The Amusement Park Railroad Thread
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Here's the old KIMVRR route from King Island History's Facebook page Notice there's no covering over the tracks where the coaches are stored. Also note the slight curve after the storage tracks that would be later straightened. Finally, and probably the most obvious, notice the original loop to the left. Today the current loop would be where the houses are and the slides within the lazy river would be where the old loop was. -
I think we have a 1/2% grade. Also I believe they added covers to the pistons to try and hold as much steam as possible https://www.themeparkarchive.com/parks/kings-island/k.i.-&-miami-valley-railroad

Do walk-through attractions do anything for you?
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in KI Polls
Double post I want to maybe expand more on this fun house idea @KIghostguy brought up. Is there a reason why we don't see a lot of them anymore? My guess is liability- people getting hurt walking though a hall of mirrors, moving floors, etc. -
Are Dark Rides Worth the Investment?

Maybe have one continuing off of the Mystic Timbers story -
Move One Ride from Anywhere in the Country to KI

I think the current business plan is diversification. Not all parks have the same things to make other parks worth visiting. I feel like having a Six Flags platinum pass would get old -

Most of us got WindSeekers in 2011 -
All I can say is this- without Diamondback we'd never have Orion. I'd argue Diamondback is the most appreciated hyper out of the 3 Cedar Fair installed from 2008-2010. I don't know, I just don't see enthusiasts give Intimidator or Behemoth the same amount of love that they give Diamondback- even before Leviathan, Fury 325, and Orion came along.

If it goes to Rivertown have it replace the box If it goes to Oktoberfest it could be cool to see Slingshot be relocated somewhere else in the park and the Screamin' Swing go there but that seems less likely

The grade begins around where Mystic Timbers's tunnel/turn around is closer to the back of the engine house. If you ever ride it, you'll start to hear the engines begin to accelerate. If you skip to 1:34 you can hear the engine start to accelerate as it approaches the curve In this video skip to 1:49 and you can see the engineer opening up the throttle and hearing the engine work up the hill

Cedar Point's Next Coaster?
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Which is why I think they favored GCI for some reason. Maybe at the time GCIs seemed more affordable? They produced 4 of them for us since 2007 after all. You'd see them at Valleyfair, Worlds of Fun and CGA which are mid and lower tier parks. Kings Island was the first big CF park to get one. What's super strange to me is that Dorney is speculated to get a GG shuttle when GCI is headquartered nearby. You'd think Dorney would've gotten a GCI. I still have a strange feeling we'll get a GG like Oscar's Wacky Taxi for Planet Snoopy for some reason. Back to Cedar Point, a Gravity Group would be cool but I think the chain's relationship with GCI is too strong. The only way I could see CP getting a GG would be to differentiate themselves more from KI. -
Its funny that they didn't since KI was set up like a Disney Park with its layout yet our trains don't lap around the park. KI was relatively smaller compared to where it is today so maybe they didn't think having the train go around the whole park was worth it.

Cedar Point's Next Coaster?
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
If I recall, CF has only worked with GG on retracks. The Dorney project will be their 1st time working with them. I thought there was a specific reason why CF has been working solely with GCI over GG but I can't remember why. -
Closure of Dinosaurs Alive and opening of lots of land.

I don't see one in our distant future to be honest. The enthusiast in me wants me to be wrong but it wouldn't make sense. We don't need one to be quite honest. Racer or The Beast need to be left to GCI to maintain. As for a ground up model, I don't see us getting one. I could go in more depth but I just don't see it with where the park is currently at. Maybe next decade might be more realistic with older coasters biting the dust but even then I just see us getting more B&Ms. If this was a perfect world I'd want something lower to the ground like Untamed. If we ever got an RMC, I think it would be something like that. -

Someone made a pretty good concept of a Cedar Point GCI -

I wouldn't mind a clone if it's unique. For example I wouldn't mind a Premier Sky Rocket II as they're kinda like the Vekoma Boomerangs of today- albeit way better. Just heavily theme it and I'll endorse it. -

I think they'd have to get permission from KI to drive down the stretch of road by the dorms since its their property which it where I feel the partnership would come in. I think if guests at the campground wanted to spend the extra money to park in the lot and not wait on a shuttle that's completely fine. I think its all about convenience. If you're a guest at the campground you'd have the option to either shuttle or drive yourself. Maybe the campground could factor in an additional $10 to each nightly stay. For example, a site would have an actual nightly rate of say $60 but they actually charge $70 to cover the cost to operate the "complimentary" shuttle. Maybe with that money they could pay KI to allow a shuttle on their stretch of Columbia Road.
-
That's my argument. If I'm shuttling in a 6 person family, I'll sacrifice the $20 parking fee.
-
Going back to the shuttle convo, I just realized Columbia Road goes right by where that huge campground is being built Maybe they could work out a partnership with the campground to shuttle their guests back and forth

A question every enthusiast asks, what'll be Cedar Point's next coaster? While I personally think the park needs to focus on other things such as infrastructure, a new roller coaster will always be the topic of conversation. The park has always been creative with their roller coaster placements and fitting them in tight spots only removing less popular thrill rides. The last time a coaster was sacrificed for another was Disaster Transport back in 2012. With that in mind, I personally don't see Cedar Point adding a new coaster without removing one. What coaster would be up for debate. Maybe they could work something out but they've been tight recently. Some speculations I've heard from fans are a GCI either replacing Wicked Twister as a boardwalk like Cyclone at Coney Island. I've also heard fans say a GCI could replace Cedar Creek Mine Ride. I've seen concepts for a B&M Flyer over Adventure Island as well. I've also heard talks of an RMC T-Rex and a S&S Axis coaster. What are your guy's most rational thoughts?

What Else Do You Want To Come Back?
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Coming Attractions
To be fair, I never saw Adventure Time as a Nickelodeon show. If it was, it wouldn't be the same in my opinion. Adventure Time appealed to a demographic that I don't think Nickelodeon was trying to target. I think it fit better in with Cartoon Network to be honest.
