KICentral And Coaster Crew To Partner In 2014
malem replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
The main Coaster Crew signup page has a two year membership option. Could this be added to the KICentral page as well? -
^ It's because LoraX pasted formatted text in post #36 with a bunch of unclosed <font> tags. IPB tries to automatically close such tags, but the relevant code doesn't work when tags are nested too deeply. LoraX needs to edit her post.

^^ We should try to meet up once more this off-season, whether it's this particular weekend or not. (It definitely needs to be before Devan leaves, in any case.) Those potentially interested in Jan 25/26: Fire-Beast-OF FEAR, thedevariouseffect, jcgoble3, myklhicks, ohiocolts, BB1, silver2005, LoraX, malem Anyone else? Should we try to keep this date (now with very short notice), or shoot for a weekend in February? Who would not be willing to drive (or carpool) to the Air Force museum (45mi north of I-275) if that is the chosen activity?

It works with the mobile theme, but the links are missing from the desktop themes - as Jonathan mentioned. The browser used doesn't seem to matter.

There is a Banshee blog: https://www.visitkingsisland.com/Banshee/the-evidence/wail-of-the-Banshee-blog?cat=Banshee (Admittedly, it's well-hidden on the site. I only found it because I had subscribed to the "KI photo of the day" RSS feed last season.) Not every park has to do exactly what CP does; a certain chairman/CEO has left the company. I echo the thanks for all the pictures, webcams and timely construction details; it has been really neat watching this project take shape.

It seems to be specific to certain e-mail provider(s). I'm getting notifications after changing my e-mail address from a Yahoo mailbox to a Gmail mailbox. A quick check doesn't show the server's IP on any major spam blocklist, so it might be only Yahoo. The bounce error messages should state why the messages are being rejected, assuming that's what is happening.
-
^ I haven't received any notification e-mails since the server changed.
-
A better question: If the site administrator receives a letter from a law firm related to your post, do you want your personal information (e-mail address, IP address, etc) shared with the sender? That way, you can get your own papers in the mail. Each person is responsible for his/her own actions online. That said, any sort of action resulting from message board users not knowing how to capitalize proper nouns is exceedingly unlikely.

If we did the Air Force museum as a group, perhaps people could carpool from Cincinnati/Mason (and Indy) to cut down on driving. A personal tour there is an opportunity that KIC won't have for a long time. (There's a Golden Corral nearby, according to Google maps, so ohiocolts should be happy.) If we want to stay closer to the park, we might want to (again) consider EnterTrainment Junction. They have a "buy-one-get-one" offer in January, making the price $8 per person for an all-inclusive ticket. The miniature Coney Island recreation there really looks impressive, and playing in a funhouse is probably something that this group would enjoy.
-
I'll probably be there if we do something that will last most (or all) of the day. To refresh everyone's minds, rejected Holiday Party ideas included go-karting, EnterTrainment Junction, a FEC including laser tag and indoor trampoline bouncing, bowling, NMUSAF, and ice skating. I also like Duncan's idea of going downtown for a hockey game, though I'm usually not much a spectator sports person. For those talking about GWL, it's rather expensive that weekend. The best promo rates, available through tomorrow, would be ~$60/person for Friday night:

^^ The TTL was set to 600 seconds, so your server should have dropped that old entry long ago. What does nslookup or dig say the TTL is if you query the local server? (In Windows, use the nslookup command with the -debug option) Also, which DNS server software are you using?
-
The DNS server didn't change, so downtime should have been limited to 10 minutes. Lucas should restart mobile Safari and/or his iOS device. If his dad is running a DNS cache on his home network, he should reset that. (Simply restarting the router might fix the latter problem, depending on the setup.) Some poorly written DNS implementations ignore or replace the "TTL" value, meaning that outdated server information is stored much longer than it should be. Everything seems to be working except for e-mail notifications, which I haven't received any of for the past couple days.
-
^ And you, too, whenever you get back to Ohio.
-
A TTL of ten minutes seems to have propagated, so downtime after the change should be minimal this time as long as the original authoritative DNS servers (dns.site5.com and dns2.site5.com) are updated. If those servers change, and the old ones can't be updated with the record for the new server, the downtime could again be as high as 48 hours for some people.

With modern analytics and proper accounting, it's not so easy to hide. Loss prevention professionals know all facets and tricks. Of course, not everyone gets caught on their first offense. Some get away with thievery many times before they see a courtroom, where they'll inevitably tell the judge that it was their "first" crime ever committed. Theft is an addictive behavior, and the odds of getting caught increase exponentially as a thief leaves a longer trail of evidence. Some businesses will even let a thief continue, so as to obtain more evidence to hand to the prosecuting attorney.
-
^ The press release says that this vendor works with the park's own loss prevention team. It will still be KI's own employees looking at evidence and investigating potential theft/fraud. It's sad that so many people attempt to steal from their employer, usually being dumb enough to think that they'll get away with it.

Loose fitting shoes will make for at least some loose articles in Banshee's station. I would be very surprised if souvenir cups were banned as at Firehawk; such a policy would irritate a lot of guests.
-
I would guess that Cedar Fair got a discount in exchange for this PR piece about the vendor. Most companies don't like to talk publicly about their loss prevention strategies. Automated systems like this are a good idea; potentially dishonest employees are a lot less likely to steal if they know they'll be caught quickly.

Music is an important part of merchandising. The park presumably wants to include songs that make the current generation happy - that they sing along with. This means including modern pop. Happy guests make more impulsive purchase and are more likely to return. Most of the current soundtrack is fine - there's a rather wide variety from different genres and eras. I just wish that they'd play classical music on International Street, turn down the speakers in Coney Mall, and cull pop songs with depressing lyrics from the playlist. Pop music and the Royal Fountains really don't mix well. This creates a rather jarring theme, and the acoustics of that area don't work well at all with pop.

Gold Passes Sell Out Date? Water Park Opening Date?
malem replied to Rachaelnoel76's topic in Kings Island
In past seasons, Soak City has operated from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day. According to an archived page from visitkingsisland.com, the hours were 11:00am-8:00pm most days in 2013, with an abbreviated schedule in the early and late season. The operating schedule for 2014 has yet to be released. If you decide to keep your passes, make sure to check out the live entertainment offerings in addition to the waterpark. Ed Alonzo's magic show was very entertaining the past two seasons, and there will doubtless be great offerings again this upcoming season. If you are considering any of the rides (including at Soak City), read the "guest assistance guide" for a full description of each attraction along with height and safety requirements: https://www.visitkingsisland.com/images/uploads/file/2013%20Guest%20Assistance%20Guide(1).pdf (large PDF file) EDIT: fixed the link; IPB doesn't like non-urlencoded parenthesis. -
Cedar Point 2014 Schedule
malem replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
The fall Sunday hours have been extended from 2013; the park will open at 11am instead of 12pm those days. (Hours for the day before Columbus Day are 11am-12am, changed from 10am-10pm in 2013.) Additionally, 10pm closings continue one additional week in August, with abbreviated hours only during the last week of the month. Hours for that last week were changed to 10am-8pm (from 11am-9pm in 2013). -
We should all meet up here in Columbus, where there are no sports blackouts!

Some do that to buy liquor not stocked at state-controlled liquor stores, to purchase "out-of-state" fireworks, or for cheaper cigarette taxes. Notice what types of businesses exist next to the border. (You're too young to do any of those things, though. ) Here's something you can visit next time: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/22418 (The reason: remind everyone what's being wasted!)

Frisch's Big Boy Switching to Pepsi
malem replied to Oldiesmann's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Companies must defend their exclusive right to any trademark, or they risk losing that right. Some trademarks, like Coke, are at risk of genericization. If the "Coke" trademark is declared generic, The Coca-Cola Company might (for example) lose the right to stop businesses from referring to drinks other than Coke as "a Coke". That said, a site like this with user-generated discussion is exceedingly unlikely to receive trademark litigation resulting from a few users who don't know how to use proper nouns. Generally speaking, each user is responsible for his/her own content, and postings here are non-commercial in nature. If a company felt that user(s) here were harming its trademark interests, the likely outcome would be that Dane would receive a letter asking him to moderate such misuse. Regardless, it is important to use trademarks properly. Not doing so is incorrect English, results in needless confusion, and creates possible legal exposure (as Terp keeps noting). Misusing trademarks here could cause tension between this site and its partners - mainly Kings Island and various advertisers. The Coca-Cola Company is a primary sponsor of the former.
