  1. Consumers are recording straight to digital memory of some type. Most ENG(Electronic News Gathering) equipment that TV stations use still record to digital video tape. Then they digitize it to memory, although that is slowly changing as stations upgrade their gear. I guess the right term to use would be "Videoing" to cover any image recorded electronically. The only way anyone is "filming" is if the camera has a shutter behind the lens that opens and closes, exposing film negative to light. I'm really trying to get over it, thanks for the support.
  2. Thank you Dieseltech20.... I'll try to stop twitching now. I don't know why it get's to me, but whenever I see someone using a video camera and hear that they're "filming", it just drives me nuts. I scream (only in my warped little mind of course) "No your not filming, your VIDEOTAPING!!! I really need to try to get over it, I know.
  3. Absolutely nothing personal aimed at any posters here, but I've got to clear up a pet peeve of mine. The use of the term "film crew". I spent 14 years traveling the country working as a camera technician on "film" crews. They consist of multiple trucks, carts full of various equipment, anywhere from 10 to 100+ people scurrying around getting locations or gear ready. Large film cameras with "Panavision", "Aaton" or "Arriflex" written on them mounted on large tripods, dollies, or cranes. Multiple lights or reflectors scattered around a set. Angry people stomping around cussing on cell phones, and chain smoking. Massive bikers hippies, or exfootball players talking in weird code. I actually heard these statements: "Hit this guy in the back of the head with the hard side of the bounce board" and "screw a stud plate in the wall and slap a baby on it". A VIDEO crew usually consists of 1 overly stressed person with a video camera and small tripod, a location rep, grip, and director/producer and (if the camera guy is lucky) a sound mixer. Working out of one van with a station logo on it. Shooting digital video tape or some form of digital video data is a far cry from shooting film. Thank you for allowing my rant. I'm getting off my soapbox now.
  4. Avatar, if technically possible, you all should add a "like button" for posts. The thing is this ride op, as with many others, seem to know when to be genuinely funny (as in your case) because the guests are just having fun and in my case, when the guest is annoyingly trying to show off at the expense of the ride-op. You were trying to laugh WITH the ride-op(which I do regularly), this unpleasant person was trying to get others to laugh AT the ride-op. It's a big difference.
  5. On a flat ride like this, when they post the "ride cycle" as 3 minutes, does that mean from when it starts to move until it stops? If that's the case it seems like not a lot of time will be spent spinning up top.
  6. When will guys trying to impress girls learn not to mess with the ride ops? These employees are there for hours on end dealing with genuine problems and guys who think they're going to get a zinger or smart comment past one of them. "Sunday, a twenty something guy with his date, guy friend, and guy friend's date were entering DB's line. There were quite a few people around and a long time ride op holding the height pipe. This show off stops the flow of people to the entrance and sarcastically says to the ride op, " Am I tall enough?" The ride op even more sarcastically says, "Barely" His group and a number of people around him laughed at the ride op's comeback. The guy just ducked his head and went quickly forward. A little later the same ride op was asked by someone trying to look cool for his friends how many trains are they going to run. The ride op somewhat sarcastically replied: "We decided to run all 3 trains today" They're there all day, and clearly have repeatedly used much better zingers than anything a guy on a date could come up with.
  7. If you don't want to mess with parking, there's a Dollywood shuttle behind the Old Mill Restaurant. Last time I went it was $1, well worth it to avoid the traffic. Traffic light 7 at Old Mill Ave. Have Fun!
  8. Thank you for the education. Once again GYK, your knowledge of KI is very impressive! So I have another question for you, When will WindSeeker open?
  9. Not meaning to get off-topic(just trying to continue my education) but if KI's Drop Tower is taller, how can KD's Drop Tower have a longer drop if it's not the brakes?
  10. I didn't know both claimed to be the tallest. I saw this over at Wikipedia: Kings Island's tower is the tallest in the world. While Kings Dominion's tower isn't taller, the brakes start farther down, therefore providing a longer drop than Kings Island's. Let's get into a "tallest WS" competition with the other parks, we could compare how far above sea level each city a WS is in and claim the tallest based on that.
  11. So if you think the swings are about 280'? Why would Mr Sheids misquote the height of the riders experience by 20'? We've seen how anal people can get over a few feet, especially, as you mentioned, with the 300' barrier. I'm excited about the attention as well, and I'm not trolling. I just got to thinking about it. Is Drop Tower measured from the lightning rod tip of the structure? How far is the Drop Tower seats to the ground? It's got to be at least a 20' difference as well.
  12. While we wait for the testing to begin, I've got a question for anyone whose knowledge far surpasses mine regarding this vertical swingy thing: Claimed WS height: 301 feet. Mr. Sheid says: (copied from KI's site) Kings Island vice-president and general manager Greg Scheid said. "Soaring 300 feet above Kings Island will provide an exciting ride experience for our guests." Is the top of the tower 301 feet, or are the swing seats 301 feet? If the top of the tower is 301 feet, then the swing seats are well below 300 feet, and if the swing seats are 300 feet, then the tower is well over 301 feet. Just sayin' is all
  13. No bashing, They clearly feel some modifications are needed before the ride is safe enough to operate. Remember, til now these things only existed on a computer. As others have said, there's no way WS will open for daily operation until all people who's job it is to make sure WS is safe are completely satisfied.
  14. I went by WS yesterday, it looks like the mounting brackets for the hydraulic "motion limiters" (please feel free to educate me on what the official term should be) are all in place, but no actual "limiters" were in place.
  15. Dude, how many places are you gonna post this?: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23885
  16. I once dreamed it was a hot Tuesday morning, and after a busy, steamy Memorial day weekend at KI, I was sitting down and having a cup of coffee, checking out KICentral's forums. There was a topic titled "Weird dream I had", and I had this uncontrollable need to reply with a snarky post...........Oh wait......Nevermind!
  17. I have no idea why this works for me on Beast but it does: We ride in the front seat of different cars. We prefer a view of the woods instead of the back of heads. I cross my legs at my shins( I think that helps with the curve of the lap bar), hold the cushion across the front and lean forward. It really makes the ride smoother no matter what car we ride in. Also works on Racer, and used to on SOB, which is where I first learned this from another rider. "Hands Up" on an airtime steel coaster is fun, "Hands Up" on a classic woodie or an old school steel with OTSR's is PAINFUL!!
  18. I have a simple answer to help with a rough ride..Lean Forward. Trust me, it helps.
  19. That's really sad...If it helps, it was VERY crowded.
  20. Versus a fake one? I had to go there.
  21. Your clearly not aware of math and science fridays!!! Hoping tomorrow isn't one of them.
  22. I was wrong about the last weekend for DB/Beast ERT. I just spoke with Customer Service and good news for some (my wife and I being 2 of those some) and bad news for the WindSeeker/Vortex seekers: DB/Beast will be the 2 rides open for ERT all the way through Memorial Day! Woo Hoo! If you see any military personnel there, give them an appreciative smile, head nod or thank you. Regardless of your politics, think about what they do for us. I may ride all coasters with no fear, but I'm not brave like they are. I have complete respect for all the men and women who put their lives on the line to defend our country.
  23. More power to anything that gets people to a park so they can have a good time.
  24. I thought we couldn't link to external sites that were advertising things for profit. Is this a T.O.S. violation? I'm not trying to be the site police, I'm just curious.
