  1. But the parks' CEO clearly does. I thought Carowinds was the park that's been doing the bee (hornet, actually) adding.
  2. Just a reminder that wait time depends on capacity as much as it does on popularity. The Bat was the 9th most-ridden ride at Kings Island in 2014.
  3. 1. Guests under 2 don't require a ticket/pass; they're admitted along with their accompanying adult(s). I don't think the preview night would be an exception to this policy, but you could call the park if you want confirmation. 2. The preview night was offered as a benefit for fall renewals only. New passholders in the fall got one free 2014 admission as their "perk".
  4. Welcome! If your Kings Island gold or Cedar Fair platinum pass was renewed (i.e. you had a 2014 pass and renewed it online or at a Cedar Fair park) on/before November 6, you are eligible for the preview night this Friday. Your pass might not scan if it's from another Cedar Fair park, but Guest Services can let you in after verifying your on-time renewal. Crowd size is difficult to anticipate. The park is likely to be busy if the current forecast of mid 60s under sunny skies holds. If lines for major attractions like The Beast and Diamondback are long, try rides that might be have shorter wait times. Adventure Express, Vortex and even Banshee are good things to ride even on crowded days. Also, the park is spelled "Kings Island" with no apostrophe; people are quite picky about that here. (Even the Cincinnati Enquirer gets that wrong, so don't feel too bad. )
  5. To their credit, the 2015 dining plan menus are quite extensive.
  6. Steel coaster track is hard to move and hard to store, so this would be a little early for anything going up in a North American seasonal park (with a probable ~2016Q2 opening).
  7. ^ If you're not afraid of the command line, install imagemagick and use mogrify. mkdir small mogrify -resize 1024x768 -path small *.jpg That's it. All .jpg files in the current directory are resized to 1024x768 and saved into a "small" subdirectory.
  8. I believe I was required to be in a group of 2+ when I went on a school trip to Cedar Point. I had to choose from "Let's get in line for Raptor first thing in the morning", "Let's wait 3 hours for Millennium Force", and "Let's not ride much at all".
  9. If this is your only trip, and you want to experience rides like Banshee and The Beast at night, you may want to pick a date when the park closes at 10:00pm.
  10. ^ Yeah, I should have checked the actual claimed market areas before making that post. Terp often says to watch what they do, not what they say. Nothing to scoff at, but compare to the markets of the other parks. Much of Canada's total population, the Washington/Baltimore metro area, Chicago+all of Ohio+all of Michigan+northern Indiana+half of Pennsylvania. With Carowinds, the population of its market area growing and they have the potential to expand its geographical reach. Though the overlap with Cedar Point is my biggest reason for doubting a giga at Kings Island.
  11. ^ Check the filter bar above the topic list. By default, it only shows topics updated in the past 90 days. For that forum, only one topic meets that criteria.
  12. In the past, renewal benefits (if any) were available when renewing from either gold or platinum to either gold or platinum. Renewing from a regular/silver pass to either gold or platinum, however, was considered to be a new pass purchase. At Kings Island, regular season passes aren't valid after Labor Day.
  13. ^ They do offer ERT on Opening Day. Crowds will likely start to arrive as soon as the parking lot opens to the public. Generally, that is one hour before gates open for ERT.
  14. Even though it should be obvious, just a friendly reminder for park employees and others privileged with early access: don't post any "inside" information that's not available to the general public without authorization. Check your employer's policies. Those who have been here awhile might recall an extended discussion concerning the Action Zone "circle".
  15. ^^^ For what it's worth, I'm reading (for total market area): CP=26 KD=19 KI=15 Caro=14 CW=9
  16. I'm not sure why so many people think that KI needs or will get a giga. No North American park has installed them outside of Cedar Fair. The parks receiving them have market areas that are more populous than Kings Island's. Not to mention, part of Kings Island's market intersects Cedar Point's, a park famous for "building them bigger". Bigger isn't always better.
  17. https://www.cedarpoint.com/images/uploads/file/2014_guest_assistance_guide.pdf (7MB PDF warning) They're a 3. Or at least were as of last season.
  18. ^ In previous seasons, that promotion has happened on May 1. They have sold out quickly, as ticket scalpers have redeemed as many as possible in an attempt to sell them for cash.
  19. Just a reminder, they open this Friday. KI passholders can currently save 15% by visiting the passholder portal: https://www.visitkingsisland.com/passholder/index.cfm?login=1
  20. Really? I mean, they ran backwards for how many years? It's pretty unlikely they ran backwards that long and nobody from the manufacturer said anything. Or were there new trains purchased and that is what caused the change? Sorry, that post may have been confusing and/or inaccurate. After 26 seasons with one side operated backwards, Kings Island decided to return the ride to its original configuration. According to the park, the decision was based on ridership and guest feedback. At the time, it's my understanding that the manufacturer of the trains recommended forward-facing operation. However, I checked, and they do currently list the backward side of American Eagle at SFGAm on their official website. The park has stated that they were not forced to make the change and could have continued operating one side of The Racer backward had they wanted to.
  21. ^^ 1. There shouldn't be any problem with someone under 48" entering with an adult pass. Some have obtained adult passes for their kids early, if they expect them to surpass 48" during the season. EDIT: If you are referring to measuring for ride wristbands, this is completely separate from checking height at park admission. There is no guarantee that a guest will "measure up" just because they have a 48"+ season pass. If procedures from previous seasons are followed, someone very close to the 48" mark shouldn't have a problem entering with either type of pass. 2. In previous seasons, any fee charged was the difference in price from when you purchased the pass. If you purchased your gold pass in the fall, there is no difference in price.
  22. Kings Island made the decision to run both trains forwards after the manufacturer of the trains advised against running them backwards.
  23. I certainly hope that no one uses the same credentials for KIC that they do for their e-mail or bank account.
  24. ^ Each person attending needs to register for the event, have a valid event ticket, and have an active membership card for the club/organization selected.
