^ At Cedar Point, platinum passes include parking. Regular season passes do not, and there is no way to add season parking to a regular pass (without upgrading it to platinum).
-
On cedarpoint.com: A platinum pass may be a great value, but a $198 pass doesn't pay for itself in less than 2 visits at a park with $62 admission and $15 parking.

Perhaps this is in part a way to demonstrate advantages of consolidation, in case BGW ends up on the market. In that event, they'd presumably want FUN as a suitor.

I saw a few new ones. An example: Which one of these rides did not give >2M rides in its debut year: Diamondback, Vortex, Adventure Express, or Banshee?

Could KI (and other Cedar Fair properties) finally be getting WiFi?
malem replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
^^ If your access point doesn't broadcast the SSID, your devices must send it out wherever they are in order to search for the network. As for irresponsible SSID choices, "FBI" is far, far down on the list of what I've come across. -
^ That hasn't been discussed here as far as I'm aware. I noticed some work in that area on Friday, but I didn't pay close attention. A good question for someone to ask at the Coasterstock Beast walkback, perhaps. Also, welcome back.

Kennywood: Large Fight
malem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I considered registering for yesterday's GOCC event at Kennywood, but I decided that I'd rather visit later in the season. It's good to see that this didn't end worse than it did. -
Abandoned plates were not resold. They were covered with an empty plate and placed on a counter to await disposal.

For those dining at the Reds Grille with the meal plan, note that the meal redemption time is apparently set at the end of the meal when the check is paid. ohiocolts found this out last night when his second meal at LaRosa's didn't work; the 4-hour counter seemed to have started after the 25-minute delay we had to split the check, even though our season passes were scanned at the beginning of our meal. There were about 10 other abandoned pizza plates waiting to be thrown away from other customers who had the same problem. (If you're going there with a group, and anyone in the group is using a dining plan, I suggest bringing cash to avoid having to split the check.)

Diamondback up to a 5-10 minute wait.
-
Many rides are walk ons, including Beast and Diamondback.
-
The deadline to register and to purchase tickets is tonight at midnight! Don't wait until 11:30pm though, lest you risk missing the deadline (and the event) due to a technical or payment problem.

Dorney Park?
-
If you want to avoid long waits, I would recommend getting to Diamondback during gold/platinum pass early rides, then Flight of Fear & Firehawk as soon as the park opens. (Diamondback is a popular ride that attracts long lines on crowded days, and Flight of Fear & Firehawk have relatively low rider capacities.) Also, make sure to do some riding after dark. (The Beast at a minimum, Banshee, Diamondback, Vortex and/or Adventure Express if there is time.)

^^^ Revoking your pass (or anyone else's pass) for posting an online review would be a very bad idea. This would be the sort of thing that obnoxious consumer affairs reporters on 11pm local newscasts take an interest in.

The 9 best coasters near Detroit
malem replied to rlentless's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Passports become much more expensive if you need to obtain one in short order. -
I do wonder if it was profiling (eg. single full-price ticket) or if Terp was actually black booked. Sadly, neither would surprise me.
-
Why would they charge him if they had no intention of letting him inside? Chargebacks are expensive.

^ For land or sea crossings, an enhanced driver license from a participating state/province works as well. -
You and Jonathan Goble would get along well.

Cedar Point Opening Day 2015
malem replied to skinneric's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I haven't been there for Opening Day; I typically go on a weekday early in the season. This year, I'll probably visit that first Monday (May 11). Note that Math & Science Week is again scheduled for this first week of operation. For what it's worth, wait times were minimal when I went early in that week last year. As always, crowds any day are difficult to predict. Some weekends are dead, and some weekdays are packed for seemingly no reason. The weather forecast can affect crowds drastically. Your results may vary. -
I'm not there, but quite a few KIC people are. Having too much fun to check the wait times thread, apparently.

An interesting article in today's Columbus Dispatch about Ohio's Raising Cane's franchisee: http://www.dispatch.com/content/stories/business/2015/04/26/wittenberg-graduates-raising-canes-franchise-in-ohio-learns-to-fly.html

Just so it's clear: there were no fires, news reports from WCPO notwithstanding. In one incident, a motor near the launch area was found emitting smoke. Power to the motor was cut, repairs were made, and the ride reopened a few days later. A second incident involved smoke coming from an electrical panel outside the ride. In both instances, the area was evacuated to ensure safety.

Last season, a member of Flight of Fear's crew would announce "drop" when they received the signal from Drop Tower. The lift power for Drop Tower is more than what's required for a "standard" elevator, as the ride vehicle must be lifted past the magnetic brakes. That and a 2MW launch (along with the lesser loads in the area) are apparently too much for the electrical system supplying that portion of the park. For at least part of last season, Flight of Fear was also delaying the launch upon a signal from Backlot Stunt Coaster. Evidently to ensure that both wouldn't launch simultaneously.
