All of the above and more. Really, it is the entirety of the experience. I can't just pick out certain elements and say "that's what makes a good coaster," or I wouldn't be able to have a soft spot for so many of the wildly different coasters at Kings Island. There are elements I like about all of them, even the couple I'm not as fond of as the others. I think if Kings Island is looking to expand their lineup, uniqueness from their current coasters is the most important factor to me. Just being taller or faster or having more loops or whatever doesn't really impress me on its own.

I used to love spinning, but less-so after a childhood merry-go-round incident. At some point adulthood seems to have taken the thrill out of spinning even more. Zephyr was one of my favorite childhood rides, but when I rode it last summer I wanted back off, especially once the wave-like motion was added to the spinning. WindSeeker and Delirium don't bother me. The car I rode on Monster barely spun at all, so that was ok. I'm really hoping SR&R is ok, because the day I decided to ride it last summer was just after the sign went up saying it was temporarily closed (and ended up closed and eventually dismantled for the rest of the season), so I've spent a long wait wishing I could ride it. I haven't tried Scrambler recently, although I loved it as a kid (even though my older cousins and sister thought it was funny to put me on the outside of the car so they smashed me). I suspect it would be ok, because that motion always seemed less of a "spin" to me.

Or 17th, if she renewed her pass before November 6th.

Fingers crossed your team works more efficiently together than the Diamondback team often did last summer!

Yeah, I'm more excited about the fries part of the gluten free options at Potato Works, personally. Since I didn't have the dining plan last year, I didn't eat a whole lot of things in the park, but I did get some Rivertown Potato Works fries with cheese and bacon, and they were really good. I usually am more interested in the quality of french fries than entrees when I choose where to eat, so I'm hoping the ones at Coney Potato Works are as good.

From what I remember of the list, the healthiest option was a grilled chicken sandwich and fries at one location. Edit: yeah, it's at the Planet Snoopy Grill. I'm not saying it's particularly healthy, but my assessment having never tried many of the options, it's among the least unhealthy. Depending upon how they're made, the stuff at Hank's may be better for you. Also, not directly related but I noticed when I looked it up: they have added two gluten free options at Coney Potato Works to the list on the website. They said earlier it would be included but this is the first I saw it in official print.

From Kings Island's Twitter account: "@KingsIslandPR: Construction of the Coca-Cola Marketplace is underway. Guests will find healthy food options here." https://twitter.com/kingsislandpr/status/572451664910786563 Interesting. I wonder what the healthy options will be and if they'll be included in the dining plans at all.

29 things no one tells you a out leaving Ohio.
Magenta Lizard replied to jandyb79's topic in Kings Island
Just a note: I spent my entire young life wanting to get the heck out of Ohio. Coming from a boring hometown probably had something to do with it (although even my hometown has greatly improved since my childhood). While there were things I liked about Southern California, I'm really happy we moved back here, and I've been much happier upon my return than I was before I left or when I lived out there. -
I guess you're just going to have to figure out a way to go to all four since it's a tie

After growing up and going to college in Ohio, I lived in California for seven years before moving back, and I didn't notice most of those. Probably in part because I don't follow the sports or like many of the "Ohio" foods/drinks (except peanut butter/chocolate buckeyes). What's weird about the Ohio State Buckeyes is that before I left, I didn't notice a lot of support for them outside of the students and alumni. Seemingly while I was away was when they became a really big deal, and I definitely noticed when I returned ten years ago. Must have been when they started some serious winning streak or something. As for seasons, I really missed them when living in Southern California. Although it is pleasant most of the year, it's a bit of a perpetual Spring (with all the beautiful flowering trees, but zero thunderstorms), with no Autumn to speak of, two weeks of straight rain to mark "Winter", and a new season called "fire" thrown in to mark "Summer". -
It's the stairs behind a glass door to the right just before you leave or get your hand stamped, and to the left of the shop that is often closed. This past year, there was a big sign and TV advertising Cirque Imagine blocking most of the view of the stairs. That whole glass enclosure on the right between the open gates area and the little shop was the original entrance. It also opened to the outside of the gates at one time. It's the opposite wall of the wide open gates area from where guest services are. So, the left as you come in, right as you go out. Being only accessible by stairs may be the reason they closed off general access to the restaurant and reserve it for private events. I guess they didn't want to add an elevator to bring it up to current disability codes.

When the appearance of a mystery bruise on my ankle brings back fond memories of the array of random bruises I had on my legs all summer from the rides.

That reminds me. When I was a kid, it was really cool how the park came alive after dark, with the different lighting packages. Then I didn't really go to the park for over a decade, and new rides were added. This past summer, my first summer back, I usually got to the park at opening and stayed to late afternoon at the latest. After several visits I finally was going to stay late and was really excited to see what my new favorite steel coaster (Diamondback) looked like after dark. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Although the beauty of WindSeeker after dark more than makes up for it. The light saber lift hill is the first thing that's made me really want to go ride Fury325.

... I start thinking about going to the job fair coming up, even though I don't want a job. I just miss KI that much.

They're good if you like to use your phone in the tub, too. You can even use the touchscreen through it. I've been bagging mine in the tub for a couple years now. I've only fully dropped it in the water once, but it is definitely worth the trouble. I always take a plastic zipper bag in my cargo pockets when I'm at the park. The risk of water damage is way less than the risk of theft.

I liked him suggesting antique cars and a Ferris wheel as things "every park should have", while seeming oblivious that the park had both in the past. A way cool double Ferris wheel I don't actually remember, but want to go back in time to ride

I would assume. That's how high school yearbooks were, at least when I was in high school.

They were apparently doing it as late as 2006: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/9173-06-yearbooks/ There is also a mention elsewhere online of yearbooks as prizes for an employee reunion in 2009, but those may or may not have been yearbooks from that year.

As I mentioned in another thread, I've come into possession of two Kings Island employee yearbooks. One is from 1978: Kings Jester and the other is A View from the Tower from 1987 (the year Vortex premiered). Almost the instant I saw these on eBay, I bought them, even though I hadn't been aware KI made employee yearbooks and wasn't sure exactly what they were going to be. I was hoping to get a bit of a look at the Kings Island I loved so much in my childhood. I have an unusual memory. I know all kinds of strange facts, but I never remember how I learned them. My own personal memories are few and far between, often vague, and I don't remember much of it at all without outside prompts like other people, pictures, diaries, etc. For an example, around the first time I found out my memory was different was at the end of 5th grade when classmates were talking about very specific memories of events from our years in elementary school, which I should have remembered too (because I was there for many of them), while I couldn't have told them my second grade teacher's name without looking in my yearbook from that year. So far, a cursory look through the employee yearbooks have jogged a lot of memories, as I had hoped. What I hadn't considered was the ability to look behind the scenes, which is giving special insight about the people who helped make those days so special, and by extension are continuing to help make my days at the park pleasurable. Kings Jester in particular focuses on this aspect of being a Kings Island employee, and that is what I want to make my first installment of several posts I hope to write about these yearbooks. If anyone has any questions about the yearbooks and/or would like me to show/talk about something in particular that may be contained within, please let me know.

Changes to 2015 dining plans (Update: not happening)
Magenta Lizard replied to malem's topic in Kings Island
CP Food Blog just posted an article about gluten free options to be available on the Kings Island 2015 dining plan: http://cpfoodblog.com/kings-island-gluten-free-dining-plans/ I wasn't sure from the article whether Coney Potato Works was included in dining along with Festhaus, because it currently isn't as per the official KI site. I asked on Facebook, and they said "The preliminary lists shows both as being offered on the dining plans." So that's pretty exciting!
