  1. All I can say is I remember seeing the dump trucks move the dirt from the construction areas to this field on the webcams. A bulldozer was used to smooth it out so that it would not be left in a large mound. This disturbed a huge area which is what I think you are seeing.
  2. You must not go to many fairs because deep fried junk food has become a standard item. Deep fried Twinkies, Oreos, Snickers, even a stick of butter. Typically they are made by freezing the item, putting it on a wood stick, covering it in batter, and frying it to a golden brown.
  3. The park built the foundation for the new restaurant in the water park which did require excavation. Mystic Timbers is built above White Water Canyon which required filling sections of the ride with dirt for construction equipment which was removed from this field and returned at the end of construction. The park also just built a new storage building which also would have required a foundation.
  4. 2 or 3 years ago I was riding Magnum and as we were going down a hill I saw this phone just seem to float up and out of the train. Someone a few rows behind me was able to grab it out of the air and returned it to the owner who was 2 or 3 rows in front of me once the train returned to the station. What most people seem to not realize about phones and other objects dropped during a ride is that they will tend to continue in the same direction at basically the same rate of speed. So loose objects tend to not really be a danger to other people on the train. The majority of the danger is to people in other trains, on the ground, etc.
  5. You are ignoring the fact that when the trains get back to the station the reverse has to occur. On a Vekoma the weight of the people and the seats must be lifted while on the B&M they are just being lowered. From a wear perspective, I doubt either one is worse than the other. I also prefer hanging in the restraint instead of laying on my back in the brakes.
  6. This is one hundred percent personal preference. There are a number of issues with counting coasters, do clones count? Think about the number of SLC, boomerang, Skyrocket II, and other standard layout coasters. If a coaster is moved, is it counted in each location? For instance, do you count both X-Flight and Firehawk? Back to your original question when does it become two different coasters? Totally different layouts which share a station like Dragon Challange, mirrored layouts like Racer, or are two coaster tracks with basically the same layout like Gemini two different coasters? I consider Racer as a single coaster with two tracks. Which I would only count as one ride. But it is completely up to you to decide where the line is between similar coasters.
  7. No idea what has changed but in the past only your home park could replace your pass, add a dining plan, or process the renewal. If you have the ability to renew a KI pass at CP then something has changed.
  8. The cashier who told you that she could not sell you the drink plan is wrong. I am not certain if it is a training problem or if they just forgot how. But I have heard a similar story from several people, one of which proceeded to guest services who instructed them that it could only be purchased at the park by going to a location which sell beverages. The good news is that they tried another drink stand and found an employee who knew how to do it. On a side note you can add your annual pass to an Apple wallet. Which will sync to an Apple Watch allowing you to display the QR code on your watch, which I can confirm the registers will scan. So if you have an Apple Watch you can just use that instead of your phone or plastic pass.
  9. According to news reports a disabled man has fallen out of the Krater Coaster in Columbia. This article according to Google translate says the man had no legs. Which if true I have no idea why he was allowed to ride since the coaster uses a lap bar. This is supposed to be video of the event.
  10. ^ I would recommend checking out Apocalypse at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Where Six Flags proved they could ruin a GCI in less than 8 years. It has been about a year since I was on the ride but it was just painful and I think might be rougher than Mean Streak before it closed. Thankfully we have a maintenance crew which have proven they know how to take care of wood coaster track.
  11. Wood coasters get rough over time. Right now with the wood is still brand new so the ride is extremely smooth. I would compare it to Diamondback. Millennium Flyer trains will help keep it that way but it will get rougher in the future. A large part of this in the future is park maintenance as well since they need to go in, recognize and replace damaged wood.
  12. Not really, I typically prefer drinks without carbonation but just for preference reasons. I would be happy if the park served beverages like diet Sprite, or Minute Maid light lemonade. Although I still think the best option is more freestyle machines. When the park puts 40 fountain nozzles next to each other I want to see more than 8 total options, the bottleneck is scanning the barcodes anyways. Make one or two of the machines have healthy choices or just have more variety. Why not put in gold peak tea, fuze tea, one or two flavors of Fanta since there are about a half dozen, cherry Coke, one or two flavers of HI-C, etc. Obviously the park cannot put in every option but it could easily add a little more variety. All of this is easily available from the local Coke distributor and all of it is Coke products. I would love Powerade Zero but I have never seen it from a fountain before and do not believe it is available as a bag in box syrup.
  13. The freestyle machines have been removed from Hanks. I think they were moved to Jukebox diner. I expected it but I am disappointed in the lack of no/low calorie drink options on the Coke machines. It makes no sense to put almost the same drink options on 5 machines next to each other. I really just wish the park had more freestyle machines. I would love to see some Powerade zero options in the regular Coke machines but am not sure if it is even possible.
  14. There was speculation about the restraints on Drop Tower. They are the same restraints but the hard foam has been completely replaced and they have a lot more room. Last year I had to get a little help to push them down, now I can easily fit. So anyone who has had trouble before I would try again. EDIT: Just to add the ride does have at least one short seat belt. I think it was seat 33 but it is easily an inch shorter than the other seats I rode in today.
  15. The camera is on the first drop and I am pretty sure it is on the left side of the track.
  16. Here is my attempt at a spoiler free review of the shed. I think the ride is better with the shed and it is a nice way to end the ride instead of just sitting in the brakes waiting for the train in front of you to move. It seems really well thought out, and should tolerate a minute or two wait when loading hits a snag. There is a good attention to detail and it is a level of theming I am not used to seeing at a Cedar Fair park. I really want to see this continue on other attractions. But the park made too big a deal about the shed and basically it does not live up to the hype. I suspect the negative reviews of the shed are due to the park setting expectations too high.
  17. The idea is that the park is showing off the new attraction to the media. Which basically means TV, radio, newspaper, on-line reporters, etc. It is park of the marketing for the new ride. The park invites a coaster club or more than one to make the ride look better by filling the trains with enthusiastic people. For this event, the park invited members of ACE, the American Coaster Enthusiasts to come and ride Mystic Timbers.
  18. Quick review, the ride is fantastic and a great addition to the park. It is one of the best rides in the park and I could see it being considered the best ride in the park. From the first drop until the brakes it never lets up and there is very little straight track. Tons of airtime throughout the ride. The shed is a nice addition to the ride and provides a good finish. The park has a really good competitor for best new ride of the year.
  19. When I was at the park for media day I noticed that there have been some changes to the interior of the Reds Hall of Fame Grille. The wall directly in front of you when you enter is now plain red with what looks like a serving window. There were two Coke machines sitting in the window which took up most of the space. It looks like the park has made changes to how the restaurant will operate and I am not certain it will have servers.
  20. I would not say everyone but a decent number. I am busy riding and not sure how much I should say. The coaster is amazing. The shed is a fun little ending but it feels like the park spent too much time hyping it.
  21. Several Six Flags parks which have just as cold of winters including Great America outside of Chicago have been operating select coasters during Christmas events. It is very doable but can be a lot of work. Heaters under the track in the station to keep lubricants hot while the train is sitting, brake heaters to keep brakes from freezing, etc.
  22. I do not know about Dollywood's but it is not just Cedar Point which has had problems with an S&S Screamin Swing. Both Knott's and Dorney had Screamin Swings, they have both been removed and to my knowledge scrapped. Since Cedar Fair has already removed two I would be very surprised to see them purchasing more.
  23. I suspect the reason the Rivertown Potato Works was removed from the meal plan listing is due to a change in the menu. It will likely be on the meal plan but will not reappear until they finish the entire listing for this year.
  24. At Kings Island, my personal experience is that Drop Tower does have the tightest restraints. Beyond Kings Island, the one coaster which I can think of that you might still have a problem is Wicked Twister at Cedar Point. Those seat belts are just extremely short. Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great America which is the same ride and has the same restraints has a couple of extra inches on the seat belts.
  25. I doubt they have been painted. The colors are off in the picture. Just look at how dark the tower itself is.
