit a Sea World. Maybe produce a 60 minute special that can be watched online or on Netflix. This of course would have all followed the initial response would have been the CEO reading a prepared statement (similar to the one posted on their website) with the Orca pool behind him. Not to mention, having the twitter accounts active again for the park would be a good start. EDIT I just went to the Sea World Website. now they have a site up http://www.seaworld.com/truth Links about a few questions I had on the social structures. http://seaworld.com/en/truth/killer-whales/family/ TBH its nice to see this website up but my upper suggestions still would make sense. -

I really hope to believe that one day we would be able to find a way to make a viewing habitat for sea animals as big as whales and sharks to be more realistic than what we currently have. -

If you don't defend your name it will become common place... At one time Zipper, Aspirin, and Escalator were all trademarked.... http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/british/google http://www.outsidethebeltway.com/google-doesnt-want-people-using-google-as-a-verb/ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Documentary concerning Seaworld ("Blackfish")

I didn't find myself wanting to go more or less. I found myself actually Googling the number of Orca vs People incidents. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killer_whale_attacks_on_humans But I can see how the video of the beautiful animals could make people want to go to the park more often. But I wont lie. I forgot about SW until this documentary was released. So I guess in a way it did -
Documentary concerning Seaworld ("Blackfish")
shark6495 replied to Tanna's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sorry for the double post... Decided to finally sit down and watch this documentary. I am about 30 minutes into it. Initial thoughts: This is a well done documentary, even if you dont like the message. Not sure if I feel its anti-Sea World or just saying its informative... at this point.... Currently, they just spoke about Tillicum's incident at Sea Land... I'll just edit this as I go.... The documentary does raise a few questions that I wish Sea World would have answered for example: separation and mixing of family pods? purchase of aggressive whales? Tilicum being used as a breeding whale even if he had a history of aggression? I really get the feel that the trainers love these whales. No doubt about it. However, they have a few questions about the way the company goes about their business..,. The more I watch this, the more upset I am that Sea World answered this documentary with a press release on their website. I dont feel that this documentary is ever saying that Sea World is all bad. But it does raise some basic questions about park safety and whale usage... These questions are fair to bring up, but they could have totally been answered by a quick and good response by Sea World... Sure Ill have more to say as the last 30 minutes show up... EDITED AGAIN: Here is my amateur thought (I am not a whale expert nor am I a trainer, but I do know human tendencies), if these animals rake or bite each other when they are upset, why wouldnt they do that to a trainer? This would look very aggressive because the whale is 6 tons and a human weighs 150? If I am upset with a person I would get into a fight, maybe punch or kick. If I punch or kick someone my size it doesnt look like much. However, if I were to punch or kick a little kid then it would look like an aggressive move. I think there are calculated risks everyone has at their job for an accident and a possible life threatening accident. Should humans be in a pool with whales doing tricks? Maybe not. Should Sea World go away? Probably not. SW does do good things for the mammal world. As we learn more about these animals the way we do things now will look barbaric. Just like the video from the 70s of the trainer in a bikini riding a whale looks silly. Orcas do get bored. No Doubt. But you cant just take these whales and release them. But how cool would it be to visit a Sea World park that has a huge open water pen. You can view Orcas there. That would be cool. Zoos have done similar changes. Look at the reptile building at the Cincy Zoo. It was the former Ape house. We learn and change as a society. I do think the over all tone of the film is anti-captivity. But it is well done. I didnt walk away hating SW. I do have some questions I want to see SW answer. But will this keep me out of the park? I cant say it would. I plan on going to Orlando in 2015 and would like to visit SW when I am there. It would be nice for SW to answer a few questions raised by the film though... EDITED: Thanks terp... but I think I only had one incidence of non-cap SW or Sea World -

The thing that upsets me the most about this documentary is the public's outcry over it. There are documentaries out there that talk about how the oil companies and big automotive companies are actively buying patents for fast charging electric cars that are comparable to the Camaro and it does not get this same out cry. There are documentaries describing the poor living conditions and the unfairness of the poor/rich in our society and not many speak out. You have politicians who are actively being supported by companies who influence business and the documentaries that show this are ignored. Not to mention the many many documentaries describing poor conditions in other countries. Whats worse is the main media news does not devote time to these stories but instead broadcasts this documentary on prime time and then invites specialists to debate this topic. If you ask people what is important in the news right now odds are most will mention the devil baby prank, the "whale that kills people at Sea World," and Target Data breach.... no mention on the continuing unsureness of the middle east, the every present problem that we have a Gross National Debt equal to about 70% of our income, or the fact that politicians are working to divide us versus bring us together.... /rant.... -

A McDonald's value meal on average is 6$ plus a $1 ice cream/cookie pie Wendy's and Hardee's are about the same. Dollar menu would be even cheaper. Of course price goes up with even bigger meals. Heck at Chick Fil-a you can get a combo for 6$ and deserts are about 1.5-3$ Most fast food is cheap. I was thinking Wendy's value meal btw Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
